Problems Exporting for Podcast Use

I've been doing some podcasting using iMovie HD and iWeb. some of them have been going fine. however, i've had a few where the video freezes (after export) but the audio keeps going. no matter how many times i export it or try different formats, they always freeze in the exact same place. can somebody help explain this to me and how i can fix it?

I have the same problem. The podcast created from iMovie freezes like 20 seconds into the run and the audio keeps going.

  • Exporting for Podcast

I'm trying to export some of our shows for Podcast, however when I export in the iTunes Video Large (.mp4) format, I end up with nearly every other frame being a flash of bright green.
Anybody know what is the best way to export a video (with audio) for podcasting? Thanks

First, if you downgrad to QuickTime 7.4.5 all should be ok.
I did notice that I see the flashes when viewins on a windows Vista machine. When I transferred the mp4 files to my iPod, they played fine.

  • Exporting for DVDSP2 using FCPHD4.5?

    Hi,
What's the "best" method for exporting from FCPHD 4.5 use in DVDSP2? I've searched the forums and I've a seen a few different answers (a lot of which were suggestions for FCP5 / DVDSP4).
I have a 99 minute movie that I'm exporting at "current settings" from FCP. I end up with a 21GB file that works fine in iDVD5 - but will not fit onto a standard DVD-R using DVDSP2 (comes out to 8.7 GB in DVDSP's meter). iDVD also produces a final print that we're quite happy with.
I'm planning to upgrade to FC Studio before the end of the year - but until then - any suggestions, techniques, tips would be greatly appreciated. Or, simply tell me where I'm going wrong.
    Thanks gang-

    Craig,
While I'm no expert I can tell you what I have experienced. I prefer, and have been suggested to, export from FCPHD using Compressor. Of course I always go with high quality output. I just used this method with a 98 minute movie late last week and used the 90 minute HQ compression default in Compressor and the accompanying audio compression. After about 20 hours of compression I ended up with a movie that was 3.42GB and audio that was 1.05GB. However, when I put them in the DVDSP Project the resulting track containing them is 4.9 GB, still too long (my total project comes out to 5.1GB). My suggestion is to use Compressor, but not to use the 90 minute HQ setting. I'm not sure the best way from there I would say that you should use the bit rate calculator at this site: http://www.wiredinc.com/bitrate.html and customize your settings, or if you're not comfortable with that use either the 90 minute fast encode, or 120 HQ encode, but I do not know if the results will be good enough for yoru liking.
Hope that helps at least a little. I don't want to to waste 20 hours like I did! good luck!

    Hey
I was just wondering which mic would be best for podcasting with garageband. Plus will I need two mics for a two person podcast?

Is there really that much of a difference in
bandwidth speed between Firewire 400 and USB 2.0?
You'd have to do some web research to get solid numbers. I know what I've read, and experienced, and FireWire moves more data more easily. On paper, I believe USB 2.0 is speced to be faster (480mbs vs 400mbs), but with FireWire handling all it's own smarts in moving data, it just does a better job in the REal World.
guess I didn't think that with USB, bandwidth would
be something to consider, unless you are talking
Firewire 800 which most machines don't come with.
My opinion is that it really depends how far you are going to push the machine and GB. I'm working on a 52 or 53 track project, I need every bit and every cycle I can get (and it's playing fine via my FireWire drive)
I have to admit, I am kind of curious now ... maybe when I get a chance I'll try copying the project to a USB drive and see if it can still play it. If it can, perhaps the difference is small enough that it doesn't matter. Probably the REAL test, which I'm doubtful I'll tackle, would be pushing the project to just the point where it will play from the FW drive (iow, one more track and it can't), and then move that to the USB drive. Not perfectly scientific (fragmentation could be an issue, etc), but it would be interesting to try.
On the USB/Firewire using CPU issue, that I didn't
think about. I guess in some situations it might be
an issue, but again, for audio podcasting I just
    didn't take that into consideration.
Yeah, for a PodCast, how many tracks are you REALLY going to create, half dozen tops? Maybe a few more for special-special effects, but they won't be playing through the entire cast, so, agreed, it's not likely to be an issue on a small project.
As far as one being better, or "cleaner" as an input
device, have there been any tests and results posted
on this? I would like to see that if there were.
The bus is not going to make a difference. All USB and FireWire are doing is moving the data, not changing it. Th quality comes from the Mic PREs and line-level preamps, the A/D converters, the mic you're using (the room...)
Thanks for your knowledge on all this.

  • Export for Web using optimized for "download" or "streaming"?

    Hi,
Exporting for Web have some setting there,i'll choosing the .mov - H264 - and medium low quality - 15 Frame Rate - Checked Frame Reordering, others Automatic and the Audio will be 32.000hz and Mono.
Now,what about the optimizing? Download or Streaming?
What about Self-Contained Movie? do i need it?

optimizing for download or streaming depends on what sort of site you're sharing it on. Will it be streamed or a download file?
It must be self-contained, unless you are going to be streaming it, and hosting it from the machine that the original media is on. Even then I'm not sure that would work reliably.

  • Problem Exporting for Web files created in FCE using Quicktime

I have been using FCE 4.01 on Mac OSX 10.7.5 with Quicktime 10.1 (501.29).
I convert my footage in Mpeg Streamclip (GREAT free program) and set the files to the Apple Intermediate Codec.  This makes them work really well in my timeline and I don't have rendering issues or problems.
So, my problem comes when I File/Export/Quictime Movie.
The original file plays fine, but they're 2-3 gbs each, so I put them into Quicktime to convert them to a webfriendly size, but every single time they come out as an audio only file.  GRRRR!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Maybe I'm missing something stupid.
Thanks so much for your help.
    Sincerely,
    Steve

Why not bring the exported AIC file  back into MPEG Streamclip instead of QTX? You'll have a lot more control.
Compress the file to H.264 and restrict the data rate according to the resolution you're working with and to something consistent with the guidelines of the Web Service (say, You Tube) you're uploading to, (For example, something like 6 Mb per second would be about right for a 720P file.)
Or use Quicktime Conversion from FCE.
    Good luck.

  • I am having problems exporting to PDF using InDesign for Mac.

    Hi all!
I just started using the Creative Suite on Mac and have run into a couple problems. One is that when I set up a document in InDesign using "Facing Pages" and then export to PDF, the document exports each set of "Facing Pages" as one singular spread (my 20 page InDesign document becomes a 10 page PDF). Once it is a PDF, there are no page break lines in the center of the spread to indicate that they are two separate pages, and when I try to set up viewing preferences in Acrobat (single or double page), it too recogrnizes each spread as a single page.
When I used to do this in InDesign using Windows, whether I exported to PDF or printed to PDF from a document set up with "Facing Pages," each page would still be considered separate once converted to PDF (20 page InDesign docment becomes a 20 page PDF).
This also leads me to my next question : I see that on Mac, there is no option for printing to PDF, but I notice a quality difference specifically when it comes to linework (vector information) that has been "placed" in the document from Illustrator. Is there any way to achieve the quality of printing to PDF on Mac?
    Thank you in advance!
    Gabby

Hi Bob, I just tried your suggestion, but the interactive PDF is in spreads by default, no way to change the setting. When I choose to view by single page in Acrobat, it displays a single spread.
When I choose to view by spreads, it displays 4 pages, two spreads. That's the topic of this whole discussion, I believe. I do own CS 6 at home, however my employer supplied me with CS 5.5. And I have very little, if any, influence on purchasing.
So, I have no good way to make an interactive PDF (with differing recto/verso headers and footers), that is accessible and shows the correct header/footer. It's either single pages (with one header/footer), or recto/verso headers/footers but PDF only as a spread, as well as I can tell.
Unless you know something else I can do...
    Best, Marilyn

  • Problem exporting video to use in iDVD

I am working with anamorphic video in FCE 4.0.1. Video is imported from Canon GL2. The sequence I am working with has the anamorphic flag set and the canvas comes up as a wide screen view as I would expect. I export to QuickTime Movie (not self-contained), which we know sets the display size to 4:3. Open in QuickTime Pro, set the Movie Properties to 853 x 480 and save (as described in http://fcpbook.com/Video9.html ). Drag the movie into iDVD wide screen project. I've done this for a long time and it has always worked until recently.
Now when I preview the movie in iDVD it displays as squished 4:3. I suspect some upgrade of some software (probably QT or iDVD) has made it quit working.
I know there have been a lot of questions about this and I have tried various solutions without success. The only way I get it to come up as wide screen in iDVD preview is to use Quick Time conversion and export to a new file as 16:9. The big problem there is the chapter markers are not carried along, and I do not want them at every N minutes as iDVD will provide (I want them where I put them at transitions!). My only other thought is to export the full movie from FCE, bring it into iMovie, add the chapter markers there and export to iDVD (I understand iMovie is more compatible with iDVD).
I am using QT 7.6.0 and iDVD 7.0.3. This question may be more appropriate for those forums, but probably mostly only effects users that had exported from FCE. So I start with the post here...

Well, there is one more possibility using myDVDEdit, a powerful freeware application used to modify some parameters of a DVD image, before actually burning it. In this case you also need Toast or any other application able to make a video DVD image out of a VIDEO_TS folder.
The steps below seem complex, but in fact they are pretty fast, after a couple of usages.
    Instructions for using myDVDEdit:
    - Do not burn the DVD from iDVD but create a +disk image+ file
    - From the finder open the disk image and copy its VIDEO_TS folder to your desktop
    - Change the VIDEO_TS file permissions to let you modify its contents: in the finder Get Info panel select read/write for the folder and +all its internal folders+
    - Open myDVDEdit and use its File>Open command to open the modifiable copy of the VIDEO_TS folder
    - In the top left panel of the myDVDEdit window select +VTS 1+ (this contains the video)
    - In the panel below the video frame select +VTS 1+ among the vertical left tabs, and then Parameters among the top center tabs
    - Now you can see some parameters, that in your case should be: Coding mode: MPEG-2, Standard: NTSC, Resolution: 720x480
    - Aspect is what you need: this should be set to +16:9 auto letterbox+ - if not, select this option
    - Save - this is all you need to do in myDVDEdit
    - note that myDVDEdit window shows any change you make, but you can also open the DVD Player from myDVDEdit itself with File>Test with DVD Player
    - Now you have to +make a new disk image with the modified VIDEO_TS folder+: if you have Toast you have simply to drag the new VIDEO_TS folder to the proper Toast window and burn; otherwise you can use DVDImager, a free application, to create the new disk image, and then use Disk Utility to burn the real DVD (however DVDImager not always works with me... couldn't find out why).
If this doesn't work, you might also try the other options for the Aspect parameter. The full list is: 4:3, 16:9, 16:9 auto Pan&Scan, 16:9 auto Letterbox (the 1st to try), 16:9 auto Pan&Scan and Letterbox (2nd choice)

  • Problem exporting from FCP using compressor

Out of the blue - I'm getting batch failures trying to export from FCP for use in a DVD. Immediately after selecting compressor for export, I get an error reading "That file already exists", and a new tab appears in the media browser with a lengthy character string. Compressor opens fine, and I select Best Quality 4:3 encoding for video and aiff48 for audio. When the batch is submitted - it promptly fails and blames FCP for generating an error.
Did all kinds of restarts and work arounds to no avail. The promising news is that this error seems to occur only when exporting from FCP through Compressor.
My work-around is to export a QT movie of the piece, quit FCP, launch Compressor, and then import the QT for batching.
Hope this helps anyone else in similar situations

G5 PPC   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   FCP 512 post production

    Hi:
    How long is your movie?
The best workflow is FCP > Compressor > DVDSP.
You can encode your timeline directly to get MPEG2 video and Dolby 2 (AC3) audio files. Then import those in DVDSP and author your DVD.
Using Compressor you control the full encoding process. You can test with small parts of your movie (those where you got problems with iDVD) and find the best encoding options fopr your footage.
Of course the DVDSP learning curve is longer than iDVD but once you learned ir you probably never go back. Like iMovie and FCP.
To give you detailed info about what encoding settings to use you must post some info about your FCP project.
    Hope that helps !

  • Exporting for web use

I know this seems remedial, but when I've exported QT files for the web (using the available export options) I have had problems viewing it on a computer other than my Mac. When viewing on my PC, for example, it opens QT and says something about not being able to locate whatever it needs and it can't find it on the QT server. It sometimes plays the audio over a black screen. Does this sound familiar?
I have a client wanting the project I did for them available for use on a website. Honestly, it's a little embarassing that I don't know how to do it properly yet. =) Thanks for any tips!
    G5 dual 1.8   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   FCP4.5 (5.1 on the way!)

Gee ... it would have been nice if you included what codec and settings you used for the export. For example, if you exported as H.264, only those with QT 7 installed would be able to play the file. But without knowing what you did, any suggestion would be just a guess.

  • Problem exporting for TV viewing

I am finding FCPX most frustrating and  have the following problems with exporting and saving to a USB HDD then viewing on a HD pal TV.   If there are any Ken Burns effects in the project then the file won't play on the TV. Without the ken burns it plays.  I had an MP3 audio track which also caused the TV to reject it as Invalid File.  I change the audio for a wave file and the file played on the TV but suffered lots of drop outs.  The exported file plays normally on my MacBook with QuickTime player.
The settings are 1080x1900 50p. Computer  H264 audio AAC. I tried also audio and video prores 422 and the audio was ok  on the TV but there was no video.
The project is mainly still pictures with some MTS video clips.
The same project created and exported from iMovie works perfectly.
    Thanks for any help.
    Ray

Thanks Luis for your help. I don't think that the frame rate is the problem as the video plays correctly on the TV without Ken Burns effects in the timeline.
I just did a trial project with about 30 images at 8secs each with 3 sec transitions and a wave file . The video played fine but the audio suffered dropouts. I read on another post that someone fixed this by deleting the transitions so decided to give it a try. So I end up with 30 images  with a wave file attached no transitions. Exported and the setting was Computer 1080 x 1900 50p H.264 high quality and audio shown as AAC.IThere doesn't appear to be anyway to modify these settings without compressor.
Result - the file would not play oon the TV just an invalid file message. The only difference in this file and the one that worked ok was the absence of transitions.
It seems a bit strange. As I mentioned previously the same project recreated in iMovie works perfectly but I notice that that one shows the audio as pcm.

Here is the answer. After getting ReportClientDoc from factory we need to set the DatabaseController userid and password (if report on Crystal server is accessing oracle database as datasource). In addition we need to set parameters on the ReportClientDoc for reports and subreports before doing the the export.
Here is snippet of code: The code below is used to get ReportClientDocument and export it as PDF using bytestream.
/* Code for getting report client document */
private static synchronized ReportClientDocument getReportClientDocument() throws Exception
             int count = 3;

I searched past posts and found this problem but did not find a solution. When I export a file from iphoto 6 in raw photoshop will not recognize it, either as photoshop raw or camera raw. When I open it by setting all document in the dialog box, the file is greyed out. I know I can convert the file to a tiff or a jpeg but I really want to edit it as a raw file.
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Hello Harrison
i have the same problem. i have the panasonic FZ30 and the RAW and TIFF files are not supported by iphoto 6. the TIFF files from the previous version of this brand was recognized and can be imported. the only way i can import the two file types is with image capture and only TIFF is recognized. the RAW files have a label but no image just blank.
my solution came to me when i looked at a photoshop CS book. i had already downloaded the new RAW plugin from adobe for elements 3. launch elements 3, browse for file, select file and open. image appeared with all relevant data on how it was shot. clicked "open" at the bottom of the page and there was the picture i shot. double-clicking on the file only showed me a greyed out nothing picture.
i repeated this two more times to make sure it worked and it did. it might work for you.

  • Faster exports for BluRay: Use .avi or mp4?

    Hello,
I have digitized about 20 movies to .avi files.  In total, the are about 300GB.  My goal is to use Premier to create a movie with these files and to insert chapter markers to separate them.  Next, export the movie to Encore to build an H265 BluRay disk with the chapters.  I've found that the rendering time is off the charts...  Would it be better for me to convert the .AVI files to .MP4 and use them in the movie?  My thought is that the compressed format will reduce the time it takes to export to Encore and for Encore to build the BluRay disk.  If this idea is a good one, will there be much loss in quality?  I am using Adobe Cloud versions of the applications...
Thank you for your time and advice,
    Mike

How, and exactly what is inside your avi files?
Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... A screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing

  • FCP Export for Podcast...

Hi, our church podcasts our weekly services and I am using FCP 5.1.1 to create the podcast video. I am getting great results in exporting the video/audio to quicktime. I am using h.264 formatted to 320 x 240 with AAC audio. When the export is finished, it plays VERY well within iTunes and through browsers after being uploaded with iWeb. HOWEVER, it won't copy or play on the video iPod. I end up using Viddyup to convert to ipod format.
Can anyone suggest some settings that I might be able to use to get the export to work on my iPod directly from FCP without having to export a second time from another application?
    Thanks!
    Chris

Doh! I saw Studio Pro... Obviously not the RIGHT studio pro. Apologies!
