Problems importing PDF comments

Hello,
I've read the previous discussions regarding this issue and have not found any answers. I have FM 11 and Acrobat 10. I am not changing the source file after creating the tagged PDF but FM states that the source file has changed and insists on only placing markers randomly in the FM document instead of importing the comments. I work with multiple users and this feature would greatly help our team since converting from Word to Frame and back is nearly impossible. Please help!

In pre-FM12, even a Save (or auto-save in the background) counted as a change, so you really have to be extra careful if you want to get this working. FM12 has improved it immeasurably.

  • Import PDF Comments malfunctioning

    Hi all,
The feature in FrameMaker 9 we were looking out for the most was the ability to creat e a PDF for Review and afterwards import the changes and comments created in that PDF.
Three months in it still doesn't work.
The Scriptorium peeps already noticed it (http://www.scriptorium.com/whitepapers/FM9review.pdf) and now we are having great problems with it too.
Comments come in at the wrong places, usually between a few characters or pages higher in the file.
Does anybody else have any experience (good or bad) with this feature?
Is there an improvement to be expected?
    Regards,
    Roel Van de Water.

    Hi Ron,
What is being shown in the summary which comes after import is done. Is it showing some comments as misplaced? Are the comments coming as Markers or as tracked text edits? Comments will come as misplaced if they are applied over text like variables, cross refs or text insets. Also for successful importing the text should be in a flow i.e the text frame should have a flow name.
    Regards

  • Problems importing PDF file to Forms Central

I am trying to import a PDF file to Form Central, last week the file imported fine, we had to make some corections, and now when I try to import the file I get this response
FormsCentral could not import the PDF form because it has more than 500 form fields.
can someone enlighten me on this,  I did not add any more fields, I just adjusted the tabs and labeled the form fields.
    Thanks New

Thanks Josh...that's what I ended-up having to do. The problem is this will now produce two separate responses. I now have to devise a way to track/connect submissions from part A & part B (i.e, by adding a reference ID to both forms), otherwise we wouldn't know which data applies to which responses - considering the applications will now be submitted at different times vs as a whole. Just another setback with Form Central.
The other issue is with Form Central reordering certain fields in the Response table.  My field names and tab order set in Acrobat are 100% in sequence - in terms of the names in the tab order panel matching the actual placement of the fields on the page. When I upload/import the PDF to Form Central, certain fields are placed out of order and I have to scroll through "miles" of headers just to find the misplaced field to manually reorder it.  Is there any progress in having this issue resolved in Form Central? I have no idea what Form Central is reading when it imports the PDF, because it doesn't appear to looking at the form structure in terms of the tab order.
Also, will the 500 field max ever get increased?
i think Form Central offers a good solution for being able to submit data but these quirks are casting a shadow on the brand.

  • Problems Importing pdfs into iBook and sync to iPad air 2

Is there a solution to what appears to be a widespread problem within the community? That of not being able to import books in pdf form into iBooks and subsequently syncing with an iPad Air 2 running iOS 8.1. This seems to be specific to pdfs not 'purchased' from iTunes. In the past I have had all my software manuals available on my iPad, synced with my iMac, all working happily and would dearly love to return this situation.
I then upgraded to iOS 8. Big mistake. iTunes on the iMac (OS 10.6.8) does not sync pdfs to new iPad.
Try syncing from MacBookPro (OS 10.10) still no luck.
There are suggestions to use iTunes, but there is no longer an option to view 'Books' in iTunes.
Can anybody offer a work around until such times as the collective 'apple digit' is removed and a not so 'minor bug' is fixed?
Are Apple working on this problem or even aware of it?

Have you tried the shortcut to add books/pdfs Command Shift O?
Command Shift O is not available in iBooks (Greyed Out)
Command Shift in Finder shortcuts to Documents
Maybe I didn't explain myself very well earlier. When I am working in iBooks, having control clicked multiple files and selected 'Open With iBooks' to get the pdfs into iBooks, (as per your suggestion) a click on a pdf icon initiates nothing, a double click causes the pdf to open in Preview. This I can achieve from the Finder.
The reason I haven't tried to sync from the MBP is that I rely on iPad iBooks as a reference source. At the moment it is working but not the way I want it to (Sync via iMac 10.8.6). When Ibooks on the MBP is finally OK, then I will try.
    Thanks for hanging in there.

  • Upgrade from RH10 to RH11 - cpd, failure to Close, failure to Import PDF Comments

Hello, am looking for help with a recent conversion of a project that has been upgraded from RH8-9-10 and now trying to go into 11. Apparently when going from 10 to 11, the author had similar issues to what I am having now and had to rebuild the entire project using existing files off the published version. Issues are: cpd error message; project won't Close Project, Close, or Exit (requires Task Manager); and it will not Import Comments from PDF. On our first attempt to upgrade, we experienced more and more lost topics (had an X on them in the TOC) and finally all files were like that. Reverted to 10 at that point. Have tried removing cpd / xpj / double-clicking the hhp (?) and a few other things. Any help appreciated! Thank you.

Before upgrading, try running Tools > Update DHTML effects in topics just to make sure.
Make sure all files are writable and that you remove the CPD before trying to upgrade.

  • Problem importing PDF file from Word to Pages on IPad 2

I am trying to import a PDF file from Word 2007 to Pages on my iPad 2 using the file sharing function in iTunes.
I am able to import it, however when Pages saves it, I get the following message:
"Pages doesn't support some od the original document.
Objects in headers, footers, shapes, text boxes and table cells were removed.
    Merged table cells were unmerged.
Objects were removed from table cells."
The document is a PDF form which needs to be filled in. The document was downloaded from a website and saved as a Word document where I have been able to enter in information and print it.
I would like to be able to fill in the form and print it from Pages as there are other documents that accompany this PDF file. (these are plain text Word documents which I have succesfully imported and can edit and print.)
Is there any way for me to achieve this?
    Cheers,
    Jules

I don't think Pages can do this - you'll need a dedicated iPad PDF program that can fill in and edit PDF files. And even then, reports are that different readers work or dont' work with different PDF's... I use Goodreader, which can do some PDF filling in, but you might want to check the app store for others.

  • Problem importing PDF to InDesign

I'm creating a document that uses snippets from a PDF file. When I import those PDF pieces (after cropping in Acrobat) into InDesign there is a lot of degradation. The snippets are all type, although they include a Hebrew font. The odd thing is, when they're imported into a Word document, they look better than in InDesign. Are there any techniques that will retain the highest resolution of the PDF?
    Thanks for any help.
    Fred

I would not crop them before placing them in InDesign, I would use them at whole. I would avoid editing those file after finishing them.

  • Problems saving PDF comments in Reader X

    Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this behavior?
I created a PDF from FrameMaker 8 using Acrobat 8. A collegue reviewed the file and made comments using the Comment and Markup Tools feature in Acrobat Reader 9. Later he upgraded to Reader X and commented in the same file again. When he saved the file from Reader X, all of the comments (aproximately 95 of them) were wiped out of the PDF. Operating system is Windows XP, service pack 3.
Is there a limit to the number of comments/markups that can be made? Could this be a version compaibility issue?
    Thanks,
    Darci

Please repost in the Acrobat SDK forum.

  • Why is FM crashing during import of PDF comments?

I'm running FM 9.0p255 on Windows 7 and using Acrobat Pro 9.4.5 (running in Windows XP on another computer) to enable commenting in Adobe Reader. After saving the file, in Windows 7 I open Adobe Reader 9.2.0 and make comments, then save the file. In FM 9 I open my 2-page file and import pdf comments. FM crashes. I've been trying everything to eliminate the problem, all the way down to creating an FM file with just the words "This is a test" in it. I went through the Acrobat comment process and added one word. When I tried importing pdf comments, I got this error:
"The modification date of the source file is newer than creation date of the tagged PDF. PDF comments may not be imported correctly. Click Yes to continue."
When I click Yes, FrameMaker crashes.
What is strange is that my FM file has 8/5/2011 4:39 PM as the Date modified.
My commented PDF has 8/5/2011 4:43 PM as the Date modified.
I've tried rebooting my computer and that didn't help. Does anyone know anything else I can try?

Linda, I'm wondering if there's some "conflict" being triggered because you're using both Win 7 and WinXP --
Specifically, I wonder if the two systems have off-kilter time stamps, and that's why FM is giving the "newer creation date" problem.
I don't quite understand what role the XP system has in your test, though -- can you not just use FM == and == make the PDF on the same Win7 box, make the comment on that box, then import the comments?
Understandably you will probably eventually need to be able to import comments from all sorts of other systems, but for troubleshooting could you try making the full create-comment-import cycle on the Win7 box only?
If that does work, then you might see of you can set the system time on the XP box to be somewhat slower than the Win7 box, and re-try with the XP box in the mix.
Edit: changing the system time clock is suggested only as a testing procedure, to see if we can isolate the exact cause, I'm not suggesting that in order to work reliably all your reviewers would need to synchronize their systems :-)

  • Is there a way to import PDF files?

    Hello
I am using RoboHelp HTML Version 5.0.2 and I have encountered problems importing PDF files.  I have tried all the various options but they all loose the original format.  My PDF files can range from one to five pages.  Is there a way to import PDF files?

Check the RoboHelp HTML's help. In the Index, type "import" and select the "PDF files" subentry from the "Importing" entry.
Read the "Importing PDF files" topic; see also the link to "Tips for importing PDF files" in which one of the tips is:
Why is my imported PDF file displaying incorrectly?
PDF files can display certain font families that HTML cannot display. Consequently, in rare instances fonts contained in a PDF document may not convert correctly when imported into HTML.
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • 2 Problems with PDF Forms:  Import and Launcing PDF Form in Browser

We are installing SAP sersion 2004s and I have encountered 2 problems while working through several tutorials.
    1.  When Adobe Designer opens from the layout in SE80, the IMPORT option (under TOOLS) does not appear.  Is there an installation step(s) missing?
    2. I created a simple Adobe Interactive form based on T. Jung's demo (but without the imported PDF form).  Enabled is on and the binding is ok; yet, when I test the application the browser displays only a blank screen.  Other Web Dynpro for ABAP tutorials have worked fine, but not the Adobe Forms.  Again, is there an installation step(s) missing?
    regards,
    john

First make sure that you have the correct version of the Adobe Lifecycle Designer installed.  I am running 7.0.050519.0.  There are some OSS notes on how to upgrade to the 7.X version of the designer.
On the second problem, you probably don't have the correct version of the ACF installed.  The ACF (Active Control Framework) is only used when running Interactive PDF documents - not print version ones.  Have a look at OSS note 766191 and 846952.  I had to uninstall my current ACF and install the 04S SP7 version (according to the two notes listed) before I could build the demo in question.

  • Imported PDF File and unchecked FIXED ASPECT RATIO problems.

I just don't get it. . . . I have imported a pdf file into MOTION 2, unchecked BOTH Fixed Aspect Ratio boxes on both the media and the layers and I am still getting major rasterization!
When I scale up the file in Acrobat, there are NO problems. It's something that I am not doing in MOTION.
    Any help is VERY appreciated.
    Thanks
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

I didn't know you could import PDFs...
Are you putting any filters on it - that causes rasterization...

  • Problem with imported pdfs from older version

I'm working in CS4. The InDesign document I'm working on was originally done in an older version of InDesign (not sure which). It contains imported pdfs that were created in CS2 and CS3. When I export to pdf the older imported pdfs don't display properly on my client's PC - the type is not there, only boxes with question marks - but the pdf looks fine on my screen. I upgraded from CS2 to CS4. The only way I've gotten around this is to export the CS4 InDesign document as an .INX file, have a friend open it up in CS3 and save down to an .INX file again, open the doc up in CS2, create the pdf from CS2, and open it in the older version of Acrobat. Then my client sees the type clearly on their PC
I'm using Suitcase (thought it was a font issue, but I don't think so now as the fix seemed to be between the CS versions.
Anyone else have this problem and/or a better solution? I'd like to be able to simply export a pdf and be done with it.
    Thanks!

    Thats it thank you!
There was a text wrap applied to all the graphics. its working perfectly now!!
    Thank you again!!!

  • Problem with PDF hyperlinks

    Hello,
I am having a very weird problem with exporting PDF from InDesign (CS3).
Ok, so I create, with InDesign, different pages with hyperlinks (text and graphics) and I export them as a PDFs, making sure the "Include hyperlinks" is checked.
Now the hyperlinks in those PDFs work very well.
My problem comes when I import those PDFs in a new InDesign file and then export again a new PDF (again with the "Include hyperlinks" checked). The hyperlinks of the imported PDFs doesn't work.
Does anyone know about a solution?
    Thank you,
    Kina

PDFs imported into ID are treated as images. The hyperlinks are not visible in an image. If the hyperlink is a full URL, then it may still be active in Acrobat when viewed because of abilities in Acrobat and Reader but it is user choice and may not work for everyone. See here
