Problems exporting library from iPhoto

Hi,
I'm trying to export my iPhoto library but when i go to export to my external hard drive it gives me an error message and tells me it can't make volumes.... what do i do?
I think there could be an error within my library.
Any help is much appreciated!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Check to see where you iPhoto Library is located. Make sure it's in the Pictures folder. Next, go to the Finder->Go->Go to folder menu option and put in /volumes. Check to see if there's an alias file to your external hard drive in there. If not you can try creating an alias file for your external HD and put it in there.
As a workaround if you can't get it to export directly to the external HD you'll have to export to the Desktop and manually copy over to the external.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Problems exporting images from iPhoto

    Hi all,
I have iphoto (ver. 6.0.6) on a MacBook running OSX 10.4.11. I have a WD external hard drive connected to an airport base station and due to a lack of space on my MacBook HDD, recently moved my iphoto library to the external hard drive. Since then I've had a few problems with the database becoming corrupted (probably my fault) and have rebuilt it a few times now. I've read a few posts explaining that image files should only be edited in iphoto and so I'm sticking to that now.
The new problem that I have is in exporting images to a folder, say on the desktop for example. I want to upload some images to a website to have them printed off. Previously, when my photos were on my MacBook HDD, I created a folder on the desktop, highlighted the images I wanted and dragged them to the folder, then uploaded them to the website from the desktop folder- job done. Now, however, when I try to either drag them to the destop folder or export them, some of the files are 'converted' to Unix Executable files while the others are in their original jpeg format. I've tried exporting them and selecting the jpeg option instead of the original default option but no luck. Can anyone suggest where the problem might lie or what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Two problems with your set up.
    1. You getting a corrupted Library because iPhoto does not sit well with a wireless connection to the Library. If iPhoto is interrupted while writing to the database, then it becomes corrupted. Dropouts are a fact of life in Wireless networking. As long as you have this wireless connection you will have a significant risk of a damaged Library file.
    2. My guess is that the External Disk is formatted for Windows (a FAT format). This exe issue arises when jpegs are stored on a FAT formatted disk. You need to reformat the disk for Mac OS X Extended.

  • Problems exporting photos from iPhoto even after trying earlier suggestions

I've done this before with no problem.
I want to export 158 photos from iPhoto 11 on my iMac (OS 10.9.4) so I can put them on a 2GB SD card (MS-DOS FAT16) for a digital frame. With the SD card in the slot on the back of the iMac, I exported the files to that disk. I got an "Unable to create /Volumes/[filename]" error. Went ahead and deleted that pic from the album I'd created for export but got the error for a different file.
Checked through the iPhoto forum and found others had similar problems. Terence Devlin suggested exporting to a folder on the desktop and dragging to the card. When I try that, I get an "Item [filename] can't be copied because there isn't enough free space" error. (This despite the fact that the Finder info shows 14.7MB for all the files and it's a 2 GB card.) I click "OK" in the error window and am told the 158 items are being copied. However, when the process is complete, only two files appear on the card in the Finder and both of them show they're empty (i.e., Size: Zero bytes).
Tried reformatting the card. Tried plugging an external card reader into one of the USB ports on the iMac. Same problem.
    Thoughts?

the general answer is to export the photos to a desktop folder and then drag that folder (not the photos in it) to the proper location on the unlocked SD card - FAT formatted volumes have a very low limitation on the number of lies on them at the root level hence the necessity to put the files in a folder and drag the single folder to the FAT volume

  • RE: Problem exporting photos from iPhoto '09

Can anyone provide a solution to the following exporting problem?
I'm trying to export an album of 60 photos, yet whenever I try, this is what happens:
    exports the 1st six photos
a message pops up, "Unable to create  /Users/Lynnie/M80th - 06.jpg" after it exports the 1st six
Photo #7 is in color whereas the 1st six are B&W. I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but it just struck me as odd.
Also, I renamed and ordered the photos so there're aren't any with the same names.
I'm a very, very basic computer user, which doesn't help when trying to follow previous threads on this issue.
Any information would be helpful to hear.
    Thanks in advance!

The problem is that your library is corrupted in some way:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Problem emailing photos from iPhoto after installing OS 10.5.1

Since installing Leopard I have had problems emailing photos from iPhoto. I can send from my laptop to another Mac without problem BUT when I try to email pix from iPhoto to a PC user or to post on my Google Group board it only sends the 'title' I gave it in iPhoto or the 'PC134567.JPG' the camera assigns it. I have tried exporting and attaching to emails but that doesnt work either .. at least not all the time. AND when I do send them from iPhoto to my office PC they arrive NOT as an attachment but are embedded in the email message .. seriously what the heck is going on and why is this not working the way it used to pre-OS 10.5.1? What changed? How can I make this work the way it used to?
Thanks for reading and hopefully solving my problem

Thank you again .. I got home and immediately tried the fix you suggested .. sent a 'test' email and it worked perfectly.

  • Problems exporting photos in iPhoto 6

When I try to export photos from iPhoto to my hard drive, I get an error message that says:
"Directory Exists: exists as a directory at this destination. Aborting export."
This directory doesn't exist - I've tried creating several different folders, but to no avail. If I drag the photos directly to my desktop from iPhoto they work fine, but I can't export resized photos this way.
Has anyone else seen this problem, and if so, is there a fix for it? Thanks in advance!

    LH ,  i quote you, "
As I said previously if you want a BIG image export as a TIFF and it will be very big - but not any better quality than the 1.2 mb JPEG
and something is wrong with your observations - if you have a 9 mb JPEG (which is not really likely)"
first let me say, i am not blind and i am looking at the info on the image in iPhoto.  second, i know how to read the info.  i have been doing this for a long time.  i have some images that have loaded higher than that from the camera.  i have a full frame camera with 25mb and it takes higher mb images.
keith, yes alitle is understandable but that much is not.  i am not changing the size when exporting.  also,  the only problem with exporting original, i might have tweaked or cropped in iPhoto.

  • How to I export pictures from iphoto to a sd card

how do I export pictures from iphoto to a sd card?

    léonie wrote:
Exporting from iPhoto to the SD card is preferable. Dragging to the card will only write the lower quality  preview files and not the high resolution originals.
Export to a folder on the Desktop and then drag the folder to the card. If the file system on the SD Card is not MacOS Extended (Joournaled), you'll avoid a problem with the limit of files, that can be stored on the top level of the card by collecting all files in a folder.
Actually I found the opposite was true.
As you can see in the following picture, the dragged photo, which is the one named IMG_2268.JPG  retained more metadata and had a larger file size than the one I exported which was reduced in file size, and lost a bit of the meta data in the export.   Including the creation date, and the latitude and longitude.
I think Dragging is the better option.

  • How do I get my existing photo library from iPhoto to Photoshop?

How do I get my existing photo library from iPhoto to Photoshop?

    Hello MWWWB,
Unlike iPhoto, Photoshop is only an editor. It does not store or organize images. In iPhoto preferences, you can choose Photoshop as an editor. You will then get a choice when you double click on an iPhoto thumbnail to use iPhoto or Photoshop to make edits. But Photoshop does not have a library to store images like iPhoto.
You may want to use Adobe Bridge or Lightroom to help name and organize your pictures. You can Export your iPhoto Library to a folder and manage the exported images there.
Personally, I hate the arcane manner iPhoto stores and organizes images. I use it only for photos from my iPhone.

  • Exporting Fotos from IPhoto to Facebook

ok I am using Iphoto version 6. I am having problems with exporting files from IPhoto to Facebook. The editing touches on the fotos do not show up on my facebook album.
    2 attempts:
1st i tried to go to the Modified Folder, where my edited pictures are store through IPhoto, to upload. I did but once uploaded, the edits do not show.
2nd attempt, i downloaded facebook editor Iphoto patch. And everytime i try to upload the fotos, my iphoto closes. like the support side said, i have found the application and went to view contents to delete the patch then reinstalled it. And still I cannot enter the program to upload my iphotos to facebook.
Will someone please help me? Thanks

The sure way is to select the photos and export them to a desktop folder (file menu ==> export) and upload using the Facebook web upload from that folder
If you are having problems with the third party facebook iPhoto uploaded you should contact them for support

  • Photo preview blank when browsing Aperture Library from iPhoto

    Hello to everyone,
I need to import in iPhoto some photo of my Aperture's Library, but when I open it from iPhoto I can see all the pictures exept the lastest that I've imported in the Aperture Library (that have been taken with a Canon EOS 550D with RAW format): I see a blank icon (that can I select and import in my iPhoto library) instead its preview.
In Aperture the Canon EOS 550D RAW format works correctly, but I can't see the preview of the image in the browser under iPhoto.
Can anyone help me solving this problem?
I have Snow Leopard 10.6.7 (with all the updates) and the lastest versione of both iPhoto and Aperture.
    Thanks.
    Andrea

    Hi Terence,
thanks for the reply, but I've already regenerated all my previous (the entire library), but with no success.. I still continue to see a blank icon browsing the Aperture Library from iPhoto.
But I see that each time I enter in Aperture, it alway restart processing library (but only for some photos).. when it finish that process, I close Aperture and when I enter in it again, it restart processing the same photos.. again and again and again
    Any other suggestion?

  • Since installing OS X 10.7.5 and iPhoto 9.4, I can no longer export photos from iPhoto.  I get a message that iPhoto quit while using the HPPhotoExport plugin.

Since installing OS X 10.7.5 and iPhoto 9.4, I can no longer export photos from iPhoto.  I get a message that "iPhoto quit unexpectedly while using the HPPhotoExport plugin."

    Trash the HPPHoto Export Plugin
    /Library/Application Support/iPhoto/*/HPPhotoExport
    Remember you have two Libraries:
    HD/Library and
    HD/Users/Your Name/ Library
On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library
    It may be in either.

  • Can I export photos from iphoto to lightroom?

can I export photos from iphoto to lightroom?

Not very knowledgeable on iPhoto are we?
The problem with iPhoto is it copies and or moves all your photo into it's database structure which is just a pain
It moves nothing. It can copy, or reference the images.
Even Picasa is better then iPhoto as it actually displays RAW images.
As Keith says, iPhoto work with every format that the OS supports - in other words all the same ones as Aperture.
iPhoto doesn't even support Adobe DNG format.
    Going for 0/3 ?
As for migrating from iPhoto to Lightroom:  Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.

How do I export photos from iphoto to a memory card?

Not using the correct structure. Camera's use a very exact structure and the only way the camera will see photos on the card is for them to be in that exact structure
