Problems opening applications

Hello!
I have been reading tutorials on using the mac book. When I tried opening an application it just bounced up and down in the dock. The applications I tried are font book, dictionary, calculator, ichat and even dashboard. Consequently they are just sitting in my dock refusing to work!
Is it possible that I have over used my storage (I have the basic memory bought with the laptop). I do have a new hard drive - but haven't installed it yet...
Awaiting assistance...

You'd be better off posting this in the MacBook forum where you are more likely to find a user who could answer to your problem: MacBook Discussions

  • Problem opening applications

Hi, more and more often when i try to open something, (mostly happens with firefox or amsn) the programms opens fine, and is funtional but the window is tiny, as in a very small dash somwhere on the screen. It is so small it is only just possible to click it. I can get around this with firefox by clicking window, and then zoom to get it too full size, but with other programs i am completely stuck and cannot see the open application. It doesnt happen all the time and often once i have resarted the computer its fine.
Anyone have any ideas whats causing it?

Could be more than a few tings at this point.
You can do all these yourself or other ways, but with problems like this I start with Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, then when the prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.

  • Audio problem opening application/vnd.ms-powerpoint

I frequently receive emails with attachments containing pps files (application/vnd.ms-powerpoint). I have no problem opening the files and seeing the images contained in these files. But sometimes I am told to listen to the music accompanying the images, but I don't get any audio.
When I resend the email to Windows using friends, they can listen to the music. For your info I have Microsoft Office X installed in my computer. Is this an issue involving the powerpoint viewer? Does anybody know what is going on here?
I thank you in advance for any insight you can provide, towards resolving this problem.

Hello teo, & Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Not sure this will help, but it should tell you something about your system,
    hopefully.
Go here I looked in Presentation's preferences i do not see anything there. Check your QT preferences in Sys. preferences->QT, to make sure they are correct for playing the file type you do not get to hear. Do you use apple mail app. to view your emails ?
Good Luck, Please keep us posted.

  • Loaded 2.1 on my 2G iPhone having problem opening applications

Just loaded 2.1 on my 2G iPhone. Having problems opening apps like Facebook, and games like Texas holdem. Did not have issues when I had 2.0. Is it the 2.1 download thats causing the problem or is it my 2G phone. Any know the answer to this.

can you describe what you mean by "problem opening apps"? is it trying to load, then goes back to home screen?
if so, have you reset the phone after the update?

    HELP!!!!

Ephraim, the time between your two posts was only 11 minutes! You have to be a little more patient than that, don't you think?
First, a really dumb question: your are +double clicking+ on the Desktop Folders, right? (I just can't take this for granted, sorry for asking.)
Try trashing this file: in your users (your account) /Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.Plist. A new one will be created automatically, but you will probably need to reestablish your Desktop Preferences.
Also try resetting the PRAM. At the chime, hold down Option-CMD-P-R until you hear two more chimes (total 3) then let go and it will continue booting.
Sometimes a simple restart can fix things like this.

  • Problem opening Application Manager

I purchased Adobe Cloud earlier this summer and downloaded a few applications from the application manager (ie, Photoshop, InDesign, Lightroom, & Premiere).  But I for the past week I cant open the Application Manager so I can download Illustrator.  I even downloaded a trial version and once I'm prompt to install, the install manager shuts down when opened. I'm using a Macbook Pro i5 with OSX 10.8.2.
    The error reads first:
"The last time you opened Adobe Application Manager, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again? If you choose not to reopen windows, you may have to open and posistion the windows yourself."
(I have chose to "Reopen" and "Don't Reopen")
    This is the next message...
"Adobe Application Manager quit unexpectedly. Click reopen to open the application again. Click report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple.
    Can someone help me out?

No, I chatted with one of Adobe's reps and we went through a couple things.  We deleted and reinstalled.  Then tried to download and install Illustrator by itself but couldn't open even open it because I got the same report that it unexpectedly closed.  He then told me to rename my "OOBE" folder to "Old OOBE" from my Library.  Which I did then deleted the AAM and reinstalled but that didn't help.  I've also restarted once I deleted the AAM.  Sort of a bummer deal.

Did you change any AppleID accounts or anything?  I've seen this happen when changing accounts or certain restore situations.
If you are using iCloud you should be able to reset your phone to Factory Defaults and restore from iCloud, but it always makes me nervous.

You have Acrobat Pro on your system. It will try to open PDFs, and of course it will fail. You must uninstall it. Then, you will need a PDF reader. So install Adobe Reader. That seems quite simple, but perhaps something is wrong. If anything goes wrong with these two steps (1) uninstall Acrobat Pro (2) install Adobe Reader, then please let us know the details.

This is a password error. Make sure that you do not have anything in the domain boxs and that when you enter your credenials that you do not have [Cas lock] on if your password is in lower case and that you have number lock on/off as required.

I am trying to open iTunes on my mac. But a box pops up saying "The folder iTunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder". Anyone know what that means? I've had my computer 2 years and its never had a problem opening it

I've already right-clicked on the application, clicked "get info", and changed it so all people listed in the "Sharing & Permissions" section have the "read & write" privilage.
The error message is referring to your iTunes library, not your iTunes application.
You need to check and fix the permissions of the iTunes folder in your iTunes library. This is by default located in your "Music" folder.
Select the folder Music > iTunes  in the Finder, right click on it or Ctrl Click and click "Get Info". At the bottom of the contextual window thatwill  pop up, disclose the Sharing and Permissions brick, change your status from Read only to Read & Write. You may need to click the padlock icon to make changes.

  • Error: "We're having a problem opening this location on file explorer. Add this website to your trusted sites list and try again"

    Hello,
When i try to open document library from SharePoint Production portal then it throws the specified error. However, when i open document library from SharePoint Development portal then it opens it in file explorer quite easily.
Production portal is on https whereas development portal is on http. Also, UAG has been configured on production portal.
Any idea where it's getting stuck up? Surely, this is not a browser issue on Windows 7 as it's opening the development portal's document library on the same machine.
    I've also done following things:
    - Configured Desktop Experience on production environment
    - Installed the hotfix for Windows 7

    Hello Sohaib.
Here is the list of causes defined here.Hope it helps you
The cause and the resolution methods are the following:
Cause: There is a missing Root site collection...
Resolution: Check and ensure,  that the “Managed Paths” are not changed in the web Application’s page, there is a (root) explicit for
this web application and there is a working Root site collection.
If for any reason this is not the case in your environment, you may try the following:
    - Apply (if not already) the following Hotfix to one of those clients:
Error when you open a SharePoint Document Library in Windows Explorer or map a network drive to the library after you install Internet Explorer 10 in Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2846960
Then, try to delete the cache of the IE browser before reproducing the issue. Check the result..
    - Try to temporarily disable the Antivirus and test again.
    - Check if you have installed the Desktop Experience feature on the SPS13 server.
    - Check if you face this behavior with all users, Or only with some specific ones, Or with all different client OSes..
Otherwise you will need to collect the logs to further analyze...
