Problems Installing VPN Client on Intel iMac Core Duo

We tried installing the VPN Client software (v.4.9.00.0050) on an Intel Core Duo iMac by dragging the application into the applications folder on the hard drive. When trying to start VPN Client, it gave a message referring to "architecture not supported) and wouldn't start up. We have installed this successfully on other macs outside our office without problems. Does anyone have any suggestions?

For such appkcation to work in a platfrom you need to install the application using the stansard installer supplied with the application.

  • Intel iMac Core Duo: iSight/iChatAV 3 Focus Problems

My dad and I have matching Intel iMac's with same RAM etc. What I am finding with iChatAV in a 1-on-1 video chat is that in the little window that shows me what I look like, my video looks awesome, yet my dad's video looks quite out of focus. He experiences the same thing on his end. He looks fine, and I am out of focus. We are both trying iGlasses as well because the iSight is just too dang dark on its own.
Now when I had my PowerBook G4, Panther, and an external iSight whenever I chatted with buddies both my video and theirs looked AWESOME. Almost like watching HDTV.
This is very strange. I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing this in iChat under the new Intel iMac's, as this is VERY unacceptable quality. I'm sure it cannot be a bandwidth issue as we both have 7Mbps downstream and 1Mbps upstream. And the quality I saw on the Keynote was much better than this.
Anyone else used both cameras and is finding this with the new Intel's?

Thank you, I had looked there and musta missed the 480Mb/s rating. So yes that is USB 2.0.
There is a article at CNet comparing the two cameras:
    "In summary:
    1) The external isight camera is very good (Firewire, F2.8 glass lens, auto-focus, CCD, 30 fps).
    2) The internal isight is quite poor in comparison (USB, plastic lens, fixed-focus, CMOS sensor)."
I tried a few chats with other people using new iMac's today, with the same poor results. It is an inferior camera, hands down.

  • Finder/Help Blank, Jumpy or Missing on Intel iMac Core Duo

I'm trying to access the 'help' menu in the finder. I get a variety of problems but generally the help menu is blank or does a merry dance whenever I try and use it. In particular, the second item on the help menu is the offending one "...Work, Play .... It appears to have a missing icon - which is replaced by a '?'.
I've tried most of the so-called solutions including an erase/reinstall but to no avail. They DO NOT HELP. This has been the case since day 1.

PS. Please do not delete/archive or mark as 'solved' until it really is. Thanks.

    Mind if I try, Al?
    Hi Spetsnaz, try this:
Navigate to ~(yourhome)/library/caches and delete this folder:
    com.apple.helpui folder.
Try Help. Did that solve the problem? If not:
Navigate to ~(yourhome)/library/preferences and delete the following files:
    com.apple.help.plist
    com.apple.helpui.plist
    com.apple.helpviewer.plist
Log out and back in or restart.
    Let us know.
I'm not sure about any Intel specific issues but this might help.

  • Intel iMac Core Duo will not accept OS 10.4.8 update

In a rash moment I once more decided to respond to Software Update's continual reminder that I have not updated to OS 10.4.8. I tried twice before and each time resulted in disaster with what I have been told is a kernel panic. During boot-up the screens wipes to grey with a black square saying 'RESTART'.
Then follows days of scouring backups to get everything back again. Well it just did it again. Why will it not accept the (Combo or Delta) update. Some have pointed fingers at RAM but why should the RAM work fine for more than a year and suddenly not for OS 10.4.8 and then work fine again once it has all been retreated to OS 10.4.7 ?

This is all just too weird !
The Apple Hardware Test CD would not run. I tried twice. It got as far as the 'probe' and didn't get any further.
Swapped out the 2 x 1Gb RAM cards for the original (piddling) 2 x 256Mb and tried the AHT again. It ran and found no problems.
AHA ! So it was the memory all along.
Put the 2 x 1Gb cards back in and ran AHT. It ran and found no problems
Okay, let's try the new 10.4.9 update via Software Update.
SAME THING AS BEFORE. Grey screen with the little black one saying restart.
Okay I'll put the 2 x 256Mb cards in and see if it manages to start. Before doing so I gave it one more try and after a self-induced restart halfway through boot-up it started - with the 2 x 1Gb memory.
Went back to Software Update and found a Java update and Airport. Ran them and when it restarted we were back to the Grey 'panic screen'. Tried once more - same thing. Swapped memory for the 2 x 256 and the iMac started. Tried a restart just to make sure. Back to the panic screen.!
removed and replaced the 2 x 256Mb and it started up. Restarted - Panic Screen.
Put in 2 x 1Gb - it started. Restarted - Panic Screen again. Replaced 2 x 256 - started. Restarted - Panic. Restarted - It fired up. Now I'm writing this whilst it is on because I cannot guarantee it will restart without swapping memory or reseating it or maybe just ******* into the wind.
Poxy **** thing can't make up its mind. There is no pattern.

  • Imac intel 2 core duo running at 117 Fº. Is this healthy?

my imac intel 2 core duo running at 117 Fº. Is this healthy? The fan speeds are ODD: 998 CPU: 1198 HDD: 1199.

What you need to understand is that your processor has two different temperatures. The temperature that escapes when it leaves the processor dye is called the t case. The temperature for each core is called the tcore. If your processor temp were to be a problem one or two things can happen. The system will shut down immediately to protect itself. For quad core temperatures for example, it will shut itself down at some point at 75-80 degrees Celcius. Operating temperature of about 40-60 C when the system is fully stressed is a target temperature.

  • My 2011 intel dual core duo iMac apparently has "Airport" ans apparently it is "on" although the icon (upper right) is gray. I'm not sure what "airport" is

My 2011 intel dual core duo iMac apparently has "Airport" ans apparently it is "on" although the icon (upper right) is gray. When I click on the <gray> airport icon it says it's "on" and the option is to turn it off.
I'm not sure what "airport" is, and I have no idea what a router is supposed to accomplish. I got a "smartphone" (not an iPhone, an android) and at a "Smartphone class" at the senior center I was told I need a router.

    Oly wrote:
OK, so, in installing a router could I attach the router to my Verizon DSL modem and have the iMac get it's internet from the router by wi-fi?
This way I could place the router 1/2 way between the only two places in my home where wifi devices (wife's tablet, my iMac) are.
    Yes, exactly.
For the router I suggest you consider one of the three Apple AirPort Base Stations, not only because it will be easier to get help with using them on this website, but they are generally regarded as the most reliable wireless routers. Technical support directly from Apple is free for the first 90 days.
Slightly cheaper alternatives exist. I have tried other manufacturer's wireless routers, and I don't recommend them.

How can i Install leopard 10.6 on this imac, please give me the link also to osx 10.6

You can purchase 10.6 from the Apple on-line store for $30.  Also, OWC, www.macsales.com sells it for $26.
You would be better off with more memory, 2-4 GB would be important.

    Problems installing OS
I have an iMac 21.5 (mid-2010) and I'm trying to install a new hard drive.  When I choose the installation disk the Apple logo comes up and it stops there.  Then the mouse and keyboard goes dead.  I'm trying to install 10.6.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Since you have a new hard drive, there is nothing on it, so you need to boot from an external source (and probably format the hard drive before installing an OS). Are you booting from the 10.6 install disk? Better yet - do you have a bootable backup clone or at least a Time Machine backup?

  • I have installed Lion on an iMac Core duo by mistake - how do I rectify..?

I have installed Lion on an iMac Core Duo, via firewire from an iMac i7.
The Core Duo now goes to grey screen, folder with "?", then the "prohibited" sign for a 30 secs and then turns off,
(I now realise Lion is 64bit and the core duo only supports 32bit...).
The core duo will chime but will not boot off the original install disk or mount as a fire wire target disk.
How do I wipe Lion and reinstall Leopard...?

    Sounds like hardware error.
Maybe the target-mode did something bad to the EFI, like fed it 210 proof "Everclear" ...
Try a diferent USB keyboard ...
Last resort for me before Genius Bar is either SMC Reset (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964) and/or PRAM reset (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mh26871.html).
I am out of ideas if the resets cannot bring back "C" boot.

  • Imac Core Duo Crashing ......A Cry For Help

I received my eagerly awaited iMac core duo 17' 160gb. I took it out of the box and it work away fine. When I was installing Norton Anti Virus the installer quit before the full install was complete. I then restarted the iMac and the welcome to OS X progress bar completes and after that all that appears is a blue screen. I do have mouse movement but no login window appears. I have tried reinstalling the OS X software from the software restore disc that came with the iMac but this did not fix the problem. I then opened disk utilty on the the software restore disk and did what first aid was available on this disk, but again no fix. I tried booting from a Disk Warrior bootable disk but this disk will not boot. Through total desperation I opened disk utilty on the restore disk and went to intialise the drive, but the drive will not erase.
All suggestions of a fix or any assistance in fixing this issue would be greatly appreciated. To say that I an frustrated, stressed and demented over this would be a understatement.
    Thanks in Advance

Last time I installed Anti-Virus on one of my Mac's. It was a terrible experience on my G5. Not to say AntiVirus is bad to install, but currently there is absolutely no reason to install one.
Really... don't waste money or cpu cycles on antivirus until there is a reason, right now there is this golden halo that protects mac from viruses. I really don't know why mac's rarely if ever have a virus, but I really don't question it either.

  • What will happen if I install Lion on my macbook pro core duo??

What will happen if I install Lion on my macbook pro core duo? I have one of the first Intel MacBook Pro's with a Core Duo processer, I'm having hard drive problems so want to format it and re-install my OS. I can't find my Snow Leopard disk so the easiest thing to do would be to download Lion but I have been told that my MacBook needs to have a Core 2 Duo processer so I just wondered if anyone else has tried Lion on a MacBook like mine??

    Nothing.
Lion will not run on a core duo, it needs a core 2 duo as a minimum
    see Technical Specifications
Also you will need SL running to access the App Store to download Lion. So In a number of ways this won;t work.

  • Nikon Coolscan V ED and iMac Core Duo

Anybody using their Coolscan V ED, or another film or flatbed scanner, with the new iMac Core Duo? I plan purchasing the CS V ED in the very near future, but unsure whether it will work well with the new iMac.

Here is my little exchange with Nikon today...
After they referred me to the FAQ that I already read.
ME: "Thank-you for your reply but I still think you've failed to answer my question. The article you refer me to with your link is main reason I contacted you. I'd like you to escalate this issue to somebody that can answer my questions in more detail...
Which BRAND-NEW Macintosh computers are supported with the Nikon LS5000 scanners?
Does Nikon intend to support Mac? If so, then when, since all new Macintosh computers now have Intel processors?
It's already been four months of new Intel Macs, I'd expect Nikon to have at least some small idea of how much longer would before the Mac platform is again supported?
What's even more disturbing is that I only stumbled upon this issue by browsing this support forum. I was on the verge of purchasing at least four and possibly up to eight scanners and corresponding computers. That would have been a financial disaster for my company considering the lack of support and the seeming lack of concern by Nikon regarding the new Mac computers.
NOWHERE in your sales literature or the Nikon Coolscan website does it say that Macs with Intel processors are not supported. The sales literature only states that Macs require at least a G3 processor or better. Most people would read that and assume that a brand new Mac with the latest processor would be better than a G3.
Shame on Nikon for hiding this issue under the rug and not providing a prompt solution for their very loyal customers."
    NIKON: "Hello,
These days new operating system version pop up every other week.
We strive to keep our products up to date with the latest operating systems out there, and work closely with Microsoft and Apple to see that this support comes as quickly as possible.
Apple is still offering systems with the PowerPC processors, like the iBook G4, Power Book G4, and the Power Mac G5.
As of today, we do not support the new Mac systems with the Intel chipset, but this is currently being looked into. We have no other information to offer at this time.
    Thank you,
    Dave"
ME: "These days new operating system version pop up every other week." LOL- You must be thinking of Windows where there are nearly a dozen versions not counting the new Vista.
But I understand. Nikon is working on it and you have no further information. That's fine.
However, your sales literature is seriously flawed. It says that the scanner will be compatible with a G3 or better processor. If your equipment doesn't work with the newer Intel processor, then it's NOT compatible with a G3 or better; it's ONLY compatible with a G3, G4, & G5.
My complaint is that you should either make a note in your literature at least for your vendors or issue an estimated date of when you're going to fix the problem.
As I explained, this is a PRE-SALES question and your attitude towards me is troubling. I was looking to purchase between four and eight of these scanners and because of inaccurate information in YOUR brochures, I almost purchased thousands of dollars of useless computer systems.
Maybe you should forward my question up the chain of command at Nikon... to somebody that cares more about what POTENTIAL customers think.
Meanwhile, I will post this issue at dozens of Mac user forums so that others don't make a big mistake by thinking a new Nikon scanner will work on their new Mac computer system.
    NIKON: "Hello,
We certainly do care about potential customers, which is why we will not offer any software that is not ready to be released. Software development takes a very long time to finalize, and involves a huge amount of testing before it is published publicly. Our timetable for software release for this new technology is unclear at this point, and we apologize for that.
As for the product literature, it will be updated to include this new item in time, and our vendors are supplied with up to date support information on a regular basis. At the time of publication, all information on the brochures was correct and up to date.
Thank you for pointing that out, however, and I will be happy to pass your comments onto our QA team for review.
    Regards,
    Dave"
I think everyone with a Nikon Scanner who is considering the purchase of an Intel Mac or vice-versa should send Nikon a flood of complaints regarding the issue. How long can this really take them? The new Macs have been out for quite a while now.
In my experience, Nikon has excellent equipment but once they identify an issue, they do nothing to resolve it. It gets swept under until the next scanner is released.
Example: The older LS-4000 scanner had firewire communication "issues". Issues that were never fully resolved but the LS-5000 scanner is now USB-2.0

  • Can't videochat with iMac Core Duo, can with PowerBook G4

Hi everyone. My girlfriend and I live in different time zones, so we've been using iChat (me) and AIM 5.9 (her) for the last year to videochat. My PowerBook's screen died recently, so I bought an iMac Core Duo, and all of a sudden, we can't connect anymore. Here's my setup:
    20" iMac Core Duo:
    Mac OS X 10.4.5, iChat AV 3.1.4
    Connects using wireless
    No firewall
    17" PowerBook G4 1GHz:
Mac OS X 10.4.5, iChat AV (whichever version comes with 10.4.5 for PPC)
    Connects using wireless
    No firewall
    AirPort Express:
Firmware 6.3 (tested with 6.1.1 as well)
    NAT, no port forwarding
Whenever I attempt to videochat with my girlfriend using the iMac, I get an error stating "Prachi Gauriar[me] did not respond." I browsed the discussion boards here and found the testing screen names (thanks Ralph!).
With the iMac, I can connect to Mac users, including appleu3test01, appleu3test02, and friends of mine. I cannot connect to RjinWI PC via AirPort Express (same error as above). It does work when I connect my machine directly to my cable modem.
With the PowerBook, I can connect to both Mac users and RjinWI PC via AirPort Express.
Bottom line: Using the exact same setup on my PowerBook and iMac, the PowerBook works and the iMac doesn't. I suspect this has to do with the new AirPort Extreme cards that are being used in the iMacs, but I'm not sure.
Has anyone worked around this? I'm kind of avoiding setting up port forwarding on the AirPort Express, as it's troublesome and doesn't really seem to be the problem. I'm willing to do it, but I guess I just don't expect it to work, so I'm hoping someone else has another suggestion.

    Hi Rj,
It seems many people are forgetting the tweaks they made to get ichat 3 to work on Tiger on Non intels when they switch.
I would check System preferences > Quicktime and set the Streaming speed to match their download.
Next I would be concerned about iChat Add-ons that are written for PCC (non Intel) code and set iChat to Open With Rosetta in the File menu and re-start iChat
    iChatUSBCam is not ready yet.
    iGlasses is.
    Showmacster seems it is not.
Lastly I would ask how the ports are opened for iChat in the Modem (or Router) IF Port Forwarding are they pointing to the old Mac ?
