  • Problem installing ActiveX viewer in Windows 7

    Hello,
We downloaded the public beta of Windows 7 today and I am getting an error in our web application when it tries to install the Crystal Reports XI ActiveX report viewer (version 11.0.0.1424 of crviewer.dll).  IE8 will issue its normal prompt to ask you if you want to install the control, but after that, the little object image in the upper-left corner of the page turns to a red X.
I tried using the sample code which comes with Crystal XI (SimplePreviewReport.asp in the "BeginHere" folder) and that had the same problem.  I put some debug code into SmartViewerActiveX.asp and found that I was getting an "ActiveX component can't create object" error on this line:
         Set webBroker = CreateObject("CrystalReports11.WebReportBroker.1")
I don't think it's a security issue because I am an administrator on the machine and I didn't have any problems installing other ActiveX controls.  I tried running the web site in both the Local Intranet zone as well as the Trusted Sites zone.  I'm also thinking that the issue is more with Windows 7 than IE8 because I have IE8 Beta 2 installed on a Windows XP machine and the Crystal ActiveX viewer installs just fine there.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

XI R2 is more then an incremental update in some aspects to XI R1. They are officially versioned 11 and 11.5 and XI R2 is considered a new release. However in most aspects to a Crystal R1 customer XI R2 doesn't offer much more in functionality other than it is more up-to-date and is still receiving updates and patches.
With out looking at Operating Systems or other factors I generally recommend R1 customers move to R2 so they are kept up-to-date. However being an new version that does mean you will need to update your projects to call the R2 runtime, and then you can use the R2 merge modules.
As for how R2 merge modules work with Windows 7 I cannot say. We will have to wait until Windows 7 final build comes out before we will get a list of supported products on this Operating System, and this can take upwards of 3 months after the OS is released. I would hazard a guess (NOTE: GUESS is the important word here) that R1 and R2 will not be certified with Windows 7. This does not mean it will not work, but does mean it will not be tested and if errors are found that are particular to this OS they will not be fixed.
Remember that this is just a guess, based on R2 being 3 years old and nearing end of its patch cycle and Windows 7 being at least 4 months away. However this cannot be concidered an official statement it is just my personal opinion. Enough caveats there?

  • Problems installing OBIEE 11g on Windows Server 2008 64 bit

Hi, I'm trying to install OBIEE 11g on Windows Server 2008 64 bit (standard edition, SP2), and it's blowing up running the installer. The installer gets past the first couple of "info" screens, but blows up prior to coming to the first "real" screen with an error:
    Microsoft Visual C++ Assertion Failed:

    File: ../../../src/share/native/sun/font/t2k/t2kstrm.c
    Line: 132
    Expression: pos <= t->maxPos
Has anyone seen this and/or have an idea how to work around this? Note that I did do the prerequisite download / install of the 2005 Visual C++ 64 bit libraries.
    Thanks,
    Scott

Just to close the loop on this thread, this does indeed seem to be some sort of font / java issue on our servers. I've been completely unable to get the install to work using the GUI. However, if I run it from command line using the -silent and -response paramaters along with a proper response file, the install went perfectly. I'm going to continue working the SR with Oracle - don't want to be stuck using -silent mode when things get more complicated, but at least now I can move forward.
If anyone else has a better workaround - please let me know. "Silent" mode is workable, but difficult and time consuming.
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • Multiple problems installing upgrade from CS5 Design Prem. to CS6 Design Prem.

I had started a thread a few days ago regarding problems that I was having while installing my upgrade from CS5 Design Premium to CS6 Design Premium.  Everything seemed to install fine with the exception of Acrobat X Pro.  http://forums.adobe.com/message/4716847#4716847
I thought that I had resolved the issue through tech support, but apparently not.  First of all, they had me install the trial version of Acrobat X which actually let me install with no errors. A couple of days passed and Acrobat asked if I would like to continue my trial or enter a serial number. I tried to use my serial that came with my upgrade but it rejected it, so I opted to continue the trial.  Then earlier today as I was working in InDesign, upon launching I got a script error message.
    Error in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Startup Scripts CS6\Flash\Flash-12.0.jsx
    Line 153: if( app.name = = flashAppname && (module.name = = 'DefaultScript' II module.name = = 'Flash'))
    Cannot open resource file.
After clicking OK it seemed to open InDesign fine and I was able to open files and go about working. While working I noticed that I had no effects in the dropdown menu under 'Object'. Tried the shortcut for them and nothing happened.  I have yet to try to open any files containing effects (drop shadow or something) but am guessing that they will not work. My next course of action was to try to Uninstall and Re-Install. I removed CS6 and Acrobat X Pro from my computer and ran the Creative Suite Cleaner program. Then instead of installing the upgrade from the DVD, I decided to download the program from the Adobe LWS and give that a go thinking that maybe the download files are more up-to-date than the DVD that I recieved.  Now it seems I am back to square one with the same problems (InDesign missing 'Effects' and who knows what else, and Acrobat X Pro failed to install), but this time I have diffent errors on the "error summary file" that shows up as a link in the "Installation Complete" dialog box. Sorry for being windy, but I really need to get this resolved. Thanks for any and all input.  PC is Dell Precision T3500 running Windows 7 and is current on it's updates.

  • Problems installing Hyper-V on Windows 8.1

I was trying to set up a Mobile Development Environment in my system with Windows 8.1. I did not that know it was not a PRO version and I never wanted that PRO version until this point.
Windows emulator requires Hyper-V as a pre-requisite and Hyper-V cannot be installed in Windows 8.1 (it requires Windows 8.1 pro or higher)
Now, the only option that I see is, format the PC and fresh install Windows 8.1 Pro or higher but this is not a viable option to me because this is a working machine and it will waste my a day or two in configuring the environment.
Isn't there a standalone installer for Hyper-V where I should not format/reinstall my OS ?
Any help/suggestions will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kushal.

Quite honestly, upgrading to Pro is the way to have Client Hyper-V on your workstation.
Because the Phone Emulator MUST be installed on the same workstation as Visual Studio - it cannot be remote in any way.  It must be local.  That is a requirement of the phone emulator.
And, in reality, this problem is not a Hyper-V issue, it is an issue of a dependency of the emulator, which in turn hits a requirement for Pro, which was a licensing / marketing decision.
    The emulator requirements:

  • Problems installing CA-42 on windows 7

I updated my system to windows 7. All other softwares I installed work fine but not the Nokia stuff.
First I tried to install Nokia PC Suite most updated version, which downloaded from the site.
When it didn't work I removed it and installed the Nokia_Connectivity_Cable_Driver_eng_us.msi. It didn't work as well.
I also tried to do many other things such as installing the software from the CD, connecting and installing, installing and connecting, and many other strange things.
I always reboot before and after, I always removed leftovers before trying a new thing, I always removed the driver that was installed wrong.
And I ALWAYS get the ! next to the driver and the massage that windows couldn't install it properly
    what should I do?!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    12th Jan, 2010
I had problems with this same cable and software but I got it to work.  I know you are Windows 7 users.  I am XP SP3 user with Nokia 6101 phone, but maybe you might get a clue from this.
Ok guys let's see if this helps...  the problem is NOT Nokia PC Suite, the USB to Nokia Enhancement connector ie; the CA-42 data cable, your cell phone or your computer.  It's in your computer' settings...
The answer to this problem with this particular cable is actually in the Nokia PC Suite "Help".  It's  under "Configuring connection types"  They refer to it by name.
Unfortunately, (1) you kinda have to stumble into it... thank goodness I did and,   (2) you kinda have to be a bit of a computer geek to understand what they are trying to say...
The point is that they are basically tricking the computer to "see" the USB cable as a 9 or 25 pin serial DIN cable connection that would normally go into the COM1 or COM2 ports, which are still on the back of some PCs, but not available on modern laptops anymore.
My PC is Windows XP Service Pack 3.  I will describe what I had to do to get the cable to work.  Vista and Windows 7 users… just follow the principle.
You need to (1) configure Nokia PC Suite as well as (2) your PC/Laptop (in Control Panel) to "see" the USB connection as - COM3... here's how I did it for my PC.
Step - 1:  Install the CA-42 Cable Drivers first using the install CD that was provided with the cable using "Found New Hardware"  remember this is the XP experience...
Some preamble - I thought that installing the Nokia PC Suite does all the cable driver bits as well, but it looks like you actually have to install the cable drivers (Note – cable drivers first) and then the Nokia PC Suite app software separately.  I got a “file not found error - ser2pl.sys” installing Nokia PC Suite.  You don’t get that when you let the “Found New Hardware” wizard install it from the install CD. Don't restart your computer until the end of this rather lengthy two-step process... just click "Restart later"...  I'll tell you when to restart...
START POINT (Still Step 1) - Ok, so now we are starting....
    Shut down your system...
Plug in the CA-42 USB cable into a USB port.  Important here… if you have a PC, decide on which USB port you are going to use ie; front or back USB ports.  If you successfully install the cable drivers on one USB port, you cannot go taking out the USB cable and sticking it into another USB port on the same computer.  You will lose the cable driver install completely.  However if you plug the USB cable back into the original USB port used to install the cable driver software, it will re-appear in “Device Manager”.  Maybe it does the same with laptops as well, I do not know..
Turn on your system...  do not connect your phone to the CA-42 cable yet.
On restarting, Windows will find new device (CA-42 USB to Serial), try to install it automatically and come back and say... it was not installed properly (probably because of COM port conflicts)... let that finish, close it off and ....
While that was happening a "Found New Hardware"  wizard will appear...let it happen.. do not close this.. let it sit and wait, we want to use this.... it is going to ask for the install CD, but guess what... when you insert the install CD (at least, if it's the same as the on I got) it’s going to kick off yet another install process.
Put the supplier's install CD in your player, that is going to kick off the CD's automatic install (autorun.inf),  cancel it off.. do not run the automatic CD's install, it will not work !.  Continue with Found New Hardware and let Windows find the CA-42 cable drivers on the install CD (from your drive D: or whatever) and install… do not restart your computer yet.
At the end of this, if you check Settings - Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager - Ports (COM & LPT),  you should see an entry for - "CA-42 USB (COM something).  That COM something will probably be COM1 or COM2.  Highlight this and right click.. go Properties, Port Settings, Advanced – In XP, there is a box to select “COM Port No.”  Set this to COM3.  The driver should say that the “device is working properly”.  Click Apply, OK and exit Control Panel….  Do not restart yet..
So now we have XP set… let’s set the app…. Nokia PC Suite
STEP 2 – Setting Nokia PC Suite.
Some preamble - In July 2009, I bought version 6.4.8 of Nokia PC Suite with the CA-42 cable.  I installed it and I was unable to get the cell phone to see “Nokia PC Suite”.  After much trial and error, I flung it aside.
Well this past weekend , I decided to have another go at it.
I uninstalled it and downloaded and installed a more recent version from Nokia’s support site… version 7.1.40.1  … cell phone still giving “Enhancement not supported” message.  Could not believe that I was that unlucky…
Again after much trial and error, I got it to work – a classic case of the simplest thing being so darn difficult…. So here goes..
Download the latest version of  “Nokia PC Suite”, if the version you get is the one I got (7.1.40.1), , then you need to -
Do not connect the CA-42 cable to your phone yet.  It should be connected to your computer on the USB end in it’s original install USB port !!
Start up Nokia PC Suite - Go Settings, Manage Connections
Tick off only “Serial Cable (CA-42), this should be in the list assuming you installed it correctly in Step 1
Highlight it and the little spanner (Configure) at the bottom should now be enabled
Click on Configure.. the little spanner
If it is saying “COM1” click on the little down arrow to the right.  COM3 should come up in the list
Click on COM3… stop right here,  do nothing
NOW….  you plug in the Enhancement end of the cable into your phone.  If it still gives the “Enhancement not Supported” error, don’t panic.  Make sure the cable is into the phone nice and secure.  By the way, this cable tends to get “Disconnected” with the slightest movement of my almost 4yr old Nokia 6101.  Make sure you are not using the phone and the phone is in standby mode.  The phone MUST NOT be in “Contacts” or some other menu available in the phone otherwise it will not connect to Nokia PC Suite… STANDBY MODE please… I am sure I frustrated myself unintentionally by not paying attention to this detail.
Right, NOW you click on OK (the green check mark) … assuming everything else was done properly, after about 10 seconds, the model no. of your phone should appear in Nokia PC Suite.  If you get this, you are going to have a blast with this software.
So cool – using my PC….. I have since been able to delete off a lot of junk (from inbox, outbox, images etc) and free up valuable memory, amend Contacts info, do a full backup of my phone onto my PC, load in a truncated MP3 file of Doobie Brothers, "China Grove" as my ringtone (...made it myself with a free MP3 editor - 1st 30 seconds – 433Kb… yeah huge… but worth it) etc…
Still getting the hang of this software…. The only digital camera I have is the one on my phone, so now that I can take pics and get them into my PC so easily, I am going to have a lot of fun with this software as well as with other aspects of it that I am not aware of yet..  I still have to install some kind of “Modem” drivers from the CD, and there is something about upgrading your phone software…..
It has only been three days since I got it to work but, folks..  This Nokia PC Suite is outraaaaaageous.  !!!!!!!!
Oh I forgot…. Now you can restart your computer.
PS.. Whenever I restart/shutdown my system, I have to go and do the COM1 to COM3 part again in Nokia PC Suite when I turn it back on.  I have not found a way to save the setting.  Will try to attach a pic (yep….  taken with my phone, and downloaded into my PC !!!) of the CA-42 cable and CD that I got.
    Hope this helps..
The "Add Attachments" below button is not giving me any feedback.... some help please ?
Also - I use UNIBLUE's "RegistryBooster" to freshen up my XP SP3 registry.  Works fine for me.

  • Problems Installing iTunes 10 with Windows Vista

I am running Windows Vista (32 bit) and have installed iTunes 10. Any time I try to launch iTunes I receive the following message: "iTunes needs to be repaired to work with Vista. Use the 'Programs and Features' control panel to repair iTunes."
The bigger problem is when I open the Programs and Features control panel, iTunes is not listed as a program. All of the other iTunes components are listed(Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software Update, Bonjour). However, I can see iTunes (version 10) in the C:>Programs Files>iTunes folder, just not in the control panel.
I was going to attempt to uninstall and reinstall as numerous posts have suggested, however, since the program does not appear in the control panel, I have not been able to uninstall it.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  • Problems installing PalmDesktopWin414e on Windows Vista 64

My Palm is Tungsten E and my current operating system is Windows Vista 64 in Portuguese(Brazil). I did install the program PalmDesktopWin414e and at the end, after the installation completes OK for the Palm software, begins the installation of the Hot Sync and tells me to start a synchronization to complete the installation. At that point Windows Vista appears and try to install the driver for the new hardware and “looked” at: Windows up date, ask me to put the original disk, look for a solution at the Internet, and at the end says that can’t install the new hardware because could not find the driver for it and suggest me to contact the hardware manufacture. At that point I can open the Palm software but I can not synchronize, every time that I try it begins the same attempt to install the driver for the new hardware and again failure at the end. Unnecessary to say that all my important data are at the Tungsten E and I need to synchronize in order to keep using it. I would appreciate very much if someone could help me installing this device.
    Post relates to: Tungsten E
    Post relates to: Tungsten E

Thank you for your quick answer Mr AlanG. I have to tell you that I did try to point to driver’s folder, and also to the original installation CD and nothing. Otherwise the final part of your message is the answer for the problem, “Palm Desktop isn't supported on the 64-bit versions of Windows XP” well considering that it won’t work on Widows XP 64 it is sure that will not work on Windows Vista 64.
I want to remember that Windows Vista 64 is every Windows Vista version (Ultimate, Business, Home Premium, Home Basic, etc) installed in a modern motherboard.
    When PALM on http://www.palm.com/us/support/windowsvista/index.html says:
Palm Desktop versions 4.1.4e and 4.2 will install on Windows Vista and will synchronize Personal Information Manager (PIM) items including Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Memos.
It is not true because only will install on older motherboards that has Windows Vista 32 installed. You (Palm) should correct this because you are selling handhelds that do not work on Windows Vista installed on modern motherboard or you (Palm) should work quickly on a software that works on Windows Vista 64 and put it on the site for free download.
    Kindly

hello all , i got mine up and running late last night and thought that since it drove me nuts i would share how i did it with others having the same problem, for fyi i am using a sony clie sj22 and hotsyncing with an usb cable for reference with palm OS4.0 i think.
    1. dont install the software just yet please follow
2.let palm desktop thru thye firewall program and make an exception for it there.
    3. disable and antivirus software as it sees palm as a threat.
4.now install palm desktop i used my old version palm desktop 4.0 BUT DONT INSTALL THE PROGRAM IN PROGRAM FILES try somewhere else like documents( this i read on another site where someone tried it but failed there).
5.now turn on your palm pda and open up hotsync page, up in the upper left screen corner touch the hotsync tab and down should come a sub menu, form here you need to set up all of your conduits, modem sync preferencesmconnection setup etc make sure they are set for how you will be hotsyncing.
6.now open up the desktop program and on your toolbar you should see the hotsync icon click on this and set  set the options here.
7.now you should be able to hotsync(communicate) from the pda to the computer .
Hope this helps , sorry that some one like me had to figure it out by staying up late until i got it .
MICROSOFT apparently doesnt care if you fix it that way you bite the bullet and buy a windows mobile device.
