Problems installing Sol 10 x86 on Compaq Harware
Please Help! I am a newbie to Solaris and I am trying to understand some of these postings in this thread. I am trying to install Sol 10 on a Compaq DL360 with dual proc 1.26 MHZ and 3 GB RAM. It has an imbeded 5i array controller with two 36 GB drives attached set up as RAID 0.
I have downloaded the Sol 8 UTI disk for the controller and seem to be able to successfully add the driver for installation. Note: I renamed the directory from Sol_28 to Sol_210 as instructed earlier in this thread. I get a warning message after loading the driver that says :
Solaris could not detect a primary disk.....
However, the system has detected a disk controller without a driver, and assumes that the following disk maps to the primary disk:
/pic@0,0/pcie11,4040@1/cmdk@0,0:a
Choose continue to confirm the Solaris bootpath of the primary disk.
I press F2 to continue.
I continue with setup and choose Interactive text console. It boots the kernel then I get some memory resource overlap warnings but setup continues. Then I get two warnings that read...
Warning: /pci@0,0 /pcie11,4040@1/sd@0,0 (sd1): Request Sense couldn't get sense data
and
Warning:/pci@0,0/pcie11,4040@1/sd@0,0 (sd1): Sychronize cache command failed (5)
Setup continues...
I choose language as English and get same two warnings again. Setup continues. I enter network config info, and set root password then continue. Then installation starts and I get this error...
One or more disks are found, but one of the following problems exist:
Hardware Failure
Unformatted diskThen I push f2_ok and I get kicked out to shell.
What am I missing? Did I miss something? I tried this on another machine, a Compaq Proliant 800 with a 4200 controller with same results. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
FYI: I tried yet another version of solaris as i found out that theres a bug in the 64-bit kernel on update 4 for alot of new processors. Solaris 10 x86 update 7 did the trick! :). Installed right away on a standard 'Solaris 10 (64 bit)' VM. I still find it strange that the most recent version of solaris 10 fails to even start the installation.

Hi
I have installed solaris 10 x86 in my pc having lg monitor standard monitor 2.54 celeron processor , installation was smooth with no problem , after booting iam not able to get gui it is out of range frenquency error in the monitor ,but iam able to work in cli
will any body to how resolve it
With rgds
TarunThe trick is to edit your xorg.conf file to only
include the frequencies your monitor can support.
Simply comment out the odd ones you know don't seem
right. To be on the safe side I would set it to
800x600 60hz just to get it up and then adjust as
needed. This is exactly my problem also. However, being a newbie to Unix, I am at a loss for where Xorg.conf resides. I also don't seem to have Xsun at the location in the previous message.
Any ideas? Thanks, Tony -

Thanks,
BobI have solved this problem :
1. Rename the keydb.xml. For exmaple rename to keydb.xml_bak.
2. You can see the keydb.1.xml, keydb.2.xml, keydb.3.xml, keydb.4.xml, etc. in the same folder.
3. You choose the biggest or latest .xml file. For example, you choose the keydb.3.xml.
4. The choosen file, keydb.3.xml, rename keydb.xml
5. You can reinstall.
Take care of yourself.

I have a RackSaver Dual AMD XP 1600+ Server with an Adaptec AIC-7899 SCSI controller with a IBM 36G 160 drive. 1GB DDR memory. When I start the install it recognizes all my devices, starts the webstart, flashes some information and displays done at the bottom of the screen and reboots to start the install all over again. Any idea what is the problem?
According to sunsolve the minimum version of solaris
supported on the ultra20 is solaris 10. Unless its an
ultra 20 m2 in which case you need solaris 10u2.OK.
Looks like I'll have to download Solaris 10.

Sol 10 x86 not recognizing hard disk
Hi,
I am trying to install Sol 10 x86 V 6/06 on a HP DL585. I am installing from a CD. When it is time to install the software , I get an error, found no disks . These are 72Gb disks. The hardware is supported under hcl. Are there any extra drivers I need for the install cd to recognizeEither the HDD is dead or the connection cable is faulty. Take out the HDD and place it in an enclosure and connect it to the MBP via USB. The start the MBP with the OPTION key held down. If the external HDD is recognized, click on it and se if it boots the MBP. If it does, then it is the cable that is the problem. Otherwise the problem lies with the HDD.

Several mysterious problems with Solaris 11 x86 install
Hi folks,
I've recently installed Solaris 11 x86 as a replacement for Solaris 9 SPARC on an Ultra 2 machine. I like the operating system, but I've promptly acquired some mysterious problems. The computer is a Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo E2500 with a Pentium 4 HT 3.06 GHz processor, 2 GB RAM, an 80 GB SATA disk and a 147 GB SCSI disk.
I have had a few occasions on which the screen goes totally blank, the monitor claims that there is no signal, and I have to restart the machine. However, with the blank screen, the hard drive activity light is sometimes still flashing. This happens predictably when I try to log off (as opposed to shutting down) and when I use Totem media player and click on anything inside the Totem window. The motherboard has built-in graphics and brief specifications can be found here:
http://uk.ts.fujitsu.com/rl/servicesupport/techsupport/professionalpc/ESPRIMO/Datasheets/ds_esprimo_edition_e2500.pdf
Yesterday my PS/2 keyboard started causing the motherboard to beep crazily when I use it. It beeps rapidly 4 times, then prints the expected character. However, the problem doesn't occur at the initial log in screen. The mouse cursor has also gone beserk on one occasion, flying all over the screen (I had this problem with a previous PC, but a different OS, and thought it was a hardware fault, which I why I got this new computer). With the keyboard problem, the machine is basically unusable. However, it is configured as a dual boot machine, and the keyboard problem isn't present with Windows XP.
There are also a few smaller, odd problems. Occasionally all the icons vanish from my Gnome desktop. The command prompt also mysteriously changed from $chris@pluto to $bash-4.1 just before the keyboard problem appeared, although that might have had something to do with me copying my home directory to a different disk and editing the /etc/auto_home file (moving the home directory worked fine). Also, unlike with Solaris 9 SPARC, I find that I have to have external SCSI devices switched on at boot time, should I want to use them later. That's a pain. With Solaris 9, I could run "boot -r" when I first attached the device, then switch on the SCSI devices and mount them whenever I wanted.
After the useful advice I received here about "more" and "less", I thought I'd post these problems and see if anyone can help. I'd really appreciate some advice. Can anyone identify likely causes for these problems? Which problems can I expect to solve and which do I have to live with?
Many thanks,

Problems installing on COMPAQ 5253 ( Presario )
I cant install solaris 8 on my COMPAQ Presario 5253 with follow configuration:
K6II 450Mhz
128 MB ram
8GB Disk
DVDRom Drive
I have a partition ( 6GB ) for windows 98. The left space is unpartitioned. I try install by 2 way but both cause problems as following:
1- Boot from Software CD 1 of 2
=====================
Booting by CD display messages about booting Intel Solaris 8, etc..., but hangs with the following message before display the menu for choose the type of installation ( 1-interactive 2-jumpstart):
Runtime error R6003
integer divide by 0
The root filesystem is not mounted and the configuration assistant has exited prematurely.
Booting is unlikely to succeed. CTR-ALT-DEL may be used to reset the machine.
Failover to boot interpreter - type ctrl-d to resume boot
2- Boot from diskette: Device Configuration assistant
======================================
The system boot, recognize all devices and when I select my CD drive to boot and press F2_continue, Solaris start the boot process and when try to load Solaris Kernel hangs with a CORE DUMPED message. This error occurrs exactly after a animated backslash ( /\- animated shapes in loop ) is displayed for some time.
I dont know what I can do to install my system. Thanks in advance if anyone can help me...
Gilsomar N ResendeI solved both problems as follows:
1- Boot from software CD 1 of 2
========================
System boot from software CD and after some screens it shows a RUN-TIME error R6003.
I changed IDE configurations for:
HD - IDE 1 master
CD - IDE 2 slave
Zip - IDE 3 secondary master
DVD - IDE 4 secondary slave
In my old configuration, CD was configured as IDE 3 secondary master and ZipDrive as IDE 2 slave. After this change the system boots without problems.
2- Boot from diskette: Device Configuration assistant
======================================
After solving problem 1, the installation halt at same point ( booting from CD or Diskette ). When Device configuration Assistant shows all devices that my system had, I removed the configuration for the LAN adapter. After this the installation occurs without problems.
Im sure that I have problems with the driver for my LAN adapter. Ill check on compatibility list and buy another that can be used instead.

Hi all,
Sylonious, did you manage to sort this problem out? I have been experiencing similar problems. I think my problem was because I had many different versions of JDKs. I have done a complete re-install. I would be really grateful to you (and anyone else) for help with this problem.
I have re-installed JSDK1.4.2_03, set the "path" variable to "C:\JSDK1.4.2_03".
When I compile using "javac" I get an error saying "javac" is not recognised.
When I compile using "C:\j2sdk1.4.2_03\bin\javac Freq.java" no error is thrown.
Every time I try to run a java file, I always get the NoClassDefFound error. When run with the -verbose option, files are loaded from C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\bin - is this correct?
I have removed all previous references to java in the registry editor.
Please help !

Problems installing Adobe Air and BBC iPlayer Desktop
Problems installing Adobe Air and BBC iPlayer Desktop
I'm running Windows 7 32 bit on an ASUS netbook with 2mb ram. I installed both Air 3.7 and BBC iPlayer Desktop using Google Chrome. I downloaded 3 BBC programmes. Two ran fine but the third wouldn't start and I kept getting a message to try again later. I deleted this programme and downloaded it again, with the same result.
So I uninstalled both Air and the BBC iPlayer Desktop, the Air exe file and the two folders at the following locations:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\AIR\ and
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\BBCiPlayerDesktop.xxx
Since doing this each time I try to install Air either on its own or with the BBC iPlayer software I get the message part way through installation:
"Sorry, an error has occurred.
An error occurred while installing Adobe AIR. Installation may not be allowed by your administrator. Please contact your administrator."
I have run the Microsoft Fix it programme and still get the same result.
I have tried everything on your Trouble Shooting page apart from the bit about the elevated command prompt, but as I'm the sole user and administrator, that seems unnecessary.
I have closed Chrome and tried installation using Windows Explorer but with the same result.
I have tried all the above with Microsoft Security Essentials running and disabled. And I have tried the same with Astrill on and off.
I have had a response from the BBC with much the same advice as appears on your trouble shooting page.
Here is the Air installation log, followed by the MSI log.

Sol 10 X86 with Qlogic 1280 controller
Sol 10 X86 installation problem: System has two internal disks, 1 quantum SCSI 6 gb, which was UNconnected. One Seagate 18 GB SCSI from Qlogic 1280 controller with Sol 9 installed. Disconnected Seagate to play with the old Quantum drive. Problem was the Qlogic controller driver. Installation failed after numerous attempts. I finally decided to install Sol 9 on Quantum and try an upgrade. Sol 9 succeeded but 10 failed, still due to the 1280 driver, which is downloaded from Qlogic and installed to a diskette with dd. Tried downloading the driver again to see if there was an upgrade. The product is discontinued. The driver is for up to Sol 9.
Finally gave up and decided to make the Quantum drive non bootable and try to incorporate it into the Sol 9 installation on the Seagate disk with DiskSuite. Ran fdisk and deleted the boot partition on the Quantum. Reconnected Seagate drive and booted with both drives powered up. System failed to boot at all. Now my primary drive is trashed somehow. I went through another Sol 9 installation on Seagate, using the preserve data option. Still wouldn't boot as of last night. Gotta love this.Sol 10 X86 installation problem: System has two internal disks, 1 quantum SCSI 6 gb, which was UNconnected. One Seagate 18 GB SCSI from Qlogic 1280 controller with Sol 9 installed. Hi there,
Has anyone compiled MySQL on Sol.7 x86?
When I try that, I failed at configuration phase, I got the zero size of "char" error, and MySQL suggested me
to check "libm.a" and I've found it's right there, "/lib" and "/usr/lib"
So what caused the "zero size of char" error?
(The GCC I used is 2.95.2)
Thanks for any help! After some troubleshooting and a bit of luck, the problem is the following:
The December update KB3008923 (Cumulative Update for IE December 2014) was causing the problem on IE9.
The update released on January 2015 KB3025945 is fixing the issue.
This is not an update available through WSUS so you have to look for it at
http://catalog.update.microsoft.com.
There is a bit more information, the problem is recurring but I did not found which task was causing the error so it was not only the installation that was causing the problem. After installing the KB3008923, the problem was present on any x86 Windows 7
computer running any version of configMgr agent (tested on 2012 SP1 and 2012 R2).
After installing the January update, the problem is gone.

Motorola Surfboard SBG6590 installation cd says "Problem installing Adobe Air"
When I attempt to install the software which came on the installation cd for my Motorola Surfboard SBG6590, it gives the following message: "Problem installing Adobe Air. There was a problem installing Adobe Air". After I saw this message the first time, I went to Adobe's site and downloaded air from a browser and it said that air was successfully installed. When I reattempted to install the cd, it gave the same failure message about "Problem installing Adobe Air". I tried uninstalling Adobe Air and reinstalling and I still get the same problem. I have a mac OS x version 10.5.8. The version of air that I downloaded is 2.5.1 for MacOS.
The script gives the following error: "AppleScript Error. Finder got an error: A privilege violation occurred."
Script editor displays in the event log:
tell application "Finder"
do shell script "test -d /Applications/Adobe || mv /Applications/Adobe /Applications/Adobe-Backup > /dev/null 2>&1 &" with administrator privileges
"Finder got an error: A privilege violation occurred."
The installation script did not prompt for my administer password, so perhaps that could be the problem?
I am unable to rename or delete a file called /Applications/Adobe, because no such file exists. This is a folder on my machine containing Acrobat.
$ ls /Applications/Adobe*
/Applications/Adobe:
Acrobat.com.app Flash Player
/Applications/Adobe Reader 9:
Adobe Reader.app Icon? ReadMe.html
$ ls /Applications/Utilities/Adobe*

/Applications/Utilities/Adobe Utilities.localized:

I'm not sure why, but when I open the Console application, it busy waits and won't let me see any logs, so instead here is some relevant lines from my /var/log/system.log. Since it looks like my system cleans up this file every morning, I did a fresh uninstall of Adobe Air and reinstalled it just now:

I have Photoshop Elements 11 installed but Premiere Elements will not install due to the problem installing shared technologies. I would appreciate any suggestions as to how to fix the issue. I tried the installation several times.
205EdMLewis
On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 11 running on? For now I will assume Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit. Are you installing the program from
an installation disc or from installation files?
The Shared Technologies error is an old story that afflicts several versions of Premiere Elements on several different computer operating systems. My encounters with this error
have been using installation disc for the program involved.
There are numerous home remedies. The one that has been working for me lately and consistently has been the disabling of the OOBE Folder which is found
Local Disk C
Program Files (x86)
Common Files
Adobe
and in the Adobe Folder is the OOBE which you disable by changing the folder name from OOBE to OLDOOBE.
Please let us know if that worked for you.
Do not give up.
