Problems integrating new Wireless Brother HL2280DW laser printer into my FIOS network.

I bought a brand new HL2280DW WIreless Laser Printer on Black Friday and I can not seem to integrate into my network.  It keeps spitting out errors saying to check with my SSID settings and I have checked, doublechecked, and re-checked and I just do not seem to get it.  I am hesitant to switching to a different type of encryption because not all my network nodes support other encryption types.    Any Advice would GREATLY be appreciated.

Your problem could be an IP Address conflict. The printer probablyh wants a fixed IP address so you can always refer to it the same way. But your router is probably set to give dynamic addresses to everything. What most people do is set aside a small address range for fixed address devices, and use the rest for dynamic addresses.
The way to do this is to set the router to start its DHCP range at something like 192.168.1.10. Doing his means IP addresses 192-168-1.2 - 192.168.1.9 are availalble for fixed assignment.  (Router is always 192.168.1.1.) All dynamic addresses will start with 192.168.1.10 and go up from there, for as many devices as you have attached wirelessly or via cables.  In this scenario you woudl assign your printer an address like 192.168.1.5 and it will always retain this address.

  • Windows 8.1 Won't communicate with wireless Brother MFC-J870DW Printer

I've purged the driver and downloaded current driver multiple times.  Printer worked fine with Windows 7 computer and works with other older Windows computers on the network.  Cannot send to printer or receive scans from printer.  Display
tells me printer is not connected.

    Hello JWN1,
If my understanding is right, the Windows 7 computers can use the printer normally, but the Windows 8.1 can’t use the printer.
Does this issue occur on all windows 8 computers or just single one?
Please take the following steps for troubleshooting:
    1. Check the hardware connection.
    2. Pint the IP address of printer and check the network connection
    3. Run the printer troubleshooter
For more information, please take a look at the following article about troubleshooting printer.

  • Problems with Wireless Brother DCP-J315W printer

First thing this morning, my printer was showing as 'Offline' - but it wasn't.
I uninstalled the drivers and then tried to reinstall from the excellent Brother website but I get an error message that something is blocking communications between my (desktop XP) PC and the printer.
The first possible villain is my NIS and I'm checking that out.
Next on Brother's diagnostic "check-list" is my router - I have a BT Hub 3.0. I have to check to see if
    (1) it has Multiple SSID enabled
    (2) it has a Privacy Separator enabled and
    (3) it has MAC address filtering.
I've spent hours going through Hub Manager and can't find anything about these three aspects. Are they in fact in Hub 3.0?
PS I should really start a new thread but is it worth upgrading to the latest hub?

Hi, I have the same printer and this happened once on mine.
I fixed it by powering down the printer, restarting it and redoing the network connection on the printer, and if I remember right deleting the printer from the PC then re-adding it.
Re your question on replacing the router, my advice would be definitely don't waste your money on any version of the HomeHub, they are rubbish. (Just read the thread titles one by one on this section of the forum!)
If you want a newer router, buy a third party one.
But, honestly, use that money to get off Windows XP instead!

  • How do I enable printing from my ipad 2, it doesn't see my wireless Brother DCP J315W printer. can anybody help?

I need to print from my Brother DCP J315W wireless printer. I don't really understand this Air Print concept and have not heard of it before, is it only on certain printers? This printer is new and I would like to be able to link it up with my IPAD 2
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

AirPrint is only possible on some HP printers at the moment (the models are listed on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356). There are apps that allow you to print to other printers (I havn't got any of them but I've seen apps such as Print n Share and Print Central mentioned), which can print via your pc/mac

  • Re: How to put a new wireless PIN onto my printer

What has changed in your network?  Do you have new hardware?   Have you followed the detailed instructions on the User Guide?   Here is your support page. http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Photosmart-C4700-All-in-One-Printer-series/3794613/model/3940571/manuals You should follow the manual for connecting via a router or Infrastructure method.

Sometimes things can't delete if they are locked. Not sure if printer drivers are one of them, but to delete locked items, hold down Option while emptying trash.
Not sure what you mean by restoring to a previous point. Don't think you'd be referring to a previous Time Machine Backup, as you're on Tiger.
You would pretty well have to reinstall your driver manually, preferably off the manufacturer's website as the driver from your printer disc is most likely out of date (they cam tend to fall behind as fast as they can ship).
Is all this because of a corrupt driver, or something?

  • CP1025nw won't print wirelessly; two copies of printer appear in the network!

My two Macs running Mountain Lion (10.8) won't print wirelessly to the HP CP1025nw. HP Setup Assistant can't find the printer after it's set up wirelessly. The computers see the printer wirelessly when I try to add it, but there are TWO copies of the printer, and they won't print. Sometimes they seem to think the printer is already in use, possibly because there are two copies.
The printer prints fine through USB, though.

Same issue here, the CP1025nw can't print multiple copies UNLESS the user is a local administrator; which in this domain environment is not allowed. So another solution must be found.
The common answer is to adjust the "mopier mode" however this driver does NOT allow for that to be changed. The universal drivers typically do have the mopier setting but I could not find any compatible colour universal 64bit drivers that would work with the CP1025nw.
Even tried finding something in group policy and/or printer permissions, still no luck.
    Please help!
    We're all in it together.

  • Print to my new Wireless HP3522 ePrint printer

I have a new Wireless HP 3522 ePrint printer which I've set up correctly. My question is, when it goes into sleep mode when not used for awhile, if I print to it from a remote location, will it come on automatically and print at my house??? I cant get it to print unless I'm here and actually turn it on by pressing the on/off button again even though it is on and in sleep mode, light dimming on and off. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Best b/w laser printer for OSX?

I'm looking to buy a new (home) b/w laser printer, ideally wireless - I'm SO tired of my Epson inkjet clogging/'running out of ink'!
From what I've read it looks like the majority are a bit of a nightmare to set up with Mac.
Do you have any experience or recommendations?
    Many thanks.

I'd shop around somewhere like Craigslist if you want to get a bargain. If you want a new one then I would go with a basic HP laser printer. The main reason that I say HP is the cost and availability of toner cartridges. I have a great Konica-Minolta printer that just sits in my storage room because of the toner cost alone doesn't justify the cost of the $50 that I paid for it used. Toner would cost me $95 whereas the HP toner is a lot less. Toner cost is another thing that you want to consider when replacing the cartridge. A new replacement cartridge is pricey but refilled ones are a lot cheaper but then again we get into a whole new discussion there. There are good reasonable priced cartridges then there are the refill kits that I'll say "STAY AWAY" from those for many a reason. Another thing is replacement parts and their availability. I have an older HP1300 that I've been using for the last 5 years that I bought used that's still plugging away with beautiful black prints and the only things that I have replaced is the pick up roller for $5 and 5 min to replace. The K-M I mentioned earlier is a beast to work on and parts are expensive and not readily available. To be perfectly honest with you, I would buy a good used HP from someone that is reputable, have it cleaned out and replace the pick roller(s), a new toner cartridge and you'll be happier than the new junk that they are selling now. Just a last thought...I have an older HP 4P laser printer that is at least 10 years old and according to the print out has printed over 40,000 pages and still works and the only reason that I replaced it is because I need something to print a little faster. Hope I've given you a little insight.

  • Wireless connection HP Laser to HP Desktop

I am trying to re-install this printer to my new wireless router.  All other items in the network are up and working well.  When I insert the printer CD and follow the directions for wireless connection, the progress only goes so far then stops with a message that it is unable to make connection with the printer.  The previous queues to discover and identify the wireless network seem to work fine, it is only the last step that is corrupt.  I wonder if the previous SSID and passcode need to be erased and/or changed in the printer by some other means???

  • HT1338 How to download Java RuntimeEnvironment for my new Brother laser printer?

I recently purchased a Brother HL 2270DW laser printer to print  from my iMac (Intel) desktop computer. However, after inserting the CD into the computer I get an error message stating thus "This OS version is not supported. Software cannot be installed." • I'd like to buy an all-one print, scan, fax wireless laser printer for my Mac.  Any suggestions?

Any suggestions for a laser all-one, wireless, print, scan, fax printer for my Mac Air?
    Suggestions gratefully accepted.

Yes printers (their drivers mostly) can become obsolete. Laser printers are so inexpensive I would lean that direction (often new ink cost more than a new printer). That being said when you combine functions you make sacrifices. A laser printer/fax would be, in my opinion, the way to go. If you need a scanner I would make it separate.
I have had good luck with HP - the school district I worked for also used (standardized) to HP. At times Epson has worked well with Mac's - and then there are other times. I think as long as you stay with a top tier brand (look at what Apple is bundling with their new sales) you'll be all right.
Of course you budget, the number of times you expect to scan, fax and print should drive the decision.
I have a ~$100 Brother Laser Printer networked through my Mac Pro (it prints wirelessly) and has done so for going on 10 years. I have an HP Photosmart 6800 about the same age. As you can tell I'm not a fan of AIO's.

  • Usb laser printing, HD's with integral hubs, and open doors to network?

Bought a N capable base station and an airport express this week as I have multiple minis and a macbook and wish to put my itunes onto a central drive and use wireless printing.
Spent an “interesting” evening last night setting up, and I seem to have worked out how to use itunes via aliases etc.
But – when I try to print, the dialogue box comes up, the laser printer (Samsung 2550) starts up, but fails to print.
My set up is as follows – Iomega 320gb mini HD (powered) plugged into the USB on the base station and then the laser and my inkjet plugged into the USB sockets on the HD (its one of those which has an integral USB and FW hub built in).
Now, as it was very late in the evening, I didn’t do any more trouble shooting, but am intrigued as to why the printer would not print. The log says that the print job has been completed, but nothing comes out. I disconnected the printers from the hd hub and then disconnected the HD. I then plugged the printer directly into the base station, but it still doesn’t work.
Annoyingly enough, the printer worked fine the previous night when I was using it with the usb on the airport express alone (hadn’t bought the base station at this point).
The computer(s) “see” the laser printer without difficulty, so I see no reason why it should not print using the base station.
One thing which occurs to me is to plug a powered USB hub into the base station, and then separately plug the HD and the Laser into sockets on this hub, rather than using the integral hub of the HD. Again, I cant see why this should be necessary but I’ll give it a try.
    Any thoughts re this?
    One Last Thing…
The main reason for buying the kit is to cover a “weak spot” in the house for wifi. Hence the idea was to connect my modem/router via Ethernet to the base station, and then use the airport express as a WDS to effectively re-broadcast the signal and hopefully provide maximum signal strength throughout the house.
My question is – having used the airport utility to do this, am I right in presuming that the airport express then becomes effectively “invisible” and hence when I use my mini in the weak spot to log onto a network via airport, I should only see the SSID of my main base station (although in reality I will be accessing it via the airport express). I think this must be right because when I added the airport express the signal strength in the weak area of the house went to the max.
My base station uses WAP protection but I don’t appear to have any protection set up on the airport express (which I realise is a router in its own right). Do I need to add protection to the airport express to prevent access to my overall network? In otherwords, is an unprotected airport express acting as a WDS, effectively an open back door to the network? Would a neighbour etc be able to pick up my network SSID being broadcast by the airport express and log onto that without the WAP password?
Finally what is the difference between the airport express being a remote or a relay station. I would have thought that to act as a network extender, it should be set to relay, but the default appears to be remote. The Apple help sections don’t appear to distinguish between functionality, merely state the options.
    Any help/advice gratefully accepted
    Airport extreme, mac minis

    I then plugged the printer
directly into the base station, but it still doesn’t
    work.
You need to get this to work first. Otherwise forget it to work with a Hub. Turn the printer on FIRST. Then turn on the base station.
One thing which occurs to me is to plug a powered USB
hub into the base station, and then separately plug
the HD and the Laser into sockets on this hub, rather
than using the integral hub of the HD. Again, I cant
see why this should be necessary but I’ll give it a
    try.
Direct connection and powered USB Hub are the only supported configurations by Apple. I've had no problem with attaching up to 7 separate devices on a $20 powered hub. Having a "integrated hub" like you describe may theoretically work, but it is not the same thing as a separate hub.
My question is – having used the airport utility to
do this, am I right in presuming that the airport
express then becomes effectively “invisible” and
hence when I use my mini in the weak spot to log onto
a network via airport, I should only see the SSID of
my main base station (although in reality I will be
accessing it via the airport express).
If you use WDS or "extend" the network, all base stations will still broadcast the SSID.
My base station uses WAP protection
You must mean WEP or WPA. There is no WAP protection.
    but I don’t
appear to have any protection set up on the airport
express (which I realize is a router in its own
right). Do I need to add protection to the airport
express to prevent access to my overall network? In
other words, is an unprotected airport express acting
as a WDS, effectively an open back door to the
network? Would a neighbor etc be able to pick up my
network SSID being broadcast by the airport express
and log onto that without the WAP password?
Yes, even if you turn SSID broadcast off, the SSID is broadcasted during the transactions and it will be easily detected using iStumbler. An yes you are letting a nice open back door for your neighbors.
