Problems on new mac pro with Blackmagick DaVinci Resolve. Others have found the same problems?
The purchase of the new mac (D700x2, 32Mb RAM, 1TB SSD) cost me a lot of money.
It was intended for use with Adobe Premiere, After effects, Photoshop, and Da Vinci Resolve Blackmagic 10.
I unwisely upgraded to Mac OS 10.9.3 (hoping that with the new drivers the machine would improve its poor performance).
A glaring error.
At the time the workstation is just a pretty ornament because for my job (which I do for more than 20 years old) is completely unusable.
The machine crashes constantly in DaVinci Resolve.
All of this is putting a strain on my patience and the patience of my clients.
I hope that Apple is aware of the situation clearly enough, and assume that for once his responsibilities working to resolve as quickly as possible these unacceptable problems.
I've always been an Apple customer and "friend" of Apple but this situation is not acceptable.
Before creating advertising slogans you should create products able to function.
What is the point of all banchmarks DaVinci Resolve ppoi if the machine is not able to run it for a professional use?

Chas50 I would recommend removing the currently installed Adobe Creative software. You can then install the new versions of the Adobe Creative software included with your membership. Want new Mac Pro With Snow Leopard
I am after a new Mac Pro with Snow Leopard.
I understand that some of the newer Mac Pros can have Snow Leopard installed. Some tell me that in the recent past Apple made a change that made installation of Snow Leopard difficult or impossible on a Mac Pro.
Does anyone know with a reasonable degree of certainty how to tell if a given Mac Pro can have Snow Leopard installed?
I called Apple about a refurbished Mac Pro, they don't know what operating system it will come with! And they don't know if it will include OS installation disks.For what it is worth, I recently went through this drama.

it is theoretically possible for Apple to modify the firmware to prevent Snow from booting, but my experience is that this has not happened yet.
How long ago did you purchase your Mac Pro? (I miss the old days, when users would modify their own firmware.)
See if you can buy from a seller who will let you test this out. There are some nice retailers out there, especially when you are dropping $1000s on a new Mac Pro.
I've been looking for a while now, Mac Pro sellers that have Snow Leopard know how valuable there machines are. There are no bargains if you want snow leopard.
We couldn't install Snow directly on the Mac Pro, so I installed on another computer (an older Mac Pro), and updated to 10.6.8 and swapped the drive across. This worked without issues.
I currently own a 2008 Mac Pro (2,1) with 10.6.8
See if you can buy from a seller who will let you test this out.
Why not Apple? They have a 15 Day return policy. When I called Apple recently the person I spoke to suggested this. -
New mac pro with fiber attached san storage
We have a digital media department that uses After Effects to produce content for different types of media boards, digital signage, post production etc. They start with Red 4K files which get edited in AE and rendered to different video formats. They want to move away from Windows PC based editors with multi drive RAID local storage to the new MAC Pro with 8GB fiber attached to a shared SAN storage solution. First question, is this a wise move to run After Effects? Second question is, do you need to create multiple logical volumes on the SAN storage to accommodate where AE render location, cache, source, database, and general media content files are stored or can this all be stored on different folders in one large 50TB volume? Third question is, should six different editors be sharing the location where these files are stored?

No. Each user should have his own home directory. Not for performance resons, but simply because they'll end up overwriting each other's files. The rest - logical volumes don't matter on your end, but SAN systems still use internal stripe groups, so it would make sense to define volumes on those stripe sets simply in the interest of performance. Beyond that AE doesn't really care. It uses the operating system's file I/O stuff and 'NIX based systems don't differentiate between local volumes or otehr resources as long as they are mounted correctly in teh file system.

New Mac Pro with Lion and can't install FCP.
I got a new Mac Pro with Lion and can't install FCP that worked fine in SL. Is it not compatible? Is it really a PowerPC program??? I'm a videographer and rely on this software and to spend $300 to continue to use it after spending a lot more for this software 4 years ago! Tell me this is not the case and there is a solution to installing FCP.
How to run FCP 6 (FCS 2) under Lion.
The installer for FCP 6 (FCS 2) is a PPC app. The Programs themselves are Intel. If your trying to install FCP 6 (FCS 2) this work-around will work...
First you need to install Rosetta from your Snow Leopard OS installation disc:

After doing that you can install FCP 6 (FCS 2). Remember, after installing FCP 6 (FCS 2) you need to apply the updates. This has been discuss many times in the Final Cut Studio forum.

Why can't I open and retrieve my files from iPhoto and my Address Book after importing the files from my Power Mac G5 to my new Mac Pro? I get a warning that says the new OS on my Pro doesn't open files from a Power Mac. Any idea how I can fix this?
For your addressbook, export the files to vCard on the PowerMac, then bring them over to your Mac Pro. For your iPhoto, copy the Users -> yourname -> Pictures folder to your Desktop on the Mac Pro, and open iPhoto on the Mac Pro holding the command and option keys. Select the library file from that Pictures folder and open it. It should import all the pictures into iPhoto as part of the rebuild process. I just got my Mac Pro repaired from Apple but I am experiencing the same issue: Screen freezes and shows funny rectangular bars. I shut it down manually and when I try to turn it back on it beeps 3 times. I know its the RAM but is there a way I can fix it
If you just got it back and it isn't fixed or something else is wrong with it take it back and have them do the repair correctly.

The screen resolution in 1920x1200 dropped on my MacBook Pro 17". Seems like I have not the same pixels. There are also vertical, thin lines on the screen. Makes the screen look milky. Anybody knows what's going on and how to fix it?
Take it to an Apple Store or other service provider for testing.

Rendering problems on the new Mac Pro with premier CC
Previosuly on my iMac, periodically i got strange green compression and distortion on my exports, especially when converting from native canon 5D files to say another format such as quicktime. Now I've upgraded to the new MAC PRO and things are way worse, random distortion, artefacts and coloration is appearing in my final renders, this is almost making my workflow come to a stop. Anyone having same problems? any solutions from Adobe?
I found that deleting the preview files and rendering helps sometimes, but surely this is a terrible bug that needs to be fixed

I have a new mac powerbook pro OS X 10.8.1 and cannot connect to my canon 6000B printer - the printer appears in the printer list but will not install and I can't find a driver on the net - does anyone know what the solution is?

System Information is located in Applications > Utilities. It shows lots of information about your Mac, including information about the printer queues.

In previous versions of OS X you did see this information via the Options & Supplies pane for the selected printer in Print & Scan. But with 10.8 this information was removed so know you need to use System Information > Printers to see information about an installed printer.

I believe that the document does not print because the print queue has not been created correctly. The CAPT driver requires a specific queue name and if the queue name is wrong then you will not be able to print.

Not surprised to read that. Mtn Lion has caused some issues for owners of CAPT printers, especially if they upgraded to 10.8 from 10.7 or 10.6.
Since you mention the ability to print on 10.5, I just want to check that you are physically moving the USB cable connected to the LBP from the 10.5 Mac to the 10.8 Mac, rather than sharing the printer from one Mac to the other. Because if you are sharing the printer from the 10.5 to the 10.8 Mac then this can be a cause of your current issue. The CAPT driver does not work when it is being shared to other Mac's. -
Linking SCSI baed flat-bed scanner to new Mac Pro with PCI-Express
I need information on how to link my current scanner (Microtek Scanmaker 4) with a recently ordered Mac Pro. It is a SCSI based peripheral, and the only (last) of my currently owned peripherals that I'll need after getting my new Mac Pro. I've been searching the internet for a modestly priced interface board that would serve me.
I've invested several hundred dollars in the hardware and SilverFast software, and would prefer to use the old scanner rather than move to a newer USB or Firewire based scanner.
I'd appreciate any leads. Does Apple have advice? So far I've not found any discussions that face the issue, but perhaps I've missed a dark corner of the support search domains.

My dilemma is that a high end scanner for photographic images (up to 3900 lpi) and firewire/USB 2.0 compatible costs about $600. The card you suggest was priced at about $400.
If push comes to shove I guess I'll opt for a new scanner, and face the problem of firewire/USB obselence when it comes.
A local resource suggested that the only reason we even worry about the availability of SCSI devices is that they are needed to interface with multi-thousand dollar scientific instruments.
I was hoping to find a more modestly priced card, and thank you for the lead. It's a start!

I have a new Mac Pro (2014) with latest updates. Any time I use my SSD it randomly restarts itself. Could be doiing anythign as simple as transfering one file or something like multi-track recording audio. The drive is Kingston SSDNOW KC300. (SSD is formated OS Extended) I am using a Apricorn SSD to USB adapter.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
How can I migrate data to new Mac Pro with only 1 monitor
I am ready to set up my new Mac Pro. I know how to migrate my files from my G5 using Firewire and making the new computer a target disk. My problem is, I have only 1 monitor. Is there an easy way around this, OR of not, can I use my Macbook Pro just a monitor and if so how?
If you make the new computer a FireWire Hard drive, the only thing on its monitor will be the firewire symbol. You don't need a monitor to see that.
But if you did, you could start the new computer up first, look at the firewire symbol, get a warm fuzzy feeling, disconnect the monitor and plug it into the old computer to make the transfers.
