Problems Installing Flex Builder 3

I don't appear to be able to install FB3 on Windows (XP SP3).
When attempting to run the installer (full or plugin), the files
unpack sucessfully, but then the Java Virtual Machine Launcher
throws the error "Could not create the java virtual machine.", and
the installation aborts.
As far as I know my java config is valid; other java programs
work fine (inc eclipse) and I can call java -version from a command
prompt.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I had my JDK set to 1.5 but my Java Version under Java
Preferences was set to 1.5 64-bit, I changed this to 1.5 32-bit and
all is well.

  • Errors when installing Flex Builder 3

I've just installed Flex Builder on my machine but
unfortunately things did not go right.
FX does not work, when I try to start a project an error
message comes on. I click on details, and the only detail I get is
    "error".
I tried reinstalling but it did no good. Very frustrating.
Any hints as to what to do to try it again? Would a corrupted
file cause this kind of problem??
    Thank you for any ideas.

  • How to install Flex Builder?

I would like to start using Flex. But I have big problems when trying to install Flex Builder 3. I already have Eclipse (Ganymede, 3.4) installed on my Windows Vista machine so I tried to install the Eclipse plugin, but I got these dependency pronblems:

  • Problems with Flex builder upgrade

Hi, I'm trying to upgrade my copy of Flex Builder to
2.0.1 so that I can install the Apollo plugin, but when I run the
upgrade the wizard says it cannot find the correct folder
apparently it does not contain the plugin and features folders, but
I know it does I can see them. I have installed Flex builder on the
D drive of my PC, I'm not sure if that is the cause of the problem.
I also have a copy of Eclipse 3.2 with the Flex Builder plugin
installed, which does have the Apollo plugin working, but I'd like
to have the full Flex builder working so I can use the RDS plugins
to view my databases, which doesn't work in Eclipse 3.2.
So what is the best place to have Flex Builder installed so I
can get Cfeclipse, RDS and Apollo plugins to work?
    Thanks
    Stephen

Is Flex Builder running? In Beta 3 we have a problem in that
we were opening the Help in an external browser, which stays open
when you stop Flex Builder (which, in turn, stops the Tomcat
    instance that runs the Help).
For final, we'll rever to using the internal browser window
by default, which closes when you close Flex Builder.

  • Anyone been able to install Flex Builder 2 on Vista?

I am trying to figure out if there is a way to get Flex
    Builder 2 to install
on Vista RTM yet. I can get Flex Builder 2.0 installed but
    when I try to
perform the 2.0.1 update I get an error from the Install
    Anywhere
application that I need to "select another location to
    extract the installer
to" but no matter where I install it or if I try to run it
    from the temp
folder as the error is displayed it doesn't work.
I know this is only like the 2nd day or so Vista has been
    available to the
public but I am just wondering if anyone has had any luck so
    far with
perhaps a beta or the business release?
    Thanks,
    -Dan

In case anyone else is having this trouble I found out a way
    that I think is
able to update Flex Builder to 2.0.1. If you download the
    updater on an XP
machine then use WinRAR to extract the files in the .exe you
    should be able
to move that whole folder onto the Vista machine then run the
FlexBuilder2_Updater.exe file from there without any problems
    or errors (I
set that to have admin and run in XP SP2 compatibility just
    to make sure).
So far it seems to be working fine.

  • Video Display Problems with Flex Builder 2

I am currently trying out the Flex Builder 30-day trial and
have been having problems running the software.
    System info:
    FB 2.0.1
    Dell Latittude D820 running WinXP
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 120M Video Card
When I first installed it, my display turned to garbage and I
had to reboot my machine to get it to a usable state. Someone
suggested changing my display properties and see if it helped. When
I tried 768X1024 with 8-bit color it worked. Once I installed it, I
changed them back to 1920X1200 32-bit. Everything seemed to work
fine until I started getting into some more complicated tutorials.
My display crashed and looked similar to what I saw before. I
updated to the latest NVIDIA driver from Dell. No help. I then
tried the Windows Troubleshooting. When I turned my hardware
acceleration to None, it started working again. There are some
weird display issues with menu buttons and I can't launch my Nvdia
    software.
Is there a better solution to this? Has anyone had this
problem? I'm not so sure I'll purchase the software with this many
    problems.
    Thanks,
    Wendi

    Boys n Girls
I am Currently restoring my Power Book after a significant meltdown.
Thanks for posting I too saw the shearing effect but shrugged it off thinking oh well I'll just reboot!
If you are seeing this Buy a fire wire drive NOW and Back-up.
I suspect the Video update changed a low level feature in the power management routines and this resulted in my Power book cooking itself.
I've got a 12mth old Hitachi 7200 PATA drive in my Power Book after the Apple Drive cooked itself soem tim back and I have now got to back-up and restore my whole system. Luckiliy I have plenty of Big fast firewire drives around so I'm imaging the corrupt drive and going to run the Hitachi tool on it via a WINDOZE Thinkpad. Then a combination of clean install of 10.5.x and a migration assisted restore should do it.
I'm really not very happy though! My Time machine image did not restore and the disk repair did not work. I have a corrupted asl.DB ( the log file for Apple System Logs) and the mac won't boot from its internal drive.
I'll post the resolution here as it happens I'm at hour Disaster + 24 so I'm really cranky!
I suggest If you have a G4 Power Book you resist the temptation to install the video update.

  • Can't install Flex Builder 2 plugin in Eclipse 3.3/Europa

[I hope Adobe reads these forums. I tried to submit this as a
customer service request, but the customer service request form
kept telling my I had to enter my First Name, Last Name, and Email
address, even though I _had_ entered them!]
I can't seem to install the Flex Builder 2 plugin in Eclipse
3.3/Europa. I had it installed fine in 3.2/Callisto. I uninstalled
it from there, installed Europa, then tried to install the plugin.
After I selected the Eclipse folder, I got the error:
"Please choose an existing Eclipse folder (3.1 or greater) to
be updated. This folder must contain eclipse.exe and the standard
    folder named "configuration"."
All three conditions (3.1 or greater, eclipse.exe and
configuration) hold in my case, so I don't know what the real
    problem is.

Actually it's quite simple. But you have to be warned. This
doesn't guarantee a bug free Eclipse setup and it isn't supported
by Adobe in any way. It is how-ever your only shot at getting
Eclipse with Flex Builder 2 AND php-development support, as Zend
has stopped deploying the php-development-requirement for Eclipse
3.2 (or at least I haven't found it in their archives.)
Flex Builder 2 simply checks for some files to see if the
directory you want to install to exist, so it recognizes the
directory as an Eclipse 3.1+ directory. Eclipse 3.3 however misses
the file startup.jar. If you simply copy startup.jar from an
Eclipse 3.2 directory into the 3.3 directory, Flex Builder 2 will
    install in the 3.3 directory.
Again. This is not supported in any way by Adobe.
For more info, Google on: eclipse-3.3 Flex-builder-2
    startup.jar
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=eclipse-3.3+Flex-builder-2+startup.jar
    Kind regards.
PS. I would still like to have an Adobe Representative answer
the simple question: Is Adobe or is Adobe not working on getting
Flex Builder 2 to work on Eclipse 3.3? A simple yes or no will
    suffice.

even start. The plug-in installer would not get past that same
screen, I downloaded 3.2 and it installed fine, I assume it checks
the version and 3.3 is not supported.

  • HELP!! Silent Installing Flex Builder 2

  • UTF-8 Problems in Flex Builder 3

I created locale properties files that contained characters
requiring UTF-8 encoding using Flex Builder 3 for Mac OS. Some of
the characters displayed incorrectly when viewed through the web
browser. Open the properties files with an editor (BBEdit) produced
a warning that the UTF-8 format was corrupted and the characters
did not display in BBEdit correctly. I fixed the format and
characters through BBEdit and found they worked and displayed as
expected. Opening the properties in Flex Builder 3 show the
characters correctly, but as soon as I saved the file from Flex
Builder the characters stopped displaying. BBEdit again showed the
    UTF-8 format was corrupted.
Does anyone have any suggestions for fixing this problem? Any
    workarounds?

FB saves files as ISO-8859-1 by default. Right click file,
select Properties, then select "other" in the Text File Encoding
area, and then select UTF-8 there.

  • Installing Flex Builder with MyEclipse

I am trying to get Flex Builder to install a plugin for
eclipse. I have read that the installer is having an issue seeing
the configuration directory, and there is certainly something wrong
with my install. The only solution I found online says that I would
need to, FIRST install eclipse 3.3.1, SECOND install flex and THIRD
    install MyEclipse.
Well, I'm more then a little disturbed by this as I've
already got my IDE setup and working just the way I want it, and
really I'm just testing the capabilities of Flex for the "powers
that be". If it is a good tool, we will use it. But if this failure
to install is a precursor of things to come I'm going to have to
shoot it down since I'm the one whose got to use it.
Any suggestions? Perhaps there is some other support for flex
    as well?
    Thanks,
    -Robert

  • Problem with Flex Builder 3

    Hey Experts,
I tried creating Flex Library Project in Flex Builder 3. No issues so far. Everything works fine. When the day ends, I close Flex Builder (without closing the project as it restores them during next launch). I had to close it...I can't keep the system running. Global warming you know...Next day when I launched Flex Builder, I could see my project there. However, when I open Project Properties dialog box, I get some errors while trying to open Flex Library Build Path or Flex Library Compiler pages. The error says "The currently displayed page contains invalid values."
C'mon man you gotta be kidding me. Yesterday you didn't say anything. What's the matter with you today. By the way, I didn't change anything in properties. How could I? I am unable to open it...
Does anyone understands Flex Builder's logic here?

Mate the first thing I tried was this...
If you want to see the problem, try crating a Flex Library Project in Flex Builder 3. Create couple of classes and close Flex Builder without closing the project. Re-launch Flex Builder and try to open Project -> Properties -> Flex Build Path or Project -> Properties -> Flex Compiler. You should be able to see the problem.
