Problems linking AOL account to G-mail

I have a balance on my AOL account, not to mention a ton of music.  I have been trying to change my AOL account to a G-mail account so that I can have access to the balance ($) on my AOL account.  The directions given, i.e. 'sign in with your AOL account and you will be directed on how to change it' have not appeared on any of my devices.  HELP!

You need to log into the account via your computer's iTunes, and the instructions only apply to AOL username accounts (without the '@aol.com'), not if you are using your AOL email address. If currently logged into a different account then log out via the Store > Sign Out option, that will change to Store > Sign In - then log in via Store > View Account : Convert your AOL Username to an Apple ID - Apple Support

  • How to delete message from the fodler of  AOL account using Java mail

    Hello All,
I am using Java MAil API in my application, i want to delete message from AOL account's folder,
when i set the folder as "Recently Deleted" or "Trash" , i get an exception as "folder does not exist".
when i tested , some times mail is moving into Recently Deleted folder, but not every time.
this is happening in both the interface as AOl Interface or my application.
when i use folder.close(true) after setting the flag of message as DELETED. it completely remove the message from the acount.
but i want to let the message be remained in the Recently Deleted folder. what should i do.
i dont want to remove the message completely from the account.I am using IMAP also.

You'll need to figure out what the real name of the "Recently Deleted" folder is on the AOL IMAP server
(assuming it's a real folder and not some sort of "virtual" folder), then copy the message into that folder.
See the folderlist.java demo program as a way to explore the names of all the folders on the server.

This happened after I was hacked.

If you delete that account from your iPad, all messages from it will be removed. You can then go back into Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars and 'Add Account' to add it back onto your iPad.

Alexisann, Welcome to the discussion area!
I'm not sure how you ended up in the "Discussions > AirPort > AirPort for Windows" discussion area. Your question has nothing to do with Apple's wireless base stations, wireless networking, nor Windows.
A much better place to put your question would be the "Discussions > Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard > Mail and Address Book" discussion area.

But there is a (high) possibility that Gmail's server requires authentication (or certification) to connect to it.
I wonder if they're simply silently dropping emails in certain cases. I forgot earlier that I have a Gmail account. If I send an email from the command line on my home computer, which is on Comcast, the mail log shows that I successfully connect to Gmail, the message is sent and accepted by Gmail, but the email never arrives in my inbox. I've tried several times with the same result.
However, emails from a web server from work get through to Gmail without a problem. So I'd bet it's a case of them not delivering mail from Comcast IP addresses.
For grins, I also tried sending to my Yahoo email account from my home computer and their server at least refuses the connection and I get an error message stating that it's because it's a residential IP address.
In this case you need an SMTP client (=a software which directly sends the mail to the Gmail server) which supports authentication.
I think this might also be possible with Postfix by editing the configuration files. I know I had to set up authentication to send emails to my work address directly from my home computers, but I haven't been able to get the same thing to work with Gmail yet. If I get a chance, I'll look into it again later tonight.

  • Setting up Mail in OS 10.4.7 for an AOL account

Where can I find instructions on setting up an AOL account in Mail (OS 10.4.7). The instructions I found were for an earlier version of Mail and didn't work.
First, the dialog box asks me for "Incoming mail server." I inputed "imap.aol.com."
I got stuck when the set up dialog window then asked for the outgoing mail server. My instructions say to enter "smtp.aol.com:my aol account name." Mail then says "server not responding."
    Where am I going wrong?

For one, your account name shouldn't go in the box for the server.

I have 3 aol accounts that Mac mail has always supported Now it refuses (rejects) one of them. This happened all of a sudden.  Nothing I did changed it, and nothing I do now will repair it. I have taken ALL accounts Offline and then brought them back ONline, and that didn't work.

See what Mail/Window/Connect Doctor is showing. If you get a red server, select it and check the Show Details box.

  • IMAP AOL not showing sent mail

When I set up a friend's AOL email account using mac mail, the folders appear, including "sent items", but sent items never appear.
It there something I must do from AOL?
    thank you
    alan

    Hello Alan.
If your friend wants to store messages sent with the Mail.app on the server for the AOL account, go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Mailbox Behaviors tab for the account preferences, is "Store sent messages on the server" selected?
If so, open the AOL account icon in the mailboxes drawer to reveal the Sent Items mailbox. Select the Sent Items mailbox and at the menu bar, go to Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For and select Sent.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Mail from AOL accounts misidentified as spam

Mail is sending messages from AOL accounts directly into the trash, even though the mail is correctly addressed to my e-mail account and comes from people who are in my address book.
This also happened recently with a message from a non-AOL account holder who is in my address book, but it is chronic with messages from AOL accounts.
My junk mail filter is set to training.

All mail from AOL users to me are filtered directly
to my junk mail... I did not set a specific rule for
this to happen. Can anyone offer an explanation?
I'm having a similar problem. Even though the AOL users are in my address book, and I continually click the "not junk" button, every piece of email from AOL shows up as junk. I've adjusted the junk rule so that AOL mail doesn't go into the junk folder, but I'm still curious about a way to fix the problem.

  • I lost connectivity from my mail aol account, and can not use mail to email, the email account is off line. What do I need to change to bring the account in line? The take accounts online function will not allow it to go on line

    Operating system is the 10.5.8

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
First, just confirming that you realize you can always access your AOL email account by going directly to www.aol.com from the Safari browser (or Firefox, Chrome, etc.) until you get the Apple Mail problem fixed.
If you cannot connect directly through a browser, it's quite possible that AOL is doing maintenance or having a temporary problem. It happens with surprising frequency to most online hosts. I usually check downrightnow.com, but AOL is not one of the services for which they collect trouble reports.
Reconnecting your Apple Mail to your AOL account:
In the Apple Mail menubar, click on the Mailbox, Get New Mail, and highlight the AOL account.
You should see the 'spinning wheel' next to the account name for a moment while your AOL mail is retrieved.
    That should successfully reconnect you.
Occasionally my ISP seems to corrupt a few packets and I'll get a message that all my external email account password are rejected, and asks me to re-enter them. Instead of re-entering passwords, I click 'cancel', and use this same procedure to re-connect.
NOTE: I'm on Snow Leopard OS X 10.6, and Mail 4.5 (1084) but I believe the process to reconnect did not change since OS X 10.5 Leopard.

  • Problems with AOL e-mail and Droid Charge

Problems with AOL e-mail and Droid Charge
After setting up my AOL email account on my Charge, it has been syncing new messages ok, but I've been having other problems:
    - Syncing AOL mail: I have the Charge set to sync 50 emails (set up the same way as my Comcast Account) but the AOL account pulls up the last 50 old emails and delivers them to the phone. (Comcast does not do this). If I delete these old messages, it just pulls up the same amount of even older mail. Very frustrating. Because of the 2nd problem below, some of these messages were actually deleted on my AOL account before I realized what was happening. It seems I have to just keep 50 old mails on my Charge to prevent this from happening. Any ideas?
    - Second problem (kinda related) Deleting Old Mail: When I delete AOL emails I have read on the Charge, they are also deleted from my 'old mail' folder on AOL and sent to deleted mail. This is not how it worked on my BB Storm2. After deleting them with the Storm, the AOL mail would show them as read and put them in 'old mail' unless I told the Storm to delete them from the server. I cannot find any "choice" option on the Charge. I hate this because the "deleted mail" folder on AOL dumps its contents much more quickly than the "old mail" folder. How do I stop this from happening?
FYI, both Comcast and g-mail are working as they should.....
    Thanks,

    Dear Richs10,
As to the second problem, I have seen this before in other threads. The only solution I can come up with is to delete the AOL account and set it up on the phone from scratch. The reason for this is that the ONLY time you are able to see the option for leaving email on the server (or removing them) after reading on the phone is during the account setup process. After the account is set up, there seems to be no way to access this setting again. Kind of dumb, IMHO, but that seems to be the case.
If you need step-by-step walkthrough of the account setup, PM me.

  • Getting the "cannot get mail, password is incorrect" message with my AOL account only.

Getting the "cannot get mail, password is incorrect" message with my AOL account only. Could this have something to  do with the iOS 7 update? When I log into my mail through safari it's fine, and I deleted it from my phone and went to go add it back but now I can't because it keeps telling me my password, which is correct, is incorrect. Has anyone else had this issue since iOS 7? How can I fix it?

I have had issues of "password incorrect" and mail not being sent, after doing the latest IOS 8 update to both my iPhone and iPad.  I tired all the different suggestions I found (deleting and re-adding my AOL account, changing my password, etc) and nothing fixed it until now!  While searching around for a solution, I happened upon a post from someone.  I tried doing this to all three of my AOL email accounts (on both my iPhone and iPad) and now it works great!  Here what that post said to do:
"1. Set up your AOL account(s) using the AOL option
    2. Go into each AOL account(s) and under the "Outgoing Mail Server" section, press the SMTP entry
    3. Set the "Primary Server" to "Off"
    4. Press "Add Server" and provide the following information in the "Outgoing Mail Server" section
        a. Host Name - type in:  smtp.aol.com
        b. User name - type in your user name WITHOUT the "@aol.com" - that was the problem/change!
        c. Password - type in your password
        d. Use SSL - On
        e. Authentication - Password
        f. Server Port - 587 (mine automatically set it to port 587)
After you enter in the above info, the Primary Server will still be set to OFF, but the new server you set will be set to ON, just doesn't show up in the Primary Server section.  Be sure to do the above steps for each one of your AOL accounts (if you have multiples ones).
Apparently, in the main AOL Account Information section you need to use your user name and the "@aol.com", but you need to leave the "@aol.com" out of the SMTP.  However, the Primary Server has that whole section grayed out so you need to ignore that one and create another one."
Good luck!  Worked for me and now I am as happy as a Lamb!!

  • Problem sending AOL mail in Mail 2.1.1

I just switched from using the AOL mail program to the Mac Mail program for sending and receiving AOL mail. It worked flawlessly for 2 weeks. Then, suddenly yesterday I could only receive AOL mail, I could not send. I have scoured the Apple discussions and Googled the web for any causes of this problem, but cannot find a reason.
Anyone else having this problem? I have checked and rechecked my settings in Mail preferences. I have deleted and re-added the AOL account.
What is odd is that every once in a while I can send a few test messages and then it stops working again. I know, I hate AOL, but for various reasons I have to keep the account.
    Thanks,
    Sue

Not sure how you missed it - the answer for Susan is in her previous post.
However, I tried something else this morning and it worked. Since I have a Broadband connection thru my cable company, I set it as the smtp server for sending mail and that worked. It is invisible to the recipients, in other words, the From in the header to recipients still says it's from my AOL.com account.
If you have confirmed AOL's authenticated SMTP server settings using Port 587 which recently stopped working, depending on the error message provided more than likely your internet service provider made a change in regards to using an SMTP server that is outside of their network.
If you are also accessing an email account and SMTP server that is provided by your ISP used for connecting to the internet with Mail and there are no problems sending messages with this account and SMTP server, select/use your ISP's SMTP server to send messages with your AOL account which can also be used to send messages with any email account that is not provided by your ISP.
If not, add your ISP's SMTP server to Mail as an available SMTP server to select/use for sending messages with your AOL account.
This was/is Susan's solution and the solution required by many depending on their ISP's restrictions.

  • Mac Mail Problem with AOL

Hi. I keep getting the following pop up window error message with my Mac mail: "Mail can't connect to the AOL account...." Is there anything I can do to resolve this?  Please help.  Thx! :-)

After 9 months with the  macbook pro and no problems watsoever, my AOL mail suddenly started having problems but not on my iPad or iPhone.  There's no doubt that the problem was intitated by a change made by Apple to the software on my computer.  As others have noted files with the email settings get scrambled.
The symptoms come and go,  sometimes closing the mail program and rebooting will cure the probems.   Apple recommends waiting 10 minutes ,  are you nuts?  Trip (with appointment ) to Santa Monica Apple store  and the tech was less than helpful , struggling under Apple's   work two customers for their allotted 15 min.
Sorry for ranting in tech space but one of the benefits of paying the premium for Apple products is that they work.  Apple we have a problem here, but you have a far larger problem .....  as a iPhone, iPad, MacBook and Apple stock owner I see the handwriting on the wall....
