Problems loading Win7 Pro after HDD replacement in DV6165CL

Hi,
I've had a hard drive failure in a DV6165CL. I've got a new 320GB HDD installed, and the BIOS sees it OK. But when I try to load Win7 Pro - it won't boot from the O/S DVD. It'll boot from a Seagate SeaTools CD, but not the O/S DVD. Originally, this computer had XP Home on it - but since the drive failed, I wanted to take the opportunity to upgrade it to Win7 Pro.
What am I missing here?
Why won't it boot from the Win7 Pro DVD?
Thanks for any pointers,
Bill

Hi,
No, it can boot from other disc that means we have to question about the DVD. Have you tried to boot the DVD using a different machine ?
Regards.

How can I make sure that my HD's are working and that there is power t them?
If the HD's are working, what am I doing wrong?

    NovJoe,
I cleared the CMOS.  My two sata hard drives are not showing in the BIOS but my sata dvd rom IS showing ???
I plugged both hd's into other ports.  In fact, I plugged one HD into the port that detects the sata dvd drive and it still came up as not detected in the BIOs.

  • How to restore a TM backup after HDD replacement?

    Hi everybody,
The HDD in my Macbook pro failed, and I am replacing it
MBP July 2011; HDD 500GB 7200 rpm; Mountain Lion.
I have recent Time Machine backups. Now what´s the proper way to restore the backup.
Should I boot up with the not yet formatted new HD and with the TM disk connected
    using some key combo?
Or should I boot from the Mountain Lion Install CD and then be able to
format and select the backup drive?
    Thanks for reading!
    Rob

    Thanks Eric,
After inserting the original DVD I installed OSX and after reboot I had a working computer.
There was no opportunity to restore the TM backup. however when I rebooted from the
DVD again I saw that possibility from a menu of the install utility.
I ran through the restore over night (8 hours) and when I woke up, I had my computer back!
    Thanks for helping me out.

  • How to restore a Macbook Pro after hdd failure?

    Hi!
My girlfriend posted a question about her MB Pro mid 2012 which apparently had a HDD failure; she was instructed to take a TimeMachine backup and switch a new HDD/SDD to replace it. Well, I started the TimeMachine copy, but unfortunately the computer crashed; now the computer starts, but keeps spinning the rainbow wheel while trying to log in. Any advice on how to proceed? Can the data be recovered? Can I do it somehow and if I wanted to change the SDD which she bought, how do I boot the computer without TimeMachine backup? Can it be done?
Normally this woudn't be such a huge problem, but unfortunately she needs to read for an exam AND write an academic text. Of course I could lend her my MB but unfortunately I have to do the same....
Solutions? Sorry couldn't find answers so I thought it easiest to just ask plain out straight.

So as a continuation, since she keeps asking, can I go ahead and just download the Yosemite from Apple Store and install it on the new SSD or will it fudge up the laptop again? The things I heard had something to do with kext or TRIM or something like that. Now keep in mind I'm no nerd, so I'm not up to full speed on how SSD and Yosemite work together.
It depends upon the SSD.  Here are a couple of excerpts by a trusted colleague of mine in a conversation regarding SSDs and other storage devices.  (I do not have an SSD)
    Also read this:
    http://blog.macsales.com/21641-with-an-owc-ssd-theres-no-need-for-trim
Bottom line is if the SSD does not need trim, then install Yosemite.  If it does, do not install Yosemite.
    Ciao.

  • Reinstall from time machine after hdd replacement

    Hi all
I have just upgraded my hdd n my mac book pro and just before removing the old hdd I let time machine run
After replacing the hdd I booted up the machine with a lion bootable DVD and then created a new Parton on the new hdd using disk utility
On running the lion installer I was able to choose the option to restore from time machine backup but the most recent backp it could find was one from august last year and not today which is what I expected
I now have the machine Running with the new hdd but I am missing all files etc between the state restored by tm and today
How do I get the machine back to the state it was before I removed the old hdd?
    Thanks in advance
    Simon

Had you ever erased the disk, or done a full restore previously?   If so, the older backups are treated as if they wer on a different drive.  Try a full system restore, and see if there are two disks listed in the "pop-up" Restore from menu per step (g) in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #14.   If so, each should have a different set of dates.

  • Reconnect to TM backup after HDD replacement?

I have just got my iMac back after a warranty repair that included a replacement of the HDD. They migrated all of my applications and data from the old HDD to the new one and everything seems to be fine. However, TM wants to doesn't recognise the existing backup file and wants to do a full "first time" backup (which is a problem anyway as there isn't sufficient space on my Time Capsule).
Does anyone know whether it is possible / how to get TM to recognise the existing backup as relating to this machine?
I just worried about deleting the existing backup only to discover there is a file missing that I might have been able to restore from the "old" TM backup.
    Thanks, Brian

TM knows it's the same Mac; the problem is, it isn't the same internal HD. And no, there's no practical way to fool it into thinking it is.
If your TC isn't well over twice the size of the data on your internal HD, your only choices are to erase the TC's internal HD, or get another external HD.
You can connect a USB drive to your Time Capsule and back up to it (it will be a new backup; the old one can't be "continued" onto a different drive); or you can "archive" the TC's current contents to it, then erase the TC's internal HD and let Time Machine start over.
See the green box in #Q3 of the Using TIME MACHINE with a TIME CAPSULE *User Tip,* also at the top of the +Time Capsule+ forum, for instructions on doing the "archive".

  • Problem loading premiere pro cs4

    Hello everyone,
I've been trying to open premiere pro cs4 and everytime it gets to "Loading AAF.prm" it unexpectedly quits.I was able to open it before, but recently, I've been getting this problem. Has anyone encountered this problem? Do I have to uninstall the program and reinstall to fix the problem?
    Please advice.
    Thank you.

Actually, partitions present themselves to the OS as physical HDD's, and the OS cannot understand why it's taking so long to get reads/writes. They are hold-overs from OS's many generations back. Other than some esoteric backup schemes, there is no reason to utilize them A program, like Partition Magic, will help rid your system of those.
I do agree that a minimum of 3 fast HDD's is the minimum for Video editing. More, properly allocated, will be better.
Now, with 6x HDD's, I have many Projects with a lot more Clips, and no issues.
    Good luck,

  • Help with iPhoto migration/upgrade to Aperture, after HDD replacement and clean install.

I'm getting ready to replace the internal HDD in my iMac, and perform a clean install.
    I'm currently running:
    OS X Lion, version 10.7.5
    iPhoto '09, version 8.1.2
    After the clean install:
The latest version of OS X Mavericks
Installing a fresh version of Aperture, and *hopefully* importing all of my photos from my old iPhoto, into new Aperture (193 GB worth of photos).
What's the best (specifically: SAFEST) way to go about making sure my photos successfully import from my old HDD, and old version of iPhoto, into a new version of Aperture on what will basically be a brand new computer?  Is this just a matter of dragging and dropping the "iPhoto Library" to an external USB drive, then somehow bringing that folder into Aperture after my machine is up and running with it's new hardware and software?
Thanks in advance for your help!

From what I understand, iLife 11 comes bundled with 10.9
No  --  no version of iLfe or of iPhoto comes bundled with any OS
if I simply drag and drop my existing iPhoto library to an external drive right now (despite being a library from an old version of iPhoto), I'll be able to simply import that library into the bundled version of iPhoto 11 that'll come with my clean install of 10.9, without any corruption of image library, loss of metadata, etc...?
    Sort of
1 - the EHD must be formatted Mac OS extended (journaled)
2 - there is no iLife '11 bundled with Mavericks (or any other OS) - you must pruchase iPhoto '11 in the App store
3 - there is no importing of anything involved - you simply drag your iPhtoo library to the pictures folder of the new system and launch iPhoto letting it upgrade the library
No corruption, lss of data or other problems - unless somethng goes wrong - which is why you need a backup before doing this - your copy on the EHD is fine - just do not open it directly - make sure you are opening a copy

  • Problem in Xperia Pro after upgrading to Android 4.0.4

    Hi all,
I purchased Xperia Pro a couple of weeks back. Android version initially installed was 2.3.4. I went on to upgrade the same to 4.0.4 yesterday (Build no: 4.1.B.0.431). Everything works fine but for my sliding keypad keys. The alphabet keys A,W,Q,Z are working erractically i.e if I press A, Q responds, if I press W,Z responds. This are the only four keys I am facing the problem with. Can anyone please shed light on this issue as to how I can get it resolved. Also can I downgrade my Android version back to 2.3.4 if I want to.
    Updation:
    1) I system reseted my phone but the same thing persists.
    2) Repair installed the android version via PC companion but still no joy.
    Cheers & Peace,
    Girish

I visited the service center & they, quite conviniently, told me and I quote "The only way around  this problem is to downgrade it to GB everytime you upgrade to ICS because Xperia Pro doesnot work satisfactorily with ICS upgrade. The system becomes too sluggish, physical keypad doesnot respond,wi-fi fails to connect most of the time.We will be receiving a tweaked upgrade of ICS from Sony in a month or so,only then should you upgrade it to ICS." So the upgrade to ICS seems far off for me. After the downgrade, I was quite satisfied with the GB though only to find out my satisfaction didnot last for long when the wi-fi stopped working(keeps disconnecting frequently). I tried out various probable solutions mentioned here on the board but no joy.
As for the isolation of the keypad problem to my phone, I noticed quite a few people here are facing the same problem with their phone. So I dont think its about a faulty script that I got installed on my phone. Sony needs to come out with a fix to this problem.

  • Problem with 'Import Asset' after SuperDrive replacement

Hello. My SuperDrive was dead earlier this year and I replaced it last month. Ever since, I have been having trouble doing 'Import Asset' on DVD Studio Pro. Whenever I try to import a QuickTime(.mov) file, a message of "Incompatible Format" will pop up thus stop me from importing anything.
Could someone help me with this please? Any ways to fix it? Thank you.

    Dear David,
Thank you for answering my question. Would you suggest me to reinstall DVDSP? I installed everything as a chunk with my Final Cut Studio discs. Can I reinstall it individually?
My DVDSP worked fine until my Superdrive crashed earlier this January. It has been like that ever since, even after the drive was fixed. I can burn DVD directly without DVDSP. I am sure DVDSP can burn DVD too, but I don't know what happened and now the "import asset" function won't work anymore. I don't know what to do.

  • Problem loading safari webpage after switch from EDGE to 3G and vice versa.

    ok, very simple question
i'm on edge, i want to go on safari, so i enable 3G. after that i go on safari and try to open a webpage. even after the 3G icon displays on top, it still takes a very long time before the webpage starts to load. also if im on 3G and switch down to EDGE and then open a page in safari i get a message saying Could not activate cellular data network, even though the page loads anyway. IS THAT NORMAL?

  • MacBook Pro 2011 / HDD replace with SSD - power issue

I recently replaced on a MBP 2011 2.5 core5 the 500 MB HDD with a Samsung 850Pro SSD. All went well with regards to cloning throught the apple disk utility.
But i noticed the MBP seems to "burn" more power, meaning the battery life is reduced. It is not clear to me why replace the HDD by the SSD means a shorter battery life. Is there a compability issue with the  http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/memory-storage/MZ-7KE1T0BW ?
    Any suggestions ?

Sorry, but you typed, "My 2014 model macbook pro 's logic board got damaged."
Apple does not accept trade-ins. You can try selling it on eBay or Craigslist or sell it for cash to companies like Gazelle.com. Then buy a newer model with the proceeds plus added cash, if required.

  • TouchSmart 320-1050 Win7 Pro After Windows update, login results in a black screen + white cursor

    Hi ...
After some Microsoft automatic upgrades were done om my HP TouchSmart 320-1050 this week, when I logged in after the reboot, all I got was a blank (black) screen and a white arrow cursor, which worked fine -but there was nothing -no video output on the screen. Even a <CTL><ALT><DEL> did not bring anything up on the screen and I had to force the system down with a hard power down. I tried with user logins and Administrator login but the behaviour was the same.
I could boot and get a picture in SAFE mode but not with a normal boot and login.  There were NO ERRORS in the Windows event logs that seemed to shed any light on the issue.
The system was shipped with Windows 7 Home Premium however I upgraded to Windows 7 Pro so I could join my domain.
I couldn't diagnose the problem -with nothing showing on my screen- so last night I check what updates were installed to see about de-installing them from Safe mode.
After de-installing the most recent Microsoft HotFix (KB2679255) and rebooting .... POOF!  I had my desktop displayed again after I logged in.
I don't know what piece of software was interacting with this HotFix - but thought I should post the issue, just in case someone else encountered the problem... or someone in HP Support wants to investigate ... (Let me know and I'll supply what info I can.)
    Thanks

    thanks for letting folks know.

  • IMac 21.5 hard drive fan increases speed after HDD Replacement

The hard drive on my iMac 21.5 failed two months out of warranty, so I decided to replace it myself.  I replaced the drive with a duplicate of what was already in the iMac, which is a Seagate 500GB Barracuda 7200.  The replacement and restore went well, however, now the hard drive fan slowly increases speed during operation, until I assume it reaches maximum RPMs.  The increase in fan speed happens regardless of how busy the unit is.  This is not particularly a problem, but the noise at maximum RPMs is annoying and I assume the life of the fan will be shortened.  I ran the Apple Hardware Test and received the error "4SNS/1/40000000:TH00-9.000" which I've seen from another post that this may or may not indicate a problem with the thermal sender unit on the HDD.  During installation I was careful to verify the proper orientation of the thermal sensor cable, so doubtful that is the problem.  Is there a way to definitively determine whether the thermal sensor is bad on the HDD, or do I need some type of Apple-specific firmware installed on the HDD?

Beginning in late 2009 Apple began using HD's that had the heat sensor integrated into it, if you are absolutely positive your replacement drive has an integrated sensor in it then your problem might be solved by doing a SMC reset. If you haven't done one before here are the instructions:
    SMC RESET
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
    • Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    • Release the power button.
    • Attach the computers power cable.
    • Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
