Problems importing MiniHDV footage to Quicktime Pro
I'm trying to import and backup home movies from our HV20 (both for archive and editing purposes). I have QTP configured for DV import, and it works fine, but with no particular pattern, quicktime will stop importing and display a message saying something to the extent of "maximum file size has been reached". This happens sometimes after 300 mb have imported, other times after 6 gb. The files are importing onto an array with 2+ tb so disk space isn't an issue..
Occasionally, it seems that any minor system change will trigger this error. One time, the screen dimmed (as per my energy saving settings) and triggered the error. Other times, iCal alerts interrupt the process. Is QTP really this touchy?
Anyone have any suggestions? Are there any other programs that will import mini DV into a whole file? I'd use FCP, but I just want a raw .mov file without having to re-export something..

Ah, yes: 'importing'. Sorry, I 'import' by 'recording a new movie' in Quicktime Pro.
The drives are formatted Mac OS X Extended (Journaled). There is also about 260 gb free on the startup disk.
I setup QTP for mini DV 'importing' by choosing my HV20 as the video source in recording preferences, and the audio source as automatic. Works fine, with this one exception.
So an update, I just tried to import/record this mini DV tape again, and it got about 40 mins in with no problem, and then my screen saver turned on! Sonuva... So of course, that triggered the error and my recording ended.
Now I've disabled the screensaver, sleep time, screen dim and any system alerts. I've also made sure to quit any other program. Hopefully it'll work this time..

Hi all. I’m having a similar problem that I've seen posted on here but I have Adobe Premiere Pro (the first version upgrade.) I upgraded it from Premiere 5.0. Every time I try to import some Mpeg files to edit, it freezes up and crashes. I’m wondering if someone could help me. My computer specs are below:

HD footage in Quicktime Pro 7.5 plays audio but no video / PC
Hello,
I'm trying to play HD footage in QT Pro 7.5 on my PC Notebook. I have the latest version for QT as well as the latest updates from MS.
Can anyone shed some light (no pun intended) as to why I'm not getting video? Am I missing a specific codec for Windows QT version or won't HD footage play in QT Pro 7.5 for Windows?

ITunes AAC import settings relative to QuickTime Pro settings
QuickTime Pro has the following two additional AAC import settings that iTunes does not have:
Quality: Faster, Fast, Normal, Better, Best
Encoding Strategy: Average Bit Rate, Variable Bit Rate, Variable Bit Rate Constrained, Constant Bit Rate
iTunes does have a Use Variable Bit Rate check box, though.
Which values for these settings does iTunes use? Is it different if you have purchased QuickTime Pro? Wlll the settings in QuickTime Pro affect iTunes?
I tried converting the same WAV file in both iTunes & QuickTime Pro. I varied the settings in QuickTime Pro, and used VBR in iTunes. The closest files that I generated in QuickTime Pro used Normal Quality with either Average Bit Rate or Variable Bit Rate (though I didn't try every permutation of settings). Both files were different than the iTunes file, however.

machine: iMac 27", Core i7, 8GB.
I did find a workaround just now:
In my experience, when you choose "Custom..." from the "Settings:" drop list, the custom settings window flickers (as in, appears/disappears) rapidly for a couple of seconds before iTunes finally crashes and you are prompted to send a support dump to Apple.
I have found that after selecting "Custom..." and seeing the flickering custom settings window, if I very quickly hit and release Command-Tab to switch to another application (in this case Safari, with an open browser window - not sure if it makes a difference), instead of iTunes crashing, I will see iTunes bouncing away in the Dock as if it has something to say to me, and when I Command-Tab back to it, the custom settings window is sitting there, not flickering, and I have now successfully made changes to the AAC import settings in this way.
The weird thing is, I found this out a few minutes back as I was composing iTunes feedback to Apple stating how to reproduce the bug in a Safari window, and so I was carefully noting what steps I needed to take to cause the bug... after seeing the flickering custom settings window, I Command-Tab'd away from iTunes to Safari, and in doing so stumbled upon this workaround.

Importing sony video to quicktime pro 7
I am trying to import videos from my Sony Handycam into Quicktime Pro 7 for editing and submission via the internet to a third party. Quicktime doesn't want to open the files due to an error code 2048. How can I convert the files to MP4 to see and edit them?
The files found on the camera are MPEG-2 format and QuickTime Player Pro can't even open them without additional software:

But QuickTime Player Pro isn't the tool for editing MPEG-2. It will not even extract the audio track during export.

How Do you import C100 footage into Premiere Pro CC
I just tried importing Canon C100 footage into Premiere Pro CC, but get no sound. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong and I pray I don't have to convert this footage before bringing it in. Is there a workflow anyone can recommend? Do I have to convert the footage first? Thanks, Lucian

PrPro should work natively with the Canon C100 footage ... it works with almost everything out there. And with the C100 shooting MP-4, AVCHD, & H.264, those are all handled easily by PrPro.
My question ... I would surmise (from what little info you include) you are shooting AVCHD? The reason I say this is that format splits audio & video into different files ... so it's a bit trickier to "import" than others that have the a & v in one file. Make sure you copied the whole top-leveL FOLDER and all sub-folders (not just the footage or contents of a folder) from the cam/card into the computer for AVCHD ... and then when you import into a project via the media browser your audio & video should be all connected by PrPro.
There have been numerous threads here where AVCHD users have "lost" their audio, only to find they'd simply left it behind by NOT copying all the folders & subfolders their camera had created. -

Problem importing video footage on to iMovie
I have just bought a Sanyo Xacti camcorder and have just imported my first videos on to the Macbook. Weirdly, only about 40% of the product seems to have been imported, ie. if a piece of film lasts 40 seconds on the Sanyo only 18 seconds is imported on to the Macbook.
Strangely, this is not the case if I use iphoto, where the entire film seems to be imported.
Help! Any ideas why imovie is not importing the full video recordings?I have similar problem importing from Sony camcorder to iMovie9. Four short videos are on the camera, but only the last one imported. I use Import All, but the other videos still don't show in iMovie, so I also can't see them to manually select them. Should have enough processing speed. Also, have plenty of memory. Any ideas?

Importing IMX50 footage into Premiere Pro CS5.5

I've been trying to import a Final Cut 6 project into Premiere Pro CS 5.5 without any success. The footage is originally imx 50 codec. I do an xml import and I get a error message saying it cant read the .mov codec. It can see the sequence but can't associate any of the footage to it. I also tried transcoding the FCP sequnce to prores and then doing an xml export but with exactly the same result! Can anybody help?Hi Colin,

Problem importing VOB files using Premiere Pro CC
Something must have changed between CS6 & CC as far as importing VOB files from non-DRM DVDs.
When I import the VOB files from a DVD using CS6, the import seems to go fine.
But when I import the VOB files from the same DVD using CC, the video info Frame Size and Aspect Ratio of the last VOB files comes in "wrong" when it should be the same as all of the other files.
It always seems to be the last file and it always seems to be off by the same amount.
I can Interpret Footage back to the same aspect ratio as the rest of the VOB files, but I cannot seem to fix the incorrect framesize.
I am using Premiere Pro CC Version 7.2.1(4).

Problem Importing HD footage at 50i
Hi. I'm shooting HD footage on a Canon Legria FS10 (for some reason, it's called a 'Vixia' in the States), and importing into FCP via log and transfer. I'm using Canon's own MXP format (24 fps) When I shoot at 50i, the footage comes in with jagged edges on panned object. It plays fine on the camcorder. When I shoot at the alternative PF25, everything's hunky dory. I realise this is probably something of a Canon question, but the problem only occurs when I'm importing into FCP.
Anyone out there who can make sense of all these settings? Am I losing potential quality shooting at PF25?

Did you place the progressive clip in the same sequence as your interlaced material? In order to take the full advantage of a progressively scanned video you need to set the field dominance in your sequence settings to "none".
Should I be applying the De-Interlace filter, or does that just convert the footage to progressive scan, anyway?
You could do that but you will still need to set the sequence's field dominance to "none". Please bear in mind that if quality of image is of paramount importance and surely detectable by your target, simply de-interlacing may not be the way. Most of the times de-interlace (certainly the one supplied with FCP) filters get rid of one of the fields in a frame, either the upper or the lower, that is your choice. This means that you loose half of the resolution in a frame. The "whole" image that you see after the de-interlace process is achieved via interpolation where the software (plug-in) guesses on how to fill the gaps. For more on progressive, interlaced and de-interlaced video have a look here.
To achieve the best results when you de-interlace, you need to double de-interlace, a process where both fields are kept but the frame rate doubles, that you end up with videos that are either 50 fps or 60 fps (depending on source PAL or NTSC)
What kind of monitor wouldn't exhibit the jagged effect?
All oldies, CRTs that is and, I guess, modern TV sets can present interlaced signals with no ill effect. -
Problem with red footage import
I cannot import red footage in premiere pro cs4: error message "file grayed or damaged" Do you know why ?
After quitting CC (I'm not a subscriber kind of user, that's all), I went back to my master suite Cs6.
I did one mistake, updating to the current version. A sign of my problem was that Ae Cs6 didn't worked either (in terms of RED files).
(FCPX and RED Cine X etc worked fine, so I excluded a problem on my system)
The only solution that I found was working was: After I rolled back to Pr Cs6 6.0.2 (I do no updates druing productions, so one MAC was on 6.0.2, I just copied it)
It didn't worked with 6.0.0 nor with any other than the one named above.
The ImporterRedserver.app was 6.0.0 and the Importerred.bundle was the only one in history named ImporterRED 3.38.08 PM.bundle, which was version 6.0.1
Of course that will not work with Dragon. I tested Scarlet and Epic files from the past two years. They open fine.
The problem is, if one mixes the versions (e.g., newest RED Cine X and the Photoshop plug in, the stored information in the .RMD file might shift the color: compare Ps RED plug in v6 and v7, with an RMD setting done in RED Cine X. There is a huge shift in blue)
So, all in all, I hope Adobe delivers a new "bundle" and "app" for Dragon and Pr CS v6.0.x -
Hello. I have a problem importing some footage into AE CS6. It was filmed with a Canon XA10 in PF30. My primary computer is a Windows 7 based system with plenty of RAM and a i7 processor. While Premiere Pro can import this footage and allows me to edited, the problem starts when I try to import it into AE CS6. I have the cloud and AE should be up to date with its updates. When I try to import the footage I get an error that states "After Effects warning: Error with file" I also use an Mac with Mountain Lion (at a different location) and it has no problems importing this footage into AE CS6 and allowing me to edit it. Here are the errors that I receive
The top image is the error that I get.
The next image is source information I get when it is imported into Media Converter.
The bottom left image is the import screen from AE. I circled the only difference that I noticed.
The bottom right image is some footage that AE does not have any problems with.
I have searched the internet and someone suggested that I convert the footage to another codec like MOV. I have done this many time using different codecs (mov, h264, avi, etc) and I have converted these files on the Mac as well.. All of those files come up with the same error in AE as well as nothing in the format location in the AE import screen. I am thinking that my Windows system maybe missing a codec that is installed on the Apple. Can anyone tell me if I am missing a codec? If so can anyone tell me where I can get this codec. Any help would be great as I have been woking on this problem for a while now.You can drag the comps from the project window in AE to the project window in Premiere Pro. This won't work if you happen to have installed the applications individually instead of as part of Production Premium or another suite or products, but as long as you installed them together, you can drag and drop between the applications all you want.
