Problems enabling pure 802.11n WiFi on Airport Extreme

Hi all,
I'm facing problems configuring my Airport Extreme Station to work in
802.11n-only 5Ghz Mode.
The only option I can choose is : 802.11n (b-/g-compatible)
When I hold down the ALT-key, it keeps showing me all options without 802.11n support.
Is there a key combination which shows up all options ?
The Airport Extreme is connected to a DSL-modem via ethernet. Uses a WDS Network in combination with an Airport Express (802.11n-compatible) and my MB (3.1, 802.11n-compatible, checked with http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2447)

Condomi, Welcome to the discussion area!
Since WDS is an 802.11g feature you can't use 802.11n.
You would need to turn off WDS and use 802.11n's "extend network" feature.

I try to use the Airport utility to connect to the Airport Extreme however i am unable to connect.

I know that i am connect to the Airport Extreme Wi-Fi, i can browse the internet but i need to access the device to change the security and SSID name etc.
    Can anyone help.

Whats the planned topology supposed to look like. What is the status of each router now?

  • Using Non-Apple 802.11N Adapters with Airport Extreme

I have an Airport Extreme Base Station but both N enabled and G enabled Macs in the house. I'd really like to set up the network as an N network. And since I can upgrade the Airport Cards in the older Macs, can I use 3rd Party 802.11N adapters (USB 2.0 for example) to get the older Macs onto the N network? Otherwise, it seems to defeat the purpose of having the 802.11N enabled Airport Extrement and iMacs.
I see that Netgear and Edimax have such adapters, but neither lists Mac OSX as a supported OS.
    Thank you.

Thank you for your comment. But unfortunately, I still need to run my non-N machines. So I think my choices are:
    1. Try somehow to replace the older Airport Cards in those machines with N-Cards which seem like a pain
    2. Have 2 networks, one N and one non-N
    3. Try some of these 3rd Party USB or PC Card Slot N-Adapters
Seems like 3. is the least painful option?
Any advice on whether I can use 3rd Party N-Adapter would be very appreciated! Thanks again!

  • Is Airport Express 802.11n compatibile with Airport Extreme 802.11g?

I can't get my new AExpress 802.11n to coexist with two other 802.11g AExpress and a AExtreme 802.11g. I have tried every type of reset and upgraded all soft/firmware but I can't see all three!
Do I have to ditch my older model Express (g) and Extreme (g) or try and get a second user old model Express (g)?
has anyone got a mix of old and new Express to co-exist?

good response. What to try? I'll admit it is a pain but this would be the basics:
    1) reset it as many times as necessary to get it to be recognized
    2) reset it with the power unplugged also
    3) always use the airport icon found at the top of the desktop file menu(this is the key to find it there first
    4) use the preferred pane found in the network pane within system preferences, delete networks that are odd or old and if you can get that express showing there you are almost home. Use the above three to do it also
This is why I got off those routers and now use two TC or two Extreme N or a combination of each. Ethernet as much as possible. Good luck
    also
    5) use ethernet to configure it then remove it, but once you set its wireless setting make sure you see it in the airport icon.

  • Airport Express 802.11n Wifi firmware

    Hello,
    i have an Airport Express 802.11n Wifi Model-Number: A1264
Somehow Airport Utility cannot update the firmware to 7.x. It is stuck at 6.3.
I tried loading the firmware while holding the option key. But Airport Utility tells me it cannot install the 7.4.2 Firmware on this device.
Also there is no option for "n network in the wireless settings in the utility.
What can i do? Whats wrong with may Airport Express?

I don't have my long list of Apple model numbers handy, but I can confirm that if you bought an AirPort Express(n), you would certainly see a Radio Mode option to include 802.11n when you look at the settings in AirPort Utility.
I believe that the firmware for the 802.11n models started with version 7.3.1. I would guess that the "7" designates the addition of "n" capabilities.
I suspect a mistake was made and the device will need to be exchanged.

  • I bought the Airport Extreme 802.11n Wifi

I bought the Airport Extreme 802.11n Wifi from the Apple store in West Edmonton Mall Canada got to the airport, customs scanned the box (which was unopened) and they got a dangerous chemicals hit on the unit. No need to say what else happened there after, i was skinned inside out, body search, drill with the 21 questions and on top that they want to know if i have any ties with any terrorist organizations.
Why would this device give off such a reading?

    It doesn't.
The box may have been handled by someone with unclean hands. Or, their security equipment may have been miscalibrated. Or, they're just incompetent. Don't you feel safe?

  • Macbook 2007 and not 802.11n WIFI?

Hi, today I decided to enable just 802.11N mode on my aiport EXTREME (2007 model), I know that my iPhone couldn't access to my WIFI (I had to have another router coused by my local internet operator).
So I had two networks, one on 5GHz and second on 2,4 g mode. I could access first on through my MB Pro Unibody, but sisters Macbook couldn't find it?
So I opened system information and found, that Macbook supports draft N, just not the channel 149 (the highest was 140) and I couldn't change it on my airport EXTREME.
Has somebody tips for this issue?

Thank you for your answer, both macs are EUROPEAN!!!
I know about 140 is the highest european channel, but my UNIBODY accepts all ports (due to travel) with exclusice laptop (Apple) I guess you should could use WIFI on all continents
And about the Airport EXTREME, I could change channel only if I'm in compatibility mode, if I'm in just 802.11N mode (2,4 or 5 GHz) I cannot deselect automatic!! I Guess it is a bug in my firmware? 7.4.2 (latest for my gigabit model).

  • Cannot enable Broadcom 802.11n?

Hello! So I've used boot camp to run windows 7 on my macbook retina late 2012.
    I can't seem to enable Broadcom 802.11n?
When I run enable it says its been able yet stays "Disabled"?
    Help would be much appreciated!

    OK, this is my position:
    - original Windows 7
    - BootCamp drivers downloaded from Bootcamp assistant and not from the site as a mistake can be made in choosing what type
    - apply ALL Win 7 requested updates
If it still doesn't work uninstall BootCamp drivers (somewhere in this section is written how - sorry I'm in hurry...), restart Win7 and reinstall Bootcamp drivers.
If it still doesn't work then it could be a bug. I can't go further as my MBPro is a late 2011 and I can't make experiments.
    Let us know.
    Cheers
    Simon

  • Wifi connection AirPort Extreme with IP-camera

I can't establish wifi connection Airport Extreme with IP-camera. At the same time cable connection is fine, but wifi not.
    Please, give me an advise.

You need to create a wireless network on the AirPort Extreme, and then you probably will want to assign a compatible static LAN IP address to the camera so that you can port-forward from the router to the camera.

  • HT4600 Just bought a new  Airport Express trying to get the other airport clients to recognize new 802.11n Wifi?

Just purchased a new Airport Express 802.11N instal with new hi speed Xfinity moden in same location.  Cant get a green light on the 2 remote client  airports located in other spaces in home.  Help?

What is the exact model of the Xfinity modem that you have? Is the new AirPort Express connected directly to this modem by Ethernet?
By "remote client airports" do you mean additional AirPort base stations or Apple computers?

  • AirPort Extreme  802.11n WiFi is blinking amber after changing from cable to DSL.  Everything works well; but light used to be solid green.

I changed from cable to DSL yesterday.  Technician connected the new modem and all is working excellently, except that the light on my AirPort Extreme which used to be a solid green, is now blinking amber.  I know this is not right, yet everything else is working well.  What's wrong and how can I fix it?

We need to do some troubleshooting to find out why the amber light is blinking, and to do that we need to know what operating system you are using on your Mac or PC.
If you have a Mac, and are not sure what operating system it is using, click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen, then click About This Mac. Post back with the OS X Version number that you see there.

  • WDS networking issue - Airport Extreme (802.11n) and remote Airport Express

    *Background Info:*
    Airport Extreme 802.11n (Fast Ethernet)
    Version: 7.2.1
Wireless Mode: Participate in a WDS network (set as main)
    Network Name: @Home
    Wireless Security: WPA/WPA2 Personal
    Channel: 1
    Airport Express
    Version: 6.3
Wireless Mode: Participate in a WDS network (set as remote)
    Network Name: @Home
    Wireless Security: WPA/WPA2 Personal
    Channel: 1
    Radio Mode: 802.11b/g compatible
    Connect Using: AirPort (WDS)
    Connection Sharing: Off (Bridge Mode)
    Issue
Please help as I'm having issues with my WDS network. I've setup using both the wizard and manual and also hard reset on both units to setup again but cannot get them both to communicate to one another. Both units are showing green LED under their configuration. For my last attempt, I've tried adding the Airport ID (MAC) of the Airport Express to the Access Control and also DHCP Reservations on the Airport Extreme but still no luck.
The Airport Express (setup as remote) does not even show up in the Airport Extreme's Summary as Wireless Clients. In the WDS tab, the Airport Extreme is set up as WDS main, Allow wireless clients box checked and WDS Remotes has the Airport Express' AirPort ID in the list. On the Airport Express, WDS is set up as remote, with Allow wireless client box checked and the Airport ID of the Airport Express in the WDS Main.
I can connect clients to both units. Both units are configured using the same Network Name and have the same WPA/WPA2 security key. The Airport Extreme (main) however is connected to my broadband so any devices or clients connected to it are able to get outside. Connected devices or clients are assigned IP address via DHCP with IP 10.0.x.x. If wifi devices or clients connect to the Airport Express (remote) they are assigned a completely different IP addresses 169.254.x.x, they are not able to browse the internet or talk to other clients connected on the 10.0.1.x network. The Internet Connection configuration on the Airport Express (remote) is Connect Using Airport (WDS) and Using DHCP. I've even tried manually and entered the IP address 10.0.1.199 that I had assigned to the Airport Express from the Airport Extreme and Router Address as IP of Airport Extreme (10.0.1.1).
I think I've tried everything but I'm still having this problem. The remote Airport Express is not extending my existing Airport Extreme network. Any ideas???

    Christopher,
This may or may not be helpful, or it may be something you've already tried or are aware of so I apologize if that's the case.
I have been researching ways to set up the Dual Band Network supported by the AEBS and came across your post. I've got an AEBS and (2) AirPort Express set-up currently (AEBS is main and the Express are participating in the WDS as remotes) and I'm trying to configure one of the Express to utilize a 802.11b/g compatible network while the AEBS runs a 5Ghz 802.11n Only network.
AAR, since the AirPort Express are 2.4Ghz 802.11b/g ONLY (no support for 802.11n), you have to be sure to set-up your AEBS first and select "802.11n (802.11b/g compatible)" in the Radio Mode drop-down on the AEBS before you attempt to connect an AirPort Express. The AEBS should be set-up as your "WDS main" and the Express should be set-up as a "WDS remote" for the network you established when you set-up the AEBS.
Bottom line here is the Express won't be seen by the AEBS unless the AEBS is 'looking' in the 802.11b/g 2.4Ghz frequency.
    Hope this was helpful.

  • After update to 5.0.2, Apple TV can no longer see 802.11n WiFi networks

    Dear all,
since the last update to Software 5.0.2, my Apple TV has been unable to see 802.11n/5Ghz WiFi networks, which worked fine prior to the update. Has anybody experienced this problem and found a solution to it? The device connects fine to other types of networks, but my main network is not even listed in the list of available networks, and can't be found by searching by name....
    Thanks in advance,
