Problems installing Distiller job options

A customer has supplied their job options for web, but they will not install, I get the message:
Error in Library/Application Support/Adobe.Adobe PDF/Settings/abcweb.joboptions:/CompatibilityLevel out of range
Does anyone have any idea what this error relates to?

It could be corrupted, and might need to be created again. Or, they may have made choices which are incompatible with Distiller.
You should probably post a copy of the .joboptions file so we can test it out.

  • Adding distiller job option in invokeDDX

    Hi,
We have configured combined pdf using invokeDDx and its working perfectly.
This watch folder will convert multiple PDF's to Single PDF and also converting multiple .PS to single PDF.
Is there is any option in InvokeDDX to fetch "Distiller joboption" so that the .PS should reflect the "joboption".

    Shaji,
Not that I am aware of. However, PDF Generator does use the same job options as Acrobat (ES 2.5 uses Acrobat 9 and ADEP uses Acrobat X). See Administrator UI > Settings > PDF Generator > Adobe PDF Settings.

  • How to add/change Job Options when saving a FrameMaker document as a PDF using Acrobat 9

If you are logged on as a domain user you could have a problem if you want to add or edit .joboption files in Distiller 9 when it is opened by FrameMaker.
After installing Acrobat 9 the action of saving a FrameMaker document as a PDF automatically starts Distiller 9 which then uses the "Job Options" files that are located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings. Unless some changes have been made to the "Security" settings of the "Adobe" folder and the "Adobe PDF" folder under "All Users" it will not be possible to add or edit ".joboption" files in the "Settings" folder located in that "Adobe PDF" folder.
This can be confusing because when Distiller 9 is started separately, from Programs, it then uses the job options located in your own user folder (C:\Documents and Settings\NLPW\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings). In your own user folder (in my case: NLPW) you can add or edit the job option files.
In order to be able to add or edit job option files under "All Users" you must be included in the "All Users" list and have the appropriate "Permissions" security setting. To set this, right click on the "Adobe" folder (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe) and select "Properties", then click on the "Security" tab and add yourself to the list. Finally, (important) check the "Full Control" box under "Allow" in the permissions field. Repeat this procedure on the "Adobe PDF" folder (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF). Now you have the ability to add or edit ".joboption" files located in the "Settings" folder and these will be available when Distiller is started by FrameMaker.

Thank you so much for that tip. I don’t have exactly the same set-up (FrameMaker 8, Acrobat 8 Professional), but changing the permissions as you describe fixed the problem of not being able to save or change Distiller job options which has been bothering me for a while.

  • Error message in customizing Distiller's job options settings

I'm trying to customize job options settings in Distiller 8.1.0. I'm on Mac OS 10.4.9, and taking postscript files created in Quark 6.0 to Distiller to create PDFs. I have vendors who have provided settings and I want to transfer those specific customized settings from Distiller 6.0 standard to Distiller 8.1.0 professional.
If I try to customized 8.1's presets, I get the message "An error occurred trying to save the job options." Has anyone run into this error or this situation?

I ran into the same problem. If I try and save the settings file to a different location than the Settings folder (which is located under User_Home\Library\Application Support\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings\)
then it actually works. But if you try and save to the Settings folder it will not save and gives you the error. This only happens with non-administrator users. If you try with an administrator account it saves fine. I checked the folder settings for permissions and changed it to read and write for all groups and it still gives the same error (the default setting is read and write for the user). I also tried updating to 8.1.1 but it does not touch Distiller with that update. I have tried deleting the Settings folder and recreating it this does not work. What did work was a mistake on my part but it worked. I deleted the Settings folder before closing Distiller and tried saving. It saved the settings file in the original Settings folder which was in the trash! I pulled the folder out and the setting file was in it. This means there is some kind of permissions issue with Distiller and not just the OS I think. Just so you know I did do a permissions repair before I tried all of this.
The only solution right now for people who can't save to that folder is to save it to a different location and then adding the settings file to your settings folder User_Home\Library\Application Support\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings\
One other thing to note. Version 8.0.0 does not do this. It only happens after updating to 8.1.0
I did this in 10.4.9 and also 10.5.1

  • Open distiller with job option from indesign

    Hi,
I m doing script for creating pdf from indesign using javascript, upto creating post script there is no problem,
For time being  i used "execute()" for generating pdf from ps.
But my recuirement is i need to open distiller and ps should run prefered job option what i m specifying in my coding
Is it possible to open distiller from my indesign javascript?
    Please let me know.

Hi Andreas Weiden and thank you for you rapid answer.
I don't think that is a good idea, because the same form ( Y ) is used by other users who can insert, update and delete data from this form.
If i do what you suggested, that will restrict the I-U-D options on the form properties, so for all the users.
    Another idea ?
    Many Thanks..

    Hi voltric2014,
If you are on Windows, you can download and install the CreatePDF Desktop Printer, which would allow you to "print" to PDF from Word. You'll find a link to the installer on the CreatePDF page at https://cloud.acrobat.com. Here are the instructions for installing it: Using Adobe PDF Pack
Please let us know if you have additional questions.

  • New Job Options Not Showing in Distiller Settings

Was wondering if anyone can help, I use Pagemaker and Acrobat 7 (I know, old but it suits my needs fine!). I've found that the graphics in my PDFs are being downscaled too much, making them appear quite blurry. The strange thing is no matter what Job Option I use they all look the same.
I've tried adding new Job Options but whilst they save to the appropriate folder, the new settings do not appear in the distiller settings drop-down menu (the one generated from PM7). The stranger thing is that when I open Distiller independently the new job options are there.
When I 'print' to a postscript file at 200dpi and convert that to PDF they are fine but it's obviously more time consuming.
    Can anyone help?

    Yes...  garym11 is right ..

  • Missing Job Options

Sorry if this has been asked before, but a search does not seem to turn up much.
I'm missing job options on Adobe Distiller 9 Pro. Here are my stats:
    G5 1.8ghz, 4gb RAM OSX 10.4.11.
    Acrobat 9.1.3 Pro
We just purchased this upgrade yesterday, downloaded and installed. Previously we had Acrobat 6.0 Pro. My problem is that anytime I start Adobe Distiller I get only two joboptions: PDFX1a 2001.joboptions and PDFX3 2002.joboptions.
All other joboptions do not show. I can see the rest of the job options in the following location: Macintosh HD>Library>Application Support>Adobe>Adobe PDF>Settings
I have tried fixing/changing permissions. I have tried deleting this folder. When I delete, Adobe Distiller recreates all job options, but I still cannot see more than the 2 previously mentioned job options. I can delete the following folder which Adobe Distiller recreates: Macintosh HD>Users>~username>Library>Application Support>Adobe>Adobe PDF>Settings. This folder is empty when created. I can copy job options to that folder; Adobe Distiller still only sees 2 job options.
When saving a new job option in to either location I get an error. If I save to the desktop and copy into either location Adobe Distiller will then recognize the new job option. Someone else on another forum had  a similar issue which is how I was able to find out that I could save and move.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to force Adobe Distiller to recognize these missing joboptions? I would really rather not have to recreate them if I don't have to.
Additional info that I think may be pertinent to this:
I suspect that this is a permissions issue related to the following: My user account is a network account. We have a Windows 2003 SBS server running Active Directory. Our usernames (and therefore shortnames) are standard. First Name period Last Name. Ie., Erik.Youngren   I have Acrobat 9 Pro installed on my PB G4, but my user account here is a local account with no period in the shortname. No issues on the PB.
But if this is the case, why would Distiller then see the newly created joboptions when copied into the Settings folders?
    I'm out of ideas!

Well. For anyone else who may run across this issue. Further googling came up with someone else's issue on Windows, whereby installing Acro 9 while earlier versions of Acrobat were still on the HD led to incompleteness and instability.
Actually. That's a windows only thing. You can run all the versions you want on a Mac.
The fix must have had something to do with the reinstall.
Actually, there is one exception Graf.
if you have multiple versions of Acrobat installed, you may run into a problem where two or more copies of the AdobePDF Driver file installed. The problem stems from the fact because of the way Adobe names the AdobePDF with such names as AdobePDF 7.123 and adobePDF 8.056 and so on it has a a unique name and therefore is added to Print driver list. But when its shown in the Printer list you have something like :
    AdobePDF 9.0
    AdobePDF 8.0
    HEWLET-PACKARD DESKJET 990CSE
    LABELWRITER 400
the problem arises in regardless of which one you choose you end up making double copies of the PDF. I've had this happen to myself.
the cure is to remove any and all versions of AdobePDF from Printer Utility, then Open the newest version of acrobat and have it repair installation. (Install the Adobe PDF Driver).
All older versions can use the newer version because it has all the new features plus all the old features. However, while an older version may work any features that came out after will not work.

    Hi Gabe,
First, please check the suggestion above is helpful. I also suggest you removing all version of Office and re-install Office 2013.
We can try to run the application as an administrator and check if it works.
     1. Right click the shortcut of the application or the main application.
     2. Select properties.
     3. Select compatibility tab and select "Run this program as an administrator."

I am trying to install the printer driver for my HP Laserjet p1102w (hplip-3.10.9.run).  The program starts then stops with the error "TabError:  inconsistent use of tabs and spaces in indentatiion".   I did some research,  but it could not resolve the issue. I think it has something to do with the way python handles tabs?? I did not have any problem installing this on my Fedora 13 desktop. Not sure how to proceed.

  • Problem installing Windows (7, 8.0, 8.1) on BOOTCAMP - Mavericks

    Hallo guys,
First I want to say thanks a lot to Christopher Murphy, because one and a half years ago I was having problems the same like the 1st post on that topic and with the instructions from Christopher I was able to get back my BOOTCAMP with Windows 7. Now I think that the commands from the 1st post changed something that is making my current problem appear. All was working like a charm till few days ago when I was get a decision to update to Mavericks.
Previously I was with Mountain Lion 10.8 and with Windows 7 on Bootcamp. The hardware is iMac Late 2010 27'' with 1Tb SATA HDD.
Few days ago I have deleted the BOOTCAMP partition and resized the disk to only 1 partition (with Bootcamp wizzard). Then I made a boot usb stick with Mavericks and then started the installation of Mavericks from my USB Stick. I have deleted all partitions and created a new one when the installation asked me to choose a partition. So everything was fine and Mavericks is ok and working great. Now the problematic part.
I have created a Bootable USB Stick with Windows 8.1 first. I used some windows program to made it which I was using before and never had a problems on normal Computers (PC, not Apple) to boot and installing that windows from the same USB Flash Stick and the same Windows 8.1 and so on. I started Bootcamp Wizzard on my new Mavericks and than I notice that I have only 2 options there:
    1. Download drivers
    2. Install windows 7 or later version
I have already the bootcamp software support drivers downloaded before and I have leave only the second tick checked.
I tried to press Continue, but the Wizzard told me that it doesn't recognize a Windows DVD and cannot continue. Asked me to insert a Windows DVD and to continue.
Now it's time to say that my DVD device is not working and I cannot use it.
So I was thinking that the problem is coming from my USB Stick and tried few other programs to make a bootable usb stick with windows. That doesn't help.
I started to read and googling the internet. I tried few options from some guys with a close problems. Reset with Options+CMD+P+R, to format USB Stick fully etc. Then I found that if I install daemon tools and mount a Windows 8.1 ISO the Bootcamp Assistant will continue on the next step and will build the BOOTCAMP partition. I made that and restarted the computer with the USB Stick plugged in. I got a message that there're no system disk and to insert one and to press any key to continue (or something like this). Then I made a hard restart and tried to hold the ALT (Option) key after the startup chime. I got the list of bootable devices, but the usb stick wasn't there Only Mavericks partition and HD Recovery one. Tried few more things with no luck.
Then I found a topic where a few guys explaining how to get the 1st option on Bootcamp Wizzard (Create a Windows 7 or later version install disk). I changed the plist file in Bootcamp Assistant, then signed the app with xcode tools and yahoo, I got that option enabled.
I made again a bootable usb stick with windows 8.1 from ISO with the Bootcamp Assistant 1st option. Then when I restarted the Mac keeping the ALT pressed it was a surprise that the USB stick with windows 8.1 showed up. I started Windows 8.1 setup, entered the serial number and then I selected the BOOTCAMP partition and the Next button wasn't active and error message was written that:
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks."
I tried format, delete partition, create new etc with no luck. Then I tried to recreate the bootcamp partition with Disk Utility, but with ExtFAT format and again no luck. I found another topic on internet where some guys are talking that only Windows 7 can be installed in that way on Mavericks BOOTCAMP. I don't know that this is true or not, but I tried with Windows 8.1, Windows 8.0 and now I'm going to get a Windows 7 from a friend these days, but I don't think that it will work.
Is there someone who can help me out somehow or to tell me some tips or opinions what to do next?
    Here are few infos:

Looks perfect with the Free Space. You can verify this by running sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0.
If you try the EFI boot, please pick this Free Space slot, and it will get split into a 128MB MSR and the remainder as NTFS, if the installer finishes successfully. You may be able to install, but a preUEFI model cannot use the MSR to boot the main Windows partition, but a UEFI compliant machine can.
On a Late 2013 15" rMBP (which is UEFI compliant), this is what Bootcamp on GPT looks like. (Notice GPT#4 - MSR and GPT#5 - NTFS).
