Problems importing media

Is anyone experiencing problems importing media? I'm trying to import to a project but FCP is making it difficult to locate my files, my stuff isn't organized, and EVERYTHING is being loaded from my Hard drive, my external hard drive, EVERYTHING, so it's difficult to locate which file i'm exactly looking for.

I believe today's OS update (for the computer, not the phone) has some Apeture fixes in it - have you downloaded that update and tried again?

  • Problems importing Media into iMovies '11

I am unable to import Media using the Media Buttons on the right of the screen which are permanently greyed out.  I have researched various forums and seen advice to delete a file from the Library>Preference folder in your Home Profile in Finder but none of these folders exist in my Home Profile and when I search the whole machine for the file required to be deleted, it does not appear to exist anywhere at all.  My Library>Preference Files appear to be directly under the "MacIntosh HD" Drive in Finder but as I say, hte one that needs deleting is not there.
Anyone any idea how I resolve this or re-install iMovies.  Content is not a huge issue as I don't have much on there for now.
    Exasperated!!

Hi - I found this on a Google Search for the question as no-one seems to be answering this.
According to Apple official website, we know that iMovie can import DV, MPEG-4, MPEG-2, MOV, and M4V. And MP4 files commonly defines the storage of MPEG-4 audio and scenes using the ISO Base Media File Format, this kind of MP4 can be imported into iMovie without question. But the MP4 files may also contain any number audio and video codec, and sometimes even subtitle streams included. And that kind of MP4 cannot import into iMovie on Mac.
As we know the reason why we sometimes can't import MP4 to iMovie on Mac, we should got an idea to solve that question. Actually it is very simple, we just need to convert MP4 to iMovie compatible formats. And here I advise you to use our professional Mac MP4 to iMovie Converter. It is specially designed for Mac users to deal video questions. The converting speed and high output quality will fulfill your need. Using our Mac MP4 to iMovie Converter you can set the resolution, frame rate, bit rate to possible high, and you can also trim, crop, rotate, apply your video effect to the video.

  • Severe problems importing media from iPhone 4 to Aperture 3

I'm using iOS 4.0.2 with an iPhone 4.
First time I have tried to import into Aperture 3 and it's only importing some images and I get the same message of errors and a statement that the following images are of an unsupported file format for Aperture 3, they are of course jpegs??.
I just tried using Image Capture to a folder on my Desktop and it is taking approx. 10 mins per image to download and then when I cancel the import it fails to save any images anyway.
Same goes for iPhoto. Any ideas anyone? Thanks.

  • Since 10.0.9 FCPX crashes at "Import Media"

    Hi,
it never happend before, the problem has shown up after i updated fcpx.
I tried to import my footage, it´s from a panasonic hmc 151. 1080/50i, AVCHD.
I never had a problem before. It was always the some work around.
Open FCPX, insert SD-Card into the build in sd card reader, "import media", choose the filmes, set in and out point, import. finish.
After the update it starts that the footage will not be shown in the "import media" window. Ok, no problem I copied everything to my hard drive. Opened the "import media" window again. Nice, footage shows up. Now the problem, i can only see: clip1, clip 2 etc.
With the click on a file to preview or something final cut crashes within seconds.
Every time I try, what happend? Also with the Canon 550d/T2i Rebel footage.
    No preview, straight crash.
I also saved the fail protocol, if someone needs it to help.
thank you for your help, philipp

Try trashing preferences; I regularly use Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion as my first remedy when FCP starts acting up.
What happens if you connect via USB cable? Are both Archive and Import available and do either work?

  • Can't import Media into FCP X

In the last week or two when I try to import media into FCP X I end up with a very dark and locked import screen.  The only way I can recover is to force quit FCP X.  It doesn't always happen but it is getting more and more frequent.
I have not updated to Marverik and I'm running the latest version of FCP X on the same iMac I have used since installation.
Any suggestions beacuse it really is starting to beome very, very frustrating.
    Thanks

They system is hanging up, waiting on some command to finish, which is not able to.  So let's look at ways to fix this.  Becasue you never want to do an upgrade to fix problems.  Only upgrade a proerly working system.  Otherwise, you may just be hauling old problems into a new envoronment, and making things worse.  I've seen it a lot over the years.
First, verify that all of your drives have at least 15% of their total capacity as free space.  Not enough free space on any dirve can cause similar odd behaviors.
Second, you need to do some housee cleaning.  Start by downloading and running the free application "Preference Manager" from Digital Rebellion (dot com).  Use it to trash the FCPX preference files.  It is easy and safe to you.  None of your media or projects will be touched.  After that, run Disk Utility to "Repair" all of your drives (ignore "Verify", total waste of time).
If none of that helps, I'd recommand you download the free application "FCS Remover" from Digital Rebellion.  Use it to uninstall FCPX.  Some folks say to just move the app from the Applications folder to the Trash.  That leaves a bunch of other files hanging around that could be bad.  Use this app.  Once you've uninstalled FCPX, launch the App Store, go to the Purchases section, and FCPX will have an "Install" button.  Reinstall a fresh copy, see if that helps.

  • Problems importing and playing songs from an external cd/dvd drive

I am having problems importing songs on my PC from an external usb drive. What I have is an external combo usb firewire drive hooked up to my pc with a usb cable. (usb 2.0) When I launch itunes, it sees the cd I have loaded but when I go to import the songs, itunes just pops past each song in a second like each song was just a second in length. Then I have some corrupt file in my itunes library. Itunes gets the cd names and titles from CDDB correctly but can't play the songs or import them. I use this pc solely for playing audio, it is a Pentium 4 2.6 with 1GB of ram with build in usb 2.0 on the motherboard. There is no other software installed on the system other then virus software. When I use Windows Media Player the cd is read perfectly fine. I even play DVDs off the drive with no problems too. This problem in intermittent, with different cds. These are all commercial cds not burnt ones that someone made for me. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Toonz - I have exactly the same problem when trying to import songs - itunes does recognise the cd drive and names of tracks etc - it just won't play more than one second of each, or import any more. i did run the cd diagnostic check you suggested - results below - don't mean anything to me i'm afraid - any bright ideas?

  • FCPX has suddenly started crashing when trying to import media

I updated FCPX to 10.0.8 a couple of weeks ago and everything has been fine until today (I'm fully updated with Mountain Lion as well) .  Now every time I try to import media, FCPX crashes. This occurs right after I hit the "Import Selected" button -- and occurs regardless of type of media, where I'm importing it from, or how many clips.  I get a very long error message -- I've attached just the first part of it (through Thread 0) below.  The entire error message runs through Thread 37.
The only thing I did right before this happoened was to delete some old unused applications that were not even on the system HD (they were on a different internal HD - drive A).  The applications included very old versions of Final Cut and iMovie that had not been opened in a couple of years.  After I did this, FCPX suddenly started to recognize another internal HD (drive C) as a camera for the first time, and tried to import a bunch of old home movies, which it has never done before.  And ever since then it started crashing when trying to import new media -- even after I "ejected" drive C.
Any ideas?  I'm at a total loss and in the middle of a big project for a client, and could really use some help.  Thanks!

I'th Mountain Lion as well.  *and FCPX 10.0.7

Update: the problem is definitely with the internal HD "drive C".  Before restarting FCPX after the last crash I unmounted the C drive -- then restarted FCPX and was able to import media just fine.  I thought I had tried this already, but I guess not.
So, what did I change with my C drive when I deleted the old apps off my A drive?  There is both an iMovie events and projects folder on the C drive -- but FCPX has never tried to import them until after I deleted the old iMovie app (I still have the most recent version of iMovie on my system drive -- but have never used it to open these old folders).  I read on another thread on this forum that if I "hid" these folders, FCPX would not try to recognize them, so I moved them to within another folder on the same drive -- but FCPX is still trying to recognize and show them when the Import Media window is launched --  and still shows the C drive as a camera.
So, what can I do to stop this from happening?
    Thanks!

  • Problem import iMovie 10.0.1

I can not understand how the import from the camera to a new aymuvi. The note says that the import occurs in fonovomm mode. But oddly enough he does not. Aymuv himself knows this and offers forced to import video from a camera from the menu File?
But there is no such item. How forced to import from my camera? rescue
UPD: the button Import media .... pressed zero results displayed in the clip only this icon:
    Camera: GoPro Hero 3 BE

it seems i've solved this problem on my own, so ignore this, i suppose.

  • Can't import media

OK, I'll start by telling you what I THINK caused this problem.  I've been working on this project on one computer, then moved my HD to another to work at the office.  I had to let PE know where the files were.  When I pointed it to their location, it seemed at first to get it's new bearings.  But I see that this really screwed things up...I think.
Now that I'm back at my home computer, whenever I got to place a file in the timeline, I see this batch of confusion...I get the same symbol regardless of the file type I import.  I see the same symbols for all of the files I'd previously imported, but they are correctly rendered in the timeline.
I've tried deleting the files and re-importing, and just redoing the get media thing.  When I do, windows presents the standard looking window of files.  I click any file in the list and all the files are cleared from the screeen and only the one I clicked remains.  The process is pretty wierd and looks like this.
Basic question....how do I get PE to let me import media again?
Philosophical question....why does this happen just as I get near the end of a project.  Have I taken Murphy on as a partner?

Well, yes and no.  I can get media into the project but....
I just added my last day of time lapse using the numbered stills method.  Zip,  into the timeline.  Yee Hawww.  Then I rendered it so I could see it quickly enough to reposition it with your spot on Bezier curve advice.  Once it was rendered about 1/4 of a 30 second clip plays then it freezes.  I can't even see additional frames when I focus my view later in the clip.
I tried creating a new project and dropping into it.  Same thing.  I'm in the process of burning it to a disk to see if it's really in there or not.
In that I get something different whenever I reconfigure memory, that's almost got to be it.  I'm going to try to leave you guys alone for a while and work through memory options.  If you see a big mushroom cloud comming up over Dallas....that's me;-)

  • Problem importing into FCPX from SD card

Hi, I'm having a problem importing some videos from a micro SD card into FCPX.  It is some helmet camera footage shot at 720P @ 30fps.  It's a .mov file.
My problem is when I go to the "import media" window, I can see the files on the import screen.  I can also skim and play the files before they are imported.  The first time I tried to import them, I got an error message (which I unfortunately didn't write down). After I clicked "OK" on the error message, I could still see the file thumbnail, but if I hovered my mouse over it, the thumbnail turned black. I then restarted FCPX, and tried again.  I found that I could still see, skim, and play the file, but when I choose to "import selected" the little pie shaped downloading icon doesn't appear anymore and the file doesn't attempt to import.
Should I go to Disk Utility and do a "Verfiy Disk" and "Repair Disk" (if necessary) or might I permanantly delete the corrupted file if I "fix" it by repairing the disk?
I have a screenshot of the import screen if needed, but the resolution is terrible.  I'll need to take another one if it would be beneficial to see it.
Thanks in advance for any help!
    Glen

A screen shot would be good..
If you have mulltple files and you know which one is a problem, select just the others and import them.
Try copying the entire card to your HD and seeing whether it will import from your computer.

  • Problem Importing Music from

Hello, I just setup my network attached storage and I'm having problems importing music from it. I get a runtime error with CTImport.exe "abnormal program termination", nice and informati've (see below). I'm running MediaSource 3.30.2, the most recent version. I can add songs little by little, but anytime I try and import a bunch, I get the error. It's not the length of the pathname either, because I added the longest one individually, and it was fine.
I tried importing from a mapped dri've letter and from the network path directly, both have same problem. I also get the same error from the file sniffer built into MediaSource.
I'm actually running an external USB hard dri've that is attached to Linksys's Storage Link NLSU2 (or something). Don't know if that is the problem. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    <IMG src="http://www.dustinandalison.com/Ebay Pics/MediaSourceError.JPG">

Yes, I originally had all my songs on my local dri've. Anyway, it turned out to be a "corrupt" file. This file was fine in every other media player I had, but MediaSource couldn't do anything with it, not even play it (it was an unprotected .wma). I don't know if that song was originally imported while on the local dri've, but I deleted it and MediaSource imported everything fine.
It was a pain hunting that one song down.
    Thanks.

  • Premiere Pro CC crashes when importing media.

Premiere Pro CC crashes when importing media. Every time. Driving me crazy.
It crashes as soon as the Windows dialogue box comes up.
Does it in new projects and in a project I created and imported into just fine 2 days ago.
    Have rebooted.
Running Windows 8.1 on Samsung Series 5 ultrabook Intel i5 - not too sure what else to say about other settings:
I did have a problem the other day when Windows was crashing when browing a large folder of largish  images and video clips but it went away when I put images and videos in separate folders.

    Thanks for reply.
Point taken but I've been using it for over a year for simple edits (5 min films) in PPCC just fine. Can't even do what I could do the other night now.
Simple folder with a few jpegs and movies in it. In fact it just crashes before I even got to another folder.

  • FCP X "unexpectedly quits" every time I click "Import Media."

I recently decided to upgrade our office software from FCP 7 to FCP X. I've worked with FCP X on my personal laptop with no issues, but for some reason, the MacBooks and iMacs at work are having issues. The biggest issue is the application "unexpectedly quitting." On my personal iMac, any time I try to "Import Media" in any way (hitting Command I, via the Event Library or the Project Library) Final Cut just unexpectedly quits and brings up a huge long error message.
I've read other threads on here that suggest trashing your preferences using Digital Rebellion software and hiding events, and I've tried those things, but they didn't work. I trashed the whole application and reinstalled it already. I've rebooted about 100 times. Am I missing something?
Also, why does this seem to be such a big problem for FCP X users? Why does FCP X crash so frequently? FCP 7 very rarely crashed on me.
    I'm using the following:
    iMac
    27-inch, Mid 2010
Processor: 2.8 GHz Inrtel Core i5
    Memory: 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 2750 1024 MB
    Software: OS X 10.8.2 (12C60)

If there is a software conflict in the way the user is set up. It seems as if there is something on the work machines that isn't compatible with FCP. A new, clean, admin user is one way to test some things in the system.
The last time I crashed FCP I was playing with it on a system that I knew would fail because of the 680MX graphics card.
P.S. are the work machines on a network of some sort, maybe with remote devices mounted?

  • Problem importing into AE CS6

Hello. I have a problem importing some footage into AE CS6. It was filmed with a Canon XA10 in PF30. My primary computer is a Windows 7 based system with plenty of RAM and a i7 processor. While Premiere Pro can import this footage and allows me to edited, the problem starts when I try to import it into AE CS6. I have the cloud and AE should be up to date with its updates. When I try to import the footage I get an error that states "After Effects warning: Error with file" I also use an Mac with Mountain Lion (at a different location) and it has no problems importing this footage into AE CS6 and allowing me to edit it. Here are the errors that I receive
The top image is the error that I get.
The next image is source information I get when it is imported into Media Converter.
The bottom left image is the import screen from AE. I circled the only difference that I noticed.
The bottom right image is some footage that AE does not have any problems with.
I have searched the internet and someone suggested that I convert the footage to another codec like MOV. I have done this many time using different codecs (mov, h264, avi, etc) and I have converted these files on the Mac as well.. All of those files come up with the same error in AE as well as nothing in the format location in the AE import screen. I am thinking that my Windows system maybe missing a codec that is installed on the Apple. Can anyone tell me if I am missing a codec? If so can anyone tell me where I can get this codec. Any help would be great as I have been woking on this problem for a while now.

You can drag the comps from the project window in AE to the project window in Premiere Pro. This won't work if you happen to have installed the applications individually instead of as part of Production Premium or another suite or products, but as long as you installed them together, you can drag and drop between the applications all you want.
