Problems maintaining network connectivity in hotels

I have a problem maintaining internet connectivity when I use hotel WiFi services where you have to "login" first via the web browser. I don't have a problem with the WiFi per se and I have no problems with initial connectivity -- I can login and browse the Web without problems. But if my MacBook goes to sleep, I can't browse, get email, etc when it wakes up.
I don't have this problem at home - only when I travel to places where I have to first "login". This has been happening consistently since I got the MacBook 10 months ago and at various hotel chains around the country. Also when I have another laptop with me ( Windows ) I don't see this problem. Sometimes on the Windows machine I have to "login" again after it wakes up but I never have this opportunity on my MacBook -- the browser just hangs there, "loading" indefinitely.
The only way I've found to fix this is to reboot my MacBook. I've tried Googling for a solution or even anybody else who has this problem and I've turned up nothing! I am really the only person having this problem?!? LOL...

Unfortunately this is a fact of life with these types of hotel systems. Live with it or set your Mac to "Computer never sleep" when you are traveling and that occurs.

Upgrading to 6.1.1 hasn't solved the problem with network connection on 4S. Still "No Servise"!

Same here.  Everything was fine running on ios 6.0, I don't know what possessed me to upgrade!  I contacted O2 and thet went through the usual settings; reboot; airplane mode etc and it works for a while (like 5 mins) then service is losted with the network.  I've even deleted the exchange email account and rebooted as read on the internet that this would fix the problem.... guest what....yep no joy!  This is clearly a faulty software update and need fixing pronto!  I've read that ios6.1.2 will be out soon to fix the firmware that was suppose to fix the initial network problem.   When will this be realeased Apple?!  It's hardly fit for purpose when I can't make calls or surf the internet.

  • AppleTV - Maintaining Network Connectivity to Wireless Network

Should my AppleTV always maintain its connection to my wireless network?
Everytime I go back to my AppleTV, I have to re-establish my network connection by going under Settings>Network Configuration>Select My Network>Done, and then it will be OK...for a little while...
I can then access the iTunes Movie Trailers, Music Videos, etc., but if I then go back to content on my AppleTV for just a few minutes and then try to go back to the iTunes content, the network connection has been lost.
    AppleTV; PowerBook G4; D-Link DI-714P+   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

What's the physical proximity of the router to the
tv? Is there the possibility of a weak signal
    between the two?
Also, have you tried changing channels on the router?
I've had problems in the past on my 802.11g routers
with interference from neighbours causing drop outs
    on the connections.
Since most routers seem to come preconfigured for
channel 1 or 6, you're often best to pick just about
any other channel (since most of your neighbours
    probably won't).
I'd also suggest turning OFF any proprietary network
acceleration mode features that your router may have
(ie, the features that some D-Link and similar
routers have that provide a speed boost when using
    their own network cards).
Have changed the channel it was set to auto but changed to 3 I think still same problem. The ATV is about 5 feet away from the router. Moved it from the other side of the TV incase that was blocking the signal. Also the ATV always has a full signal when connected.

  • IWeb 1.1 problems - does network connection matter?

I'm one of the many people who cannot upload their pages to .Mac after the iWeb 1.1. update. I've been troubleshooting the issue for a while. I went through all the suggested fixes here and elsewhere - nothing helped so far.
The very weird thing I could confirm is that somehow iWeb worked when I connected to the Internet using an alternative connection. Normally I use as Airport-network at home. I tested a GPRS connection through my mobile phone. I was very, very surprised to see a new page created from scratch in iWeb 1.1. uploaded to .Mac without problems! Though it took some time since it was a GPRS connection.
Now, can anybody experiencing same problems with iWeb 1.1. test uploading using alternative network connections, please?
And also make sure that you send your feedback to Apple - it should allow them to fix the problem sooner.
    Cheers.

Lots of people have surmised that network traffic and timeouts in iWeb might have a hand in the problems iWeb 1.1 seems to be having. Though, I wouldn't have expected that a much lower speed connection like GPRS to improve things over broadband! At any rate, good for you. I'm glad that there's a glimmer of hope out there...

    Hi,
I can't connect to Internet on Windows 10 mobile emulators on Windows 10041. I have tried to resolve problem. First I noticed, there was problem with displaying properties main network connection. I had reinstalled network driver. After that I reinstalled

  • Problem establishing network connection to download software

I'm trying to download new software for my iphone 3 gs (5.1) but am unable to do so, get message "network connection could not be established"

I'm having the same problem.  And the fix on the forums is to disable anti-virus and any firewalls and that should do it - but i've done that and it's still not working for me.  i've restarted, i've checked that i have the latest software on my Macbook Pro & for iTunes.  Zilch.  Still getting the message.

  • Weird problem--lost network connectivity wifi and ethernet. Intermittent

I'm posting to this board because my Time Capsule is my router and I suspect this is a router table issue since it affects both wifi and ethernet computers in my household.  It only affects the two computers on 10.8.3 at the moment.
Either just after waking from sleep or after working for quite some time on either of these computers, web sites will stop loading.  It gives an SSL error but they are not secure sites.  Mail stops coming in as well.  This is true for any browser.  The network connections test as "green" with the built-in diagnostics tools.  The only fix I have found is to either restart the machine or simply log out and log back in from the user account.  It is very frustrating because we are often working in real-time online.  Standard things we use that are affected are Google Docs for schoolwork etc. and my son's Minecraft playing.  It is especially frustrating for him because he could be in the middle of a "project" with some of his friends online and this essentially crashes what they were doing.
I have called Apple but it is very hard to explain the issue in an effective manner.
Both machines are logged in as managed accounts but unrestricted access.  I just don't like my primary account to be an admin account.  I don't want my kids to install stuff without my permission and the managed user allows me to inspect the logs of sites they have visited at the system level, even if they turn on private browsing in Safari or incognito in Chrome.
Does anyone here have any ideas?

It is possible that I upgraded the firmware on the router right when I upgraded the machine to Mountain Lion but I really don't think I did that. I also have a version of the OLD airport utility so I can see the Time Capsule in much more detail.
    Linda
If it hasn't reminded you to upgrade the firmware in the last day or so it is already on 7.6.3.. Apple stuff is very insistent on upgrades..
In the old utility (excellent) take it back to 7.6.1. And turn off weekly upgrade reminders.. this will reduce the instances of upgrade reminders to weekly instead of daily.

  • TS1398 Problems with Wifi connection in hotels with Ipad

    Hi guys!
I bought an Ipad MD528C/A lately and I have difficulty connecting to some public Wifi such as hotels' wifi. I don't understand why it's doing that; I tried to change the settings as some people suggests in certain forums, and it still is not working. The thing is, I bought my Ipad so I could stay in touch with Internet (and the world) while I travel...so...it is kind of frustrating. Anyone could help me ?
    Thank you very much!

    Hi!
I have sometimes the same problem in some public wifi networks... and I solve it switching off the "mobile data" in the iPad settings.
I don't know why, but it rules... ;-)
    Good luck!
    Carlos.

  • Problem with network connection names and cluster

    Hi,
Before talking about my problem, I want to apologize if this is not the correct forum, but it is the more adecuated that I have found. Is about a problem in Windows 2000, which I know it is out of support, but in my company I still have to administer several
    hundreds of them.
I have several Windows 2000 failover clusters, and all of them show the same problem, which consists of the following:
Each cluster has two nodes. Each node has 5 network adapters. Each adapter hosts a connection  name: Lan-1 is the name of the network associated to adapter 1, Lan-2 to adapter 2, and so on till Lan-5 to adapter 5.
Lan-5 is used as heartbeat for the cluster: is connected to the Lan-5 in the other node via a cross-over UTP cable.
Lan-1 and Lan-2 in each node, forms a network team named TEAM, used to access to the nodes for administration via remote desktop.
Last, each node has Lan-3 and Lan-4. Lan-3 is used for the cluster resources, and Lan-4 as a backup, just in case Lan-3 fails.
And now, the strange and surprising thing: if I change the name of Lan-4, or change any configuration of the connection, the name changes to Lan-4(2). If I make any other change, the name changes again to Lan-4(2)(2). I can't get rid of the numbers between
parentesis, and the number of them grows and grows.
Any idea about what is happening?

    Hi,
As you mentioned, the Windows 2000 has already stop supported, personal experience is you can try to use the cmdlet ipconfig /all to show if the network adapter name is right
or not, or you can try to remove the lan3 adapter register information (backup first) and driver then restart to monitor the status

  • Problem with network connection

    Hi there,
I just installed Solaris 8 on my P-III machine with 256mb RAM. My network is fully supported by NT servers & machines. I chose to have dynamic IP thro DHCP. The network card present is 3COM. The machine boots up normally, gets an IP address & even telnet is possible from outside. But after a while, the connection dies all of a sudden. I am not able to connect to the server from outside or connect from the server to outside. When I restart the machine the cycle repeats.
Though the "ifconfig -a" shows that there are 2 interfaces (network card & loopback)with the IP unchanged even after the connection goes.
    Seeking your help,
    PTBabu.

calling your ISP is actuallyl a good solution, basically a router just depends on the internet connection distributed by the ISP, if it drops then connection in the router would also drop...
but if it has no problems, you can try upgrading the firmware of your router and try to configure it at the same time..

    Hello Farhan,
are you sure that you have a load balanced R/3? If not try to use the system template "Dedizierter Anwendungsserver". Don't forget to specify all necessary information BI information as descibed in the online help. You may have a look at the NW 7.0 help as the system templates are very similar.
The rest seems to be ok.

  • Problems airport network connection

    Good evening;
I'm having an issue with my Macbook Pro (13 inch).  Over night the airport wireless connection ceased to operate; the icon was grayed and the hover message was "no airport card installed".  In the network systems application the airport is indicated as "off" and I am unable to change the status to "on".  Any ideas?
    Thanks,

Damselfly0, Welcome to the discussion area!
...but says it can't connect to the internet because of a self-assigned ip address. How do I change this to enable my computer to actually connect to the internet?
Do you have your wireless router configured to use an access list (MAC address control)? If so, you need to add the MAC address of the wireless interface of your iBook.
Do you have your wireless router configured so that the DHCP server is enabled?
And, at work, my airport refuses to detect the presence of the wireless connection. It can sense others, but not my office's.
A US iBook will operate only on channels 1-11. If your office's network is using channels 12, 13, or 14... your US iBook won't be able to see it or connect. See KB 58567, Using AirPort Wireless Communication Internationally.
