Problems hooking TV to iMac

I have an iMac, 21.5" (late 2009 model)
I have a Mini Display Port to HDMI Adapter
I have a 4 metre HDMI Cable
Plugged the Mini Display Port into my iMac:
Code:

Plugged the HDMI into it:
Code:
http://i51.tinypic.com/2myzps3.jpg
Then plugged the other HDMI end into my TV:
Code:
http://i52.tinypic.com/2uhqngm.jpg
Switched the channel onto the HDMI 1 (which the Cables plugged into)
went on my iMac to detect displays, but nothing...
what am I doing wrong?
(first time doing this obviously)
All plugged in but when clicking on 'Detect Displays' it just does nothing, nothing happens... and on my LG TV it just says 'No Signal Detected' :-/
My TV picks up the HDMI because when all is plugged in, the HDMI 'tab' is highlighted (to click onto) but when the HDMI it taken out of the Adapter, the HDMI 'tab' goes grey... so the TV knows the HDMI is plugged into something to use, but the iMac isn't detecting the TV, and the TV just shows 'No Signal' on the Screen....
Im wondering could there be something wrong with the Adapter itself? but then again if something was wrong with it... the TV wouldnt know that it's actually plugged into something for the HDMI 'tab' to become highlighted.

I've got my new Neet wires today...
when plugging in the Neet Adapter and Cable, the TV didnt pick up a HDMI connection,
so i've plugged in the cheap Adapter I bought first with the Neet HDMI Cable and the TV picks up a connection, and the iMac flashes Blue a few times....
but still No Signal on the TV and the iMac doesnt 'detect' my TV!

  • Network problem with one particular iMac in a home network

I want to report a problem involving one particular iMac (2008 Al 24").
On my home network (Apple Airport Extreme and Express extensions, about five Macs and couple of iDevices), all other Macs can see and connect to each other as well as printing to the networked Brother printer without problem.
However, on one particular iMac, I can see all other Macs, can set Brother printer as default with green dot next to it in Print Preference Pane, but I can not connect to other macs, nor print to the printer. Meanwhile, the iMac can get on the internet without any problem. I checked Share Preference Pane and all settings are same as other macs.
The iMac used to work flawlessly until recently, and I first noticed the problem because I could not print, getting a message the printer can not be found (and the dots turn yellow for a while then went back to normal green). Then, I found neither the iMac, nor other macs on the network can connect to each other, even though I can see all of them in Finder.
I opened Apple Remote Network on my own mac, and I can see and connect all other shared macs, but this iMac's status showed not online, even though the IP adress is valid. As a results, no other macs can connect to the iMac, either. It seems to be a problem with the intranet only, not internet.
One more thing, about a month ago, the iMac popped out a warning about network name, saying the old name was in use (conflict) in the network, so I have to change it in Share Pane. Not sure if this is related to the intranet problem.
Reboot and repaired permission several times, no change. Hate to reinstall everything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Another update:
For unknown reason, my iMac was suddenly back onto the home "intranet". It can be accessed by my MacBook Air through Finder Connect, and can also be seen by Apple Remote Desktop.
However, printing is still a problem while other macs have no problem printing to the same printer. Whenever I send a print task, either Word document, or other programs such as GraphicConverter image, the iMac tried to connect to the default printer, but failed, and wanted to try again in 30 seconds 9and continued to fail). Meanwhile, the green dot next to the printer selection turned to yellow in Preference Pane. But as soon as I cancel the print job, the printer status went back to normal green.
The printer is a Brother color laser HL-4070CDW, connected through wireless (g only), with it own DHCP but specific IP address. I printed out a setting for the printer and all looks normal, and all other macs can print to it without problem. Other macs can also get access to the printer profile, and check inks copy counts, etc, but the iMac cannot.
Only thing changed since last post was a new update for Apple Airport firmware (to 7.5.2 I think). So my problem is still half solved: can connect to other macs on the same network, but still not be able to print.

  • I've just hooked my 20" iMac up to my Toshiba 37" HDTV using a mini dvi-HDMI adapter, and works well, EXCEPT for the green tinge (or hue) that is showing up on my TV. Any suggestions or ideas?

I've just hooked my 20" iMac display up to my Toshiba 37" HDTV using a mini dvi-HDMI adapter, and everything works well, EXCEPT for the green tinge (or hue) that is showing up. Everything else looks pretty good though..... The color that is on my iMac is still good, Its just green on the TV.
    Anyone have suggestions or ideas?

Try opening the Display System Preferences, then click on the Color options in the Display preferences window that appeared on the Toshiba display. Click on the Calibrate button and follow the instructions for creating a custom ColorSync profile that will hopefully solve the green tinge issue. The Apple Display Calibrator Assistant software that launches when you click on the calibrate button will walk you through the process.Assuming that the green tinge is minor and that you don't have a more serious cable or hardware issue, I am hopeful the results will be worth it.

  • How do I determine if the memory problems are with my imac and not the RAM?

I've heard of some vague problems with intel imacs and their memory slots. I'm about to replace (for the 3rd time) RAM, and think I need to test further to see if the problem is with my imac and not the RAM. Right now I put back in the original 2-512 sticks that came with the imac, and the rember test is only showing 594mb (odd amt!) testing OK. But, in "about my mac" it will show as 1gb.
Problems I've had with each set of RAM: occasional KP's, excessive spinning beachballs, sudden closing of apps (esp. if I have several apps running), won't fax usually (will hear a fax tone instead of a dial tone at the onset), disappearing documents section under my username.
I bought this imac refurbed thru the apple store last fall: 2.16 C2D 20" imac
Any ideas before I have to separate myself from my imac to send it in??

    Hi Toodles
The pin strips on the new modules maybe a little thicker than your original modules, and it's going to take more force to seat them properly. If the new Memory Specifications are correct I would try them again. Slide them in untill they stop, then push real hard untill you feel them seat into place.
I've never seen a report about an odd amount of ram shown. If reinstalling the ram modules does not solve your issue, and may be a indication that there is something wrong with one of the slots.

Problem connecting wirelessly from iMac to NETGEAR router, get invalid password message with WPA and WPA-2 encryption in place but if I remove them, so no security, can connect without a problem. Help!!

Thank you for your suggestion but I have already had a couple of phone sessions with NETGEAR support and they don't see any problems with the router settings etc. They referred me to Apple support, who helped me discover that it is possible to communicate with the router but only if I turn off the encryption/security software, which I don't want to do. The frustrating thing is that I can connect wirelessly from a laptop running Windows 7 and two Anroid smart phones, with WPA-2 in place, without a problem. Do you have any other ideas?

  • Hi I have a problem in my new iMac computer 21.5

    Dear There,
I want to inform you regarding my problem with my first iMac 21.5in, It is in the screen, actually the problem is the backlight after several minutes the screen come a black as like turn off and if I make reboot there is no thing change and still the black screen so it have to do let the iMace 2 days turn off to able see the screen work again but the problem come again..
I guess that problem come from :software or hardware !!!!???
So could you please tell me how can I fix this problem .
    Thanks

    Hello Saad,
I believe that the iMac issue is only a matter of SMC, once SMC and PRAM reset and connected via Thunderbolt to external Display the issue resolved.
Both video and backlit is restored on the iMac and on the external Display.
    Best Regards,

  • Intermittent problem putting my 24" iMac to sleep.

About every tenth time I attempt to put my iMac to sleep it will do the following: The screen dims a bit, the cursor disappears and the clock stops. The machine then becomes totally unresponsive and all I can do is do a forced shutdown.
I thought it might have been the 'safe sleep' function so I disabled it. No change. I cleaned out all the caches, repaired permissions, checked the drive directory, reset the machine (pulling the cord, waiting and then putting back in and starting it up). Then I reset everything there is to reset! No change.
Has anyone had this happen? If so, have you found a solution?
    Griff

Just to report a resolution to the problem putting my 24" iMac to sleep...
As I said, I put in two fresh 1G DIMMs (Shika brand). The two Kingston DIMMs were found to be defective. The sleep problem seems to be resolved. Also I found that a second problem (Applications suddenly and unexpectedly quitting) seems to have been resolved as well.
Something else I found as well is that the machine runs much faster. Right off the bat, when I ran the Apple Hardware Test, it was completed in 53 seconds. With my previous RAM it took over two minutes to complete.
Conclusion: Even if Utilities such as the Hardware Test and TechTool Pro 4 report no problem with RAM, some of the problems that people are experiencing that appear to be software based may be caused by bad RAM. It might be an idea to download and run Memtest or Rember over a period of a few hours to see if there is a problem. Or if you have access to a supply of RAM, you could swap in new ones and see if the problems go away.

  • Frustratingly, since I upgraded to Yosemite 10.10, I too am having the worst problems with WiFi dropping out. I've never had this problem before on my iMac 27-inch mid 2011 model. Turning WiFi off and then back on again sometimes works. Help please.

Frustratingly, since I upgraded to Yosemite 10.10, I too am having the worst problems with WiFi dropping out. I've never had this problem before on my iMac 27-inch mid 2011 model. Turning WiFi off and then back on again sometimes works. Help please. I've already tried a lot of your suggested fixes, but without success. Why hasn't Apple Fixed this?

Please test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take the applicable steps in this support article. The Wireless Diagnostics program generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 2
Disconnect all USB 3 devices. If you don't know which are USB 3, disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. If you find that Wi-Fi works better with Bluetooth disabled, you should use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band. Your router may not support it; in that case, you need a new router.
    Step 4
Open the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences and unlock the settings, if necessary. Select the Power Adapter  tab, if there is one. Uncheck the box marked
              Wake for Wi-Fi network access
    if it's checked.
    Step 5
Open the Network pane in System Preferences and make a note of your settings in the Wi-Fi service. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the various tabs in the preference pane. If the preference pane is locked, unlock it by clicking the padlock icon and entering your administrator password. Delete Wi-Fi from the service list on the left by selecting it and clicking the minus-sign button at the bottom. Then recreate the service by clicking the plus-sign button and following the prompts.
    Step 6
    In the Wi-Fi settings, select
              Advanced... ▹ TCP/IP ▹ Configure IPv6: Link-local
    Click OK and then Apply.
    Step 7
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 8
    Reset the PRAM.
    Step 9
Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    Step 10
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

  • Before I buy has there been any problems with new 27 iMacs?

Before I spend my hard earned cash does anyone know if there has been any problems with new 27 iMacs?

    Hello richard from Folsom:
Are you inside or outside?  (  I could not resist, I lived in Sactown).
Anyway, advice is frequently worth what you pay for it, and mine is free.
If you want it, buy it.  The posts above are right on the mark (except waiting is probably overly-cautious).  The best advice (from anamusic) is to buy the extended warranty - well worth the money.
