Problems importing double disc CD albums?

I'm trying to import a brand new copy of the Beatles 1967-1970 double disc greatest hits CD, but have run into a rather odd snag.
The first disc imported fine, but when I loaded the second disc into my computer it was read as the first disc. My Itunes account asks me if I want to import the first disc, even though the first disc has already been imported and it's actually the SECOND DISC that's in the CD rom drive, or whatever it's called.
Does that sound confusing?
Anyone else ever have this problem importing a double disc album?
Any explanations and/or possible solutions?
Thanks to all.

It sounds as though the look up in the Gracenote database does not have the correct info.
As a suggestion first import Disc 1 into itunes. Select All the tracks in that album right mouse click and select Get Info. Add Disc1 after the name of the Album and then click OK
Import Second Album and although it is still called Disc1 you will be able to see it in itunes when it has imported
Then you want to go back into Get Info for Disc One and Put in Disc 1 of 2 click OK
Select disc 2 albun choose Get Info put Disc 2 at the end of the album namr and 2 of 2 in the disc box on the right.
Click OK and you should have two albums with the name and Disc 1 or Disc 2 after their names.  If you prefer to have it as one album, redit and make the Album name the same

  • Best way to import multi-disc compilation album?

I have a rather extensive MP3 library (all my CD's are ripped to MP3) that I've maintained since about 1999. I just got my wife an iPod Nano last Christmas, and as such I never really used iTunes before a year ago. The only music in iTunes at the moment is MP3's and purchased music that is on her iPod.
I have all my music on my 1 TB D: drive under D:\Audio Files\Albums or \iTunes Music (purchased stuff) or \Various (music files not part of an album).
So I was trying to import a 2-disc various artist Christmas compilation album to iTunes 9. In Preferences, I have the box checked to keep music organized, and imported CD's are set to save under D:\Audio Files\Albums.
The issue is whether or not to use the Compilation option. If I set the album as a Compilation, iTunes automatically creates a Compilations subfolder in Albums, which I don't want. I want to have a folder with this compilation, and several others with a similar name. These are yearly releases of top songs of certain genre.
Apparently, to get iTunes to save these CD's where I want (I want the songs from both discs to go into the same folder), I have to uncheck Compilation, and also I have to change the Album Artist to <Compilations' series name> just to get it to put it in that folder.
Do I have any other options? It seemed like a major pain to get these 2 discs imported so that all the songs would show up under single album cover.
I suppose this may really be fallout from my manual folder organization in Windows Explorer. I guess if it were ALL in iTunes, I wouldn't need all those subfolders, as it would be organized by artist, album, etc. via each file's info. But then that wouldn't work very well with my iRiver MP3 player.
    Message was edited by: PatrickGSR94

yeah but I use the same folder organization in both Windows and on the iRiver, on which I have the Rockbox OS.
One of these days I hope both of us will get iPhones, at which point I'll probably ditch the iRiver and just use the phone for all my media duties.
Anyway, back to the compilation album issue. All the other CD's I've imported (single disc and/or single artist) have imported beautifully, and perfectly integrated with the files and folders I already had (a CD of the same artist I already had other MP3 albums for created a new folder for the CD under the same artist folder - perfect).
It's just the one album with both multiple discs and multiple artists that seem to be giving me problems. It either wants to put it in D:\Audio Files\Albums\Compilations, which I don't want, or in \Albums\Various Artists, which I don't want, either.

  • Problems importing double sided CDs

does anybody have any problems when it comes to importing CDs that are double sided? by double sided I mean the one side is CD and the other side is DVD. It takes about 3 hours to import a CD like this and often the songs do not even work, and the time for the track is shown as "738:46:28"
does anybody have any advice. I am using a laptop computer with Windows XP if that has anything to do with it.

You have whats called a "Dual Disc". these disc do not always adhear to CD format standards therefore you can end up with issues like this. Apple had an artical about this, but Im having trouble digging it up rightnow.
Might try going to the PC makers site and updating your firmware for your CD ROM and see if this fixes the issue. Also try looking into your PC makers support articals about dual disc

  • Import Multi-Disc CD as One Album

I'm brand new here and just tried importing my 2-disc CD of Pink Floyd's "The Wall" into iTunes to synch with my iPod (30 GB) using the latest iTune 7.0.2 software. How do I make the 2-disc album show up as only one album in iTunes and on my iPod instead of two separate entries (The Wall[Disc 1] and The Wall [Disc 2])? I'm going to have to figure this one out since I have a lot of multi-disc sets to scan.
    Thanks,
    garwar

I think Damon has misunderstood your post. You want 2 discs to show as one, correct?
Importing multi disc sets into iTunes as one disc means that you'll need to edit the album info to show it as one disc. I usually import the separate CDs first, then edit them into one album afterwards.
First, highlight all the songs from these CDs in iTunes, right click on them and select "get info" This brings up the "multiple item info window". Now go to the "album name" field and retype the album name to one that suits and this rids the "disc 1, disc 2" info that you do not need.
Then you'll need to renumber all the tracks. Start with the first disc and in the "track number field" start with "1 of *, (* being the total number of tracks on all discs). Do this on all the discs in the set. When you've done the first disc, carry on sequentially with the numbers.
Now, in the "disc number" field you 'll need to enter "1 of 1" to ensure that iTunes reads all discs as just one.
I would also make sure that other info like "artist", "genre" and "year" are the same.
When you're done, click "ok" and all the discs should be read as one. If they aren't, then go back and check everything that you've altered.

  • Continual problem importing CDs

For years now I have had problems importing CDs, and I am at my wit's end. Many times when I import a CD, I finish, eject the CD, and find that my songs are no where to be found on itunes. Often time they will hang out in the "recently added" playlist, but even then, if I had gone through the trouble of "getting info" and changing the song descriptions and what not, those changes would surely not be shown there. Furthermore, I can't seem to get itunes to recognize the tunes even when they are in this recently added area.
    Please help.

I have lost songs in the past and this is what I did to fix it. iTunes uses an on-line service called Gracenote to get the details like song titles, album title, artists, genre and so on. One of those bits of info is whether or not the CD in question is a compilation. This data was entered by people like you and me. If Gracenote doesn't have it in its database, it will prompt you to enter the info and the next person will have it ready to go.
You can search under artist (CTL+B) to look for "Compilations" or you can also look under "Various Artists"
iTunes files albums by ALBUM ARTIST when possible. Gracenote doesn't give that info so if there is a guest artist on one song, that song shows up as a separate album. I fix this by highlighting every song in that album and right-click to GET INFO (CTL+I) and fill in the blank for ALBUM ARTIST.
A more basic check is to look in EDIT > PREFERENCES > ADVANCED to see where iTunes puts things by default. I have a pretty big library, so I installed a separate drive and made that my default. Right below the drive location is a couple of important check boxes.
"Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized" means that iTunes will create folders by ALBUM ARTIST (or ARTIST if you didn't fill in the blanks) and each album as a sub-folder.
"Copy Files To iTunes Media Folder when adding to Library" If you have music files in your computer (thumb drive, desktop, e-mail, MP3 disc, etc) and you add them to your iTunes Library, they stay right there if this box is not checked. iTunes knows where to find them (until you pull the thumb drive out) If you check this box, iTunes puts a copy in the Library: MUSIC > ALBUM ARTIST > ALBUM >
There is another check box that helps find lost songs FILE > LIBRARY > ORGANIZE LIBRARY > CONSOLIDATE FILES

  • Importing To An Existing Album

I can't seem to find a way to do it.
I have new images that I want to import to an already existing album. The new images are in my external hard drive and when I try to import it, it isn't allowing me to import to the particular album that I want. Instead, it is importing to a folder (and creating an untitled project"). I can't find a way to redirect the arrow to point to the existing album that I want to import the images to. WHat am I missing? Help, please.

The cause of your problem is that albums cannot contain images.
Images are held only in projects; albums just contain 'pointers' to images in one or many projects.
So yes, you will need to import your images into a new or existing project and then add those images to the album you want.

    Steve

  • Crashes while importing TIFFs.  Also, how to import directly into an album?

Just got Aperture last night in the mail. Upgraded to 1.1.1.
I have about 250 CDs with TIFF images that I've created over the years. The TIFF files were created by a Nikon film scanner. Some of those images were later re-touched and re-saved using Photoshop.
In any event, I started importing all those CDs into Aperture to consolidate all my photographs in one place. On the first CD, Aperture crashed unexpectedly for no reason. The Aperture database would also get corrupted and I would have to delete it, and start from scratch.
Here's what I discovered. If I wait for Aperture to generate a thumbnail of all the images in the CD before I click on the "Import All" button, there are four images in the CD for which Aperture does not generate a thumbnail. Furthermore, if I tried to import the same CD into iPhoto, all files but those four would get imported. At least iPhoto doesn't crash, and after the import is finished it would tell me that four photographs could not be imported because the format was not recognized. The interesting thing is that Photoshop can open every single file on the CD (again, all of them are TIFF images)
So my (painful) workaround is to import all my CDs into iPhoto first, and then import into Aperture from iPhoto, which works very well. That way the Aperture repository doesn't get corrupted.
So, question 1: does anybody know if there's a special setting in Aperture that would stop it from crashing and gracefuly skip over any photographs that it can't recognize?
Question 2: I want to import every single CD into its own album so I later know what CD I can find the image on. Aperture seems to import always onto the project, not the album. Is there a way around this?
When I import into iPhoto, I create an empty album and then drag the files from the CD onto that album. If I then import the iPhoto album into Aperture, Aperture automatically creates an album, which is nice. I'd love to do the same but with iPhoto out of the picture (excuse the pun). That would speed up the import process tremendously.
    Thanks for your help,
    Julian

    Are there two questions here?
    1. You can indeed create an album under a Project in advance and Import direct to that. One Album per CD? Works fine. Just point the Import Arrow at the Album. NOTE: the Masters are actually held in the Project (this is true across Aperture) and Pointers are held in the Album .... but the effect is of Albums with photos > Project containing all the photos.
    2. These TIF files are not corrupt, if Photoshop or iPhoto opens them. This has got to be an Aperture bug and I have the same issues with TIF's. Created a thread about it, so I hope the Aperture development team did read it (please, please, please). You could convert in Photoshop to .PSD vs. resaving (unless this is what you did) as I haven't noted this problem with .PSD files

  • Problems importing pix into my 2.5 quad 8 gigs ram, Canon Rebel xt

I have the newest firmware available...I have imported before...only had problems with raw...now it seems that I am haveing problems importing anything. Aperture was better when it first came out but it seems that every update degrades my ability to import...I am now in the position of having to use my horrible PC to read my cameras card (that my mac isn't able to read...amizingly) and then trasfer the files to my mac via my network!
    Imagion my pain!!!!
    John II

Forget trying to modify the plist file, it is done automatically with OS upgrades. What is the extension name you get from the camera, for raw is should be .cr2. If you double-click the filename in finder it sould be vieweable in Preview. If not then Aperture won't view it either because raw's and camera updates are donw at the OS level. Your on 10.4.6 so i know your camera is supported.
If you can't view raw or jpg files in Preview, then the issue is further-upstream, perhaps at camera level, although if they appear on a pc then its perhaps something wrong in your OS.
Can you see the images in Preview ?

  • How do you import pictures to an album in Photos?

    Hi,
I've just started using the new photos application after migrating from iPhoto and now I can't seem to import pictures to an album? How do you do this?
It seems photos has imported everything from an SD Card and my iPad and lumped it all into one "Moment".
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Great thanks for your suggestions! I'll have a play around and see if I can make it work
I have the same problem. It's lumped around 1,000 pictures into one moment which spans 3 countries and 2 weeks of travel. It's also merged photos I had on my iPad which are the same but a different resolution, so now I have duplicates but no easy way to determine which is the lessor quality.
I'm pretty disappointed with the removal of functions with the new app May need to go looking for a replacement I think, unless Apple can demonstrate an interest in improving the experience.

  • Problems importing songs

    Hello;
I am having problems importing songs into Itunes. I have itunes version 11.0.1.12, but this the first time I have this problem, At first it woould only import certain songs (not all of them), later on I cannot import any songs into itunes, I am trying to add mp3's, and there should not be an issue, however I tried to burnd a CD, and it does not import then that way neither.
    waiting your response
    JC

    I'm having the same problem, except I think I've isolated it a bit more . . .
My MP3s are stored on a Windows server and my mac mini loads the songs across my network. I noticed there was an album missing from my library. I found the MP3s (a Van Halen CD that I ripped), went to reimport them . . . and nothing. I ended up doing a complete wipe (preferences, library files, everything) of iTunes, reinstalled iTunes 7.7, and copied the MP3s over to my local mini hard drive. They still refused to import.
I took the MP3s and checked out the ID3 tags in Tag&Rename on my Windows server. Everything appeared to be fine. However, I used Tag&Rename to completely delete ALL ID3 (v1 and v2) information in the MP3s. Once I did that, they imported into iTunes just fine.
Now, here's the kicker: Using iTunes, I setup the information again, and then rewrote the ID3 tags using iTunes (v2.3). After a few listen-tos and restarts (and syncing to my iPod) the songs are now refusing to import again.
I've had these MP3s in my iTunes library for years now. I've never had a problem playing them at all. As far as the MP3s being corrupted, I can play the MP3s just fine using QuickTime or using Finder's Preview view. It's only iTunes that refuses to acknowledge them.
Any thoughts? Anything else I can try?

  • Problems importing music

Itunes doesnt show music/artists/playlists separately in my library.when i import music it dumps everything in 1 big file (under library).but when i go to my documents/my music/Itunes,it shows all the artists separately (nicely organized in folders).
Does anyone know whats the problem?!

One other bit about file locations/structure: albums
noted as "compilations" are stored under Compilations
instead of the artist name. Compilations covers
Greatest hits collections and albums with multiple
artists (e.g., Soundtracks). So your Phil Collins
songs may end up under "Phil
    Collins\album-name" or "Compilations\Hits"
(for tracks from his "Hits" album).
MacMuse, I wanted to send you a personal message about this, but I can't seem to figure out how on this forum. But nevermind that...
I'm having a problem with my iTunes putting albums in the 'Compilations' folder when they are not compilations and do not have more than one artist. The albums that it has done it to so far are:
My Chemical Romance - Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge
Fort Minor - The Rising Tied
    Ace Frehley - Ace Frehley
I tried to move them into folders organized by the artists names, and then updated iTunes with the new location, but it then moved them back to the original location. How can I make it so iTunes organizes them correctly?
Another question: I have that Fort Minor album, and it has some guests on it. But it recognizes "Fort Minor" and "Fort Minor; Styles of Beyond," "Fort Minor feat. Styles of Beyond" and every other combination I can think of as separate artists. If I use a ";" in Windows Media Player it recognizes that that means a different artists. How can I show the supporting artists without having to put "feat. Styles of Beyond" in the song title?

I am having problems importing to my Ipod nano via windows 8.  I usually do this from a windows 7 computer and have had no problems; hoever in windows 8 I can only see items purchased in the Itunes store.  I do not have access to my entire library, which includes song uploaded from CDs and some videos.  As a result, I'm having problems uploading any new items from CDs or DVDs.  The computer with windows 8 is an authorized computer, so I don't understand why I'm having the problem.

  • Problem importing from JVC MG 155 (videcam with hard disk drive)

I had a problem importing video from my videocam Jvc MG 155.
I tried when there was only few record in the videocam and everything gone right.
Otried when there were 520 movies and over 4 hour of video (I went to holiday and made also underwater movies) and the program crach before importing the movies.
I can import the moviesw only via firewire but in this way i import in DV mode (so I have near 60 gigabytes occupied by that movies insted of the original size in the hdd of the camera of 18 giga).
    Someone have a solution?
If I import by firewire I reach the same quality (the camera record directly in mpeg 2 and via firewire I import in dv way)?
    Any idea?
Jvc don't support mac because they don't give you software compatible (the cd inside is win only).

    You are right.
But the first time I imported with imovie 08 (the time when there was only few movies on the camera and everything gone right and the program don't crash) i notice that the program imported the movies in compress format (mpeg2) and the size was the same of the videocamera (more or less ..but I'm sure it's not in DV format).
Maybe the prgram crash because of the hight number of the miniature it must generate to let me choose witch I want import.
Certantly Apple mus resolve this bug because the model of this videocamera is one of the fews they assure like compatible directly with imovie 08.

  • Problems importing connections from a SAN directory

Is anybody having a problem importing connections from a directory that's on a SAN?
My network is setup so that the Application Data directory is out on a SAN and when SQL Developer opens up the file dialog, current directory is listed as C:\ and entry in the file name field is file://<server>/<path to my stuff>/Application Data/SQL Developer/. This looks fine but when I click on the "Open" button to get the directory listing, an error dialog pops up with the following message:
The directory C:\file:\<server>\<path to my stuff>\Application Data\SQL Developer is not accessible. Please select a different directory.
When I change the current directory to the drive that maps the SAN location, I get the same message only with C: replaced with another drive letter.
If I had to guess, the dialog is not processing the file:// protocol indicator properly before it attempts to get the directory listing. Does anyone have a work around?

Other users also had problems with network shares, so you're right that might very well be the cause of your problems.
As workaround, try mapping the settings folder to a local drive. Add this to \sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.conf:
    AddVMOption -Dide.user.dir=C:\sqldeveloperHope that helps,
    K.
