Problems in chatroom and running slow

I regularly go into a support chat for people with same disabilities, the chatroom is called 'parachat'. It has 3 windows one with peoples names in, the main chat room and the bit where you type then rest of background is olive green colour.
Recently though on my iBook the 3 windows will suddenly fill in the same colour as the background so cant see what people are saying and i have to type something and send it into room then it clears, all the buttons disappear (change font etc) till you run cursor over where the bar was. Also when I'm typing i will look up and the text is miles behind and i have to wait for what I have just typed to appear on the screen.
It doesnt do this when I'm in chatroom on the iMac, and didn't do it before on iBook its just a recent thing am I running out of space or memory or something?
How do I do stuff like disk fragmenting and seeing how much of drive i have used on the mac? (I was windows user before so dont know where to find stuff on mac).
The ibook is running OS X 10.3.9 and is 366mhz, 192mb I've taken off OS9 to free up space as it originally came with both OS loaded on it and also removed firefox 2 and just using safari on iBook. It seems to be taking longer to start up and load pages etc too and just seems to be going slower in general.
I just need it to work so i can use it to chat from in bed at night and check email , any tips on how to improve performance and speed please?
Lastly, if its just getting a old and knackered, do you know of any person or mac supplier who would take it in part exchange for a new macbook?

As I mentioned, I do also have an iMac which is my main desktop computer. Only thing I use clamshell for now is to go into chatroom at night and to check email.
As i said It wasnt doing it before. I previously had windows as my main desktop and was wondering how you do things like disk cleanup and improving performance on the mac?
It is running OS X 10.3.9.
I'm surprised I wouldnt get much for it, I thought they would be collecters items for mac enthusiasts! I would prefer it working though mainly cos i dont want to have to buy a new laptop just to use for a few hours a night in winter mainly and also cos i like the two tone colour of case on the clamshell rather than just white or silver of the newer models!
Personally I'd love a pink Macbook! <hint hint to any apple people reading>

SQL: System locks up and runs slow after performing simple DML record insert

SQL Version: 2008 R2
I am having a serious problem. I ran the following code to perform a simple table record insert which ran successfully. However, after running this code I could no longer access the related table. I couldn't run a query against it.
I tried to delete all the records and that wouldn't work either. When attempting to run any DML statements (i.e. Select * From vPCCertificateTypes) against this table SQL gets locked up and never returns anything and no error messages. I have
to manually stop the query. Now the entire SQL system is running slow.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. The code I ran to originally insert the records is below.

The problem was an open uncommitted transaction against the table as you suspected. I ran your code and it cleared the transaction. In the past I would intentionally leave our the Commit statement and then if the transaction ran fine, I would
simply highlight and run 'COMMIT' and it would close the transaction. Apparently that is not the correct approach. I'll use your suggested code from now on.

Still not able to use fire fox, Fire fox works in safe mode but then it will freeze up and run slow when i try to use a link. All my drivers ect are up to date.

My Fire Fox will only open in xp sp1 but then it will run slow and freeze up when i try to view a link, i have just about given up with this problem as i have tried every thing that might fix this problem.

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
If this doesnt work, may you please reply and respond with a list of things you have tried.

Virus on mac mini and running slow

My mac mini is running slow. Takes a while to open apps and sometimes does not open and I have to restart.

IMac starts up slow and runs slow in general

Problem with installing and running some applications or drivers

When installing and installing some items, towards the end of the installation I get this message:
/System/Library/Extensions/comcy_driver_USBDevice.kext
*was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it or contact product's vendor for update*
The end result is that some things do not seem to work properly, such as my HP printer. Would anybody have any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Since then, when downloading upgrades etc, such as HP printer drivers, iTunes etc., towards the end of the download when its running the script, I get this message: /System/Library/Extensions/comcy_driver_USBDevice.kext

Sometimes, the download hangs and is unable to complete. The main problem I've encountered so far with an application is when I use the printer to scan an image via Preview, it's blank: there's nothing there.

Problem with checkbox and run the get button event continuously

Hi all,
I have a checkbox list of 3 sensors. I have used the X-Control (for checkbox) found in the following link for my application https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-30558. I have problems to achieve the following.
Suppose i check Vibration and Strain, I should be able to display both Vibration and Strain data. (I should compare each element of 1d array with the string constant and run the case structure).
I have to run the GET event continuously to display the data.
I have attached the code to the post.
Please can anyone suggest how to go about this.

The link you have posted seem to work with LV2013. I am currently using LV 2011. Can you please update it to 2011. Is OpenG necessary for this?

Equium A100 getting hot and running slow

Hi
Please excuse me I'm new but i have a Toshiba A100 and lately its been getting really hot and begins to run slow.
I was wondering if anyone could help me fix this?
Also when i look through the bottom i noticed that the small fan is not spinning.

Usually, if the notebook was registered on the Toshiba website then the warranty should be valid two years long.
You ask if the fan replacement is difficult.
So I have to say; YES.
Why?
Well, as far as I know you have to disassemble the whole notebook the get the access to the cooling modules
In such case all parts must be removed in the right order and this is not easy and really tricky without any manuals and further notebook experience
I think you should contact the ASP in your country for an notebook check.
This would be the best for your machine

Late 2011 macbook pro getting hot and running slow, any ideas?

In the last week my macbook pro has been getting very hot (too hot to rest on knees) and sometimes running slow. It will often cool down after a while but the fan seems to be running more frequently as well. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Problem with execution and running a Java program

I have downloaded the jdk-1_5_0_05-windows-i586-p.exe and installed it on my PC.A folder Java has been created.Now,I need an editor in order to type the program,execute it and run it.I have a shell named Cygwin which includes the nano editor.I copied the folder Java into the cygwin folder C:\cygwin\home\user\Java.
I open the shell.Do the following steps:

Macbook pro lagging and running slow

My macbook pro has been running very slow lately, no matter what program I am using, and sometimes it freezes with the spinning beachball. I'd like to take steps to make it run faster, it's current speed is painful.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

Mac stalls and runs slow in basement

Our iMac worked fine in the kitchen when it was plugged into the modem. We remodeled and put the iMac in the basement as a wireless. It runs really slow (takes 5-10 minutes to get to site) and stalls. I bought an Airport Extreme and an Airport Express thinking that would take care of the problem...it didn't. What can I do?

As seventy one says, an ethernet connection may be best. If running an ethernet cable from the router to the basement is not easy, you can look at using PowerLine ethernet adaptors, that will use your homes electrical wiring to route the ethernet signals from the router to the basement.
You could try moving your WiFi router to a location which is closer to the basement location for the iMac, even as an experiment to see if that improves WiFi reception.
I assume the Airport Express was being used as a WiFi extender. Choose a location for the Airport Express that is half way between the Airport Extreme and the iMac, so that the Airport Express has a better chance of getting strong signal, and then retransmitting a strong signal to the iMac. Experiment with different Airport Express locations both on the same floor as the Airport Extreme and in the basement.
