Problems Installing Leopard on MacBook Pro

I've been trying to install Leopard on my Macbook Pro - for some reason, it asked me to format my hard drive to continue the install. So, I changed my startup disk to my harddrive and restarted - but now, my computer won't start up!
I've tried:
booting up with and without the leopard install disk
and booting up with my 10.4 install disk (the one that came with my MBP)
Any ideas? I've been waiting on the apple support line for the last 15 minutes and I'm getting a little frustrated. Thanks!

I had a similar experience on my MB Pro. Freshly rebooted, logged in as Administrator, backed up user data, but not applications folder (my mistake). Leopard install hosed my startup disk, could not repair with Disk Utility, could not boot from prior Tiger HD. Totally hosed. I had to reboot several times even to get it to do a clean install after that. I've just about got my machine back to usable, but have lost my applications requiring reinstalls, and some other stuff. This is a totally unacceptable upgrade process for an Apple product. I am very disappointed. It's not like Apple did not have enough time to get this right. It stinks.

  • Unable to install Leopard on MacBook Pro G4

I have a 2.16 GHz PowerBook G4 with 2 Gig of memory. When I try to install Leopard, I get as far as the restart. That it won't do. It comes up and says that it cannot be used as a start up disk and to make sure that the install disk is loaded. Well it is loaded, obviously, so what is happening? Why won't it continue into the installation. This is a brand new purchased disk.

I do not recall it being a G5
There was never a laptop from Apple with a G5 processor.
so it must be a G4 unless that designation is not used for the Core 2's.
"PowerBook" and "G4" only applied to the earlier laptops from Apple that contained the PowerPC G4 processor. Neither term applies to the current Intel-based Mac laptops of which the MacBook and MacBook Pro are examples. It's not a "technicality"; it's critical to identify correctly what model of Mac you have so that people give you appropriate advice. What works on one model of Mac doesn't always work on a different model.
That said, I repeat my question: have you tried booting it by inserting the CD, restarting, and holding down the "c" key? If not, try that and see if that will boot the system.

  • Problems installing CS3 on MacBook Pro 10.7.5

When I try to install Creative Suite 3 on my MacBook Pro, Lion 10.7.5, I get the error message, "Startup error Required resources are missing." What can I do? Thanks!

It's probably referring to some Rosetta PPC emulation stuff, as the CS3 installer had a bug where it would want that stuff even on intel machines. Since Rosetta is dead as frozen fish, I'm afraid there is no way to resolve this. Perhaps there's a way to copy the isntaller to a local disk, then edit the installer package and remove the offending content, but that's just a guess. Anyway, perhaps your system logs can shed some light on this. Check your log viewer.

  • Problem installing Yosemite on Macbook pro early 2011 10.7.5.

When the installation on my Macbook Pro early 2011 OS X 10.7.5. goes to the page for installing Yosemite, nothing happens and after several minutes it says, "File system verify or repair failed" "Quit the installer to restart your compuer and try again"  I have restarted 4 times with the same result

Ended up restoring from Time Machine.  This seemed to take care of the errors on the drive that prevented the installation.  Will try again.

  • Problem installing archlinux on macbook pro retina

Currently i don't have ethernet cable but i would like to install archlinux on my macbook machine. I face a problem that i will need to install broadcom-wl or broadcom-wl-dkms,  on either case i will need linux-headers for that kernel which seems missing in bootable archlinux made from archlinux-2014.06.01-dual.iso. Now linux-header package available in repository is  new version i.e linux-headers-3.15.1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz. I don't know how can i enable my wireless driver and install archlinux? Why installation media is so abstract that it is very difficult without internet. Is there some good iso file available and i am not sure about manjaro distribution having their own repository.

Thanks for your response. I have downloaded the files from base-devel group and i can install them but I am not able to install linux-headers for particular kernel in bootable usb as i will need to build broadcom-wl from AUR first. Can i install all files in hard disk without using
    pacstrap -i /mnt base base-devel
    safely.

  • Can't install Leopard on MacBook Pro - Screen goes very dark

    Need help!!
Screen is alright at first during boot, Apple logo is fine. Then there is like a Video mode switch upon booting CD and the screen is really, like if the backlight was off or really low brightness set. Special Fs keys on keyboard do not change anything on this, other keys are responsive but I don't want to start install when I can't even see the mouse pointer.
Anybody experienced this? All was fine just before the install, never had a screen issue before. Being able to eject the CD from the superdrive would be nice too...

    Same problem on my MBP.
    How I solved it:
Step 1: Aim lots of bright light sources at your screen.
Step 2: Realize how dirty your screen is. Clean it before moving to step three.
Step 3: If you tilt the screen at just the right angle and squint really hard, you can kinda read the screen.
Step 4: Place finger on trackpad and wiggle like crazy until you manage to see the cursor.
Step 5: Proceed (slowly, so you don't lose the cursor or the only angle that makes the screen barely visible) with install.
Step 6: Go take some medicine for the migrain you just developed squinting at the dark screen.
Step 7: Enjoy Leopard. (Step 7 is optional).

First, it violates your license with Apple.
Second, all disks are keyed to machines they ship with.
You need to buy a copy of Leopard 10.5.4 for the other machine.

  • Problem Installing fcp on macbook pro

I have been trying to install final cut studio 7 onto my mac book pro.
My spec is OS X 10.6 . 2.66 GHZ Intel core 2 duo.
    4gig memory 1067 MHz DDR3
The installaton appeared to be going fine. I had installed the final cut studio install dvd and gone through all the secions. i was then promted to insert disc 1 of the audio content. It installed fine but during that i was asked to re enter the install dvd . I didnt do it right away as the audio content was still installing. When i did re insert the install dvd nothing happened
I havent installed any of the other discs , i had a message telling me that installation had failed. With no reason as to why.
However, when i open FCP it allows me in and allows me to create a new project. Everthing appears to be ok.
Should i be concerend about this ? If so, should i un install and start over ?
If this is the case how do I go about uninstalling FCP?
I am relatively new to apple and have never had to uninstall a programme. I hope this query makes sense and if
    thanks in advance

    hi Ian,
many thanks for your reply. Yes it appears to have installed all the applications ok.
it was actually the fcp install that it asked me for but i couldnt put it in as the audio content was still loading, when audio content disc 1 finished it then prompted for disc 2 , instead of inserting disc 2 i thought i better put the fcp install disc back in, because it said i would need to reinsert that disc to complete installation, but when i did it said installation failed.
i will try what you have suggested and install the content dvds again as FCP seems to be working fine. If that doesnt work i will try the uninstall tool.
    thanks again for your help

  • Cannot install snow leopard in macbook pro early 2011. disk is rejected. what do I do?

Unable to install snow leopard in macbook pro early 2011. When I put in the disk, the computer does not accept it. What can I do?

    lord1908,
some Early 2011 MacBook Pros originally came with Snow Leopard installed, and some originally came with Lion installed. If yours originally came with Snow Leopard installed, then you should be able to install Snow Leopard from its model-specific grey Mac OS X Install DVD. (The white retail Snow Leopard DVD can’t be used with it; it was made for use with earlier models, which originally came with either Tiger or Leopard installed.) If yours originally came with Lion installed, then it won’t accept any Snow Leopard DVD; instead, you’d be able to use OS X Internet Recovery to download and install its original version of Lion from Apple’s servers.

  • How to install Snow Leopard on Macbook Pro? keep getting msg- cannot install Internal HD is used for Time Machine- this was reset to external HD and still get msg?

How to install Snow Leopard on Macbook Pro? keep getting msg- cannot install Internal HD is used for Time Machine- this was reset to external HD and still get msg?

At some point, your internal HD was selected for use as Time Machine backups, and a Backups.backupdb folder was created at the top level.   So OSX thinks you're trying to install it on the same drive as your backups.
Open your internal HD with the Finder (you won't find it via a Spotlight or Finder search) and delete that folder.

  • How to install upgrade snow leopard in macbook pro?

I bought a macbook pro 2011 2.2 ghz quad core i7 and would like to install snow leopard in one partition to run older software. I had the full version of os leopard, but can't install in the new macbook pro to upgrade to snow leopard. I can't upgrade snow leopard in my power G5 either because it needs intel cpu. Is there away to upgrade leopard to snow leopard in macbook pro 2011? I have not bought the snow leopard upgrade yet. Thank for your help.

See the bottom of this user tip to determine if Snow Leopard can be installed on your MacBook Pro:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2455
If it can, you'll need to find out the version of Snow Leopard installer that was available at the time that machine was released based on the age of the machine.
    Snow Leopard releases are here:
    10.6.6 on January 6, 2011
    10.6.7 on May 4, 2011
    10.6.8 on June 23, 2011

I cannot save or export from Pages since installing Yosemite on MacBook Pro . I just get the message at beginning of this post “Acceptance Letter.pages” doesn’t exist or whatever file title I have inserted How to solve problem?

Thanks Peter but I was not seeking to store with I-Cloud. In fact I never store documents with I-cloud.
I was in fact trying to store the files to Documents, which is where I usually keep such things.
Have now discovered that if I leave the file untiled and simply close it, rather than saving it then it will save, oddly, to Documents. I then have to re-title it and move to the folder I want it in.
Despite the above, even once it is titled and saved in Documents then if I reopen it I still cannot then Export it to a Word or PDF file. I still just get the message . xxxxxx.pages does not exist!
Bad news as I am constantly exporting documents to Word and PDF to send to others who do not use a Mac
