Problems mastering to dvd and missing codecs

I am having problems mastering to dvd with the mpeg 2 dvd option and also missing codecs, anyone can help me? new to cs5 so probably something I am doing wrong when going to export then selecting option mpeg2 dvd and select drive for output,it burns and then wont play back even though its burned okay...using tons dvds and wasting them, and getting rather frustrated...no idea how to use encore yet as in menus and stuff as used the old version of elements and 1.5 before upgrading ...so help me please

Assuming that you have the full-paid version, and not the trial, look to see if Transfer Activation is grayed out?
Try Importing a simple MP3 Audio file.
It sounds like you have experienced the "revert to trial" of the full-paid version, so that you now have zero MPEG-2 support.
The steps to correct this are:
1.) Deactivate (probably grayed out)
2.) Uninstall
3.) Run Adobe Clean Script CS5 several times, rebooting between each run.
4.) Install CS5
5.) Instantly update, before launching
6.) Activate
7.) Launch and test.
Good luck,

    1 lite-on cdr
    1 samsung dvd 606f
then I install Nforce driver pack from Nvidia and everything works ... but
with Nforce ide controller idriver installed ....
Only one of my drives is detected.
    1 lite-on CDR
    no DVD
If i switch it back to windows standard IDE Primary and Secondary drivers it comes back..
    Any thoughts.....

the Nforce drivers tend to be a bit picky about jumper settings ensure that your optiacal drive jumpers are set to master & slave. Nvidia doesnt work to well with cls. Alternatively you can just run wwith the MS ide drivers.

  • PE7 and 'missing Codec'

    Hi,
I have been using PE1 for years, have upgraded to PE7 recently.
Editing previously ripped mpg file has been troubl4e free. However, today I captured new avi files, using PE7, from my Sony DV camera into a new project. This video played fine during capture but now, as I pull them into the timeline I get "This file type is not supported, or the required codec is not installed".
    Please help.
    Andy

    Andy,
Great news. At the very least, you now have a wonderful and useful utility, G-Spot. I could not be without it.
The error message was probably a miscommunication between the OS and PrE. PrE got an error message (location of the Assets), that it could not fully process, so it looked down its list of errors, and just said, "hey, maybe it's the old CODEC issue," and showed that. This happens all too often, especially with the authoring phase in PrE and also Encore.
Now, back to your G-Spot screen: I noticed that the Audio was 32HKz. Is that the output from your camera? The reason that I ask is that 32KHz material, even PCM/WAV (right choice there) can present issues. It would be better to use 48KHz, if at all possible. If not that, then the CD rate of 44.1KHz would be better than 32KHz. If that is the ONLY choice that you have, and you're not having Audio issues, just be patient, when you Import these files, as the necessary Conforming process might take longer - be patient, until that Conforming completes.
When using external HDD's, I strongly recommend going into the OS on any machine, that that HDD might be connected to, and setting a permanent drive letter to it. This MUST be done in the OS. I use a ton of FW-800 externals, and set their unique drive letter in the OS of each of my machine. I also started with drive letter Z:\ and worked backward. As my workstation has a lot of internal HDD's and burners, I did run out of letters, but because I label each external with its drive letter, know to NOT hook up both of my Z:\ drives at the same time. Other than that, no issues at all.
Having the same drive letter will also make certain that you do not Open a Project, and have PrE not be able to find the links in the .PREL file. When that happens, PrE will try to help you find the new location, but if it is likely to change on every boot up, you end up doing a lot of unnecessary work.
    Good luck,

  • DVD and mouse pointer stutter

I recently experienced problems with playing DVDs AND my mouse pointer (trackpad). The DVDs are interrupted with subtle pauses, which make it ratehr unpleasant to watch a film. The mouse too is interrupted, stops in the flow and then jumps back on track. haven't experienced difficulties before, but I had recently installed a USB Modem (+software) to get online, but it never worked. I deinstalled, however, the "stutters" in DVD and mouse pointer persist. I ran Disk Repair - nothing noted. Any ideas?

How did you solve this? I'm getting this on my mouse, my DVDs and, sometimes, on my downloaded video.
I recently upgraded to QT 7.4.1. I've heard there are problems with that upgrade. Any ideas?

  • Problems with running DVDs/CDs on the Windows side

    Hey there,
I've been having some problems running some DVDs and CDs on my drive on the Windows side. It works fine on the Mac side. The only thing that run properly is the Mac Installation CD. When I pop in a DVD movie, it functions 90% fine. But when I pop in a blank CD/DVD to burn something or run a CD of Data, it won't work.
Does anyone know why? And how to have it work?

See if this works for you.

When I click on itunes, I get a message that says, "the registry settings used by the itune drivers for importing and burning cds and dvds are missing.  this can result from installing other cd burning software.  Reinstall itunes."  I am a really inexperienced computer user. My computer is a windows 7.  Would someone please walk me through this or tell me where to find information on how to do this. Thanking in advance, Laurie

Check out this Apple article -> iTunes for Windows: "Registry settings" warning when opening iTunes
The article will walk you through reinstalling iTunes and then checking for or creating device filters. Did it help? Did you run into any problems?

Premiere Elements 13 on Windows 8.1 (assumed 64 bit).
    First..
    1. Have you updated from 13 to the 13.1 Update using an opened project's Help Menu/Update. If not, please do so.
    2. Do the problems exist if you disable the antivirus and firewall(s)?
    3. Are you running the program as Administrator? Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer?
    4. Have you refreshed the Online Services using Premiere Elements Editor Edit Menu/Preferences/Web Sharing?
    5. Have you updated the Adobe Application Manager?
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4773
6.Is your video card/graphics card driver version up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card?
    7. Lots more we could go through such as deleting the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if necessary, the whole
13.0 Folder in which it exists.
But, I think that you have enough things going on here to warrant an uninstall, free ccleaner run through (regular cleaner and registry cleaner parts) and then reinstall with the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled.

If the problems persist after all that then we will adjust to additional troubleshooting maneuvers.

  • Produced DVD Exhibits Missing Music or Button Action, Even Though Check Project Tool and Play OK

Well, I have been successfully and faultlessly using Encore CS3 for several months, when all of a sudden my latest production suffers from the errors noted in the title; both Check Project Tool and "Play from Here" have always, in these problem cases, been OK. Just the discs weren't.
By the way, I am running this on a BOXX with dual Xeon 3.0, 4 gig ram, nVidia Quadro FX 1500, application on 10krpm 150 gig hd, and data on a slower 750 gig RAID 0, with everything cleaned and defragged, etc., etc. As yet, my problem is only with Encore, and not with more recently run Premiere (with Aspect HD), After Effects, Photoshop, and Ultra - nary, ever a problem with these! Also, never any problems with any DVDs, all burned 8X on a Sony writer, using DVD-R Verbatim discs. In the subject instances I assembled a disc format in Encore following my own self written 10 page procedure manual, step by step checklist, with ALL steps documented. So, I may be wrong, but I'm always consistant. And Check Project Tool, and preplay in Encore no errors, and worked perfectly, as usual.
But first burned disc played no audio on the main menu, while chapter menu music (from same source file as usual), was fine. And motion pictures in both main and chapter menus worked fine. Soooooo, complete recheck of project showed everything fine, and same Adobe checks worked fine, and another burned disc, same fault.
So, uninstalled Encore CS3, including preferences, etc., and re-installed. And brought in everything again, and reconstructed the structure from scratch again, and everything tested fine. Then I burned a test disc, 1 pass low rate Adobe Media Encoder converting from 1080i .avi to 480i, and the disc played perfectly! BUT THEN........ I reincoded at vbr 2pass, high quality, and burned twenty discs at 480p. And everything plays fine, EXCEPT, on all four of my test DVD players, the "timeline" plays fine, video and audio, the main menu pictures and music and "Play Movie" and "Chapter Selections" buttons all work, but although the Chapter Sub-menu pictures and music are as intended, the "Chapter 1" button is highlighted, as intended, but you can't move from there to the other chapters button or the button to return to the main menu.
And again, these all worked fine when the Check Project Tool was utilized just prior to setting up the DVD files and burning - and no, I touched NOTHING else in the meantime.
So, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
And I would certainly appreciate insights from anyone about what the matter might be (besides Microsoft), so long as the insights are thought provoking, whether they are valid or not.
But seriously, this has me stumped. And I really will NEVER, ever burn and print (full color!) 20 discs again without fully testing the first one burned and then never change anything in Encore.

Harm - thanks for the suggestion!
Given what I now know about transcoding and interlace effects, 480i insead of 480p is totally unacceptable to me, for excellent reasons explained in a moment. If Encore only works correctly with 480i (anyone have any thoughts as to why that might be true?) then its time for me to drop Encore and move on to another DVD assembler. I'd not care to do this, as I finally have all study of Encore and my related procedures manual put together, and I would certainly miss some of the fine and relatively easy features of Encore, to say nothing of the use of PixelPops panels in Encore. One other point. I badly mis-spoke myself in the original post, and I apologize for that. I should have said that Adobe Media Encoder was being used within Encore to encode from 1080p, not 1080i. More about all that in a moment.
So, I now have a further question, if I cannot get a work around for this. Anyone have any thoughts on an alternate DVD assembler with a decent transcoder, for $1,000 or less? No matter what, I intend to continue to use other Adobe products.
Now, as to why 480p! And I may just run an informational post about this sometime. Several weeks ago I had finally decided that what I had been putting together as 480i was just totally unacceptable because of the deinterlacing artifacts shown when run through the standard DVD player and typical LCD screen. The noise, particularly the misquito noise, the twitter, etc. was just too much. So I set aside three days, and all I did was run tests of various sequences of transcoding 1080i to 480 whatever. And of all the permutations and combinations, the clearly superior result was the following. As our friends at Cineform have so rightly commented, going from 1080 to 480 gives us all kinds of headroom to work with. So my current procedure is to first take the Cineform "visually perfect" 1080i .avi files and using the Cineform transcoder, convert them to 1080p.avi. Then, as noted above, I use the Adobe Media Encoder to go from 1080p to 480p. Now that picture, I am really happy with! And by the way, what is produced by using the Adobe Media Encoder to transcode directly from 1080i to 480p is truly grotesque - the horizontal distortion is so horrible it has to be seen to be believed! Other variations produced from good to marginal results. The closest acceptable was using Cineform to go from 1080i to 1080p and then to 480i, and then using AME to go from 480i to 480p DVD.
By the way, the final, best otherwise encoded 480i result showed up only marginally better than what I am doing now, when shown on a 109 inch screen using that great chip in the latest Toshiba HD-DVD player for the deinterlacing function. But when the same disc was played on your typical consumer DVD player and flat panel screen, the result was marginal. I have read many places that we are better off letting the consumer players or screens conduct the deinterlacing of our 480i productions, instead of producing 480p discs ourselves. Given the transcoders I currently have to work with, I would say that is just nonsense. If all the consumers had players with great deinterlacers that would be true. But it isn't true!

  • Itunes drivers missing for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing

    Hello,
I have been dealing with the following problem for a couple days now, I have searched all over the internet, talked to friends and even Apple tech support but the problem has not been solved.
Whenever I access itunes, I get the following warning: "The registry settings used by the itunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other burning software. Please reinstall itunes."
I have now reinstalled itunes several times and completely removed then reinstalled as instructed, but the message continues to appear and itunes will not allow me to burn cds. Tech support advised to create a new user account on my computer which I did, it seemed to work but all I can do is import music. I cannot burn any. All my settings and playlists aren't on this account. But, are on my other one where the first message appeared.
Can anyone help? Please. I have struggled with this and cannot figure out what else to do except reset my computer to its factory setting, but would really like to avoid doing so. Please help.
I have a new HP computer running Windows Vista, I have never experienced any problems with itunes until now. I bought a new 120GB ipod in November and it works fine. Oh, I have gotten rid of Nero which was installed when this problem first occurred.
    Thank you.

Hmm. "iTunes registry error Vista fix burning and importing issues". play around with the search words till you find something relevant. Not sure, but following is something that might help. I am not a vista user so I can't help much. Good luck.

*But be warned that messing with registry might be fatal to your current OS intallation. So think all the way through before you do anything. I think you can keep a back of the registry so if something goes wrong you can restore it, but thats in XP, not sure about vista.*

  • Error msg at launch says "Registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. ... Please reinstall iTunes."

Each time I launch iTunes (latest version) on Windows 7 (w/ latest system updates) I receive the following error msg:
"Warning! The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing.  This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software.  Please reinstall iTunes."
When I click on "OK" iTunes completes the launch process and the application functions properly.  This error msg appears without fail every time I launch the app.
I have reinstalled iTunes four times and continue to receive this message.  iTunes is set in the system Control Panel as the default program for all functions that iTunes uses.  I never burn CDs or DVDs and have never attempted to do so on this machine.  I have had iTunes on this computer since I bought it last November and never had a problem with it until 2 months ago when this message began popping up.  I did not notice any action I took that caused this, in terms of creating conflicts.
I hope someone can assist me in finding a way to stop this annoying error!  Thanks!
    David

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

Note I am receiving when opening up iTunes:  The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing.  This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software.  Please reinstall iTunes.
Question:  Do I have to uninstall iTunes and then reinstall?  I am a little hesitant to do this!
    Noelyn

Hi for the message error "Warning! The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
Here are the resolutions I found and it fix the problem for me.
    Resolution
iTunes installs a device filter which helps it work with your optical drive. If this device filter is missing, you will see the message mentioned above. To resolve this issue, reinstall iTunes to put the device filter back in place. To reinstall iTunes, follow the steps in the article below appropriate to your OS:
    HERE http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
If you still get the pop up error "Warning! The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
    Do this

    Good luck!
