Problems Exporting & Menu Gray Out

I have used iMovie since version 1, and have always had awesome results. I have encountered two problems: First, I have finished a short movie (5 minutes or so) and tried to export to camera ( Which I have done many times) and about halfway through, the video hangs and the sound continues. This happens when I try on 3 different machines (the third is a 400 Mghz iMac). The second problem, is that the transition menu is grayed out. I can still drop and drag transitions and update them, so really this is more of an annoyance than a huge problem. Any thoughts?

I quote Steve Summers1:
”I found out that since I had done an upgrade install of Tiger, I still had old versions of QuickTime components in my /Users/~/Library/QuickTime/ folder. These had the same names as the new QuickTime 7 components which were in the /System/Library/QuickTime/ folder. QuickTime was trying to load the old components from my user library into the new QuickTime application.
”I deleted the old ones from the user location, along with some of the really old (circa 2002) non-competing components which were still in there. Then I restarted, just for good measure.
”My error messages went away, and QuickTime 7 is working as it should.”

  • "Viewing PDF After Exporting" is grayed out!

I am using Adobe Design Premium CS5 (specifically Adobe InDesign).  When setting up a new PDF preset, I have selected for compatabilty Acrobat 8/9.  The problem I am having is that the selection for "View PDF after Exporting" is grayed out.  What can I do to get it usable?

Thank you for responding so quickly.  The tech team here at school moved all my files and programs to another drive, in the process they lost all my preferences, PDF presets, and more.  So I am trying from memory to reconstruct all the tweeking I have done in PHotoshop and InDesign over the last two years - and I am not doing so well.  In the past I have had the ability to select "Viewing PDF after Exporting".
As for restoring the preferences - that is out of my league and will have to suggest that to the tech team.

  • When clicking on the Finder icon in the dock the Main Menu grays out ... what's wrong ... how do I fix?

    Product: iMac, OS X 10.9.5 (13F34)
Processor: 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 32 GB 160 MHz DDr3
    Storage: 3.12 TB Fusion Drive
    PROBLEMS:
    1. When clicking on the Finder icon in the dock, the main menu grays out and the window with documents, applications etc., does not pop up.
    2. iMac is not showing up in iCloud.com and, not syncing with my MacBook Pro, iPad Mini and iPhone.
This situation seemed to appear after doing updates on my iMac.
    TROUBLESHOOTING I'VE TRIED:
    1. rebooted,
    2. repaired permissions,
    3. booted in safe-mode and let the basic tests run then rebooted to normal mode. Afterwards, the problem seemed to be corrected, however, it re-appeared shortly thereafter and still exists.

Go to the Finder's General preference pane and reset the New Finder windows show: option.  Try changing it to some other folder, try it and then back again.
If that doesn't jump start it try moving the com.apple.finder.plist file from your Home/Library/Preferences folder to the Desktop, reboot and then reset the Finder preferences.
For Mavericks and Yosemite go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:

  • File Export is grayed out in QuickTime Pro!

I am scheduled to perform some songs on Saturday, so I need to learn them. I planned to purchase the songs through iTunes, but they are available only as video clips--not as audio files. I thought I would buy the videos and export them with QuickTime.
When I noticed that the Export feature was unavailable in the free version of QT, I went to the store to buy the Pro license. I chatted with an online store rep who assured me that I would be able to export the audio from my video clips in .wav format. So I plumped for the $33.
Having upgraded my QT to QT Pro, I now find that File > Export is grayed out. In a separate thread from this forum, I read that it's possible that iTunes video clips cannot be exported due to DRM; I need someone to contradict this and tell me that I can get what I've paid for here.
    Any advice highly appreciated.

As much as I hate to hear that, Kirk, I thank you for the lightning-quick response. At least the mystery is solved.

  • I have Photoshop CC why is my 3D menu grayed out?

I have Photoshop CC why is my 3D menu grayed out?
I preferences it says open GLDrawing must be enabled to use these settings. What does that mean?

    Hi Lisa
I don't know what operating system you are using, and I am not familiar with AMD video cards so I don't know the likely age and specs of your computer, but you need to make sure the driver is updated directly from the AMD site
Click on Drivers + Support and select your operating system from the drop down

  • Sip dialer port export option grayed out in configuration manager ucce 10

    Hi,
I am configuring the outbound option for ucce 10, when i configure the sip dialer port (dialer conifguration) in conifiguration manager, i just added 5 ports, i can see this ports showing in dialer process on the PG, but i need to export this ports to Unified communication manager, i could not able to export it because this option grayed out (i did select all, or individual selection both are having export option grayed out)
    Any idea?
    with Regards,
    Manivannan

Exporting port configuration is only allowed for SCCP, in SIP Dialer Deployment its actually not needed and that why its grayed out.
//but i need to export this ports to Unified communication manager//
in Sip Dialer you don't need to create any Port For Dialer under CUCM. its only required in SCCP.
Sip Dialer port Directly registers with VG.

  • Problems exporting to H264 out of Premiere CC

I'm trying to export out of Adobe Premiere CC (7.2.1) to H.264 (quicktime specifically) and am having some rather persistent issues with image quality/artifacting.
    I'm on Mavericks 10.9.2
I'm working with 2.8 Ghz Intel Xeon Processors, 32gb ram, and have tried two different graphics cards. An AMD Radeon 5770 1GB and a NVidia GTX 680 2GB.
My source footage is primarily ProRes 1920x1080 29.97.
My output setting is Quicktime .MOV H.264 1920x1080 29.97 at 20 mb/s using Maximum render quality.
I've set the video renderer to use Open CL, CUDA, and Software Only and have gotten identical results.
I've also tried exporting both out of Premiere and Media Encoder and have gotten identical results.
The quality of the export is dramatically lower than what I'm accustomed to with this bitrate and resolution. Our delivery format for TV and the Web is H.264, so I'm fairly used to this filetype. I know, what it's supposed to look like at certain resolutions and bitrates. In the past, when we used Final Cut, we would output to a ProRes master and export an H.264 MOV from Quicktime 7. If I use that workflow, (exporting to ProRes master from Premiere and then encoding that ProRes Master to H.264 using QT7), I get much better results. More detail in the image. Way less banding. A much sharper image.
The problem is that we've made the move to Premiere, and would like to take advantage of the Premiere workflow. Being able to skip the step of exporting a ProRes master would save time and storage. But I can't do that with these quality issues. Has anyone had similar issues exporting to H.264 .MOV from Premiere CC?

Just thought I'd update this post once more with a bit more information I've learned. I think what was ultimately causing the drop in quality for my encode was the keyframes option in Premiere. I think the way this happens is that when you select the "quicktime" format in the export settings menu, it defaults to the "NTSC DV" encoding preset. By default, the NTSC DV Keyframe value is "1" and the option to change it is grayed out. But, If you change the video codec (as opposed to changing the preset) to "H.264", the keyframe option is un-grayed, but it inherits whatever the value was in the previous video codec that was chosen, as opposed to automatically assigning a value that's appropriate to the resolution, codec, and bitrate you've chose. So, in my case, the H.264 codec had all the right information that I usually use (like resolution, bit-rate, etc.), but it was using a keyframe value that's normally used for NTSC DV. I'm not accustomed to adjusting keyframe values, so I didn't notice the discrepancy for quite awhile, and had bad exports as a result.

  • Save for Web and Device Grayed menu grayed out

Using Photoshop 11.0.1 (CS4) and Mac OSX 10.5.6), I have an action that saves a retouched file first as a high quality jpg and then as a optimized jpg for the web. It has worked fine in the past, but today when running the action I received a warning that the Export command was not available. I tried manually exporting the using the Save for Web and Devices menu item, but it is grayed out and not available. The file is sized to 1024 pixels on the longest side, no layers and in 8 bit mode.
So far I have done the following:
Trashed the Save for Web preference file
    Repaired permissions
    Scanned for viruses
    Rebooted the system
Any other ideas short of a reinstall?

  • Adobe Indesign 3 Menu grayed out

All the tools in the menu along the top are grayed out. They are unworkable. Also when I initially open Indesign 3, the title page opens but lacks the green and red button on the upper left corner and seems disabled. I reinstalled Indesign 3 and thought the problems were solved. They were not! Any suggestions? Are the 2 problems connected?

Turn off your connection to the internet, restart ID and in the ensuing dialog, set register to never.

  • IMovie 9.0.4, all export options grayed out.  Have I missed a step?

I'm still on OS 10.6 so I can't udate iMovie software.  I have a little movie, under 4:00, finished and want to export but all options grayed out.  Have I missed a finishing step or is this just an obsolete software/OS problem?  Thanks.  Chris

  • Any update on why File Export is grayed out in Premiere Elements 8?

I just "upgraded" from 7. In the past versions I used Export command to quickly get myself an audio track exported.  Not a huge deal because it looks like I can accomplish the same thing in the "Share" area, but why wouldn't they remove the menu command instead of graying out?  Also, irritating because I've wasted 30 minutes trying to figure that out as well as another 30 min. having to go through the NVIDIA driver issue. Arggggghhhh.
    Thx!
    Jeremy

Ah, that would certainly make perfect sense. Thank you for that observation. Now, I feel better about the coding in PrE 8!
    Appreciated,

  • File Export is grayed out when Photo Book selected - worked yesterday

I have been assembling a Photo book from various scanned photos. In order to share a preview before send it of to be printed, I used the File>Export option to produce a Quicktime movie. It worked very well but today I wanted to change some of the movie settings.
When I tried to repeat the exercise, I found that the File>Export option is now grayed out and I cannot access it. The options to Share to web and iDVD are still available and I can print to PDF.
I cannot think of anything that has changed since yesterday. I tried a reboot but it made no difference.
    Any suggestions appreciated.
    Dave

    David:
Try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist. What are you trying to export, the book? That option is not available from the book mode. Only from albums, slideshows or the main library. Did you do the export from a slideshow you made of the photos used in the book?
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Export option grayed out

My export option on soundtrack pro 3.0 is grayed out and I cannot access any export options??
Any help is appreciated.Song is saved as a soundtrack pro file but it is 125MB and I want to export it as an aiff file.

Are you in the multi-track editor or the audio waveform editor? The export menu item is only available if you have tracks in the MTE.
To save your audio file as an AIFF, choose File > Save As... and change the file type to AIFF.

  • Export AAF grayed out in SoundTrack Pro 2.01

  • Recent Places menu grayed out

In many of my applications the Recent Menu stopped working. In Quark XPress 6.5 the menu is there but it is grayed out and there are no recent places listed. In Adobe CS2 it just plain doesn't work. If I try to pull that menu down, then the whole application locks up. I've switched to the Adobe Dialog in Adobe CS2 just so I don't accidently try to select the Recent Places menu. However a pure cocoa app like BBEdit the menu still works fine. I think this just started recently when switching to Tiger. I've reinstalled Tiger from scratch and it still does it. Any chance somebody knows how I could fix this problem. I tried throwing out my com.apple.recetnplaces.plist file and it didn't help. I also tried throwing out Quark and Adobe prefs, but it didn't fix the problem. I'm running 10.4.3.

I've had the same problem with a computer in my department. We just tried this and it worked:
(This was posted by thundermatt on the Apple forums.)
First, go to Terminal and enter: ls /volumes/
If it lists any volumes other than your internal hard drives, this may be the problem. In my case, a mounted volume from my Windows PC was showing up, even though I'd ejected it.
The fix was to just run: sudo rm -R /volumes/X
...X being the name of the "extra" volume.
WARNING: Be absolutely sure that this extra volume is really disconnected first!! I actually unplugged the PC's network cable to be sure.
