Problems Importing Slides / Captivate 3

I have a series of 6 related Captivate projects, plus one I
use as a template. Since there's some shared content, I need to be
able to copy slides from one project to another, but I am having
serious import problems. When I try to import slides from one
project to another, typically what happens is the process runs
(slowly) and then I get one additional blank slide (regardless of
how many I attempted to import). Or nothing at all.
I have tried everything I can think of - importing slides
only (no objects), importing to and from only from very small
projects, excluding question slides from the import, importing
small sets of slides--contiguous and not, clearing the cache,
cleaning up my disk, rebooting...
I am stumped. Is something hosed? Any ideas what else I can
try? I have in the past had no trouble w/importing, even within
this set of files...
I am using Captivate 3 & XP.
Thanks in advance.

I tried out one of Rick's (Captiv8r's) suggestions in an
answer to another post, and so far it seems to have been a miracle
cure for this and some other ills. The solution involves removing
or renaming this file: captivate_v30.dat
Here's the link to the other post, and the solution:

  • Intermittent problems importing images into Captivate 5 from PowerPoint 2010 slides

Occasionally, when I import slides from a PowerPoint 2010 pptx file, certain of the images don't move over into captivate.
Most (if not all) of my images have been saved as .jpg files, so I don't believe that there would be problems with different file types.  Some of the images may be saved at different quality levels; could this possibly affect the import process?
I can't identify what about these images somehow mark them as "different" to Captivate, and therefore prevents their importation.
Any help that can be provided is appreciated.

    Hi Rahul,
I would but I am not the original poster. You will have to wait for JDPJDPJDPJDP to send you the file.

  • Problems with import slides powerpoint

    Hello,
I have a problem with import slides from the powerpoint, when
I try to import, the computer blow.
    What I can do?

there have been lots of issues regarding this, however, I
have found that if I export my ppt as individual jpeg slides I can
then use the "insert > Slide > Image Slide" command to bring
in my ppt slides, I have tried everything else as well but what was
happening to me was Captivate 3 was losing all of my text and text
animation. Now my animation is not critical, however, the text is
very important of course. So now I have stagnat slides, a bit
boring but at least I was able to finish my project.
    Hope this helps.
    Tony :)

  • I want to edit the text within Captivate after importing slides from PowerPoint

    Hi,
Background: I import slides from a .pptx file. Once the slides are created inside of Captivate, I want to edit the text on the slide, but I can't; it's all become part of the background. So, I am left with two options: 1) open the .pptx file, edit the text, and then re-import the slide 2) Manually create everything on the slide inside of Captivate. This is so labor-intensive. I was hoping Captivate 7 would address this, but what seemed could possible address it - High Fidelity - isn't available for mac. I'm sure others have this problem too.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe you'd better look at Adobe Presenter if you need only to convert a PPT to an eLearning course?
Captivate is much more powerful, but its principal goal is not to convert PPT's. Each PPT-slide is converted into a movie slide so that all animations will be transferred properly. Personally I never create presentations in PPT but always directly in CP. You could import only the backgrounds, and create the other objects in CP. Images can be imported into the library, audio as well.

  • Importing other Captivate Slides

When I import other captivate slides or objects into my
current project, if I try to save after that point, my system
becomes unstable and Captivate comes up "Not Responding" and will
not close by any means other than a system restart.
    Anyone else have this problem?
    Solutions??

I am having the same problem. When I import a slide, any
slide, and try to save the project with the imported slide, the
application goes, really, really, slow. My computer has 1GB of Ram.
When Windows XP is finished loading, I still have 500MB of RAM for
applications. I also checked to make sure this incident was not
isolated on my computer. So I installed Captivate 2 on another
computer with 1GB of RAM and it still had the same problem I
described above. The funny thing is, if I leave my computer on
overnight, the import finally works. But that is absurd, Captivate
2 users can't wait more than 5 min for a slide to import. Somebody
help me! Is their an upgrade I am not aware of?

  • Unable to import MS PowerPoint slides Captivate 6 on Mac

I have an existing project which I imported two PowerPoint slides into without a problem. I then made changes to the slides in PowerPoint, and when I went to re-import to Captivate, I get this pop-up message:
This is on Mac OS X 10.8.3. I open the same project/PowerPoint presentation on Windows 7, and I am able to import without a problem. The only thing I can think that has changed on the Mac platform is a recent update to the Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac.
    Is this a known issue?
    Thanks.

Sorry to pop in, but was looking at the first screenshot: the chosen resolution is probably not the native resolution of your PPT, moreover you unchecked 'maintain aspect ratio'. Did you ever try to import the PPT at its native resolution, or at least when choosing another to keep the width/height ratio the same? Personally I would not recommend to create a project with another resolution. One of the features that is to me the most annoying in PPT (I avoid using it) is that you have to define the size in a print measuring unit like in or cm (in my case) which is totally crazy for an application that aims at presentations that will be given on a screen where the unit is always pixels. Captivate will translate the PPT-resolution to pixels and propose it, is there a reason why you don't want to use that? If necessary you can always rescale the project in Captivate later on (not recommended neither because of the quality loss).

  • Import Slides/Objects in Captivate 5

I just installed Captivate 5 on my Mac and can not for the life of me find a way to import Slides/Objects like I could in Captivate 4. I create tutorials for work and they are similar, except the background. I know that might sound odd but we have 3 sister companies and the layout of the tools are the same, just the branding is differnt. So I have grown accustomed to just importing the objects from one "master" tutorial into the others.
Am I missing something or was this option removed from Captivate 5?

    Hello,
Rick's answer is totally correct. There was a discussion about dropping this feature in the development process, and with the use of MDI (Multiple Documents Interface) the copy/paste from one project to another seems to be indeed a more intuitive and quicker workflow. And the former limits on filesize and number of slides are (almost) no more there, so you can open several projects without fear. Importing took quite a lot of waiting and keystrokes especially if you wanted only to import certain slides from another project.
But of course, if you disagree, feel free to introduce a feature request.

  • Captivate closes down when importing slides/objects/widgets

My Captivate 4 is bugging up.  When I try to import slides/objects or widgets the slide goes white and the program shuts down.
I need to use the import function to complete my movies, and do not have time to recreate them all.
Does anyone know why this is happening, and if I there is a way to fix it?
None of my movies are more than 30 screens, so it should not be size.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hello and welcome to the forum,
Seems indeed that something got corrupted, could be a slide (or more) or objects. But it is difficult to tell the real cause. To detect the culprit, try to copy to a new blank project (same resolution), but not all slides at once. How did you copy/paste images: from another application or between slides? If it is from a graphical app please use the Insert function to preserve quality.

  • Problems importing PCM .wav into Captivate CS4

This is an FYI post, not asking for solutions - unless you've any particular insights/experience with it...
We're building some Captivate lessons (under Windows XP). We had external narrators send in their .wav files, recorded at:
    PCM, 44khz, 16bit, mono
Captivate will not import the files from one narrator whereas it has no trouble with the .wav files from another.
The error is "Unable to decode and import the selected wav/mp3 file"
Per Window's Properties, the files are exactly the same.
The narrator who's .wav files are the problem is using ProTools on the Mac.
The narrator who's file are not a problem is using an unknown tool on the PC.
    Resolution:
Downloaded the latest version of Audacity, opened a .wav and simply resaved (exported) it. No changes at all to the format.
That .wav file then imported into Captivate without a problem.
Fortunately the newer versions of Audacity have a batch ('chain' feature'). So I set that up to simply  'resave' and applied it to all the .wav files.
All imported just fine after that.
So it seems as if ProTools does something to the PCM format that CP CS4 just doesn't like!
    Hope that helps someone.
    Erik

Again, just FYI, we just encountered this again with a different narrator using ProTools under Windows.
I thought perhaps it was the Mac causing issues, perhaps a different...interpretation of the PCM format.
But now it definitely seems more a ProTools issue than an OS issue.
Of course, could be a finicky thing in Captivate moreso than ProTools.
So back to re-saving all these files.

  • The powerpoint import in Captivate 5 cannot be normally processed

I just installed Adobe Captivate 5 with Adobe elearing Suite 2, Since I've already installed Adobe CS5 Master Collection, The installation only added Captivate 5 in my computer(for I use office 2010, which version of office has no compatibility with Presenter 7, so it hadn't been installed), but when I choose import from powerpoint in the welcome interface of Cp 5 and then I choose a ppt or pptx file which I wanna import, when it began to import, it was extremely slow, even "No Responding"! It showed no difference with .ppt or .pptx files. In other words, it cannot import any slides now! How do I slove this problem?

I am also having problems importing PPT 2010 into Captivate 5. On the first attempt, it imported the PPT files with about 13 errors. It could not read shadowed text correctly. The size of the imported file doubled!
Since that attempt, Captivate 5 will not import PPT 2010 files at all. I receive the following error message: Cannot import the selected file. Refer to the documentation to ensure that you have installed the correct version of Microsoft Office. I have even uninstalled/reinstalled PPT 2010 (rebooting twice of course).
On an other site related to Adobe TV the statement is made that importing of PPT 2010 files has not been properly tested. If this is the case, why is adobe advertising that Captivate is PPT 2010 compatible?
In response to my feed back I received the following email: "A moderator has removed your comment to http://tv.adobe.com/watch/rich-media-in-technical-documentation/adobe-captivate-and-adobe- presenter-the-best-of-both-worlds/".

  • Problem importing PowerPoint

I have Captivate 2 running under XP, with MS Office 2003.
Till two weeks ago, everything was working fine. Then I did a
Captivate project using extremely large files, and now I can't
import PowerPoint slides. When I try to import, I get a pop-up
saying "Could not open PPT file". As a workaround, I can record
PowerPoint slide shows by clicking the Print Screen button on every
    slide, but this is inefficient.
I've spoken a number of times to Adobe support (level 1 and
2), and have tried all kinds of things, including reinstalling my
Flash player, making sure I'm the administrator on my machine,
deleting all Captivate directories on my hard drive before
reinstalling, installing Captivate with the Repair option checked,
reinstalling PowerPoint. Nothing is working. They suggested I post
a message here to see if anyone else has had this problem. In the
meantime, I'm awaiting a callback from their Level 3 support.
    Thanks in advance!

Holy cow!! Adobe has a 3rd level of support? Cool. Only
partially kidding ... I really didn't know you could access various
levels. Is the 3rd level where you get to talk to the actual
    engineers? Just wondered ...
Joel, in my experience it is often helpful to go to the most
basic approach in trying to isolate a problem. For instance, you
can eliminate the PPT being the cause of the problem by creating
    another to try importing.
You can eliminate computer resources (on your own machine) by
importing a tiny, tiny PPT file and work up to a larger one.
And finally (for now), have you tried to use Power Point's "
File > Page Setup" to reduce the footprint (size) of the
PPT you are trying to import into Captivate?
This has been known to help, and at one time years ago I even
had a formula of sorts to get the size of the PPT to compliment the
size of the Captivate stage (slide). Sadly, I can't find that now,
but I would think you should keep the aspect ratio (AR) the same,
    and that should help.
For instance, if the Captivate project is 800x600 (pixels),
the aspect ratio is 4:3 (as it is for the standard computer
monitor). Therefore you would want to set up your Power Point
project with that same AR so that the import process is not forced
to change AR, or to crop the imported images.
Hope there is something of value in there for you. When you
get up to that level of help where you are talking to the President
of Adobe, could you drop my name ... every little bit helps.
Have a very nice day JoelStern!!

  • Importing slides into project

I can't figure out what's happening.... when I try and import
slides from another project into a new one, the .cp file goes from
like 80megs to almost 200megs ... when this happens is the only
time in the directory I find along with the large .cp file, another
file like Ado8AE.tmp??? With some .cp that I try to import several
slides, the file grows to 450megs and then doesn't display but when
I try to load something else I get the warning dialog that I have a
file open to I want to save, when the file actually isn't even
displayed.... does this mean anything to anyone?
    Thanks, Cary

    Hi Cary
What you are seeing is the famous file bloating that
Captivate applies "sometimes". The only solution I have found that
works is to open my "bloated" file and then open a new instance of
Captivate that is set to the same size as the bloated project. Step
2 is to copy the slides (CTRL+A to select all works fine) from the
"bloated" file and paste them in the new Captivate project. Save
    new project under different name e.g. myprojectv2 (v2 = version 2)
and you will be amazed at the size reduction you get. You can now
import your new slides into the v2 project with no problem, though
you will get file size ncreasing again over time as you work, then
just repeat the above with a new version (v3 or whatever).
As a general guideline to myself, I do this every time my
    source file exceeds 40MB.
Hope this assists you and good luck.
PS On every new version, all you have to change is your skin
and preferences to make sure they matche the original file.

  • Imported slide show into PE11 and some pics rotated unexpectedly, How can get back to horizontal?

Imported slide show into PE11 and some pics rotated unexpectedly, How can get back to horizontal?

    winkhi
Just what are the pixel dimensions of these photos that are automatically rotating on you in Premiere Elements 11 workspace after being transferred there from the Elements Organizer Slideshow Editor? Do I have that correct? If so, how are you making the transfer....Edit with Premiere Elements Editor, Burn to Disc, or other as Elements Organizer 11 Slideshow Editor output?
What is the scenario...from the camera to the computer hard drive, landscape; from the computer hard drive to the Elements Organizer 11 Slideshow Editor, landscape; from the Elements Organizer 11 Slideshow Editor to Premiere Elements 11 Project Assets/Timeline, rotated to Portrait?
Do you find that the frequency of the problem is related to pixel dimensions, number of photos used? What is the format of these photos, jpg or other?
Are you using the Rotation option in the Applied Effects Tab/Applied Effects Palette/Motion Panel expanded to correct the photo rotation?
    Just some thoughts for now.

  • Problems importing movies into Keynote

I have been using Keynote for a couple of years (now using Keynote 08 on a MacBook running 10.5.5). I recently started having problems importing movie files into my Keynote presentations. I usually just drag a .mov file and it plays with no problems, but lately when I do this it doesn't appear on the Keynote slide and when I play the presentation I get only audio w/ no video. I tried importing the files to quicktime and exporting them again to be sure they were in the correct format. This seemed to work a few times, but now that isn't working either. Any suggestions?

I'm having what sounds like the same problem. I have Quick Time video from a Flip Cam that I want to use in a KeyNote presentation. I added the movie successfully at first, but when I opened the file to continue work, it appeared as a black box. It has sound, but no image. I can see it ok in the navigator. I've searched the forum for answers, but haven't found anything that works yet.
Does the display setting have anything to do with this? One of the computers I work on has the display set to use with a LED projector. Thanks

  • Cp4 - not saving after importing slides

I imported sldes from another Captivate 4 project only to discover that all changes I made after the import weren't saved. I selected Save but the asterisk in the project title window didn't appear. I tried quitting Captivate to force a save. The dialogue asking me to save appeared - I clicked Save and Captivate just sat there. I had to use Task Manager to quit the application and, when I reopened my file, the imported slides and the changes I made after importing were gone.
So importing slides is one more feature that doesn't appear to work.
I'm at the end of my first week working with Captivate 4 and I'm not impressed. The new features look promising but were they bought at the expense of older features that no longer work?
