Problems getting images to export down to 200kb limit for posting on websites

websites often have a size limit that they can accept when you download an image. For example BPN's forum has a 200KB limit. Since 3.3, I often have problems getting an export from a Canon raw file or DNG down to that size. I get an error message indicating that it cannot create an image that size. Never had the problem on 3.2. (note I can export to email but that is a very small file and I would like files closer to 200KB and within the 1000 x 800 pixels to be downloaded)...thoughts?

I too recently had major problems using filesize limit. I pretty-much never use it m'self, so its a dont-care to me personally, but my conclusion was: its broken.
PS - I did not scrutinize for a long time... - just got a lot of "can not make image" errors when I believed I should not have gotten those errors.
I'd suggest a good scrutinizing followed by an official bug report.
Honestly, I think controlling quality is a better solution, whenever possible (unless you have constraints imposed by an external agency...) The reason: not all photos need the same amount of bits to look decent. So, in general its better to have some photos take more while others take less, and have the average filesize be limited, not individual filesizes.

Problem getting images in ePub to appear correctly for Nook

I have been working on a book that is about 250 pages long in print format, with about 350 photographs that illustrate the text, which is a guide to the use of a particular digital camera model. After watching Anne-Marie Concepcion's course at Lynda.com and also using the book by Sandee Cohen and Diane Burns, Digital Publishing with Adobe InDesign CC, I was able to export the book successfully in ePub and mobi formats. The ePub looks fine in iBooks and the mobi looks fine in the Kindle apps. But I have not been able to get the images to appear properly when I preview the ePub for the Nook. I have tried every combination of export and conversion settings I could think of, but the images either look too large and distorted as if squeezed, or, if I use the CSS Size-Fixed option, the images look tiny, much too small to see details (though they will expand if clicked on). I eventually uploaded it through Nookpress.com to see if their conversion would help, but the book recently went on sale there, and when I downloaded it to check, the images did not appear at all. The same thing happens when I use the Preview function at the nookpress.com site; the screen shows broken link icons for all images.
I cannot think of anything else to do. Can anyone provide me with any suggestions for how to proceed, short of hiring an expert? Most of the images are 1800 pixels wide and roughly 1200 pixels tall in the InDesign document, with a resolution of 600 ppi. As noted above, I have tried all different combinations of the Use Existing Image for Graphic Objects, Preserve Appearance from Layout, CSS Size-Fixed, CSS Size Relative to Text Flow, and others, with no success. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Okay, thanks. That was helpful. I ran the file though Epubcheck and it did find various errors. I have replaced that file with another file that does not result in errors, but does generate a lot of warnings, all about having image file names with spaces in them. I'm assuming that's not what is causing the problem with the way the images display. The file that is in the Dropbox folder now is one that does show the images, but they appear distorted and too large when viewed on the Nook app on my Nexus tablet, but they look fine when viewed in iBooks on my Mac. Problem with image after exporting from Lightroom 5

Good day. Please can someone help me? I have Lightroom 5, and I have a problem in exporting edited images. At issue, do all the necessary settings and retreat noise and sharpness adjustment by brush adjustment tool, however, to export the image, noise and some minor adjustments are lost. Because in Lightroom visualize the way you wish, but after export, is not it the same? How do I get a different result? Thank you all!

Something got broken with my Lightroom 5.6 (Windows 7Pro) two days ago and I don't see any adjustments made with brush after exporting photos!
It's not a problem of library or RAW files - the same, work fine on other computers (iMac).
I tried to clean the computer with CC Cleaner Tool, and install everything again, but it didn't help.
I already lost 2 days trying to fix it, and I don't want to format the drive and install Windows again

Why "Export Error Codec Initialization Problem!" when I export using Adobe Media Encorder for FLV?

I get "Export Error - Codec Initialization Problem!" when I try to export a project using Adobe Media Encoder as a Macromeida Flash Video. Premiere Pro 2.0 goes through the rendering process but no file is created; just the Export Error message. What does this mean, and what do I need to do to export a project as a FLV file?

Sounds weird... You could try the standard fix for general unexplained behaviour in a document; export it to idml, open that, save as an Indesign file and try exporting again. If that doesn't work try a few different presets, like smallest file size. If that doesn't work try opening your image in Photoshop, resaving as a psd, placing that (delete your old one) and see if that helps. Obviously do this on a copy....

How do I get 128-bit encryption in Firefox 4.0 for a financial website?

I need 128-bit encryption capability on my web browser in order to use a specific financial website for bill paying, The site's encryption test shows that Firefox 4.0 (newly installed) does not provide that level of security. Help?

I think the www.opm.gov site may be looking for the '''U''' that was in the Firefox 3.6 and earlier useragents as it was one of the things removed in Firefox 4.0 and newer useagents. The site says it recognizes the browser but does not detect that your web browser supports 128-bit high encryption which contradicts.
The "U" stands for "USA" (for the version with 128-bit encryption) (since 1996).

Getting maximum quality export for InDesign images or graphics

I'm extracting the images from an InDesign file for an ePub. I'm doing the ePub creating independant of InDesign, however with images I'm trying to preserve some of the work done by people in the past in formatting the images.
What I'm finding is that the image is exported the same size as in the InDesign document, the problem with this is that if I zoom into the image it looks pixelated, whereas if I zoom into the original document it's not pixelated at all. Any suggestions on how to modify the following code to get a higher resolution export? While I appreciate that the image size is preserved, I'm wondering at what point in the export the image resolution is scaled down.

PNG export is done at screen resolution. In CS6, you can try setting the PNG export resolution (that property doesn't seem available in lower versions). If your version is lower than CS6, you could try up-scaling the original before exporting.
Exporting *an*y page item to PNG converts it to a bitmap, even if the original is pure vector; so you'll *never* get an 'infinitely scaleable' graphic. All you get is a huge bitmap -- and its size increases squarely with an increasing resolution. (Approximately; PNG compression helps a bit, but it won't magically make a larger image a smaller file size than the original.)

Lightroom 3 Export - Seems to have problems in image sizing

I have attempted multiple times to export a set of files as JPG to disk, limiting both the dimensions, and selecting "Limit File Size" - and it simply does not work. All of the files exceed the requested size.
Can somebody offer a clue as to what I need to do to make this straightforward process work as it should?

I saw a great improvement in 3.2 dealing with fixed limit for file size.
A great improvement also for light JPEG quality.
With 3.2 you get very good 100ko jpeg. Before it was not good.
BUT with LR 3.3 i go back with problems as before LR2.
--> with a limit at 100k I get many 40Ko picture with.. low quality.
To be more precise: the quality of light JPEG is as good as 3.2, but the final size is further from target than with 3.2
Agree, LR 3.3 RC is overcompressing images. That is, the final size is usually much smaller that the target size, loosing your quality. LR 3.2 did it too, but to a smaller degree.

2) Yesterday I made the subclips with the In-Out Points and Command-U, the benefit is that I've seen the clip before naming it. Now I'm using markers, it's benefit is that I can write comment and (the later) clip name at once, the drawback is that I have to view to the next shot's beginning before knowing what the shot contains.
But now I found out that I can reconnect my clips independently to the format I converted the master clip to. I reconnected the media to the original AVI file and it worked, too! The more I work with, the more I'm sold on it... - although it doesn't seem to be able to read and use the date information within the DV AVI.
1) Ok, I tried something similar within FCE. Just worked, but the file size still remains. Which codec settings should I use? Is the export to DV in MOV with a quality of 75% acceptable for both file size and quality? Or would be encoding as H.264 with best quality an option for archiving, knowing that I have to convert it back to DV if I (maybe) wan't to use it for editing later? Or anything else?

Problems getting Acronis True Image Home 2010 to find my image files.

I have recently purchased this A505-S6005 laptop and it has been nothing but a pain in the pretty much ever since I got it. Recently I have tried to roll back to a previous system image I created with Acronis True Image Home 2010 but am unsuccessful everytime I make the attempt.
Everytime I try to recover from the previous image which I have saved on a external drive I get an error message "Cannot find any hard disk drives" upon startup of the Acronis recovery manager. I get this problem no matter which way I go around it either from the boot cd that I created or directly from Windows and the Acronis software.
I simply cannot restore from my image file no matter how hard i try to get it to work.
Does anyone else have these issues with Acronis True Image 2010?

FP Get Image Invoke Method Problem

I am having trouble with the Invoke Method FP Get Image (I discovered the problem by trying to use the Report Generation Toolkit -> Append Front Panel Image to Report.vi). I am trying take an image of the entire Front Panel (not just visible) and write it to a word report. I have software that did this beautifully in LV 8.2.1, but I recently upgraded it to 8.5.1 and it no longer works correctly. I have attached an image to illustrate the problem. You can see that most of the front panel exists in the image, but I have an array of XY graphs that only exists as seen on the visible front panel. I have tried explicitly setting the option to image the entire front panel with the same results. I dont understand how the other parts of the front panel (the numbers for each graph exist as a table of strings and are overlayed ontop of the graph, there is also a summary graph on the bottom left as well as some text on the bottom right; all of this shows up even though it is not on the visible front panel). If anyone has seen this or something similar I would love to hear how you handled it.

Problems getting Lion server down from App store

I have a Mac mini server runing Snowleopard server just fine. Tried upgrading to Lion via the App store - OSX 10.7.4 came down fine - but not the server extension.
I end up in a loop where OSX10.7.4 won' install because the server extension is not avilable, and can't download Liion server extensions from the App store because 10.7.4 is not installed.
Any one know how to get the server extensions down before installing Lion so the install gets going?

Hey Glen -
I'm not at all sure why you're getting these errors, as I've followed this upgrade path just this week; but with a difference, I upgraded a client SL Mac (not server).
I'm going to suggest this - and you may even be able to do it at your local apple store with a Genius present.
Find another Lion machine and log into the app store on the account that bought Lion. Find Lion and click the download button. It'll tell you that you purchased before and you won't be charged again - let it roll. The download will proceed and when finished, will start the installer. At that point quit the installer.
Do the same with Lion Server; download again at it's App Store page.
Come prepared with a nice fat USB Stick. Copy both Installers onto the stick. They'll be in the Applications folder on this Mac.
Go to your SL Server, which MUST be at least 10.6.8.
Copy both files to the Applications folder. If there's an old Lion installer in there, overwrite it; you just got the latest build that way.
After copying to Applications, the Server installer will be greyed out and have a disable icon across it. That's normal; it can't run on anything less than 10.7. It just needs to sit there right now.
Run the Lion installer - client, that is.
It'll restart at some point - and then, because you have copied the server installer to Applications already, it will see that you want it to be a Server upgrade and will start quizzing you a bit about your setup and roll over your existing settings where it sees them.
When it's done you'll see your familiar login screen. And yes, it's server! Even though About This Mac says its 10.7.4- it really is Server. Start the Server App (not Server Admin app) and you'll see the new interface.
Server tools for Lion is a seperate download, so trash any SL versions at this point. You can DL the new ones anytime if you have a hankering for fine tweaking, but you're pretty good right out of the gate with just Server app.
Hope this helps. I've basically quoted a lesson from the Lynda.com Lion Server tutorial. Just a satisfied customer.
