  • Problem installing Oracle 9.2 on RedHat Linux 7.1 and 9.0

    Hi everyone,
    As the subject line says, I tried installing Oracle 9.2 on
    RedHat Linux 7.1 and 9.0, strictly following instructions
    written by Werner Puschitz
    (http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle9i.shtml). Both
    attempts failed with identical symptoms:
    - the installer asks for Disk 2
    - after the disk is inserted, it hangs. It turns out that
    kernel is writing messages similar to these in
    /var/log/messages:
    Jun 16 02:45:19 boston kernel: 16:00: rw=0, want=317696, limit=149920
    Jun 16 02:45:19 boston kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device
    Unless interrupted, this continues until the /tmp filesystem gets full.
    Has anyone experienced this? I haven't been able to find
    an explanation so far.
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Ljubomir Buturovic

    Providing a thread-bare configuration of your machine on which you are trying to install Oracle on Linux (and mind you - which kernel/distro, coz that's important) would definitely help you elicit more responses to your messages.

  • Problem installing EPM 10 add-in against office 2010 x64

    I have tried installing both SP3 and SP4 of the epm10 add-in on a 64-bit server running office 2010 64-bit. The addin will not load.
    The add-in installs by default to the Program Files (x86) directory, so it seems like maybe this is due to the add-in being a 32-bit application.
    However, BPC 10 supports 64-bit office. Is there a way to get the add-in to load into 64-bit excel?
    thanks,
    Tony DeStefanis

    Hi John,
    Thank you. I think the following statement in the
    Master Guide
    SAP BusinessObjects Planning and Consolidation 10.0
    Version for the Microsoft platform
    on page 10-11:
    The following platforms are supported:Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition or 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition·
    Microsoft Office 2003, 2007(32 bit), or 2010 (32 or 64 bit)
    is misleading, since it indicates that BPC 10 MS supports Office 2010 x64. Since BPC 10 relies on the EPM add-in for end-user functionality, it cannot support x64 version of office 2010.
    Will the EPM add-in be updated in the future to support x64 office 2010?

  • Problem installing App Server 8.1 on Linux

    I've got App server 8.1 that came with a Messaging Server bundle. I tried installing on a new machine, and it wouldn't go through with the full configuation at the time of install, so I took the "configure later" option.
    I'm now trying to manually configure and start the App server, which usually is in /var/opt/sun/appserver/bin.
    However, there's nothing in there except a PointBase directory, and there's no installer file for the appserver in /opt/sun. Anyone know where the manual installer script for the app server gets kept?

    Okay - it looks like I've found the answer to my own question, unless anyone has a better answer:
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2328/6n4khb8jl?a=view
    This document goes over the post-install instructions for Sun Java Application server. It assumes you were able to run the installer, and then choose the "configure now" option to enter in all of the values right then and there for the install.
    If you choose the "configure later" option, and don't enter in all of the server values right there, you are pretty much up a creek as I've found no way to actually do the post-install after this. There is literally no executible which does this.
    The only thing I was able to do that worked was to try (and fail) to run the uninstall script, and then -- when that bombed out and wouldn't actually un-install everything, I did an rpm -qa | grep sun-, and then on EVERYTHING in that list, I did an rpm -e to remove it. That finally worked and allowed me to re-run the install.
    Does anyone else have better advice on this one?

  • Problem installing Sun JES 5u1 on OpenSolaris (snv_b77 x86)

    We have a new X4600 server dedicated to tests of the latest Sun-related software stack we could get our hands on to build a demo-installation of "the newest" for a customer, so we installed it with OpenSolaris (snv_b77 was the most recent back then).
    After doing the needed tests, we decided to see how the Sun JES behaves with a recent Solaris. We have many Sun JES projects (dating back from Portal 6.0 and JES 2003Q4, JES 4 and 5/5u1); and since Solaris 10u2 (6/06) we host them in zones of a "minimalistically" configured server (approx 270 packages).
    When I tried to repeat a similar approach with OpenSolaris (snv_b77) and Sun JES 5u1, the Orion(?) installer behaved differently than on Solaris 10u3 or 10u4. In particular, there are less choice options in Directory Server (i.e. no Directory Proxy Server at all), and a dozen lines in High Availability services (HA for this and HA for that, albeit "Unsupported in zones").
    The bigger problem is that the installer doesn't succeed in installing some packages (Cacao, mfwk, jdmk) and configuring the products. I could manually register some of the CACAO components and get a working pair of Directory Server and DPS, now I'm fighting with the Application Server.
    What's sad, I don't have to do these tricks with any recent Solaris 10 server we've had set up.
    The root of the problem seems to be that the system identifies as "SunOS 5.11" and the installer doesn't seem to support that (installation goes on with a stacktrace that classes for 5_11 could not be found). Example:
    PSPERR:++++++++++++++++++++++++++ {Missing Resource Exception in the loading of the PkgRelativePaths{Can't find bundle for base name com.sun.entsys.installer.common.resources.PkgRelativePaths5_11, locale en}}
    I made a wrapper script for /sbin/uname which replaces "5.11" with "5.10" and linked "Solaris_11" to "Solaris_10" directories in the unpacked distribution, but these steps did not help.
    Does anybody know of tricks required to fool the installer to work in "Solaris_10" mode regardless of the system? Changing programs to wrappers, or replacing /etc/release and similar files are okay - the setup is in a zone dedicated to one task.
    Or is there a newer Sun JES beta release which does not need such fooling? :)

    I had the same problem this evening on b81, and have had the problem in the past but didn't care long enough to look at it. I do care tonight because I need to use B81 with Crossbow, so as I have VNIC support.
    I've spent some time figuring it out (thanks to truss + find) and I've found a way that sorts the issue. You need not rename directories (in fact, this will break it in my experience).
    NOTE: Seeing as you've mucked around with directories and so on, unzip a fresh copy of JES.
    NOTE: Sun probably don't want you to do this and it is unsupported, do so at your own peril.
    Run the installer (I've used text mode):
    Unable to access a usable display on the remote system. Continue in command-line mode?(Y/N)
    Y
    Once you say "Y", I've found it goes off creates a directory called /tmp/.entsys_CaChE
    Inside this directory you will find the following seemingly relevant files:
    ./Solaris_x86/.install/config/PPXMLS/Clusters/EntsysCluster_SUNOS_SPARC_5_10.xml
    ./Solaris_x86/.install/config/PPXMLS/Clusters/EntsysCluster_SUNOS_X86_5_10.xml
    ./Solaris_x86/.install/config/PPXMLS/Clusters/OrionCluster_SUNOS_SPARC_5_10.xml
    ./Solaris_x86/.install/config/PPXMLS/Clusters/OrionCluster_SUNOS_X86_5_10.xml
    ./Solaris_x86/.install/config/com/sun/entsys/installer/common/resources/PkgRelativePaths5_10.properties
    In another terminal window, copy the relevant files for your platform to the same file but with 5_11 instead of 5_10
    cd /tmp/.entsys_CaChE
    cp ./Solaris_x86/.install/config/PPXMLS/Clusters/EntsysCluster_SUNOS_X86_5_10.xml ./Solaris_x86/.install/config/PPXMLS/Clusters/EntsysCluster_SUNOS_X86_5_11.xml

    Then continue the installer as normal.
    Then you should get to here:

    Java binaries are under /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.6.0-sun.x86_64/bin/java and while installing the installer picked the Local Sun JDK as Sun SDK 1.6.0_31(/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-sun-1.6.0.31.x86-64).
    I had the issue while starting the Quick start as well with uninstallation ... B'cos the it is looking the binaries underneath SUN SDK... instead under /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.6.0-sun.x86_64/bin/java.
    If I change the directories manually in both files, I was able to start the quick start successfully. I don't want to change that manually.
    here are the details:
    which java
    /usr/bin/java
    ls -ltr /usr/bin/java
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 Apr 9 19:46 /usr/bin/java -> /etc/alternatives/java
    ls -ltr /etc/alternatives/java
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 42 Apr 9 19:46 /etc/alternatives/java -> /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.6.0-sun.x86_64/bin/java
    ls -ltr /usr/lib/jvm/
    total 12
    drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Apr 9 19:46 java-1.6.0-sun-1.6.0.29
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 25 Apr 9 19:46 jre-sun -> /etc/alternatives/jre_sun
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 Apr 9 19:46 jre-1.6.0 -> /etc/alternatives/jre_1.6.0
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 21 Apr 9 19:46 jre -> /etc/alternatives/jre
    drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Apr 9 19:46 java-1.6.0-sun-1.6.0.30
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 Apr 9 19:46 jre-1.6.0-sun -> java-1.6.0-sun-1.6.0.30/jre
    drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Apr 9 19:46 java-1.6.0-sun-1.6.0.31.x86_64
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 34 Apr 9 19:46 jre-1.6.0-sun.x86_64 -> java-1.6.0-sun-1.6.0.31.x86_64/jre
    I have include the PATHS in the JAVA_HOME which doesn't work as well.
    Here the SDK is pointing to /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-sun-1.6.0.31.x86_64
    and java binaries is pointing to /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.6.0-sun.x86_64/bin/java
    Please advise me .

    Hi Kalyan,
    By downloading the Java into local directory has partially worked. But It wouldn't let me uncheck the Oracle coherence while doing the custom installation as well.
    I have few more questions on the oracle quick start .
    Some times I ran into issue like "NO VALLID BROWSER FOUND" while entering the password. it wouldn't let me enter. (I ran into this new issue today)
    In others.
    Configure the Managed server
    If I click on add button, by default it is giving the name as "new_ManagedServer_1"
    Does it allow me to change the name in the configure managed server.
    How about Configure clusters and configure machines - Here I don't want configure any clusters. Configure machines (I would like to configure it later).
    At the end I got 2 URLS for Admin server.
    Can you please answer these questions ?
    Or if you have the doc for this, can you please share with me ?If you are willing I can give E-mail id .
    Thanks,

  • Problem installing SAP Netweaver 7 ABAP trail - Reboot Dialog Box prompts

    Hi,
    i was trying to install the SAP Netweaver 7 ABAP Trail version. i successfully configured the Mslookup Adapter.
    After that, when i click the installer, it checked for the java virtual machine and then prompted the following message
    The installer had to update some MicroSoft runtime libraries.
    For correct operation, a system reboot is required. Do you want to reboot now?
    i choose yes and then it rebooted. Then again when i start the installer, it asks for reboot. If i click no, it terminates the installation. I'm fed up with this.. Can someone help me out of this ?
    regards

    Please also read the install documentation. This has been noted as a requirement for oracle-xe (you need one more lib ;) ) This also helps you setup your DB, etc, etc.
