Problems even after rolling back to 8.0

My 2nd generation shuffle was working fine (for the most part). Then I updated to iTunes 8.1 and noticed the exact same problems that everyone else is noticing, namely that syncing was completely broken. (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1937971 for details) So I decided to roll back to iTunes 8.0 by deleting iTunes and restoring version 8.0 with Time Machine. I had to use an old version of the library, but it wasn't a big deal.
The problem now is that now my Shuffle syncs play counts with iTunes, but not the order that music is loaded on the iPod. I put music and podcasts on in the order I want to listen to them (I plan hours worth of music for very long runs in advance), and everything looks OK in iTunes, but then when I detach the iPod and go to listen to it, all the podcasts are lumped at the beginning, then all the music is in order alphabetically by artist, regardless of the order I'd arranged them. Then when I plug the Shuffle back in to the dock, iTunes shows everything in this same undesirable order.
I've used the "restore" option several times to wipe the iPod and start over, but it doesn't seem to want to listen to the order in which I arrange things. Anybody else experience anything similar?

Well, I cant help you there, but I was wondering how you restored the ipod back to 8.0 using Time Machine...do you have to download Time Machine? Or should it be on my itunes playlist? Sorry to change the subject, I just havent been able to resolve the issues Ive had with 8.1.
Thanks!
Katie

  • Further woes after rolling back to 4.9

So after wasting my last weekend with the install of 5.0 and the subsequent roll-back to 4.9 I now find that 4.9 will no longer import songs. I just get:
"Error occurred while converting the file "<file name in here>. An unknown error occurred (-14002)"
Anybody else seen this? I'd do anything to avoid another weekend clearing up another iTunes disaster.

good man, Brod. okay, we can proceed on two different fronts here.
    b importing fixes
let's try throwing the standard advice on importing problems at the beast:

hmmmm. is there a specific reason why you need mp3s? can you get away with AAC?
if you need mp3s, can you still import as mp3 udsing WMP?
can you try an experimental import into itunes using a lossless format? then switch your importing preferences back to mp3, right-click one of the lossless tracks, and select "convert selection to mp3". do you still get the same conversion error, or can you get mp3s via the two-stage procedure in itunes?

  • How to continue a loop after roll back callee a Transaction in SOA

    Hi All,
I Have main bpel process which calls a external web service which returns  set of records,
iiterate through the set, i need to store the each record in AQ Topic.
and ack each and every record after storing them in AQTopic. if the Ack fails i should roll back the previously inserted record from AQ.
I Divided the XA transaction into two parts by using "checkpoint();" .
Based on the ack status i called throw activity with Rollback transaction, i handled that using catch all in same scope.but after that process is terminating not iterating through the loop.
    i used XA Datasource.
    please suggest me.
    Thanks Rajashekar.

    Hi PuneetRekhade,
    Thanks for your suggestion.
After receving the ack=sucess, before storing the Record in the AQ if system crashes Data would no longer exist in Either AQ or external web service Data base .
the Record shouldn't be lost at any cost.
in my case, if the system crashes before sending the data to AQ, nothing happens because i wouldn't send the ack to the External web service.
    Thanks
    Raj.

  • Nvidia problems, need to roll back

I got some error when updating to the latest nvidia version about some failure to get supported display devices so I need to roll back to an older version. The problem however is that the old version use the old kernel and I have the 3.1 version. So I need to make some own package or whatever it is called and I have no idea how to do it. I will need a PKBUILD file to base the package on and I have no idea either where you find a relevant PKBUILD for nvidia either. Can someone please help me?

Downloading the 275 version from AUR solved my problem temporary, but now the kernel have been updated again so I cannot use the 275 version anymore. And the newest version of nvidia does not solve the problem. Here is the xorg log: http://pastebin.com/kkembEBG
There is a relevant post in the forums about that problem: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=130803
So I have to downgrade nvidia, I feel it was to noobish to ask how to do in that topic. And since it seem to depend on the kernel, it does not seem to be a easy way to downgrade.

  • Why doesn't Migration Assistant recognize my backup disk after rolling back to Mountain Lion from Mavericks?

I rolled back my OS from Mavericks to Mountain Lion and now the Migration Assistant isn't finding my Time Machine backups.  Any idea why this is?

One reason may be a different computer name.  Check System Preferences > Sharing and make sure your computer name has been the same through all your various OS X iterations.

  • Unable to change permissions on Hard Disk Drives after rolling back OSX Lion to Snow Leopard

Are you able to help me?
I had several problems with permissions and a series of other serious issues after upgrading to Lion, so I did a clean re-install of Snow Leopard 6.4 (from disk), upgraded to 6.8 and still had permissions problems which I have made worse by doing what I thought made sense - giving my administration user access to all hard disks and time machine back-ups. I emphasise "hard disks" because I have an iMac 27" i7 and 250GB Flash Drive provided by Apple where I keep OSX and aplication files.  Thus the Flash Drive (FD) becomes the boot disk, not the Hard Drive.
Changing preferences on the Apple HD (not FD) and the Time Machine Backup HD to my user name (with administration privaleges) has had the reverse effect of not giving me access to anything other than my OSX system volume on my 250GB Flash drive!  I can only see my files on the hard drives with the root user (which I have used for the first time ever to get that access).  But using the root user does NOT allow me to change permissions of either my Time Machine backup disk or the Hard drive on my iMac !  Why oh why??
Googling for solutions suggested using iRepair to change permissions but that gives me a "boing" when I try with no effect - at least a "boing" is more feedback that the Apple Finder's response to my attempt to alter permissions in the "info" window!
Oh! and of course I have unsuccessfuly tried the Disk Utility as well, which does come back with errors - that appear to be "safe to ignore" from Apple Support's website!
I originally posted a slightly different message to this one to  https://discussions.apple.com/message/16955471#16955471 because it appeared to have similar issues. It appears as if my problem is unfortunately quite unique!
    Godfrey Bridger
    Hamilton, New Zealand

So the background to this situation:
    1. The user had OS 10.6.8 installed on one volume, while his actual users home folders stored on a second volume, this is fine but can sometimes cause issues during/post upgrade to 10.7
    2. The user upgraded to 10.7 and while his home folders were still being accessed, he no longer had permission to change or modify them.
    3. The user downgraded to 10.6.4 again which broke the link for his users completely.
    4. In an attempt to change the permissions for his information he had the (common) mistake of changing the permissions of his root level of his drive, this did several things, in addition to negatively effecting his OS, it also locked the drive mount points in his (hidden) /Volumes/ folder.
    5. the steps taken to help rectify this issue:
    A. Open Terminal.
    B. TYPE:
    chmod -N /
    chmod 1775 /
    chown root:admin /
    C. Reboot computer
    D. Open Disk Utility.
    E. Repair permissions on the boot volume.
    F. Also the following commands were run on her second drive to allow him access to his stuff again:
    sudo chflags -R nouchg /path to drive/
    chmod -R 775 /path to drive/
    chmod -RN /path to drive/
    chown -R username:staff /path to drive/
Once the permissions repair is complete the Users can be readded to the System Preferences>Accounts pane and the paths to home directories located in his second drive using the "Advanced Options..." section, but due to the time the permissions repair was going to take this step will be posted tomorrow.
Also each user will require Terminal commands to make the permissions unique for each user: (this must be done PRIOR to the users being added in System Preferences>Accounts.
    chmod -N /
    chmod 1775 /
    chown root:admin /
sudo chflags -R nouchg /path to home folder/
    sudo chmod -R 775 /path to home folder/
sudo chmod -RN /path to home folder/
    sudo chown -R username:staff /path to home folder/

  • Sleep problems (even after firmware update)

    Hello
Previously I was having problems where I would put my Macbook to sleep only to find it an hour later in my bag blazing hot with the fan working overtime.
The recent firmware update seems to have fixed that problem but it's been replaced by another. What happens now is when I get home and retrieve the Macbook from my bag and open the lid the hard disk makes it's familiar waking up sound but the screen doesn't come back on - and I'm not really sure if the computer has woken up or not - sounds like things are happening inside the metal but no beeps or burps when I randomly press keys / try to make things happen.
In the end I'm forced to hold down the start up button and force a shut down.
Anyone else having this? This doesn't seem to happen when I wake from sleep at any other time than when I take the computer from work to home which makes me think it's something to do with maybe my Bluetooth mouse or wireless network?
This is really frustrating and I'm sure forcing a shut down isn't doing my HD any favors.
    Can anyone help?
    Cheers
    Dom

I forgot to mention, DenverEagle, some more details.
My iMac would do the same thing: if it went to sleep, it either just shut down, or restarted, instead. If I turned off sleep, all was OK (for awhile. Eventually it had an episode where I turned it off and it would not start back up. Eventually, it did start back up [after about a day's rest]. That was when I took it in).
So it might be the same problem I had.
The software steps I was told to do, in attempt to resolve it, were:
    1) Delete my power settings preferences file, and;
    2) Reset the SMU, and;
    3) Reset the PRAM/NVRAM.
None helped, but they're easy, so you might try them. I don't think I they have any nasty side effects, but buyer beware.
I'm a little hazy on #1, and I can't find the tip online, but I think it just involved deleting the file:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
    Number 2 is outlined here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301733
    Number 3 is outlined here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
I took my iMac to the Cherry Creek Apple store, and they fixed it really fast (it was 4 days, including a weekend, IIRC).

  • Cannot restore backup from iCloud after rolling back from iOS 8

So, after trying iOS 8 on my iPhone 4s I decided there was too much lag to apps opening, etc.
I downloaded the iOS 7.1.2 firmware and got it back, after backing up to iCloud.
Now all I get - after trying probably 250 times over the past day - is 'Cannot restore backup' from any of the backups from the past three days.
Is it being blocked because iCloud recognises it as not being the latest iOS?
    Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance for any help

I have the same problem with an iPhone 4 with iOS 5.1.1, I'm trying to restore my iPhone with a backup made with iCloud (when I made the backup 2 weeks ago I had the same iOS version, 5.1.1).
The error message is: "Cannot restore backup" which is NOT listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4036
I need some help with this, thanks.

  • Big iMac problems, even after full reinstall

    I am so frustrated!
A week or so ago I had my Mac taken in for repair through Applecare for a display issue. In replacing the LCD the repair teams informed me there was a problem with the hard drive fan, and that they had replaced this too.
    Background
When I received my repaired iMac back and powered it on, it wouldn't load past the initial grey screen/spinning gear. I tried absolutely everything I could think of or find online:
    - Resetting the PRAM
    - Performing a SMC reset
    - Booting into single user mode and running fsck
In doing this I identified numerous little niggles and decided a clean install would be necessary. I found it was near impossible to boot from the iMac's restore disks (Snow Leopard 10.6.2), because it kept ejecting the disk on boot. Eventually, after about 4 hours I managed to get the disk to stay in the drive (not sure how) and boot from it. From selecting the install DVD from the boot launcher I had to wait about 10 minutes to see the installer. From then, it worked as expected and at the speed it always did work at.
From there, in Disk Utility I performmed Permission and Disk verifications and repairs, then erased the hard drive (I have a backup) and installed again from scratch. This install did not succeed - an error was thrown up about not being able to copy over support files or something and it demanded I restarted and tried again. This time, it worked and installed in 20 minutes or so.
I performed full software updates and am in the process of re-downloading Lion.
    Current issues
The issue I'm experiencing now involves the length of time it is taking to boot the Mac. It takes between 10 and 20 minutes to get to the desktop, but once it does, performance is completely normal.
The second issue is that the computer is still spitting out DVDs. I am unable to get either the install disk or the applications disk with iLife on it to stay in the drive. I haven't tested this with other CDs/DVDs but it's certainly not working with these two. When I insert a disk, it spins for a while before giving up and spitting the disk back out.
    Questions
    1) Do these issues strike people as being hardware or software faults?
    2) Are there any diagnostics/troubleshooting steps I can take before sending the Mac off for repair again or is it simply a matter of replacing faulty components?
    System information
    Model: Mid-2010 27" iMac
Processor: 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 4GB

Sounds like you've had your fair share of aggro with this.
Reading through your list of woes you might try one thing to improve the start-up time, although 10-20mins is an exceptionally long time. Some users on here have reported startup times in the 5mins region and doing the following has often helped: System Preferences>Startup Disk and click on 'Macintosh HD, Mac OS X 10.6.8' and then click on restart.

  • Sleep/ALS problem even AFTER Apple Store ALS replacement!

So I've had this sleep/ALS problem for months; wave my hand near the left ALS and display goes black. Gets better after PB has been on for a while. I like my office rather dimly lit (hey, a little "mood" lighting) but I have to have it lit up like an operating theater in the morning to keep the blasted PB running...
Anyway, we recently got an Apple Store in town, so (with one week left in warranty) I took it in; they ordered new ALS sensor, last Saturday they replaced it.
Worked great until...this morning same problem!! Now what!? I'm going by this afternoon to speak with them.
Needless to say, I've reset PMU, PRAM, safe boot, and just about everything else one can reset. Sigh. I thought sure a replacement hardware sensor would do it.
Oh yeah, the sleep light also quit working, except sometimes. These intermittent problems are sure a pain!
And, like others w/this problem, keyboard backlighting has disappeared from Preferences. Strange.

repair was not done properly, get them fix it again or try another service place.
maybe call Apple customer relations to complain.

  • Flash problem even after fixes

I'm using Tiger 10.4.11 and Safari 4.1.3. Since the Safari update after 4 beta, any site with Flash content has caused Safari to crash within a minute.
I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling etc...running disk repair, clearing the cache...basically anything suggested on numerous other threads detailing the same problem.
My problem now is that Flash is downloaded but sites with such content now all say that the plug-in is missing and direct me to the adobe site. On clicking Help>Internet Plug-ins in Safari, Flash is not listed but its present in my user/Library/Plug-ins folder and MAC/library/Internet Plug-ins folders.
Can anyone suggest a way of getting round this problem other than upgrading/ doing a full reinstall of my OS?
If not, are there any add-ons that could convert flash content to HTML5 on Safari 4.1.3?
    Many thanks in advance
(Please explain any workarounds in layman terms)

    Hi
well I think that's the wrong size file - recent Flash versions (including this latest one) place a Flash Player.plugin file that contains two versions, for 10.4-5 and 10.6 -
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Flash Player.plugin here is 23.4 MB on disk (23,309,888 bytes)
inside that, there are several other files, including the two OS-specific ones at around 11.5 MB each
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Flash Player.plugin/Contents/PlugIns/FlashPlayer-10.4-10.5.plugin (11.6 MB on disk (11,536,744 bytes))
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Flash Player.plugin/Contents/PlugIns/FlashPlayer-10.6.plugin (11.8 MB on disk (11,728,149 bytes))
Now maybe (adobe don't say) they install only the 10.4 one on 10.4 macs (I'd find that a bit odd, since they add the 10.4 one to 10.6 machines) and yours is just as is should be, but I'd certainly try an older version for now, from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html or a backup. Perhaps someone else with Tiger will check their plugin file size.

  • Startup problems, even after erase and install

Hi, i have a polycarbonate black macbook (I think its of the last black ones that were sold), I used to have leopard 10.5.8, and windows xp on it with refit as the boot menu, recently I removed refit, and updated to snow leopard, around that time i started having problems at boot time, either i got stuck at the grey apple screen, or got a prohibitory sign, or most commonly, a kernel panic, that leaves no log by the way. About 1 in 5 tries actually boots up, so I thought I should go the windows way and erase and install. And the problem is still there, I ran a memtest from single user mode, and all ram ended ok.
I have since reinstalled rEFIt, and the problem at least changed, when I turn on the mac, at least the rEFIt logo comes up, sometimes it does load fine, and after that if i choose mac os its exactly as before, if I choose legacy os I get the no boot disk found error (which is what i expect since the computer only has mac os x)
As an aditional note, when the computer does boot, everything works completely normal, the only problems are at boot up time.
EDIT: Just to add that I cant seem to run Apple hardware test, it just doesnt boot holding the D key from either install disk, not before having installed refit, nor after
Hope someone can find some insight in this, im really worried that this could be some logic board failing, I really cant afford such an expense. Thanks, and sorry for the long post, I wanted to detail it as much as possible
    Message was edited by: carlosjoan91

If your hardware test boot device was on the hard drive rather than the installer disc, then installing rEFIt may destroy the boot loader originally used causing the loss of an ability to boot into the test. You would likely need an old version of the installer disc that had the hardware test on the disc rather than on the hard drive.
At this point the best thing for you to do is the following:
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Reinstall OS X and use Boot Camp Assistant to create a Windows volume instead of using rEFIt. You'll have fewer problems.

  • After updating aurora/firefox to most updated versions i find the mcafee site advisor does not work , but after rolling back the versions it does .

    .....

Most security software only supports the current release and even that can take some time after Firefox has been updated.<br />
If you expect Firefox to work properly all the time then you should stay with the release version and to use nightly builds that are updated every day or weekly in the case of the Beta channel.
