Problems finding new events imported to iPhoto 11

I've just upgraded to Lion (not sure if this has anything to do with it) and have iphoto 11.  When I import new photos to iphoto I name the events.  When I try to locate these newly named and imported events under the event tab, however, they are not there.  I can only find them when I click on Last Import, then I see the named events, but not when I try to view them in my events library.  Why not?

In last Import right click on one of the pics and select 'Show Event'

  • Problems on new Imac importing photos to iphoto 11 with sds

I have a new 27"imac on which I have already had to erase and reinstall everything when I tried to import my iphoto library (using target discs and firewire), because it turned out that the old iphoto library was corrupted. I rebuilt that library on my macbook pro and iphoto works fine there. (So far.) When I try to import photos from my cards to iphoto on my new imac i get the beach ball and it hangs up with 'preparing to import". Nothing happens, and I have to eject the sd, and force quit iphoto 11. I have downloaded aperture 3 and am wondering if it is better to just import my library to that than worry about iphoto until they fix the bugs? I have already checked and repaired permissions and checked the hard drive, which appears to be ok. Or is there a fix for this problem?

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Missing faces/places after event import from iPhoto to A3

    Hello,
I am interested in switching from iPhoto 09 (8.1.1) to Aperture 3. I downloaded the Trial Version yesterday evening. I have a very big iPhoto library (28.000+ pictures) and I did not want to import all of them right now. I wanted just a few events in A3 to play around with it.
I imported 3 different events into A3 via File - Import - Show iPhoto Browser. I selected the 3 events and put them per drag & drop into project. The few pictures were imported really quickly but I have some problems afterwards.
    1. All the pictures are missing the faces and places which I assigned them in iPhoto.
    2. Except the pictures taken with the iPhone - they had the places assigned to them.
    3. I do not have any issues with the keywords. They are all there.
First I though I made a mistake somewhere. So I tried this at my OneToOne at the Apple Store today. We did the same thing on their iMac and had the same issues. After importing an event we were missing the places and faces.
When I got home I created a new user on my MacBook and tried the same thing with that user account. I created a new iPhoto library (with a few pictures in it) and a new A3 library. I imported pictures with assigned faces and places and some pictures taken with the iPhone as well.
Every time I import a few events A3 does the same thing:
~ It imports the different events into different albums in one project.
~ All the photos taken with the iPhone will keep the places pin.
~ All other photos will loose their places pin.
~ All imported photos will loose their faces names.
~ All pictures will keep their keywords.
Does anybody else have this problem? Any ideas?

I'm having a similar problem with missing Places after importing from iPhoto 09 to A3.
After scratching my head over it, I created a new account on my Mac, imported some pictures from my camera and iPhone, and did some tests with Places. Here's what I figured out:
To retain the Faces and Places information from iPhoto, you need to use Aperture's
    File-->Import-->iPhoto Library...
    command, not the
    File-->Import-->Show iPhoto Browser...
    command.
My testing indicates that Faces were imported successfully, but Places are imported with caveats:
Places data was correctly imported for the following cases:
    1. iPhone pictures with embedded GPS location.
    2. Pictures whose Places location was assigned with the Paste Location feature in iPhoto.
    3. Pictures whose location was individually assigned with the i (information) button and then manually searched for in the Places map.
Places data was NOT imported when the location was assigned to the entire Event in iPhoto. That is, rather than assigning locations to individual photos, I assigned a location to the entire Event, then that location information was NOT successfully imported into Aperture.
I have reported this as a bug to Apple. I hope this helps clarify the behavior for you.

  • How do I create a new movie in iMovie 10.0.2; problem with new event

AS many others are, I'm having trouble with imovie 10.0.2
When I try to Create a new movie, after I select a theme, a small box opens, asking for a name
and which Event to use.  The default event is "Updated Projects," and the dropdown arrows reveal other selections, but they are all the events that came over from imove 9.  Why won't it let me select a new event?  And what is the purpose of the Updated Projects.
And if you'll allow one more: I'd rather use imovie 10, but it appears that my recent iphoto videos are no longer made available for use in this version when I open iphoto videos when trying to make a movie - is this correct? Thanks, jeb

Thanks.  I now see that I need to go to File then start new event there.
And on the "updated projects" point, I'll have to play around with that so I can understand it better, I hope.
But on my last point, to clarify, I can access my iphoto videos using the CURRENT version of imovie, but when I use the LAST imovie version, I can only get iphoto videos that were imported into iphoto PRIOR to my upgrading to Mavericks (at least I think that is what has happened?!).  ( and I'm using the most recent version of iphoto in all instances)  Any other thoughts on this?  Thanks.

This is a feature of Itunes I find extremely frustrating. It's ability to find artwork is mediocre at best. I have to manually import about 40% of my artwork.

  • Dates does not follow import from iPhoto

    Hi!
I wanted to learn Aperture 3 so I imported my iPhoto library with a couple of Events and stuff, but when I got going I noticed that tha date of every picture I imported was set to 2001-01-01 01:00:00. But when I import them from Photo Stream the dates are right.
Why did this happen, and is there any way to fix it? It took a long time to import the library, so I don't wan't to try that as a first option...
    Thanks!

I also observed this problem on some images imported from iPhoto. In all cases the the date has already been wrong in iPhoto after upgrading the iPhoto library to version 9.3.2. And when importing to Aperture the wrong date was transferred.
The problem (with the images I inspected) was, that the edited versions show the wrong capture date, not the original (master) image files. The originals have the correct capture date in the EXIF information.
In my Aperture library I recovered the date by collecting all images with the wrong date in a smart album, selectig them and using the "Photos > New version from Original" command.
The new versions all had the correct date.
BTW: For my images the date was not 2001, but 1901 - more than a hundred years off I only saw this in Aperture in the "Date created" Exif tag, not in the "Date" tag. iPhoto is showing the full year 1901.

  • Importing into iPhoto 6 from Sony DSC-T1 crashes the application

Until I updated to iLife 06 I never had trouble importing photos into iPhoto from my Sony DSC-T1. Now, within seconds of clicking on the "import now" button the program crashes, and I've sent the obligitory bug report to Apple, but now the card is full and I don't know where to turn...
    12 PB   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   iLife 06

Strange. Sorry to hear about your problems. Rather than importing via iPhoto directly from the camera, why don't you try getting the images off the card in the Finder? When you plug in the camera an icon for the memory card will appear on your desktop. Quit iPhoto if it automatically comes up. Create a folder on your desktop. Double click the memory card icon, and browse its contents until you find the image files. Drag them to the folder you created, and wait for the copy to complete. Then launch iPhoto and drag the folder of images into iPhoto.
Hopefully Apple support will be able to help you with that camera import into iPhoto. Is it on the iPhoto supported list?

  • Lightroom photos edited in PS CS3 & saved on desktop, cannot be imported into iPhoto or resized in M

    Hi,
After editing photos from Lightroom in Photoshop CS3, I saved them on the desktop (Mac, Leopard 10.2.5). With these saved photos I find I cannot:
    Import into iPhoto or
Resize in Mail (large, medium or small) - they stay the same size.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Caroline

It is too big for mail. -From CS3 -File> Save for web & devices and use this copy for mail.
Better from LR -Menu-Photo>Edit in Adobe CS3. Do the works. Menu File Save-save picture to original folder if dialog opens Click red dot and edited pict appears on LR next to original one-The edited picture should be export... This opens a dialog -a copy will be send to a folder Name it and give it a location ( To Mail ) (Desk)-From File Settings chose Jpg and sRGB ,size W640 H640 and 72 pixels-check copyright water mark if you have one- Minimized Embedded Metadata-From Post-Processing pick Mail Alias and EXPORT.
If you don't have a mail alias go to the folder where it was exported and drag the picture right into the Mail Icon on the dock or any open mail-now u can use the sizing from mail.

  • Problem Importing into iPhoto 11 Events after Photostream

Before Photostream, importing my photos into iPhoto worked fine for me.  By USB cable from my iPhone or camera, I imported and elected to import all of them.  They showed up under "Last Import", but I also had the option (I forget now the procedures I followed) to sort this Last Import into one or more existing or new Events that I could name.
I don't know if Photostream has caused the problem, but now after I follow the prior procedure and have a "Last Import" (which does show thumbnails of all the photos), I can't find out to create the actual Events into which I want to place these photos.  If I go to Photosteam, this does not help.  If I go to the automatically created, say, "Dec 2011 Photosteam" event folder, I can (painstakingly) create one or more events into which to sort the pictures in that folder--but at this point I lose many of the photos from that folder.  However, they are still in the main Photostream folder and in "Last Import".
If I go to "Events" in the source column at the left, I do not see the new pictures (they are only in Last Import, in Photostream, and, sometimes, in the most recent monthly folder automatically created for Photostream).  If I go to the Events dropdown menu, the selections (such as Create Event) are grayed out--irrespective of whether I have Selected All or selected any of the photos in the Last Import or Photosteam folder.  Thus, I can't get hold of the new pictures to put them into the events that I want.
How do I break apart the individual photos like I used to be able to do, so that I end up with photos divided into existing or newly created events?
Has anyone run into this problem?  Is anyone doing the same tasks without having any problem of this nature?  Anyone have a solution?

Okay, I think I've answered my own question, based on my looking further at other questions and answers in this forum.  I needed to control-click on one of the photos in my Photos or Last Import folders and select "Show Event" from the contextual menu at the bottom of the pop-up window.  This directed me way up in my library to near the beginning--instead of at the end (latest date) where I expected to find the event.  I then need to go to the View menu, then down to Sort Events, and then click to Sort By Date (I don't know how this had become un-selected.)
Once I was able to find the photos, I was able to follow my old procedures to continue creating events and sorting photos--all without needing to go into Photostream (since I had uploaded into iPhoto the photos I wanted to sort by USB cable from my camera and my iPhone).

  • Problem importing old iphoto library into new computer

SO I ORIGIONALLY WROTE THIS TOPIC:
"Ok so I just bought a new macbook pro with iphoto 08 and i want to transfer my pictures from my old Imac with im guessing iphoto 06 and all the albums to my new computer. How do i do this. I tried it once but i did it wrong because i only got the pictures over there but no albums so i deleted them on the new computer and am ready to try again"
    THEN I GOT THIS RESPONSE:
Quit iPhoto, copy the entire iPhoto library as a single entity from the old computer into the pictures folder on the new computer and launch iPhoto on the new computer - it will convert (a one way conversion) the library as needed and you will be set.
SO I DID THAT AND THE PHOTOS ARE THERE ON THE HARD DRIVE BUT WHEN I OPEN IPHOTO THERE IS NOTHING THERE
    PLEASE HELP

    Nick:
Have you checked the size of the copied library to make sure it's a valid one. To be sure you're opening the correct library launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and, when asked, select the option to choose a library. Navigate to your pictures folder and select the library to copied over from your old iMac.
If your sure that's the library from the old iMac and it doesn't indicate any photos try the following in order as needed:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open Photo window
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Hello, starting with today I have a strange problem: all events are correctly shown in the finder but in FCP-X there`s`none and every time I open it creates a new event. What is wrong?

Hello, starting with today I have a strange problem with Final Cut Pro X: all events are correctly shown in the finder but in FCP-X there`s`none and every time I open it creates a new event. What is wrong?

    Here`s the screenshot.
    But anyway:
The drive is Makintosh HD from my Macbook and it is shown in the event mediathek and in the projects. Since I`ve recognized this problem I installed FCPX again and consequently the event and project directory created by FCPX is where it should be and it shows all the test events including it`s files.
So what happens? Opening FCPX you see only one event and that a new empty event. All previous events are not shown there even if you can see them in the finder. So if you import again the clips they are in this new event library. After closing correctly FCPX and reopening there again is nothing than an new and empty event. What it does is that it recognized that i.e. there are events with previous numbers and so it creates an new one with the next available counting number.
If you want to open one event from the finder it by clicking to the file it opens FCPX but it says it cannot open the clicked file.

  • New user question re Events folder after iPhoto import

    Hi there everyone
I'm new to Aperture 3 having just bought it from the App Store earlier today. On the first launch of the app I chose to import the 14,000 or so images in my iPhoto library to Aperture 3, into its own library. It took a while, but all went swimmingly. I've now archived my old iPhoto library to an external HD (not currently mounted, or even attached usually...) and deleted it from my system drive.
Now, here's the bit I don't quite understand... In the Inspector, under the Library browser tab there's a folder called iPhoto Library - it contains my old iPhoto libraries that were arranged in folders. All good. But there's also a folder called 'Events' which contains a long alphabetised list of what were iPhoto events, but appearing here as Aperture projects. I don't need this - and yet anytime I open a project by double-clicking it in the Browser, that Events folder springs open and takes over my Inspector. If I close the folder my Browser view empties too.
As I understood it, any folders appearing in the 'Projects & Albums' section of the Library inspector are subsets of the main Library. And yet if I try to delete this 'Events' folder I first get a warning dialog (that I don't understand):
Some versions based on these master files are included in albums outside of the selection.
These versions will be removed from all Albums, Books, Light Tables, Web Pages, Web Journals, Slideshows, MobileMe Albums, Flickr Albums, and Facebook Albums.
and if I go ahead with it then my entire Library disappears.
If someone with better understanding of Aperture's organisational hierarchy could explain what's going on here, and hopefully how I can get rid of that 'Events' folder, I'd be most grateful.
    Thanks - Robin

Thanks for taking the time to reply, Frank. In the meantime I did read the manual (again...) as well as googling extensively (again...) and picking up some organisational tips from youtube videos etc. At the very least I'm moving towards a more workable organisational system now.
But to me this particular 'feature' of the application design seems odd. Compare it to another application that uses a library paradigm: iTunes. You import your albums and there's a dedicated browser for navigating them and finding the one you need. There's also a search system. (Just like Aperture...) If you choose to have any other items in the 'inspector' (I know that's not the right terminology) they're going to be playlists - specific subsets of the main library that serve a specific purpose. But you don't have to have any if you don't want or need them.
If iTunes worked like Aperture 3 then every album imported would go into that dedicated browser/search system *and* appear at the 'top level' of the inspector as some sort of playlist-equivalent. But I couldn't remove it from the inspector, or hide it, because that would delete the actual album... I'd have two choices - leave them there and let the vertical height of the inspector become unworkable, or start filing them away in some rigid folder structure that I'd have to dream up just for the sake of visual organisation.
iTunes doesn't work like that - neither does iPhoto, or mail, or any other application I can think of that's essentially library-based and has an inspector/browser feature. That seems odd.
Put it another way - if Aperture did *not* act as it did, creating a new Event in the Projects & Albums section of the inspector, for every single import, what would be lost? I think nothing. You'd still have a dedicated browser and search system. You could still have albums and smart albums for subsets of photos you happened to be working on. A dedicated, separate organisational hierarchy could still be made for those people who needed to work in a different way.
Like I say - it's workable, but seems odd. Maybe a month down the line I'll see the point of it and learn to love it. But I also wouldn't mind betting it won't survive into the next version of the application.
