Problems Exporting to PDF with ID 5.5 - specific symptoms

I'm hoping the symptoms of my problem are specific enough that someone will have a good idea of what's wrong.
I have multiple chapter files that I use to make up a single book file, which I create the pdf from. Here's what happens:
1. When I click on the "print the book" icon at the bottom of the book window, ID will crash.
2. So instead, I click on the pull-down menu at the upper right of the window and select "Export book to pdf".
3. Now, it generates a pdf but in the pdf some pages are with a single page from the ID file and some have two pages spread across a single pdf page, very randomly it appears.
4. To get around this (or so I thought) I went to document setup in ID and deselected the "Facing Pages" checkbox.
5. As soon as I do this, the left side header and footer of all pages in that chapter get offset to the left. Ok, so I go to the master page and realign them.
6. Now I export again in the manner described above and the page numbering comes out all messed up in the pdf. Even if the ID (source) file has pages 6-1, 6-2, etc. in the pdf every page will be marked as 6-1.
Any help on this will be greatly appreciated! I am using Windows XP.

Firstly - the 4-6 steps are unnescearry - I recommend you go back to the original layout.

I recommend you delete that Book file and create a new one.
if the problem persists, try selecting individual documents in the Book to export to PDF or to print. It could be a specific file causing the issue.
If some pages are coming out as "spreads" then you must have facing pages in some documents and some single pages in another document or something? I recommend turning off Spreads in the PDF and print settings.
It's a little unclear of your document structure - and your document sizes. What are the sizes of the document in all the individual Chapters. Can you post screen shots of the Book panel - and also of each Chapter file (just a single or spread of a page(s))

  • Problem exporting a PDF with Helvetica Neue

I am using InDesign CS6 on Mac OSX 10.8.4. I have a PDF with Helvetica Neue in it. When I export this file to a PDF my client claims that the text is jumbled and appears to be widely spaced/leaded. I've read it's an issue with Helvetica Neue as a system font, and found the following solution, but wondered if there was a simpler answer that does not involve messing with my system fonts.

I am sorry this is the simplest way if you need to use exactly that font.

  • Problems exporting to PDF with AI placed files

I have a 24 page document with placed illustrator files. When I go to export to PDF it takes hours to export. When I change all the placed images to JPG it exports fine. Anyone know why this is happening. I thought the whole point of the newer versions of InDesign was you were able to use native Adobe files.
What are the best file types to place in InDesign?

If would help to know versions and OS. ALWAYS tell us the version(s) of program(s) you are using, what OS, and the version of that OS. Some people overdo it with model and  speed of CPU, RAM, video card, monitor size, hard drive space, make and model of car, and shoe size. Don’t need any of that crap.

  • Exporting to pdf with new numbers app

recently i upgraded from numbers 09 to numbers 3.0. i have a worksheet with 2 pages. with numbers 09 when i export to pdf it export as pdf with 2 pages works fine. but in numbers 3.0 when i wxport the same worksheet it combines both pages in one pdf page so i can't print it on 2 pages. any solution ?

    Vikas
The solution is to Print to PDF rather than Export to PDF.
You will see that there are two pages in the Print dialog preview, and when you choose PDF, Open in Preview, you will see that the PDF version of the file has two pages.

  • Export to PDF with scaling

    Hello
I have completed a book in InDesign at a specific page size
Now, we decided we want the book to be 7% larger (a proportionate scale)
Is there a way to export to PDF from InDesign to a specific scale ratio?
I am asking this question here because I dont see a buit-in option in the export dialog
I was wondering maybe this can be done by script.
If someone can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it
    Thanks

  • Problem  exporting in PDF X-4 with conversion in RGB

I need to export in PDF X-4 converting the images in RGB color space with SuperRGB output intent.
The problem is that when I choose  "Convert in RGB" ,in the export PDF windows, I can see only the ROMM-RGB ICC profile as output intent.
All the other RGB profile are missed.
If I don't choose PDF X-4 I can see all the RGB ICC profile installed.
    Can anybody explain the why?

The problem is that when I choose  "Convert in RGB" ,in the export PDF windows, I can see only the ROMM-RGB ICC profile as output intent.
You can't use a display class profile (i.e. AdobeRGB, sRGB, ProPhoto RGB) as a destination or output intent when you are exporting to PDF/X-4. You can convert everything to an RGB display profile, but not with the PDF/X standard.

  • WAD: Problems when exporting to PDF with embedded .swf

I'm using Web Application Designer (WAD) 7 and have created a template with an "Export to PDF" button and an embedded .swf flash file which is an Xcelsius dashboard.
What i'm trying to do is show the information I want on my dashboard and then export that to a PDF to email out to multiple users who would be interested in the data each month.  If exporting to PDF isn't the best route to get a snapshot of this dashboard out to other users and there's an easier way please let me know, but here are the issues i'm having:
    1) When I have the dashboard showing the information I want and click the "Export to PDF" button, the dashboard reloads as the PDF settings window pops up and gets reset back to it's initial state.
    2)  If I ignore problem #1 and click on 'OK' in the Export dialog anyway after selecting PDF settings, my Adobe Reader pops up but then shows a message saying "The file cannot be opened because it has no pages".  Basically it doesn't see the .swf as being a component to take a snapshot of and print on a PDF. I did try adding a text component just so there was something on the template and I then get a PDF with that text component showing and no .swf snapshot.
Has anyone come up with a workaround for this?  I've tried using the BEx Broadcaster with the 'Send' option but get the same results in regards to the blank page.
Thanks as always for the help!

    Thanks for the reply.
The dashboard is connected to a query in NetWeaver BI to get its data.  So the request of the user is to be able to adjust the dashboard to show the information they need (well say of a certain region) and then take a snapshot of that and email it out to co-workers in Group A.  Then the user will adjust the dashboard to show other data (for a different region we'll say) and take a snapshot to email out to co-workers in Group B. etc and etc.
I have looked into installing a PDFCreator print driver but that wouldn't be feasible to get it on all machines in the business.  I've also looked into getting it as a .jpeg which would suffice, but am unsure if there is a way to do it with script and connect that to the dashboard when a button is pushed (will look into this).  This seems like a topic for over in the Xcelsius forum now.
I used the following code within the <body></body> tags of the WAD's xhtml to embed the .swf:
    <object id="dashboard" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0" height="600" width="800" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" >
    <param name="Movie" value="bwmimerep:///sap/bw/mime/Customer/JavaScript/dashboard.swf" />
    <embed src="bwmimerep:///sap/bw/mime/Customer/JavaScript/dashboard.swf" name="dashboard" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" />

  • Problem while exporting to PDF with japanese character in Crystal Report X1

    Hi,
I am using Crystal report X1 with classic ASP on a Windows 2003 Enterprise Server, SP 2. In my application, I have to export the report into PDF, CSV, DOC formats. I am have Japanese strings in the report. While exporting to PDF, empty boxes has displayed in the place of Japanese string and in CSV file, question mark has been displayed instead of Japanese string. But the Doc file is exported correctly. I have not installed any language support software either in server or in client machine. I have used MS Gothic and Arial Unicode MS fonts for the text-objects which has Japanese strings.
Please give me a solution so that I will get PDF file with Japanese strings instead of empty box or question mark.
Do I need to install any language support pack software?
    Thanks in advance.

    Manju

    Hi Don,
Thank You for your reply. I have resolved the issue of exporting to pdf from crystal report X1 having Japanese data after installing the language pack.
But when I am exporting to CSV or TXT, i am getting ??? instead of Japanese characters. I have tried "export" through crystal report designer and got ??? instead of Japanese.
The Crystal report version I am using is Crystal report X1  11.0.0.1282
Crystal Report Desinger is installed in Windows Xp machine
Font set for Text object is Arial Unicode MS, MS PMincho, MS PGothic
Does the Crystal report X1 11.0.0.1282 has the UTF-8 support for CVS / txt
    Please provide me a solution
    Thanks in advance,

  • I am having problems exporting to PDF using InDesign for Mac.

    Hi all!
I just started using the Creative Suite on Mac and have run into a couple problems. One is that when I set up a document in InDesign using "Facing Pages" and then export to PDF, the document exports each set of "Facing Pages" as one singular spread (my 20 page InDesign document becomes a 10 page PDF). Once it is a PDF, there are no page break lines in the center of the spread to indicate that they are two separate pages, and when I try to set up viewing preferences in Acrobat (single or double page), it too recogrnizes each spread as a single page.
When I used to do this in InDesign using Windows, whether I exported to PDF or printed to PDF from a document set up with "Facing Pages," each page would still be considered separate once converted to PDF (20 page InDesign docment becomes a 20 page PDF).
This also leads me to my next question : I see that on Mac, there is no option for printing to PDF, but I notice a quality difference specifically when it comes to linework (vector information) that has been "placed" in the document from Illustrator. Is there any way to achieve the quality of printing to PDF on Mac?
    Thank you in advance!
    Gabby

Hi Bob, I just tried your suggestion, but the interactive PDF is in spreads by default, no way to change the setting. When I choose to view by single page in Acrobat, it displays a single spread.
When I choose to view by spreads, it displays 4 pages, two spreads. That's the topic of this whole discussion, I believe. I do own CS 6 at home, however my employer supplied me with CS 5.5. And I have very little, if any, influence on purchasing.
So, I have no good way to make an interactive PDF (with differing recto/verso headers and footers), that is accessible and shows the correct header/footer. It's either single pages (with one header/footer), or recto/verso headers/footers but PDF only as a spread, as well as I can tell.
Unless you know something else I can do...
    Best, Marilyn

  • Cannot export to PDF with grayscale PDF in layout

    IDCS5.5, MacPro, OSX 10.7.4
I am working on a grayscale teacher’s guide that accompanies a CMYK schoolbook. The introduction pages contain miniature pages of the workbook (formatted as grayscale PDF), but InDesign refuses to output those pages as PDF ("Impossible d’exporter le fichier PDF"), or when it does produce a PDF (when exporting page by page), Acrobat warns of a possible problem and stuff is missing on the resulting page, not necessarily from the grayscale minipages.
I have tried grayscale PDFs created from the original CMYK PDFs in Acrobat Pro X, grayscale PDFs exported from the original CMYK file in InDesign CS6, PDFs reduced to 20% in InDesign, PDFs reduced to 20% with a third-party application and imported in ID at 100%, and all sort of variations on the export values. The problem is also present in InDesign CS4 (after exporting the file as IDML) and in CS6.
The thing is, there is no problem at all if I use the CMYK PDF version of the minipages (I then turned the resulting PDF into grayscale with Acrobat Pro X). But the printer expects to see only grayscale images in a grayscale job, not color... and a Photoshop version of those minipages is not acceptable.
Has anybody encountered that problem? Can you reproduce it, i.e. can you export to PDF if you use any type of grayscale PDFs in your layout?

FOUND IT! Inspired by Rob solution, I was able to export my InDesign CS5.5 document containing some grayscale PDFs to PDF/X-3:2002 (and PDF/X-1a:2001), with or without the standard, but without converting to destination. For some reason, it does not work with PDF/X-4:2008, nor with any of the other presets.

  • Export a PDF with Imposition and wraparound

    Hi everybody,
I'm a relative newbie here, and I apologize for that.  I'm looking for some help in CS5 with imposition.
    Specifically:
I created a 28 page booklet, 8.5x11, for a client that has 28 pages.   Same booklet as last year.  However, this year, the client - to save money - wants to print on tabloid paper.  So an 8.5x11 format needs to convert to 17x11.
The printer they have chosen wants the inDesign document as a PDF.
Two unique problems:  one, how do I export to PDF a document that allows for imposition.  And two, the front and back cover are wraparound (a single image).
Or, more concisely, how do I format this correctly?  And can it be done in a single file?  Or would a second file be required to handle the wraparound of 1 and 28?

I would have thought that too, but that's not what I'm hearing from the printer.
You are correct: I have been told by the printer that 14 11x17 sheets, printed double-sided, and golden in half, will save the client significant money. Hence the reason the client made the change.  So getting my imposition right kinda got me scratching my head. But let me revisit that with them.
The cover issue I still need to be clear on:  how pages 1 and 28 can have a wraparound image , and still assimilate into a layout. How would you handle that in your print house?  Right now I moved 28 to precede 1, built the layout, and then moved that half image back down in the layout. Is that correct?
Thanks so much for your insight.

  • Exporting to PDF with Fillable and Savable Fields

    Hi,
I was wondering if it is at all possible to export from Crystal Reports to a pdf with fields that can be filled in and saved by the user?
I have read up on Visual CUT and it seems like I can do it from there. The problem with Visual CUT is that it offers way more than what I need. I only need the ability to create a pdf with fields that can be filled in and saved by the user.

    Hi,
In my experienced it cant, you can export it to pdf but you dont have the ability to make it fillable, unless doing it manually, from the exported pdf, install an Adobe Professional software to have capability to save data's.

  • Indesign crashes when exporting to pdf with .eps and .ai files placed

    Hi everyone,
I have an Indesign file with 4 placed Illustrator .eps file placed. Whenever I try to export to pdf, it starts to export and then when it reaches a page with a .eps file on it, it hovers for a minute and then Indesign crashes. I decided to save these 4 .eps files as .ai files and replace them. Now when I export to pdf, it gets through the export and a pdf file is created but immediately after, Indesign crashes.
Is this a sign of corrupt .eps or .ai files or a corrupt Indesign file? All I know is that if I remove all the image files, then the ID file is fine, ie. it exports and ID doesn't crash.
Is there a way to test either .eps, .ai or Indesign files for corruption, and if they are corrupt is it possible to repair them?
    Appreciate any help offered.

You haven't said which version of Indesign you are using or other specs, but I would bet that you are using CS2 on an Intel Mac. CS2 runs under Rosetta on an Intel Mac, and I have found that memory problems are often the result of crashes like the ones you have described. My advice is to stay away from EPS files and use AI or PSD, especially if the file is a bitmap or photo. This has eliminated all the crashes that used to occur on my system. As far as the crashes after making PDF files, I don't have a solution other than restarting Indesign after exporting a PDF file or two at a time. The same Rosetta memory problem seems to mess it up for me. Mine would just exit from Indesign with no warning. Hope this helps.

  • Problem exporting / printing pdf

I have an SSRS report that contains several sub reports - Mostly with the same background colour.  If I print the report it prints fine - all backgrounds are the same colour, If I export to PDF it appears to be fine but when I print the PDF the graph
in the report has a blueish background.  I can print as PDF using CutePDF and then print with no problem - It's just when I export as PDF in Visual Studio.
    Any ideas???
    Regards
    Andy

    Hi Andy,
I have test the scenario in my testing environment, however, everything goes well when exporting to PDF format. In order to trouble shoot this issue more efficiently, I need to clarify some information.
What’s the expression of background color in your reports?
Here you mentioned Visual Studio, do you mean Preview the RDL report in the BIDS environment or browse the RDLC report in the web application?
Could you please post the screenshot about the graph with PDF format when exported from “Visual Studio”?
Detail information is a big help for us supply the further assistance. Besides, please try to export the report from report manager and check the result again.
For more information about export a report to a PDF file, please see:
