Problems importing keywords with image

I have exported keywords from another program (IMatch) to both embedded iptc and xmp files. The problem is that I can't get LR to assign the keywords to the pictures when importing, or when trying the "import meta from xmp file" option. I have tried with both jpeg- and cr2-files (cr2 is raw from EOS 20D). The strange thing is that all keywords assigned to the pictures shows up to the left in the keywords panel, so LR somehow reads the keywords from the files and knows about the existence of these keywords, but, as I said, does not assign the keywords to the keywords field of the respective images. The keywords show up perfectly fine in Adobe Bridge.

Can't say, as I don't have Aperture installed- actually did, but trial ran out- to test definitively.
<br />
<br />Either someone with same experience will come along and say, or you could try a small controlled experiment to see if perhaps you didn't select All photos on importing the xmp file, etc.

  • Problem Importing Keywords with jpg photos into Library

I am a new and enthusiastic LR user working to migrate from iMatch, where I have kept my ~80,000 photos organized for the last several years. However, my last roadblock to being able to do that is the import of keyword information (or as iMatch calls them, Categories). Obviously it's critical that these transfer across seemlessly as they represent untold number of hours in sorting and managing the database.
The situation: Via an iMatch script I can successfully write the associated categories, including hierarchy, into an IPTC field of my choosing that is then included with the jpg file itself. I have done this into the "Keywords" field, with various combinations of special characters and/or spaces to denote hierarchy relationships or separate keywords.
Upon LR import: LR recognizes the presence of the keywords and pulls them into the metadata, but refuses to see them as anything except part of one continuous hierarchy.
Example: A picture in iMatch has two Categories associated with it, both of which are organized under a parent-->child hierarchy:
    Trips --> Switzerland2006 and Special --> Family --> Daughter
When written via script into the IPTC Keyword field of the jpg file, it looks like this: Trips.Switzerland2006; Special.Family.Daughter
(note -- I can make the semicolon separating the keywords anything, such as a comma, space, etc. I have tried all.)
When imported into LR, it ends up looking like this under the left panel Keyword Tags area: Trips --> Switzerland2006; Special --> Family --> Daughter
In the righthand panel under "Keyword Tags", I only see "Daughter" as this is at the bottom of the single stack hierarchy that was interpreted.
In other words: I have found no possible way for LR to recognize that there is in fact MORE THAN ONE keyword coming in, rather than always a single hierarchy stack or very long words with spaces, semicolons, whatever included in between.
I have tried every setting under Preferences-->File Handling, but those only give me options about when to tell LR to recognize a hierarchy step, not about what character to see as a separation between keywords themselves.
Final note: If I first open one of my picture files in Adobe Bridge and look at the IPTC field Keyword there, it looks perfect. And if I go into that field and mess around a bit -- add a space, take away a space -- with in the end no change, then resave the file, THEN bring into LR, it works fine! I believe what is happening in this case is that Bridge is correctly interpreting the Keyword data from the file, but then is writing it into an XMP area that I can't see. LR must then read the XMP area in preference over the IPTC are upon import.... But -- if Bridge can read the original IPTC line correctly, why not Lightroom?!
Bottom line question: What format or special character or special trick must be used for multiple keywords in the IPTC Keyword field so that Lightroom will correctly recognize the multiple keywords upon import?
    Thank you!
    JMC

Do those keyword hierarchies show up properly in Vista Photo Gallery? I have the LR Edit/Preferences/File Handling configured to treat "/" (which is what Vista Photo Gallery uses) as a keyword separator and LR recognizes the hierarchical keywords.
As I understand it, Vista reads both XMP and IIM/IPTC Headers, but will write only to XMP. I forced Photo Gallery to convert my keywords to XMP by adding a global keyword and then deleting it later. Then I used drag and drop to recreate the hierarchies. It works for me.

Problems importing AVI with DV codec to Premiere Pro  (720x564 px, 32 kHz stereo, 24.4 bitrate)
I can't import that video. What can I do?

    Svanur,
I agree with Harm. The specs. do not match up correctly. Where did those AVI files come from?
I assume that you are working in PAL-land (and not NTSC-land). Is that correct?
What platform are you working on, Mac, or PC?
When you attempt to Import those AVI files, what is the exact error message that you are getting?

  • Exporting keywords with image files

Using LR1.2 under Windows XP I now do most of my initial processing of scans and digital imports in LR before exporting the selected images for final batch processing and refined tuning in PS CS2. However, having completed copious key wording in LR, my exported files when viewed in Bridge do not contain my keywords. I have searched and found that it is possible to export metadata but that does not naturally link them with the appropriate pictures. Short of cutting and pasting chunks of keywords from LR, how can I arrange Bridge to incorporate keywords which were integral with the images exported from LR?
Thanks in advance to wiser heads than mine.
    DA

    >I do not have a 'cache' purge' option
I was talking about Bridge. Bridge's cache might be bad. The save metadata part in LR 1.3 is in the exact same location as in 1.2. I have never seen keywords not get written starting from LR 1.0. I know because I put lots of my images in online galleries and they always pick up my keywords.
    >As I suffered catalogue problems with my last LR upgrade
Perhaps this is the problem. You should try with a new fresh catalog, import a few images, tag em and export them and see if you get metadata written that way. Perhaps your main catalog is still corrupt.

  • Problem importing some jpeg images

    **** all
For some reason I cant import selected jpeg images, about 75% of them are grayed out for some reason, the images are jpegs I have collected on line and are the only images I seem to have a problem with.
    Any idea way ?
    Thanks

yes I have the actual image, I found the problem .
they where all grayed out cause of the image size, I downloaded desktop images.
I'm glad I worked it out cause I'm using these images as backgrounds and, have 487 of them. I ran them through easybatchphoto and resized the width on all of them to 800. now they all work fine.

  • Problem: importing a transparent image from Photoshop to Premiere.

    Dear Adobe community,
I am trying to import a transparent image from Photoshop to Premiere Pro CC. Whatever file format I choose to export from Photoshop, Premiere Pro CC will not import the file correctly. When I import is, two things occur: 1) the image gets imported, but the white background is still there or 2) the image gets an error "The importer reported a generic error".
Does anyone have an idea how I can get an image with a white background transparent into Premiere Pro CC.
    Specs:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, eind 2013)
    2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
    16GB RAM
    1536MB Intel Iris videocard
    Thanks!
    Christiaan

You need to make sure the image has an alpha channel.
Images like jpeg dont have an alpha channel.
Psd or png do and the image has to be RGB.
Make sure the background in PS is also transparant.

  • Imported keyword tags, image tags, main tags in PSE 12

I have converted an older catalog to PSE 12 for Mac.  I have tags in Imported Keywords, and that also show up in the Image Tags, but not all show up in the main tags lists (People, Places, Events).  How do I get these all in the main tag groups?

    Saurabh288--
Yes, now I see the tags under "Image Tags," and if I right click the tag in that spot, I have the option  to remove it.  Thank you.
As to the Remove Keyword Tag option, "should be" appears to be the operative phrase here. It should be, but in many cases isn't. The option appears for some photos but is grayed out for others, even when the "others" have tags showing under "Image Tags."  But I can live without this option working, since  the "Image Tags" list gives me a woraround.  Thanks again.

  • Problems importing Photoshop edited images...

Hi to all of you smart people. Let me know if there is already a thread on this topic...
So here's my question. I am having problems importing images I converted to grayscale in photoshop into iPhoto. They show in iPhoto as if they are negatives. Thanks!

Hi Rebecca, Yes that is a known problem and there are numerous threads on the subject. Do a search for "greyscale" or "grayscale" (how do you spell grey anyways?)

  • Problem accessing applet with images

I created a JApplet with images and icons in it. (The images are on my C drive). When I add the applet to an html page, and run it, the applet isn't loaded, but I get an IO error saying that I don't have security permission to access the images. Is there someway to switch of this security, or to put the images in a jar file and access the images from the jar file?? Thank you for your help!!

By default applets can't read files off the hard drive.
The easiest way to handle this is to put the images and other resources (such as properties files) in the same jar file as the classes, and then use Class.getResource or Class.getResourceAsStream to load them.

  • Problem importing keywords from bridge

I have a .mrw image that I use Bridge CS3 to add four keywords a,b,c,d. When I view them in Bridge it shows the four keywords checked. I looked at the XMP file with wordpad and see them there as well. When I import the xmp file under Lightroom only keywords a,b & c are shown. I looked at the .xmp file in the imported file location for light room and the d keyword is missing from it as well. I tried this using a .nef image from my nikon and it doesn't seem to have the problem
Has anyone seen this problem before? Any work around?

I've done some more investigation on the problem I've described above. In the xmp for the image I have a keyword written by bridge of "Sandy" with the upper case "S". In the lighroom keyword list I already had "sandy" with the "s" being lower case. The import of the "Sandy" keyword in the xmp file of my image failed. If I removed "sandy" or renamed it "Sandy" in the Lightroom list then "Sandy" imported fine. If I tried adding "Sandy" in addition to "sandy" in the lightroom list I got an error saying that the keyword existed and the add failed. From that test it appears that within Lightroom "Sandy" and "sandy" are the same keyword, but coming in on an import they aren't.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is it normal?

Isn't there a way for you to do this via a Package/Procedure versus having multiple queries?
    Per the BI Publisher guide,
Following are recommended guidelines for building data models:
Reduce the number of data sets or queries in your data model as much as possible. In general, the fewer data sets and queries you have, the faster your data model will run. While multiquery data models are often easier to understand, single-query data models tend to execute more quickly. It is important to understand that in parent-child queries, for every parent, the child query is executed.
You should only use multiquery data models in the following scenarios:
To perform functions that the query type, such as a SQL query, does not support directly.
To support complex views (for example, distributed queries or GROUP BY queries).
To simulate a view when you do not have or want to use a view.

  • Problem importing PSD (with multiple groups and layers) into After Effects. Help!

I created a "comic strip" in photoshop (multiple rectangle shape layers, then various shapes within each box for each frame of the comic strip) that I want to import into AE. When I import it as a composition (to keep my layers), however, what appears is an simply a black image with white lines where the lines of the comic strip used to be. I checked the color modes, but they are both in RGB so I don't think that's the problem. Also, when I double click the cartoon strip composition, I can choose certain groups from the mini flow-chart at the top left and view those individual frames. However, I can't view the entire comic strip as a whole, which is necessary for my animation. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, as I'm on a tight time constraint. Thanks!

When I asked what version down to the last decimal, I meant it. After Effects version should start with 11, but we need the numbers after that too.
And I understand that you want to pan between them, so just put all the different PSD's you import into the same comp and pan between them.

  • Problem importing a scanned image

I am a new user to Elements 11 (previously having used Paint Shop Pro).  In many of the previous Elements and their tutorials says there is a Get Photos/Image not on Elements??  So I go File -> Import -> WIA Support.  This leads me to my HP printer/scanner (that is plugged in and works fine in Paintshop Pro OCR etc...).  Then I scan the photograph or image on the Flatbed.  It appears on Elements 11 ok.  BUT I cannot work on it??  Things like Layers just won't work.  You cannot rename the layer of this background.  Just about all the Menu options are greyed out??  In some other applications you have to let the application know that you have finished with the scanner.  I can't find anything like this.  I saved the image say as PNG/JPEG whatever and then opened the saved image still can't work on it?? I scanned to a file and then tried to work on that scanned and saved image.  Still can't manipulate the image.  It appears locked down or out??  Can anyone help me as a new user to Photoshop Elements (never used it before).  Have gone straight to Elements 11.  Many thanks

    Hi
This didn’t work but the image was a printed page IE black and white.  If I go Image -> Greyscale then everything swings back into life.  If I scanned a colour image via the Scanner I might need to use the 8/16 bit image.  My problem at the moment is finding everything and how they work on Elements 11.  I have looked at the video tutorials but they are not all on Elements 11 many are older versions.  Is there a good User Guide to purchase written by any indepentant authors publishers?
But thanks for your prompt and helpful reply.
    Regards

  • Problem importing photos with OS 10.4.6

I have two PowerMacs G5, one first gen G5 1.8 GHz and a Dual 1.8 GHz. I can easily download from iPhotos or directly on my HP 735 Photosmart pictures that I take when using my Dual G5. But on the other computer the photos get corrupted and are therefore unusable. On a PC I had no problem too when downloading the photos.
As the driver for the camera are buit-in, I cannot find newer drivers and have no clue as to why it doesn't work on one G5 and not the other.
    Thank you for any assistance!

    Hi, Maryse.
    1. Just to be sure I understand your question correctly:• You have an HP PhotoSmart 735 camera.
    • You download photos from the camera to your computers using either iPhoto or via drag-and-drop from the camera to another folder on your Mac.
    • If you connect the camera to your Power Mac (PM) G5 2x1.8 GHz Mac, downloaded photos are AOK.
    • If you connect the camera to your PM G5 1x1.8 GHz Mac, downloaded photos are corrupted. Is this correct?
    2. Are both computers running Mac OS X 10.4.6?
    3. Are both computers running the same version of iPhoto?
    4. Do you connect the camera to either of your computers using the same method, same cable, etc? Or are you connecting the camera directly on one computer, but using a media-card reader on the other? Is the same cable used regardless of how you connect the camera to the computer?
    5. On the affected computer, I suggest you begin troubleshooting as follows:5.1. As a general check, run the procedure specified in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the order specified.
5.2. If you are connecting the camera to a USB hub on the affected computer, connect it to one of the USB ports on your computer. If you are connecting the camera to one of the USB ports on your computer, try connecting it to a different USB port on the computer.
5.3. If you using different cables when connecting the camera to the affected computer, try using the same cable you use when you connect the camera to the unaffected computer.
5.4. If you are using a media-card reader on the affected computer, instead connect the camera to directly to a USB port on the computer.
5.5. Try the advice in my recent post here concerning removing Image Capture preferences and checking Console logs.
5.4. If the affected computer is running earlier versions of Mac OS X or iPhoto than those installed on the unaffected computer (PM G5 2x1.8), bring the affected computer up to the same versions of Mac OS X and iPhoto as those running on the unaffected computer.Good luck!

  • Problems importing photos with a color label.

    Hello:
I'm trying to import photos and assign a color label at the same time. My idea is to know what pics are just imported and put they into "status 0" of my workflow, that is, the pic is just imported and need to be accepted/rejected, then be classified, then made basic corrections, etc, etc. I'm going to change color labels to go from red to green status... a tipical workflow.
OK, this is what I did:
    Import pics:
    * I select the directory and create/assign a new metadata preset.
    * In this metadata preset I set author/creator and some other IPTC fields.
    * Also I put the word "red" in Label field.
    * Do the import...
    What I can see then:
The photos are imported and the red label is visible. You can see the red label in the grid view (at every photo's bottom) and also, at the bottom toolbar, you can see that the red label is checked. If you click at the small label at the photo's bottom you can see the small menu with the red label checked.
OK, it seems that the color label is imported but...
In the filmstring, if you filter to see only the red labeled pics... nothing is selected !! You have to unassign and assign again the red label and this time you can filter by color label.
What is happening ? Does Lightroom read the color label from two different fields from the metadata ? Is something not synched during the import process ?
    Regards,
    Javier.

Sorry if I couldn't explain correctly. English is not my main language...
I know you can assign names to the existing colors label and create different sets. I just create my own set.
What I'm refering to is to the Label field that is part of the basic IPTC data into a metadata preset. I'm not sure if it's the same field that is used to assign color labels.
What I did was to create a metadata preset, assign the word "red" as the value of the IPTC Label field and then apply this preset into an import. All the pics were imported with the red label set, so yes, it is possible to do the import and set the color label. The problem is that you can't use the filters that are into the filmstring view. So there is some mismatch here: the red color is shown at the bottom of the pics imported, but the filmstring filters can't "see" that the pics have this color label assigned.
