Problems Installing OS X Mavericks to my OS X 10.6.8

Hello!  I have been trying to update my Mac OS X 10.6.8 to OS X Mavericks, but after I sign the license agreement it does not let me select a disk to install it to.  When I select the MAC ONE disk it states "This disk doesn't use the GUID Partition Table scheme.  Use Disk Utility to change the partition scheme.  Select the disk, choose the Partition tab, select the Volumen Scheme and then click Options".
The Disks Available on my Disk Utility are:
500.11 GB Hitachi HTSS4505089A300 Media
Mac One
Untitled 2
MATCHITA DV-R UJ-868
When I choose "MAC ONE" is does not give me a choice to change the partition scheme on "MAC ONE"
I have no idea what I am doing, but a lot of the time I manage,   By following the instructions.  But in this case I am not having any luck.
On top of that I cannot back up my system for some reason.
Can someone help me?
Thank you so much,
Liz

Folder X is not part of OS X
It is a third party piece of software
It appears you have an unregister copy
You can remove it by following the directions at http://uninstallmacapp.wordpress.com/2013/10/25/uninstall-default-folder-x-4-5-1 1-how-to-uninstall-default-folder-x-4-5-11/
Now that you have said that I am going to suggest you download and install EtreCheck from http://etresoft.com/etrecheck
Run EtreCheck and publish report here
This will provide us with a lot of information about your system in caes you have other surprises.

Any body have this kind of problem.  What was done to correct it. . .

I can't wait to get a new phone as well. LG Revolution owners should be comped for this phone if Verizon intends to keep them as customers.

I just checked to see if the update to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 solved any of the issues outlined in my previous post, and to my dismay, nothing has changed -- all of the previous problems persist.
My iMac (8) -- it's renamed itself eight times since the recent troubleshoot with the Apple tech rep -- shows up as a shared device in Finder on my MacBook Pro, but when I click on it, I cannot establish a connection using "Connect As".  So I've attempted to connect using the menu "Go/Connect to Server...", using both (alternately) the iMac's name and IP address, to no avail.  I get a message which reads: "There was a problem connecting to the server 'Peter's iMac (8)'. This server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time.  Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
    Here's what I know:
    The server -- Peter's iMac (8) does exist;
    The server -- Peter's iMac (8) is available at this time;
    The server name -- Peter's iMac (8) -- is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
    The server IP address is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
The network connection is active when I attempt to connect.
I'm convinced the problems stem directly from the OS X Yosemite update.  None of this was ever remotely an issue in the previous OS X's -- any of them.  This is maddening!  What can be done?  Apple?? Anyone???

  • Problem installing Mavericks from my recovery partition of my computer

I don't know what's going on but for some reason each and every time I try to install mavericks from my recovery partition I get an error saying "OSX Mavericks failed to download" , then the text underneath that said "Use the purchases page to try again". This creates a problem for me because I can not access the Mac AppStore since I whipped my MacBook clean with the os along with it and am trying to clean install mavericks. So I was wondering how do I fix this because I am beginning to get extremely ****** off and frustrated.

  • Since installing OS X Mavericks photoshop runs so slow I can hardly use it....anyone else having this problem?

since installing OS X Mavericks photoshop (CS6) runs so slow I can hardly use it.  Is anyone else having this problem?

The post above is only partially true. There are many people that have install Mavericks over the top of a older version of OS X and haven't experiences any problem. Then of course there are others that have experiences many different problems.
Do you have a Time Machine backup from before you installed Mavericks? If you do, and you should, you can restore your system from that TM backup and then do a clean install of Mavericks on either an external drive or a second partition on your internal drive then use the Setup assistant system to copy over your setting files and apps from your older OS X version. You can then TEST that clean Mavericks install for any compatibilty problem before you commit to it totally.

  • Problems with pages after installing OS X Mavericks

I have thousands of individually written invoices in pages on my MAC. When I installed OS X Mavericks the headers don't appear when I open them and doesn't appear on my templates. It would take forever to open each document and alter them. There are also some other spacing errors on the documents but I am less worried about this.
If I go back in time machine will it restore the earlier version of pages or the whole operating system or neither or both?
I also have made my standard INVOICE template the default in 'new' so it goes straight to it but having done that cannot seem to access the template selection in the way it used to so cannot write a letter that is not an invoice without deleting everything etc!!
Starting to with I hadn't moved to mavericks but I'm not technically confident enough to go back to Lion which I loved!
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi A,
Glad you found Pages '09. Your second question may be not relevant to you now, but this tip may help others.
I also have made my standard INVOICE template the default in 'new' so it goes straight to it but having done that cannot seem to access the template selection in the way it used to
I don't have Pages 5, but this is what happens in Numbers 3 when a template is the default in 'new'. File Menu no longer shows New From Template Chooser. To get it back, hold down the option key when using the File Menu.
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • HT201364 Problem in installing OS X Mavericks.

  • Problems installing Windows8.1 on High Performance MBPr late 2013 running Mavericks.

Hi, im currently new to MacOSX ( i made the jump from PCs) and although i think the overall experience on MacOSX is perfect i still need to run Windows natively on my mac ( i dont trust virtualisation programs.) and then i started to investigate how to setup bootcamp to "load" Windows 8.1 but im having some troubles with the process ..
1- when i open bootcamp it ask me where is the ISO. file (where the OS is), so i select my Windows 8.1 installation that my brother gave me and he told me that the ISO. have both forms of installations ( the 32 and 64bits) so when i load it on bootcamp it doesnt recognise the existence of the 64bit installation..
right now thats the only problem ( so far ) that im having with this, if somebody can give me some tutorial to install windows 8.1 will be really appreciated.
    regards.
    DanAtaD

Im downloading windows from this link http://www.123myit.com/downloads/ the 64 bit one, ( idc if its made to be downloaded with intentions of piracy since i have my license key) so illl try running boot camp with that and lets see if that works.
I also have been reading about some problems on the MBPr late 2013 when they try to install windows 8.1 in EFI mode, but they "solve" the problem instaling it on the emulated bios, since its much faster to install it in the efi mode ( better speeds at waking up from sleep, better startup times, etc.) are there any workarounds to this problem or the problem has been solved with a patch from Apple?
    thanks.

  • Problems with Office 2008 after installing OS X Mavericks

I just installed OS X Mavericks on my Macbook Pro. Now I can't adjust the size (view) of all the office (2008) program screens. Can anybody help me to fix this? For example, the view of Word is very small now and I just simply want to adjust the size. This is the only from I have.
    Thanks in advance!

You have tried to adjust the size using the \\\\ tab at the bottom right?
    You might try looking/posting here.

Mine works fine, so it isn't Word 2008. You might try re-installing Office.

  • Installing os x mavericks problem

I am installing os x mavericks however it has failed and said i needed to back up my data, erase my disk and try again. I have tried doing these things however my computer wont let me, is there any way i can just quit the entire thing? I have tried restart while holding option but it only appears with the instal os x. My macbook pro was bought in 2011 and is not very up to date.

    my computer wont let me,
    What happens when you try?
    Error message when it failed?
Do you have a backup? If so, try booting off the Disk 1 that came with the computer or the Snow Leopard DVD. Run Disk Utility Repair Disk and Repair Permissions. If you don't have a backup, try using the Disk Utility Restore tab to copy your files to an external drive. Then erase and reformat the partition using Mac OS X Extended (Journaled). Install an OS and go through the upgrade again. Once you have a working Mavericks OS, copy the files from the external.

    Try this:
clone your system and repair it with Disk Warrior instead
Or try a clean test system install on another drive
A must: SmcFanControl 2.2 - a mere 400 rpm extra to keep air cooling up
Try to run w/o externals. MyBook included.
Is that a 7200.11 1TB? they had a lot of issues.
Run AHT off your OEM DVD.
2008 had to have EFI and SMC updates to deal with freezes on wake from sleep, and like all models, high inrush current.  Hopefully you have a UPS and is 1500VA unit.
When you do hard restart from power button, you almost certainly add more directory errors and to files requiring immediate attention to repair and rebuild the directory; and to scan and repair and delete cache and temp files and folders. A must. Invest in bootable backups SuperDuper along with Disk Warrior (or TechTool Pro 6, maybe Drive Genius 3 but I'd rate that #3).
TimeMachine has its own bad habits, especially with Green drives and some externals.
Try to rule out everything and then add back one at a time.
And it may just be time to replace the 8800, very common, a couple threads this week, and it is 3 yrs old.  Might want ATI 5870 or 5770.
