Problems installing zen micro softw

Hello
I bought myself recently a new 5GB Zen Micro Silver.
Most went well with installing the drivers and software (besides the fact that Zen Micro Media Explorer doesn't recognize when the zen is connected) and firmware as well.
The problems started when I wanted to update CMS (Creative Media Source) and ZMME (Zen Micro Media Explorer).
I downloaded both softwares from the support section in this site.
When I try to install CMS 3.30.2 , I extracted the files from the .exe , then the installing window goes down to taskbar and nothing! no setup window, no finish message... just nothing. In a quick check on the Task manager, the task is in "Non-responding' status.
When I try to install ZMME (not sure about the version, but it's from July 3 2005), again, it extracts the files from the .exe file , it DOES show a setup window and then suddently another window opens in the task bar, and when I go over it, an error message appears (-50:0x80040707) and closes both windows once I hit "ok".
PLEASE HELP!

Hi,
Sorry to hear you are having problems. Not something I've seen before, I'd say maybe reattempt the download in case of corruption but there are usually CRC errors from the install if that is the case.
A few installation tips would be.
) Turn off programs running inthe background. Run MSCONFIG in Services click the Hide MS Service and deselect all there. In startup turn off (uncheck) all programs there.
2) Try clearingout the c:documents and settings/"username"/local settings/temp folder (its a hidden folder so make sure you have the view all files enabled in Windows Explorer options.
Hope this helps
John

  • Problem installing Zen Micro on XP compu

    Hi,
I recently had a Firmware Problem on my Zen Micro and I was able to fix it by upgrading the Firmware to version 2.2.02.
After doing that my player works fine, but it won't install on my PC (Windows XP). I have tried installing and re-installing all the stuff that came on the original installation CD as well as downloading tons of stuff from creative.com. My guess is that the drivers or something might not?be compatible with my new firmware...
So my computer does detect the Zen Micro when I connect it and 'Found New Harware Wizard' starts. I choose "Install the software automatically" and click "Next". Then the Wizard searches and finds an MTP device (by the way what does MTP stand for?) and tries to install. Then I get this message:
    "Cannot Install this Hardware
There was a problem installing this hardware:
    MTP Device
An error occurred during the installation of the device
The specified service does not exist as an installed service."
What is the "specified service"? What's wrong and what should I do?
Oh,?My Zen Micro is shown in Device Manager, but with the yellow exclamation mark symbol.

    Thanks for your response.
It seems like I cannot download WMP since the Windows Genuine Validation won't work.. Says that I have a pirate copy of Windows although it definiti'vely is real... I guess I should contact Microsoft... This is getting ridiculous, or annoying at least...
Oh, maybe I should mention that I removed WMP from my computer since I was adviced to do so previously. But it should work with WMP0, right Well, can't reload that either because of the validation problem...
I tried downloading Creative Media Source Player/Organizer 5.0.38, but when trying to install I get the following message:
"Setup is unable to detect a supported product on your system".

  • Random Problems with Zen Micro? Try a diff. USB cable

I know people have mentioned this in other posts, but I thought I would reiterate it here. Many people seem to be complaining that their player is not recognized, or only sometimes recognized, or recognized by Windows (as a USB device) but not by their Creative software, or songs won't transfer, etc. Well, I had some similar problems which ALL went away when I started using a different USB cable - the one that shipped with the Micro just doesn't seem to work consistently.
So, if you are having problems with your player that you can't seem to solve any other way, you may want to try a different USB cable. It worked for me.
Hope this helps - I am (now) loving my new Micro!

I tried a different USB cable also, I thought that it would help, but I still got the same problems. I can almost guarantee that although you think you may have solved your issues, they WILL come back.
I've also been experiencing the "Player Not Connected" problem with my Zen Micro.
I've also had the problem where the Zen Micro just freezes in the "Docked" screen even after it has been disconnected from the PC
I've noticed that these are common problems with Zen Micros with the new firmware (.0.03)
My old Zen Micro with the old, original firmware did NOT have this connectivity problem
Creative should investigate these issues associated with this new firmware, or maybe even making the old firmware available for download to see if this really is the source of all these problems.

It won't do anything for speed, but don't let that stop you. Keeping up to date is always a good idea. (If you ever try to copy a +gig file through explorer, you'll be happy you got this.)
If you want speed improvements, and you use DRM content, get the DRM fix. Note that it just corrects the problem on your PC, in order to speed up your device you'll have to format it to get rid of the old multiple root licenses.

  • Problem with Zen Micro Media Explor

I got my Zen Micro the other day, and installed the software, but when i try to load the Zen Micro Media Explorer my computer goes to a blue screen and then restarts. I reinstalled the software but still have the same problem. Please help me!

Try downloading the latest version to see if that has the same problem.
Also turn off automatic restart so you can see what file is giving you the error, if there is a file.

  • Problem with Zen Micro TravelD

I had a 5GB?Zen Micro which started "skipping" when I used it with the TravelDock. I returned the TravelDock for a replacement. The Zen Micro worked fine for several months, then started "skipping" again. Finally, one day while using it in the TravelDock, it froze on re-building library and I was never able to revi've it. Note that I never had any "skipping" problem while using the Zen Micro with the headphones-only with the TravelDock. I bought a second 5GB ZenMicro a month ago. At first, all was fine when I used it in the TravelDock. The last few days, the "skipping" has started again. As with my first Zen Micro, I have no problem with any track when I use the headphones. The skipping while in the TravelDock is not always on the same track, and again, those tracks play fine when I use the Zen Micro with the headphones. Has anyone else had this problem Any ideas Thanks for any help!

I've had the same problem since I got the thing, except that it's SPORADIC. Nine times out of ten I can't connect. I've tried other cables, other PC's without bettering the odds.
    Most of the time:
    () Plug in the Micro.
    (2) Hear the USB connection "bong" sound.
    (3) "MTP Media Player" window opens. "What do you want Windows to do?"
    Take your choice
    * Synchonize Media Files to this device using Windows Media Player
    * Take no action
    (4) It doesn't matter. If I select "media player" it can't find the device. If I select "no action" and then click on "My computer" the flashlight searches, but it can't find it either.
    (5) Note the Micro says "Docked" with solid arrows. It looks connected to me.
    (6) Unplug the Micro.
    (7) The Micro still says "Docked" and now I have to remove the batteries to use it.
I tried e-mail help from creative. They had me try "clean up," they had me try un-installing and re-installing the PC software. None of it made any difference. Finally they suggested reverting back to the old non MTP software. At that point I gave up on them because I had the same problem before I upgraded.
I tried calling creative. They had my try "clean up" which of course did nothing. Finally they said I should exchange the unit. I'm not convinced that would help, and I don't want to be without it for 0-5 days.
Scanning this forum today I see two more suggestions. Let the battery run down a bit before syncing. Don't let the USB root hub turn off the power. I'll try, but I don't have much hope.

  • Big Problem with Zen Micro - won't be detec

    Hello people,
I got a big problem now with my Zen Micro 5GB. Since Saturday I have having my new PC, Fujitsu Scaleo
Intel Pentium D 2,8 GHz dual Processor
    024MB Ram
    PCI-e mainboard
    Ati x700se Video Card
Windows XP with SP2 and several updates were already installed
    Windows Media Player 0
Now, the problem is, I can't really use it on my PC. A few weeks ago I had the very old firmware. But then I thought I update it (why? I don't know...)I Updated to the version ..0 from Jul 05. It worked anyway...
So I plugged in the MP3 player to my new pc but it was not really detected or it did not want to work. When it was plugged in, I couldnt open any program. Even if it was Media Source or Opera or winamp... They did not appear. But they were "open" as they appeared in the task manager. So I couldnt use Media Source. So I tried with Zen Media Explorer, all buttons there were clickable but when I clicked on one butteon (like organize music...) it didnt react...
so I thought: "ok with this firmware, it wont work" So I updated the firmware to 2.2.02 Plays for sure. Neither with the new Media Source on your site nor with Zen Media Explorer (I installed the Update)it does not work. The plays for sure plugin for Media Source wasnt as well helpful. I can drag and drop files on my mp3 player, OK this is one way, but still when it is plugged in, I cant use any other program, as I cant open them.
I dont want to use the drag and drop way as I then have to download a program for editing mp3 tags and I cant as well make playlists...With Media Source it was so easy... I want to use Media Source and I want my PC react even if my Zen Micro is plugged in...
So what to do? I thought about installing the very old firmware what I had before I updated to ..0 but where can I download it's
I hope you can help me
    Regards

MediaSource with the PFS plugin should work, if the player is being detected properly.
Presumably it isn't, so you need to verify this by looking in Device Manager when the player is connected.

  • +++Installing Zen Micro w/o Creative related software?

I was wondering whether Win XP w/ SP2 is able to detect Zen Micro w/o its related software? I would like to use only WMP0 to transfer my songs.....

    Kelly,
I have installed the MTP software as well and it does transfer te playlists from WMP to the Zen Micro. The only problems I have had with the new firmware have not been firmware or Creative related but rather WMP related. It seems to be very picky about what it will transfer if you have it set to automatically convert to WMA-64 to save space. It gets hung up on some files during conversion or takes an unspecified error and skips the file to go to the next. What I actually have ended up doing is loading up MediaSource again without drivers for the player and used it to convert the files I wanted to WMA and then pointed WMP at that folder and it transfers them and the playlists fine. Now that I have read this post I will try Real's player as well to see how it works with it. This has only been a slight frustration though because I am trying to maintain the files in their original format and just conver the ones I am loading now. My wife owns an iPod and can load plenty of files in the higher bit rate that I ripped them off our cds in.Message Edited by AspenWiedii on 0-09-2005 07:09 AM

  • Problems upgrading Zen Micro to Zen Visio

I have recently upgraded from a Zen Micro 5G to a Zen Vision M. I am trying to transfer all tracks.
Since I have installed the disk for Vision M, I have a problem with transferring purchased tracks. A) I cannot upload them to the Vision M;and b) I cannot play them on my computer anymore?? it shows a black cross ? even though they have the full location on the C:\ dri've showingI have tried deleting the track completely from play list and C:\ dri've and then re-downloading from where I purchased from. The Media Source accepts it (i.e. does not advise it is a duplicate) but when I try to play it or transfer to Vision M I get another black cross and it will not let me ? it advises an error has occurred.
I have tried connecting both players and then uploading but I get a message withNOMAD. in.
I have about 50-60 purchased tracks that I want ? even if I could re-purchase them (which I do not want to do!), it looks as if I am not going to be able to Hope someone can help...

Try a reset of the unit and then run, don't walk to nomad.com for a firmware upgrade. That should take care of the problem. Hope that this hel

  • [Edit]Problem with Zen Micro when connected to PC-- cleared but another prob

    Hello,
My problem is that my Computer (winxp, sp2) does not identify my zen micro any longer. few days ago it worked perfectly but now it doesnt work.
my zen micro has the firmware with the MTP/plays for sure
I had installed the things from the cd, when I bought it, that was in the package and then new drivers and the new applications, so two programs. (I had two Zen Micro symbols on my desktop but I could only use the program with MTP)
    it worked fine.
a few weeks ago I had the same problem, but after a few connectings and disconnectings it worked again.
today this doesnt helped. I uninstalled everything what had to do with creative and then only installed new drivers and the newest applications (without the things from the cd).
    it still doesnt work.
when I click on the "Zen Micro Media Explorer (MTP)" on the desktop I can see that my zen micro is connected. When I go to my playlists and click on one, it seems that my playlist is "empty". but in the mp3-player there is the playlist!
when I click on my music folder, where all the music is I see the folders, but when I go into the folders, the folders are also "empty".
what happened? I changed the usb ports--> doesnt work...
what can I do in order to use my zen micro again on the pc. my zen micro works fine(playlists and songs work normally), but I have problems having connected it to my pc... I cannot copy songs and edit my playlists anymore. is there any way to edit the playlists via mp3-player without connecting to the pc?
I hope you have a helping answer for me.

ok guys, I almost solved the problem. I used the rescue mode, used clean up, and now the folders are not empty and I can copy songs into my Zen Micro.
But the playlists are "empty". Also when I want to create a new playlist it says that my mp3-player is not connected ?! But it is! I can copy files into it!
I also cannot synchronize it with WMP0.
I reinstalled software and it didnt help...
So what can I do? It is connected but I cannot edit my playlists.
Is there any way to edit the playlists via the mp3-player and not over the pc?Message Edited by expredator on 02-08-2005 :00 PM

  • Various problems with Zen Micro, but getting smaller and small

Last night I turned on my Zen Micro and heard Led Zeppelin's All of my Love for about 4 seconds before the micro froze and started buzzing, reminding me of my Nintendo when the cartridge was dirty. So I tried restarting it several times and it continued with the same. I left it for the night, since I was at someone else's house and had not installed the new firmware; I needed to be at my laptop to mess around with it. In the morning, I looked up some stuff and found out how to access the recovery mode, which I did. I did all of the options, the last one being to format the hard dri've. I had already erased the firmware, but I formatted the hard dri've after I plugged it into my USB port and saw that it had been corrupted anyways and it was completely empty. Then, seeing as everything was gone anyways, I took the opportunity to download the firmware updates and install them, or at least attempt to. I got a message saying the battery level was too low, and to charge it before installing the firmware. I took out the battery and it ran on main power while I installed the first firmware. Then, I put the battery back in and installed the second firmware (newest) and it gave me the same error message about the level being too low. I took out the battery again, but this time it just turned off. I didn't quite understand so I just went to sleep and left it charging. I woke up and was able to install the firmware. Then I went to Windows Media and synced my library to the Micro. Bad idea. I don't know if it's the same with any of you, but I don't exactly love all the songs in my music library. It took every audio file I have on my computer and put it on the Micro. So I figured I'd just open MediaSource and do the whole editing thing I did before it got busted. That doesn't work because of course the music under Creative Zen Micro is different from the music under PC Music Library which, until today, were identical. Now. All I want to know is how I can look at the music inside my Micro in the same way I would if it were in my PC Music Library, where I have a scroll bar on the side with all the artists and albums and a list of tracks next to it. I need this because instead of everything being free and looking the same way it would in my downloads folder, everything is now in folders by artist name and it will take me forever to figure out which songs I do and do not want. Still, at least I've got it working now.

It shouldn't be, assuming you synced via WMP the contents of the PC Music Library. Ultimately the contents of the PC Music Library is irrelevant though as don't you want to edit the contents of the player? I'm guessing you're using the v2 firmware which makes this a little harder...

You can't. That's the problem with the v2 firmware. You might want to go back to the . firmware. For the differences in the firmware versions look at the FAQ post.

  • Problems with Zen Micro Photo being recognized

I have a Zen Micro Photo 8 GB player, which I have had for a couple of years, and have had no problems. I recently purchased a new computer, and have Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3. I have installed the Creative Zen software from the supplied CD, and when I plug in the player and turn the player on, and open Zen Micro Photo Media Explorer, it says "Your player is not connected. • Strange problem with zen micro (I'm going mad!!

merry xmas!! I've bought a zen micro in seprember, flashed with .xx firmware; I always used it with windows 2000 with no problem, but... problems began when I've installed a pci card usb 2.0 on my pc; the card worked finely with everything but not with zen micro, that's to say that everytime I tried to import songs by media explorer, the program often wasn't able to import songs; so I've installed windows xp and flashed zen micro with 2.xx firmware (I've installed also service pack 2 and wmp0), but things have gone wrong!!! now everytime I connect zen micro to pc, xp asks the drivers, and it doesn't want neither the driver I've found on creative's cd, nor drivers downloaded from creative's site!! And it's not finished: now zen micro is without firmware and everytime I'm trying to flsh it, a dialogue box says that the player is not connect!!!
can anybody help me? otherwise I'll have to write to creative support for a substitution...
    please help me!!!!!

Strange. Unfortunately MTP connection problems are very tricky to solve. It's hard to know whether the firmware upgrade was partially successful, and whether you are on v or v2 firmware. It sounds like v2 firmware, due to the connection problems with MTP.
The drivers for the v2 firmware are provided by Windows Media Player 0, and are located in the C:\WINDOWS\INF directory. You could try pointing there.
As the player has no firmware though you have to go into recovery mode, choose "reload firmware", then connect to the PC (see if it's detected) and run the firmware update again.
If this doesn't work try and find another PC, say a friend's, that meets the requirements of Win XP + SP/2 + WMP0, and see if you can update.
In terms of resolving the connection problem if it continues, have a look at this thread, particularly the reply by DM, which goes through some of the troubleshooting to solve MTP connection problems. Also look for the link "problems with connecting using MTP firmware" in the FAQ post.

  • Posted these problems of Zen Micro bef

oh man, I posted this problem before, and I'll probably get the same answer, but anyways, I'm kinda mad because my Zen Micro is having soooo many problems right now. .battery drain when not on, and no, I do not have that one fimware that has that known problem. 2. if the headphone is not in just right, the sound when seem like it's far away. 3. If I touch the top of the jack of the headphones that goes into the Micro, the music will stop playing, until I ge the jack EXACTLY in the right place. that is all the problems I have right now......but anyways, It is very annoying to recharge your Micro overnight, take it school, only to have the battery dead cuz it said overnight after it was done charging........ I'll probably get the same answer I got last time, contact creative, but I was wondering if you think the place I bouught it at would take it back, (Circuit City)i'm gettin pretty mad Creative....... I bought this hoping I wouldnt have this many problems.....Message Edited by augi55 on 08-20-2005 09:3 AM

On account of it being a headphone jack problem, of which there are many, it's quite possible they'll cover it for free even if you're beyond the warranty period (Parts: year, Labor: 90 days). Normally you'll need your receipt for proof of purchase date, but again, with the issue being a headphone jack, it may not even be required.
