Problems launching Logic Express 7.2.2

I recently purchased and installed the Logic 7.2 Crossgrade. I used Software Update to upgrade to 7.2.2. Now when I launch Logic it crashes. This is from my userid which is setup as an admin.
If I launch Logic 7.2.2 from the 'root' account, it launches. Any ideas on what is wrong? I ran Repair Permissions and that did not help. I'm sure it has to do with file permission but where would I look to determine what files aren't readable by my own account.
Thanks in advance for any help!

You can launch it, just the first launch has to be
done from an Admin account.
Actually I can't from an admin account. Here's what I get (brief exerpt from crash dump):
Version: 7.2.3 (961.9)
Build Version: 14
Project Name: Logic
Source Version: 9610900
PID: 258
Thread: 0
Exception: EXCBADACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000000
I wrote a script to list the permissions of all files listed at the bottom of the crash output and they are set to one of the following:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel
-rwxrwxr-x 1 root admin
... which I can read. What I don't know is if the any of the files listed in the crash is the actual one causing the (permissions) problem. The account I'm running from shows the following output from groups:
$ groups
<userid> shared appserveradm appserverusr admin
I'm open to other suggestions.

Make sure that the Logic Express application is inside the Applications folder (and not in any sub-folder). Make sure the application is named "Logic Express" with no numbers or spaces after the name. Then download and run the 9.1.8 updater

  • Error when launching Logic Express

I just got a new (mid 2011) iMac and can't run Logic Express. It ran fine on my MBP, but when I try to launch I get the message: An error occurred while trying to open "Logic Express" /Applications/Logic Express.app.
Trashing and reinstalling didn't help. Any advice?

Never mind. Turns out my original software update hadn't brought Logic up to the latest version. Works great now.

  • Problems Using Logic Express with Alesis Multimix 8

    Hi,
Does anybody have any experience of using the Alesis Multimix 8 USB with Logic Express 7.0.1? As far as I can tell the software is set up OK. The problem is that there is an awful amount of noise present on both the input and the output (sounds like inordinatley loud dither). The problem is also present on Garageband and iTunes but not with Cubase LE (bundled in with the Multimix).
I have searched and searched the internet for drivers for the Multimix but with no luck. At the moment I am just using the "core audio" USB codec drivers that are built in as I seem to have no other option.
Does anybody have any suggestions before I go ahead and buy another external audio interface? (got my eye on the new Behringer F-CONTROL AUDIO FCA202)

PS I am running OS X (10.3.9) on a G4 iBook (1.33 GHz, 1.25 GB RAM) and have done all the updates available for Logic Express 7.0(.1)

OK I understand it's helpful to others to post solutions should you find them so here goes:
It would seem that the problem is with the built in CODEC used by OS X. You can update using the drivers available at http://www.usb-codec.com
I used the demo version to see if it solved the problem which it did. However you need to buy the software to get rid of the annoying beep every 30 secs on the demo version. well worth it to get my hardware working properly though.

  • Problem with Logic Express file in Pro

I opened a Logic Express 6 project in Logic Pro 7, and found that some of the Audio Objects won't play.
All of the Audio Object tracks appear in Arrange window (and the Environment), but tracks higher than number 8 (9-32) are inaccessible.
The only things that appear in the channel strips for the unplayable tracks are the track name, group assignment (off), and "read." When I tried to assign the track in the Audio Object Parameter box, I found that tracks 9-32 are grayed out and not available for channel assignment.
How do I make the grayed-out tracks available for assignment?
    Thanks,
    Weldon

You're welcome. I personally set mine high-but the higher you set it themore resources logic needs. I just set mine to 128 which is fine for me and how I like to work. Cheers

  • Notation Problems with Logic Express 8

    Hello there,
I´m a new member here and have a question about a notation problem with Express 8.
When I´m trying to double measure bars (is this correct? In german we call them "Doppelstriche". They are to divide one part from another... hope anyone understands this), they disappear. I don´t know why, but it happens after about a minute after writing them into the Complete Set... it never happened in Logic 7, it´s a new problem for me...
I thought that perhaps I pushed a wrong button by accident, but even when I did it correctly, securing everything, locking screensets, it disappeared...
hope anybody does know anything about this,
    Alex

We just call them 'double lines' although a double 'bar' line is the thick/thin pair that ends a piece.
I did a simple test myself, just ran some notes in the Piano roll and got some 'score' to edit and dragged and dropped the double lines in place, no problems. I closed, opened, resaved, and played the 'piece' for a few minutes on loop, nothing went wrong.
Perhaps I am missing something but i don't seem to be able to see them dissappearing.

  • Little problem in Logic Express 9

    Hello all,
I'm having a little problem there..
I bought recently an akai LPD8 controller, i set it up in controller assignment and it works fine.
Now, if i quit Logic, and re-open it, the controller assignment still there. great.
If logic crash or quit for some reason, the assignment are deleted, and this is normal.
The problem starts here, i read that the preferneces file of logic : com.apple.logic.cs and .plist should be present in :  myHD/library/prefernces/
There i find all my .cs and .plist file, but not the logic one!
The strange fact is that logic actually save my prefernces, like controller assignment, or arrange window color and go on..
I need to know were to find the controller assigments save file for keep a copy in my mac, for when logic crash, and not reassign everything to the controller.
    Thanks a lot,
    Ales

You are looking in the wrong "Library".
Logic preferences are saved in the <User> Library:
    My HD:Users:YOU:Library:Preferences
Note that the User Library is hidden by default in Lion and M Lion. One easy way to get there is to use the Finder:Go menu whilst holding down Option (the User Library will appear in the menu).

  • Mute and Solo problems on Logic Express

I have logic express8.0.2. I use the multi-track stereo production template a lot, working with audio files. For as long as I have had it, I have noticed that the solo and mute features do not work - they make a track quieter but they do not entirely mute it. Up to now, I've been able to live with it but becoming a nuisance now - any ideas how to fix it. I use the same software on another computer at work and it seems to work perfectly.
    thanks
    james

Try muting the Headphone track. I just tried it and without the Headphone track muted, you are right, soloing or Muting individual tracks doesn't work as expected. Apparently, all the tracks are bussed to the Headphone track, so that must be what is causing the problem. Weird, hu?

  • Sample Rate Problems going from Garage Band to Logic Express

I've downloaded the Trial Version of Logic Express. When it launched it changes the i/o sample Rate that is required by Garage Band (I'm using a digi002 i/o). The result is that garage band plays back at a fraction of it normal rate (sounds like crap).
It wasn't a problem until the trial ran out on Logic Express. I could change the sample rate back inside Logic. Hummm ... what to do? I don't see any place to change the rate in the garage band preferences or in the core audio interface. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    G4 1.25 dual, mirror Mac OS X (10.3.9)
    G4 1.25 dual, mirror   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I've never had any such problem with Logic Express. GB files just load up, and work fine. Did you change anything in Logic Express? There are setting for that there, but even songs I open after I changed LE to 24 bit, work fine.
Wait, are you saying LE is changing the sample rate, and then it stays that way when you open GB? Hmmm, What do you have LE set for? I think mine is set at 24/96, but I'd have to look to be sure. But I am not using the same interface as you are. It might be something you just have to live with. Have you tried posting this in the LE7 forum? Maybe one the gurus there knows what you can do.
Oh, and I am using GB 2, not GB 1, but I am not sure that is relevant.

  • Logic Express not working on mountain lion!

i am having problems with logic express 9.0.0 which is not running on mountain lion 10.8.2.
i have made an attept to try and get newer updates but before it gets anywhere this pops up
" An eligible Logic Express Version was not found in
the Applications Folder. This Update requires Logic
Express version 9.0 or higher. "
(i do not have the logic disks at hand)
The message that pops up when i attempt to open logic
" you cant use this version of the
                    application "logic express" with this
                   version of OS X.
you have "logic express" 9.0.0 "
    please help!!

    Hi
First, you are going to need v9.1.7 or later with Mountain Lion (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5421)
    Second
To get the updaters to work several things MUST be correct:
The Logic Application must be named "Logic Pro" or "Logic Express" (depending on which type you are working with) with NO Additional spaces or numbers in the name.
The application must be at the root level of the Applications folder (and NOT anywhere else).

  • Logic Express vs OSX 10.4.9

Anybody else having problems with Logic Express since the 10.4.9 update? My M-Audio FireWire Solo interface is distorting my guitar tracks and the trouble seems to have started around the time of the update. M-Audio says there's not ETA on a 10.4.9 driver update. It works fine with GarageBand (which would indicate that the problem is with Logic) but I didn't buy Logic Express so that I would have to work in GarageBand. Until Apple or M-Audio gets on the stick and updates their software I'm screwed. I can reset the problem very briefly by selecting external clock in the driver, which doesn't have anything to do with the trouble, but resets the noise for a take, sometimes not a whole take. The only other solution I can see is back dating my OS to 10.4.8 which would require zeroing out my drive, something I'm not real anxious to do. If updates are coming soon I'll wait. Anybody else feeling my pain or even better, know when help is coming?

    Now to your post:
Anybody else having problems with Logic Express since
    the 10.4.9 update?
Yes...oops too late, you should read up on updates BEFORE you update. And turn off "Auto-Update" on your machine from now on.Or suffer,it's really your choice.
    My M-Audio FireWire Solo interface
is distorting my guitar tracks and the trouble seems
to have started around the time of the update.
Yeah,I am sorry to hear that.Go buy another brand of audio interface.
    M-Audio=migraine.
    M-Audio says there's not ETA on a 10.4.9 driver
    update.
Of course not. They are too busy blaming Digidesign.
It works fine with GarageBand (which would
indicate that the problem is with Logic) but I didn't
buy Logic Express so that I would have to work in
    GarageBand.
    Nope...it's definitely the 10.4.9 update,plus the interface=CACA.
Until Apple or M-Audio gets on the stick
and updates their software I'm screwed.
Glad it's you and not me,bro...
    I can reset
the problem very briefly by selecting external clock
in the driver, which doesn't have anything to do with
the trouble, but resets the noise for a take,
    sometimes not a whole take.
Let's see..I had three of these systems, adn replaced them with Digi gear. Now it works every day.Ergo, replace the interface.
    The only other solution I
can see is back dating my OS to 10.4.8 which would
require zeroing out my drive, something I'm not real
    anxious to do.
Save yourself the trouble of doing that.M-Audio won't pay you your down-time.
If updates are coming soon I'll wait.
Again, rely on crappy company (M-Audio) and you see the answer "M-Audio says there's not ETA on a 10.4.9 driver update. "
You said it...not me...you wanna wait???
Anybody else feeling my pain or even better, know
    when help is coming?
I feel your pain,I went through this last year. Here's the only advice I can give you:
RUN TO GUITAR CENTER AND GET ANOTHER BRAND OF AUDIO INTERFACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Cheers

  • Logic Express doesn't react

I am new in the stuff, so I would be grateful for your advice.
Logic Express doesn‘t react after doing anything - f.ex. changing the location of a piece of audio or MIDI file - the song does not play. It only works after beeing started.
The problem occured suddenly. Before that, it was fine.
There are 13 tracks now, this cant be too much, i guess.
    Thanks for your help!

I'm having this same problem in Logic Express 8 with the Blue Snowball USB Mic... and I saw that many people recommended combining your audio interfaces into an aggregate device, the steps for doing which are found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1215 , but that didn't solve my problem.

  • Logic Express 7.2 Crossgrade Questions???

    Hello,
I just picked up the Logic Express 7.2 Crossgrade and had some questions:
Being that Apple was so generous not include a single lick of paperwork (installation guide or manuals) and the Installer and Content disc are dated Jan. of 2006 (everything is almost a year old, read me's, manuals etc..) that are on the installer disc! I'm a little confused.
First: My original version of Logic Express is 7.0 and I do not have it installed on my computer (see specs below). So, will the serial # that came with my original 7.0. version work with this 7.2 crossgrade?
Second: Is the 7.2 Installer disc a full installer or will I have to run the original 7.0 disc and then run the 7.2 installer disc to upgrade the Logic Express application? Or is the 7.2 disc a full installer?
Third: Being that there are no physical manuals, etc... and as I stated above the PDF Manuals are almost a year old, where do I find all of the most current Manuals, Read Me's, etc...?
Fourth: is anyone using Logic Express 7.2 with a Digidesign Pro Tools LE system, which consists of a Digi 002 (Console) with Pro Tools LE 7.1cs10. I'm using it with a Power Mac G5 Dual-Core 2.3 with 4.5 GB of Ram, running Tiger 10.4.8 (PPC). If so, are you having any problems using Logic Express 7.2 (or what ever the current version of Logic Express is) and is having Logic Express 7.2 installed on the same computer as Pro Tools causing any problems with Pro Tools running properly (or to be blunt, breakin Pro Tools)?
    P.S.
I know I might get slammed for this and I know that the Logic Express 7.2 Crossgrade was only a lousy $29.00 plus Tax but is it too much to ask for actual physical manuals, installation guides with the crossgrade? And most importantly, at least the most current version of Logic Express 7.2? As I said above, the 7.2 disc is dated almost a year ago! The current version I now see is 7.2.3 and was released September 2006. What's the deal with that?. I guess Apple is trying to save a buck or make one, who knows?
    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks for the reply SynterX,
I'm glad to see that someone is on the same wavelength as me. I agree 100 percent that Apple "could have at least supplied a single sheet of paper in there that says how to install and what to do". I happen to be one of the people that like to look at the actual printed documentation (call me crazy). And yes, I did have to send them my 7.0 Disc. Thanks for answering the mysterious full installer/serial # question that I had. Just curious, when did you get your crossgrade and is it the same version that I just received, 7.2 (which is almost a year old).
I also just ordered the Soundtrack Pro upgrade to Final Cut Studio. I can't wait to see what that mess looks like!
    P.S.
Where does one find the current Logic Express Documentation, etc...?
    Thanks again!
