Problems installing PageMaker 7 in Vista
I'm trying to install PageMaker 7 in Vista Home Premium, and the Postscript Driver and ODBC driver won't install as they crash in the middle of installing. The main Pagemaker 7 program installed (and has been updated) as well as Acrobat Distiller and ATM Lite. Any suggestions as to how important they are and what is needed to install them. A second question is that what do you do with the second install disc, it's never asked for. Dave138
Yes, it can be quite costly to keep up...!!!
In lieu of upgrading to Win 7 Ultimate or Professional in order to run Windows Virtual PC with XP mode (assuming your computer BIOS is set correctly and will permit virtualization), one can run XP (and most previous Win OS's) in virtual mode using Sun's free VirtualBox. I now use it on Vista to run PM7 when PM7 (on Vista) refuses to open legacy files created on Mac PM7 or exhibits other anomalies when running on Vista. I can use that same VirtualBox "image" or virtual machine on multiple computers and OS's (with care). I also own InDesign 2 (won't run on Vista or Snow Leopard) and InDesign CS4 (compatible with SL and Win 7) for both Mac and Windows platform. The agenda here (for me) has been to convert ALL previous files created in PageMaker (Mac versions 2-7) and InDesign 2 (Mac) to the latest Adobe program (InDesign CS4) and look to the FUTURE. That future means moving ahead into the latest two major OSs released this November as well: Mac Snow Leopard (SL) and Win 7. Regrettably, the future of PostScript is in question for Mac users also, which is why I am focusing on Windows over Mac for the future. Adding then to the challenge of updating all files to InDesign CS4 is the task of updating those files with OpenType replacement fonts (from PostScript conversions made in-house). Quite a project it is since these files date from 1987. When all is said and done, I will have access to twenty-two years of files current with the latest InDesign app and the latest OS. From there forward, the past is the past and the future is the future (pardon the trite philosophy).
PageMaker has long been abandoned on the Mac, and now it arguably is on Windows. Adobe abandoned PostScript for OpenType some years back. This is the FUTURE that we are seeing, and we are being forced to adapt to it by both Snow Leopard and Win 7 and their successors. OS9 or Win98 or XP aren't coming back. That's just the way it is. For now, you can stay with XP using a virtualization application like Sun's VirtualBox (in Vista or Win 7) or you can move forward and upgrade to InDesign CS4. In the end, you will move forward. Why not do it now?

Problem installing PageMaker postscript driver on win 7 system
Hi,
Recently upgraded to a new Windows 7 system and after installing PageMaker 7.0, I noticed that there was no pdf printer in my printer selections. I attempted to install postcript drivers, but the installation could not be completed. There was no specific error message, just a "doink" from the computer and a pop-up with a big red "x".
Is there anyone who can suggest a way to get my PM running the way it used to under XP? Am I doing something wrong? I really need to be able to print to PDF.
Please help.
Thanks.A few points:

I first began with Aldus Pagemaker and it fit the company well, and actually still does.
There's no reason you can't continue with PageMaker as long as you like, but it isn't reasonable for you to expect that you should be able to run it on newer hardware and newer operating systems. Just keep an old computer, and remember that you will have to print to a machine that will be compatible with the old computer and software.
robertlcook wrote:
I'd like to see Pagemaker simply brought up to speed here and there without going crazy.
It will never happen. There will be no improvements to PageMaker. Eventually, you may find yourself in a situation where a link in your production will change, like your source for imagesetting, plate-making, digital press, or something else that will not accept PageMaker for one reason or another. At that point, you will not be able to output your catalog. The day is coming, so you can either address it now, or then. If the thought of paying for some additional staffing to port your catalog over to InDesign isn't attractive, consider the impact of not having a catalog. -
Problems installing FW CS3 on Vista Business
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has come up with this problem.
Actually I have it with both, Fireworks and Dreamweaver. I'm
currently running my machine with Windows Vista Business, and when
trying to install, it does nothing.
I double click the installation file, it extracts the
content, then I see a progress bar that says "preparing", and after
that window dissappears I breafly see a Setup progress bar which
immediatly dissappears and THATS IT! gone! I tried running it as
Administrator, that won't make a difference.
P.S This is the trial I'm trying to install by the way,
however I've seen in other forums that users are finding the same
problem with the full program.
Any suggestions please?
Thanx.CS3 installs/runs on Vista, and Win7 is pretty much the same codebase. You might try right-clicking the install program and then click Run as Administrator, but it's probably some other problem.

Problems installing iTunes on Windows Vista
I have searched these and other forums. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes NUMEROUS times. I have cleaned the registry, tried Windows Fix-it, tried to repair Apple Application Software. I have updated the Microsoft.Net Framwork. I continue to get the same error. The software says that it has loaded successfully, but when I try to open the software, I get the following message:
"The procedure entry point AVCFURLAssetInheritURIQueryComponentFromReferencingURIKey could not be located in dynamic link library AVFoundationCF.dll"
My only choice then is to click ok. When I do that, I get a second error message:
"iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes Error7 (Windows error #127).
Can someone please help me with the correct fix for these errors or some other ideas of how to get iTunes correctly installed on my computer. I have spent HOURS in the last week researching and re-installing and am at my wits end!For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The error report suggests a similar problem to those outlined in the fist and third boxes and is probably the result of an outdated .dll file.

Problem installing on Windows Vista?
I have the package for adobe photoshop elements 9 and premier pro 9 and can't get photoshop to install. When I place the disc in my computer auto start comes up with options for viewing pictures in different programs but there isn't anything saying "install" or "run" the software. I then went into explorer to view the folders in the disc but i still can't get the installation process to start. Does it matter that I installed premier before photoshop? I don't think It''s a space issue because I should have enough. Help would be much appreciated thanks.
Sorry for the late reply, and thank you for posting your advice so quickly. However, I tried looking for "setup.exe" or something similar but can't seem to find one at all, and I searched through all the folders. Is it possible there is something wrong with the disc? Or should I download a trial version online and use the code on the back of my package to access the full product instead?

Try looking inside the "Adobe Photoshop Elements 9" folder and double click on Setup.exe to launch the install.

Problems Installing Desktop Manager 5 on Vista 64 machine.
Trying to install DTM 5 on Vista 64 machine. Install went fine. Now it says, Before you begin, verify that your current Blackberry device is connected to your computer. So I connect the BB 8900 Curve to the Vista 64 machine. The Curve asks me for my password. I enter it. Then there is a pop on the PC that wants to install the driver software. I say okay. It searches but does not find it.Gives me a notice Blackberry Failed. So the Vista 64 cannot see my Blackberry.I have the 4.6 OS on the blackberry. I tried upgrading the 4.6 OS to 5.0 OS but it is not supported by Rogers right now.Is there a link to a USB driver that will enable me to connect the 8900 curve to the Vista 64 machine so I can verify my device is connected to the computer and complete the install? Thanks for any help.
Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Is your local account on that PC administrator level? Also, it is often helpful to use the "Run As Administrator" when launching the installer. Please give that a try and see if it helps.
Cheers!

Problems installing Adobe Air and BBC iPlayer Desktop
Problems installing Adobe Air and BBC iPlayer Desktop
I'm running Windows 7 32 bit on an ASUS netbook with 2mb ram. I installed both Air 3.7 and BBC iPlayer Desktop using Google Chrome. I downloaded 3 BBC programmes. Two ran fine but the third wouldn't start and I kept getting a message to try again later. I deleted this programme and downloaded it again, with the same result.
So I uninstalled both Air and the BBC iPlayer Desktop, the Air exe file and the two folders at the following locations:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\AIR\ and
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\BBCiPlayerDesktop.xxx
Since doing this each time I try to install Air either on its own or with the BBC iPlayer software I get the message part way through installation:
"Sorry, an error has occurred.
An error occurred while installing Adobe AIR. Installation may not be allowed by your administrator. Please contact your administrator."
I have run the Microsoft Fix it programme and still get the same result.
I have tried everything on your Trouble Shooting page apart from the bit about the elevated command prompt, but as I'm the sole user and administrator, that seems unnecessary.
I have closed Chrome and tried installation using Windows Explorer but with the same result.
I have tried all the above with Microsoft Security Essentials running and disabled. And I have tried the same with Astrill on and off.
I have had a response from the BBC with much the same advice as appears on your trouble shooting page.
Here is the Air installation log, followed by the MSI log.

Can't Install Itunes 8.2 Vista 32 bit
I have used Itunes for the past two yrs on this machine with no problems till this recent version of itunes was released. I have had nothing but problems trying to install. Running windows Vista Home...I keep reaching a point in the install and I get an error message that reads "The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file: *C: \Program Files\ipod\bin\ipodService.Resources\res.lproj\iPodSerceLocalized.dll." This is my home computer, I am the only user ID, so I am the admin. To trouble shoot I have installed all microsoft updates, uninstalled all Itunes and apple software, made sure all firewall software has been turned off, and no luck. I have even tried going into programs and deleting the Itunes folder after the uninstall and I get another message saying "You need permission to perform this action". Contacted apple for support and other than suggesting I uninstal Itunes, then reinstall, they were no help and directed me to microsoft. Microsoft has pushed back and said "Itunes is 3rd party software and you must get help from apple". I'm stuck....can anyone help????
All I can say is make sure you are the administrator and if not right-click on the installation program and click "Run as Administrator", and delete all traces of iTunes off the computer, i.e. delete the folder C:\Program Files\ipod as you say. Make sure it is the latest version of iTunes and is for Windows Vista (not XP). Another thing to point out is to make sure your Computer is compatible with iTunes 8.2 (perhaps try installing iTunes 8.0/8.1 by searching for the link in Google).
If you have done all of that and it still does not install then I do not know what is wrong. As iTunes is one of the many applications i use 24/7 (pretty much) and I use it all the time, I would try installing it on a similar Windows Machine with a similar configuration and it works, I would reinstall Windows on your personal computer. If not, take the case further as I cannot think of anything else that could be wrong, so long as you have not edited the installation program or anything Good luck. -
How to install windows xp over vista on a toshiba satellite A200 1YO
How to install raid/scsi drivers and get rid of vista for good
what you will need
â?¢ 1 USB external floppy drive
â?¢ 2 floppy disks
â?¢ 1 set of drivers for the hard drive you have in the computer
â?¢ a legal copy of windows xp pro
WHAT TO DO WITH THE FLOPPY DISKS
COPY THE DRIVERS DONT CUT AND PASTE THEM
â?¢ get DISK 1 and place the drivers required onto the disk as they are without any folders
â?¢ get DISK 2 and make a folder called $OEM$ and within that folder make another called TEXTMODE then within that folder insert the drivers that you have in disk 1
Installing the drivers and windows xp pro
â?¢ when windows asks you to press F6 to install raid drivers press F6
â?¢ then enter DISK1 into the floppy drive
â?¢ when it prompts you to press "s" to install...install the raid and storage controllers
â?¢ press "s" again and press enter on the same raid driver you just told windows to use
â?¢ windows will then say that it already has drivers for the raid controller
â?¢ press the appropriate key to tell windows you want it to use the floppy drivers instead of windows own
â?¢ after the drivers load remove the floppy disk
â?¢ wait until windows asks for the drivers again and insert DISK 2
â?¢ and windows will install at long last vista is GONE you will need the drivers for any hardware your computer system but they should be easy to get from the manufacturers web site
I have used this method and it worked with a Toshiba satellite a200 1yo laptop with no problems
PLEASE LEAVE COMMENTS ON HOW YOU GOT ON TO LET OTHERS KNOW THAT THIS METHOD WORKS THANKS
