Problems importing via Eos Capture (Canon 1ds mkII)
Am attempting to use Canon's EOS utility to shoot tethered with a 1 Ds mk II.
Would like all files to be directly imported into Light room. Have specified folders etc according to instructions (Martin Evening's light room book) but for every frame I shoot, I get the 'Import Photos' box which means I have to manually click ok before the images turn up in Light room. I would obviously prefer to skip this step. Does anyone know what I need to do differently? Can't the images automatically show up in Light room's library as I shoot?
Is this different from the web page at:

Problems importing RAW files from Canon 5D
My Lightroom 4.0 cannot read my RAW (CR.) files from my Canon 5D Mk1 . My MACbook can 'see ' them through Lightroom when I connect the camera but when I click import I get a message saying it cannot read the files (889)?
Can you please quote the error message exactly? Error messages that contain "cannot read" often mean that the permissions on the destination folder (where the RAW files are supposed to go to on your hard drive) are not set to WRITE permission. Please check.
Also, are you sure its a "Canon 5D Mk1"? Is that a typo? This list of supported cameras doesn't list that camera

Problems importing mts files from Canon HF M30 to PrE 9
I am not new to premiere elements, but I am new to PrE 9. I am also new to AVCHD, having recently received a Canon HF M30 camcorder. Now, when I import my video (as .mts files), the playback in Premiere Elements 9 is very choppy. What am I doing wrong? Is there something I can do with my camera or with PrE to fix the problem? Or do I need to convert my video files to another format?
I realize this may have been asked before, so feel free to direct me to the appropriate discussion if the issue has already been addressed elsewhere. Thanks!>is it safe to say
Yes, it is completely safe to say that your Pentium 4 computer will not edit AVCHD smoothly... and, you can't just replace the CPU, you need an entirely new computer
My CS5/AVCHD 1st Impressions http://forums.adobe.com/thread/652694?tstart=0 includes a link to the computer I built... since the GTX 285 is no longer sold, I would now go with a GTX 460 or whatever is the current "best bang for the buck" - AND I would buy 4Gig-by-3Sticks memory to be able to expand from 12Gig to 24Gig if needed
For my home hobbyist, family movies (which means that I am not trying to recreate Star Wars with video effects or many layers) AVCHD editing is "as smooth as spreading warm butter on hot toast" (also the MP4 video from wife's Flip camera)
My 3 hard drives are configured as...
1 - 320Gig Boot for Win7 64bit Pro and all program installs
2 - 320Gig data for Win7 swap file and video project files
3 - 1Terabyte data for all video files... input & output files (*)
(*) for 4 drives, drive 3 all source files & drive 4 all output files
Search Microsoft to find out how to redirect your Windows swap file

Trying to use only ONE Hard Drive for Video Editing
You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708?tstart=0 for more) with Windows (or Mac OS) and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is not slowed down by trying to do everything
I find that the three drives I use work very well for me, for editing AVCHD video... some people use a 4th drive, so video INPUT files are on drive three and all OUTPUT files are on drive four... I only bought a mid-tower case instead of a full tower case (my bad... but had to fit in the space available on my office desk!) so I use the three drives that will fit
Depending on your exact hardware (motherboard brand & model AND USB2 enclosure brand & model AND external hard drive brand & model) AND the type of video file, you may... or may NOT... be able to use an external USB2 hard drive for SD (Standard Definition) video editing
Steve Grisetti in the Premiere Elements forum http://forums.adobe.com/thread/856208?tstart=0 and Jim Simon in the Premiere Pro forum http://forums.adobe.com/thread/856433?tstart=0 use USB externals for editing
A USB3 hard drive connected to a motherboard with USB3 is supposed to be fast enough for video editing (I don't have such, so don't know) but eSata DOES have a fast enough data transfer for video editing... I have not used this eSata Dock... for reference only, YMMV and all the usual disclaimers

You could also consider an i7-2600 CPU (and the appropriate motherboard) with 16Gig of Ram -
Problem Using 420EX stobe with Canon 1Ds
I am trying to use my 420EX mounted on my 1Ds camera. The camera triggers the flash but the pictures are dark or the flash has no effect on the exposure. I used normal and high speed sync but nothing helps. The flash works fine with other cameras, namely 40D, 50D and 60D. Is something wrong with my 1Ds or is there a camera/flash setting I'm overlooking. This is a big problem because the camera does not have a built in flash like the others mentioned.
Hi rsknorr99,
Thank you for posting. I am inclined to agree with cicopo on this one. Please make sure the flash is all the way onto the hotshoe and it is secure. If it is loose, then there may be a connection issue between the flash and the camera. You can also try cleaning the contacts on both the flash and the hotshoe with a soft microfiber cleaning cloth. This will also help to improve the connection between them.
If this is a time sensitive-matter, additional support options are available at Contact Us.

I've been working for 2 years with Lightroom and importing pictures from my canon 1ds mark III
Suddenly it doesn't work. Can somebody explain this or help me to change something
so I can import my photos???import raw file default wrote:
When Im trying to import photos Lightroom says it not all import results are possible.
As DJ suggests, that's probably not the exact wording. Can we have that, please?
Still need your OS and Lightroom version too. -
I have CS2 and can't open RAW files from my new Canon EOS 1Ds MkIII in it. I presume this is because Camera Raw 3.7 doesn't support the new camera. Does anyone know if this is likely to change ie. is it likely to get supported?
If not does anyone know a way around the problem other than me having to upgrade to CS3.
Not that it is really relevant but I have Mac OS X 10.4.11
Thanks
GeoffNo, once a new version of the Creative Suite comes out, all new Camera Raw updates only work with the newest version of Photoshop.
There is a convenient workaround, though! Download the latest version of the Adobe Digital Negative Converter. Use that to convert all our EOS 1Ds Mark III images to DNG format. You can then open those DNG files up inside of Camera Raw 3.7!

I have CS2 which doesn't seem to support the 1Ds MkIII (I can't open Raw files from the camera in CS2). Is there any alternative to upgrading to CS3 that anyone knows about?
Hello forum, my first post on Adobe Forums.
I have just taken a 1ds Mk3 for a test drive and having downloaded the images have stumbled across the same problem with my CS2.
As it happens i have been pondering the upgrade to CS3 for a while but i am concerned that my nearly 3 year old PC [XP Pro P4,3.2GHz, 2GB Ram, CS2, C13.7.4] will be a little strained under the pressure.
So my question is - how much more processor intensive and memory intensive is CS3 compared to CS2?
Cheers

Importing problems (hi 8 camera-capture device-imovie)
i am importing from an old canon es3000 hi-8 (analog) camera, through a miglia "director's cut" capture device, to imovie (via firewire) ... there is fragmented line at the bottom of the frame in imovie during import. will that show up in idvd later? also, the imovie is not seperating the clips, so i end up with one long clip. after about 10 minutes the digital footage in imovie becomes fragmented throughout the frame. does anybody know why this is happening? thanks in advance, R.B.

Problems importing from Compact Flash cards shot on Canon 5D Mark ll
On my first attempt at importing footage from the Canon 5D Mark ll, but I've not been able to do so. I'm using FCP 7 and I downloaded the Canon Log & Transfer plug-in. I followed the instructions on Canon's website exactly, but when I get to the stage where I need to pick a preference and try to pick 'Canon EOS,' when I click 'OK,' nothing happens. The clips just don't show up.
I know the clips are there as I can view them on the 5D and I was able to import them automatically into Aperture. However, I don't know how to do the necessary transcoding once they're imported into Aperture instead of FCP.
Anything obvious that I may be doing wrong? Are you importing them directly from the camera card or from Aperture?
If from Aperture I had a similar problem with the 5D movies after I had imported them into Aperture and deleted everything off my card (I presume this is what you may have done)
The problem is that you need the associated .THM files that are created when you shoot a video on the 5d. These are the same name as the movie file but with the THM extension rather than .MOV.
What I did was:
Create a folder structure on your hard drive that mirrors the structure on your camera:- ie
DCIM
EOS5D
Export all your .mov files from A3 into the EOS5D folder.
You then need to recreate a THM file for each of the .mov files and they have to have exactly the same name apart from the extension.
You can simply copy a THM file from your camera card and then just rename it. Repeat the process for each .mob file
Once you have done that you should be able to find the files, point to the DCIM folder however.
I had to do 270 of them and created a work flow in Automator to make it a bit faster.
However as the the metadata for the clip is contained in the THM file you will lose all that.
Trick is in the future to ensure that you don't rely on A3 for importing your movie files if you want to get them into FCP (or other software I presume). Do an exact copy of the card file structure and files onto your HD iof you want to import later.

Hi. Im new here and I have a problem. The problem doesn´t involve Aperture but I thought that this might be the area to find a guru to help me. If anyone know a better forum to post this question in I´d be happy to know where.
I use DPP 2.0.3 and EOS capture 1.5.0.8 on a Powerbook 17" G4 1,67 1GB. The camera are 1Ds Mark II.
The problem are that after som pictures taken with EOS Capture everything gets very slow. Everything works, all the pictures end up in the powerbook but it takes a long while.
I had a 12" before and did not have this problem. But that one didn´t run in tiger.
Are Tiger and EOS Capture a bad combo?
Regards/JohanHi all, just got in.
The card in my camera is a Lexar 1000x and a Sandisk card, both 32g.
The files (raw images) are fine when I veiw them in ACDsee Pro
And when I bring them into Photoshop, they are fine as well.
The only problem I have, is with the EOS utility, and DPP.
I normally process all my image in Photoshop CS6 and don't use DPP.
I was interested in the new interface for DPP so downloaded it and when I opened it up.... well the image posted is what all jpg, raw, tiff and everything else looks like in DPP.
Not sure what the problem is.
Any other suggestions?
Oh and I did recently reformat the Lexar card as I got a err while doing some night photography. I reformated it in the Lexar USB 3 card reader, then in the camera. Still the same problem with EOS utiility quick viewer.
Some of the recent photos on my Flickr stream are images all taken recently with the Lexar 1000x card.

Canon 5d mkIII video file won't import
Curious problem. I've imported about 20 video files that were shot with a Canon 5D MkIII into FCPX (CF camera card>portable drive>FCPX). All of the files, save one, import with no problem. One won't but it plays just fine from the finder. I've run diagnostics on the portable drive and everything passes.
Any ideas?
Thanks.I have the 5D mk iii and have not experienced this problem. I drag the files from the CF card onto a dedicated partition on a drive (contains nothing else, only my .mov files for import into FCP X).
I then launch FCP X and it recognises the drive as a camera and I use Camera Import (Cmd+i) to mark my in and out points and import.
Works every time for me.
Alternatively (on this occasion) try using an App like MPEG Streamclip (free) to convert the clip to ProRes 422.

I am having problems importing to my Ipod nano via windows 8. I usually do this from a windows 7 computer and have had no problems; hoever in windows 8 I can only see items purchased in the Itunes store. I do not have access to my entire library, which includes song uploaded from CDs and some videos. As a result, I'm having problems uploading any new items from CDs or DVDs. The computer with windows 8 is an authorized computer, so I don't understand why I'm having the problem.

Because I have taken over 9,999 images, my phone is now duplicating image numbers. The problem is that Image Capture now imports BOTH images when I select the new ones that share numbers with old ones. The images were completely mixed when they showed up in Image Capture - Old image 0001, new image 0001, old image 0002, new image 0002 and so forth. I clicked on "date," which then rearraged the images, and I selected only the new ones, but when they actually import to my computer BOTH old and new images are importing. Has anyone figured out how to solve this problem?
Well, obviously all I needed to do to solve the problem was to post about it. It has stopped, so all is well!

Problems importing pix into my 2.5 quad 8 gigs ram, Canon Rebel xt
I have the newest firmware available...I have imported before...only had problems with raw...now it seems that I am haveing problems importing anything. Aperture was better when it first came out but it seems that every update degrades my ability to import...I am now in the position of having to use my horrible PC to read my cameras card (that my mac isn't able to read...amizingly) and then trasfer the files to my mac via my network!
Imagion my pain!!!!
John IIForget trying to modify the plist file, it is done automatically with OS upgrades. What is the extension name you get from the camera, for raw is should be .cr2. If you double-click the filename in finder it sould be vieweable in Preview. If not then Aperture won't view it either because raw's and camera updates are donw at the OS level. Your on 10.4.6 so i know your camera is supported.
If you can't view raw or jpg files in Preview, then the issue is further-upstream, perhaps at camera level, although if they appear on a pc then its perhaps something wrong in your OS.
Can you see the images in Preview ?
