Problems Installing Family Tree Maker for MAC (2010)

I am new to MAC so don't know too much yet. I just installed a new geneology program "FTW for MAC" and it appears to have installed correctly. When I open it, I see a box stating that I am not connected to the internet, or a firewall is blocking it. However, the software updates download and so I am clearly on the internet. Once I download the update it says "install and relaunch" but when I do, it doesn't re-open the program and gives me an error report. I called the makers of the software "ancestry.com" but they can't seem to solve the problem.

The developer is trying to "pass the buck." IMHO, your problem has nothing to do with Apple software - the software developer needs to make changes. Besides, you have reinstalled OS X 10.9 (which is almost always unnecessary). I would not accept an "its Apple's problem" from your software developer.

  • What has caused an app I purchased (Family Tree Maker for Mac) and currently have installed, to disappear from the Mac Store. Does this mean it is no longer sold?  If so, how will I get update notices or re-download if needed?

I purchased and installed Family Tree Maker for Mac from the App Store about 6 months ago.  I heard that possibly a new version was coming, though I had not received any update notice.  I went to the App Store and it no longer shows the app, either as available for purchase or as an app I have previously purchased.  So I can't get any information on the app, support, etc..  How can an app I have purchased disappear from the purchased list???  How can I get update information or support links? (contacted FTM website and phone support and they said if I bought my program from App store, I have to get update information there).....the Update Info button in my program is actually greyed out!!  So the program I bought doesn't even have the normal update link!!  I thought one of the advantages of App Store purchase was being able to redownload the program in the unlikely event it was lost....ie: no need to worry about having the install CD.  So now I only have my installed, operating copy and no way to reinstall if it crashes due to corrupt data, etc.!!  Not a happy result from an App Store purchase!  And I must say the circular references in the support link are frustarting...apparently there is NO live support for the App Store itself!

Thanks for THAT tip: iTunes acct. history DOES show my (few) Mac app purchases, buried in with my MANY iPhone and iPad apps!  So I CAN prove I bought it (7 months ago, not 6), but you wouldn't know it from the App Store app on my Mac!  But that does leave a few other ?'s hanging: like how could I download it again, or check for updates (as I said, the version installed has the "update" button greyed out!  Ancestry.com (who sells it online and support it for other buyers said update info for App Store purchasers comes through the App Store.
I may just be out of luck with this because after 7 months of ownership, they (Ancestry) just replaced FTM with a new version (Family Tree Maker for Mac2) that is NOT an upgrade (though prior owners get $4.00 off on a $52.00 purchase!!).  I'll probably just plump for that....direct from Ancestry.com...and give up on the Mac App Store, because the new version reportedly has major enhancements in sync-ing your family history record between your computer and the cloud program available online.  Genealogy software, like everything else is migrating to the cloud, but one really does need a resident program on their device because you're often collecting data "in the field" in libraries, historical archives, cemeteries, etc. where you really can't get online in many cases.  Fortunately, more and more of the source data is coming online, so more and more can be done from home!

  • Problem Installing Adobe Flash Player for Mac Air (Yosemite)

I got a message saying my Adobe Flash Player was out of date. This seemed strange because I'd been accessing videos within the last hour with no problems. I went ahead and opened the Mac version installer downloaded of the Adobe site. The install started and after inputting an Admin password, the download reached 25% almost immediately. Unfortunately, it's been stuck at 25% since then. I've tried starting over, deleting the download and re-downloading the update with no success. I've also temporarily disabled my AdBlock and AdBlock Plus. I tried to uninstall AFP so I could start over but the box that's supposed to tell me what uninstaller version to download has an error message saying I need to update AFP.
    How can I fix this?
Edit: I thought maybe I was downloading an AFP for an earlier OS (I'm running 10.10.2). I made sure to download the latest version of AFP for Mac possible. The install is now stuck at 30%. (Just to be clear, I downloaded the install package with no problem - the issue is with the install program itself pausing at 30%.)
Edit 2: I figured out which uninstall package I needed (using this page: Uninstall Flash Player | Mac OS) but upon reinstalling AFP, it's stuck again at 25% of download.
Edit 3: The message "Connection failed. Trying to reconnect" has appeared, followed quickly by "connection failed". Guess I'll try again.

I've double-checked to make sure that I've selected "Allow Internet Plug-ins" under Safari>Preferences>Security. I've read in other threads that this is one possible solution but it isn't useful to me since I've uninstalled AFP and but I've been unable to reinstall it.
Edit: I'm not sure if Youtube is supported by a different software package but I can watch any videos on that site with no problem.

  • Trying to download Family Tree maker for Mac2

Will not install, error can't open because it is from an unidentified developer. "Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from Mac app store & identified developers.

If nothing else works, Reunion has been available for the Mac for a long time, and yes it is Lion and Mountain Lion compatible:

Online there is also http://www.myheritage.com/ which I like a lot.

  • I have just installed Family Tree Maker 2012. It recommends use of Firefox 3.6, but that doesn't seem to be available from the download page. Is there any way to get this version?

I currently use Chrome as my web browser and am not able to access the Ancestry.com website using it. Every attempt to sync my records fails and the manual suggests use of Internet Explorer or Firefox 3.6 However, the current download available is not 3.6 but appears to be Version 8...? (based on the first question on the Contact Us screen, which relates to having upgraded from 3.6)

    You are welcome :)

  • Hi I am trying to download the family tree maker that i purchased by email onto my ipad however I keep getting the same thing SAFARI CANNOT DOWNLOAD FILE can anyone help me solve this problem thanks.....bebe

Hi i am i have any ipad and i am trying to download family tree maker that i purchased online, but all that keeps co ing up is safari cannot download file can anyone help me .....bebe

I think you are trying to install a computer application to use on an iPad. You can't. They are incompatible pieces of hardware. If you want Family Tree Maker for your iPad, then you need to get that version, if it exists, from the iTunes Store. That download can't be done via Safari.

  • Installing Quicken Essentials for Mac 2010

Quicken Essentials for Mac 2010 does not launch when installation disk is inserted into CD drive.  The CD drive does not recognize the disk, so I cannot drag the icon from the desktop to the Applications folder - any suggestions?

You need to contact the developers (Intuit) to ask for support or you may want to visit an Essentials product forum.

  • Family Tree Maker compatibility with MacBook Pro upgrades

Blessings to those who are able to reply with possible answers.   I am sorry....but I have spent days working on getting my two USB ports to work also.  I basically use the USB ports for a wireless mouse and various flashdrives/memory sticks.  I have a MacBook Pro 2011 Snow Leopard 10.6.8  I have tried software update, SMC and PRAM resets, battery reset, hardware test, creating a new user account....and browsing and reading numerous discussion boards.....awgh!  I have stopped short of using my install DVD (fear of loosing data), upgrading to Lion or Mountain Lion (some fear of loosing an application that might not be compatible  FAMILY TREE MAKER 2010  19.2.1.241), contacting an Apple Store (AppleCare or whatever--live 2 hours away + fear of expense), and of course, trashing the laptop.  Does anyone out there have any possible solutions?   I see I am not alone.  --A frustrated first-time Apple products owner.

Quote below from the Family Tree site:
    System Requirements:
Mac OS X 10.5 or later, including OS X Lion (10.7)
    Intel-based Mac
    DVD Drive
All online features require Internet access.
Since Mountain Lion has not been released, there is no mention of compatibility.

  • Broderbunds Family Tree Maker

Would someone be as kind as to help me convert a file?
I used to have Broderbunds Family tree maker. I made an extensive family tree.
I then exported the family tree as a Gedcom file (i think that is what it was called.)
I purchased Reunion for OS X.
I imported the GedCom file and saved as a Reunion 8 family tree file.
I then threw away my Broderbund Family Tree Marker install disc.
BUT THEN my hard disc crashed.
The last back up of my family tree was in the Classic broderbund Family tree application NOT in Reunion 8 for OS x.
Is there any one out there who would be willing to
a, except my email and attachment.
    b. open it in Broderbund Classic Family tree maker.
    c. export it as a GenCom
    d. email it back to me.
so I can import it into Reunion and not have to start from scratch?
That would be a hugely appreciated favor.
    Thanks

was able to import after creating new family tree file

  • Developer Adobe Flash Player 10.1 r52 embedded in Family Tree Maker 2012 & 2014 - Vulnerability

    Here is the issue.
I have Windows 8.0.  Flash runs fine on the Internet Explorer - no problem.
But I have a third party software company (Family Tree Maker v. 2014) which has a flash .exe file that is outdated and causes a vulnerability (per Kaspersky).
The version of flash embedded in the program is Adobe Flash Player 10.1 r52.  The file name is "Tutorial_PC.exe" and is 6,311 KB.  Under file properties under the Details it states the file version as 10.1.52.14 (also it is the same for Product version).  I also see the original file name as "SAFlashPlayer.exe".
    A Date Modified is 8/5/2011.
Is there not an updated developer version of flash that is secure and doesn't produce vulnerability flags which either I can exchange with this version or Family Tree Maker can rebuild their new software with?
    Thank you
    - vaw

Could it be the standalone Flash Player (Projector)?  Does it play local .swf files?
If so, you can download the latest version from https://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
If indeed your SAFlashPlayer.exe is associated with .swf files, then you need to change the file association to the newly downloaded standalone player.

  • Problems installing windows 8 on a mac

    Hi to all,
I am having problems installing windows 8 on my late 2010 mac book pro. I have created the boot camp partition on the hard drive and have begun the windows 8 install. I have reached the point of where you need to restart the mac and have tried to restart only to find that I can't, so I have pressed the power off button to switch off. Then I press power on and have come to the black screen with the writing no bootable device detected, insert a disc then press any key. I have tried this but nothing happens, I have tried the mac osx disc, and still nothing happens. How do I reboot my mac, anyone????.
    Cheers

    Thanks bob,
I have read elsewhere on the Internet that windows 8 is supported on bootcamp and that it works.
Sometimes yes, often no, but it is unsupported officially so you'll have to live with it.

  • I just installed the new firefox for Mac OSX 10.6.8 and when I select an image on a site (right click and copy) and paste in Photoshop 5.5, the image lightens. It does not do this in Safari.

    Question
I just installed the new firefox for Mac OSX 10.6.8 and when I select an image on a site (right click and copy) and paste in Photoshop 5.5, the image lightens. It does not do this in Safari.

Firefox, Safari, and PhotoShop each handle embedded color profiles differently. For an add-on that makes it easier to experiment with Firefox's color management options, you might be interested in: [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/color-management/ Color Management :: Add-ons for Firefox]. I haven't tried it myself.

  • Problem Saving Files - Elements 6 for Mac

I have recently installed Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac and sometimes -- not always -- am unable to save files once I have made changes to them. I get message " Unable to save as filename.jpg because write access was not granted."
These are my own files! Or copyright free files I have saved from web.
I've been using Elements 5 on my PC and never had this problem.
What can I do about this?

Select your files in question.... / go to File  / Get Info (or command + I) /
Check your Permissions, if it’s set to “Read & Write” ...?
    Regards
    Nolan
