Problems opening downloaded books

Whenever I download a book that I purchased from B and N I get this message, "Document is licensed for different user account."  I can't open the book, find on my Nook or anything.  What am I doing wrong and how do I fix it?

Digital Editions does not yet support reading books purchased from Barnes & Noble.  To read the books on your computer, you best bet will bet download the B&N software.
As for it not appearing on you Nook, if your Nook is registered to your B&N account, then all purchased books should be in your My Library on your Nook.

  • How to open downloadable books using Overdrive?

    Hi,
(If this is not the most appropriate forum, would someone redirect me?)
The public library offers a great service in downloadable books. They are readable using Overdrive (extension .odm)
However, I cannot open them on my Mac. Here is what Apple has to say when I try to open my book:
Is there something I am missing? Or another way to do this? Surely Apple isn't blocking library books!

I found this info to be very clear and helpful:

  • Problem opening downloaded PDF files

When I click on a PDF link in Safari, I would normally expect the document to open with Acrobat 7.0.
What is happening now, is that the screen changes to 'browse' option asking me to identify which application will open the PDF. When I click on Acrobat 7.0, the screen goes blank.
So, basically, I can't open downloaded PDFs from Safari, (though it's Ok with Opera, Firefox etc)
In the Acrobat prefs, in the internet settings, 'Display PDF in browser using: Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional (7.0.0)' is checked.
Mac Power PC, 2G RAM, OSX 10.4.11; Safari 3.2.1, Acrobat 7.0.0

Do you have more that one version of Acrobat or reader loaded?
Only one is certified to work at a time.

  • Problems opening downloads on my iMac

I posted this question about a week ago, but never saw a response, and can not find it now.
I am not able to open downloads of software or other things. I know I should just be able to double click on the file and it should open, but it doesn't. When I right click on open with, it says 'do  nothing'... and that's exactly what it does.. nothing. I have found the path to the DiscImageMounter, but when I click on that I get an error message saying the file type is not recognized and cannot be opened. Somehow, the preference to open downloads has gotten corrupted.
Can anyone please suggest a fix for this.
    Thanks!
    iMac 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (c. 2007)
    4 Gb RAM
    OS 10.6.8

The startup disk may need repairing.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click:  Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If DU reports errors, start up your Mac from your install disc to make repairs.
Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks

  • IMac 10.5.8 - No application for opening downloaded books?

I have a problem specifically opening and transferring books to my Kindle. No problem exists with Amazon e/book site, but most others seem to be a problem. Book items are 'downloaded' but when taking the next step to open/transfer to Kindle there is quote  "no available application to open it". Does any one have any idea as to how I may solve this issue?  My iMac is pretty old and I do not seem to get software updates as before - which may be part of the problem?
    Thank you.
    Lance

Your iMac isn't that old, but it is not running the latest versions of OS X.
I believe there is a KIndle Reader app for OS X, but you need OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard to be able to both access the Mac App Store to download the app and, also, to install and run the Kindle Book app.
You first need to purchase and install OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Also, it wouldn't hurt to increase the RAM in your iMac.
Your year and model iMac can take 8 GBs of RAM.
Intel versions of OS X tend to need a working minimum of 4 GBs of RAM.
If you can, strongly advise installing the full 8 GBs of RAM.
Correct and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
Once OS X 10.6 is installled , you will need to use OS X Software Update function in OS X's System Prefernces Panel to update to OS X to OS X 10.6.8. This will give your iMac access to the Mac App Store.
If you wish, your iMac year and model can be updated, once , again, for another $20 U.S.D., to OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion OR your can directly update for FREE to OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
Here's the link to OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6377Z/A/os-x-mountain-lion
Before embarking on a OS X system upgrade, it would be very prudent to back up all of your important, personal data, beforehand.
You can choose just to backup the most important data by either burning data to CDs/DVDs, or copying data to large capacity USB flash drives.
The two better methods is to purchase a good quality external hard drive and backup the data and OS using OS X's Time Machine app to back your data up to an externally connected hard drive.
The other method is to backup your entire system and data using data cloning apps such as Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper to clone an exact copy of your iMac's internal hard drive to the externally connected hard drive.   Cloning data to an external drive will give that drive the ability to boot from in an emergency. Your Mac will be able to be booted and run off of an external drive.
The type of connection of an external hard drive is yours to choose. The two types of data transfer connections your Mac can use are USB 2.0 or FireWire 400/800.
If you want a hard drive that has a faster, continuous throughput of data and the possibilty of running your iMac from an external hard drive (in the event your Mac's internal hard drive fails or data becomes corrupt and your Mac system won't boot to the Mac's internal drive) opt for a FireWire drive. If none of this is important to you, then get a hard drive that uses a USB 2.0 connection, instead.
    Good Luck!

  • Problem opening downloaded report in Excel 2007 with Hierarchy (BW 3.5)

    Hi,
When we download a BW (3.5) report from the web to excel with an hierarchy (for example on a GL account or cost element) and try to open it in excel (version 2007), it takes a very very very long time (aprox. 15 minutes) to load a simple report. Normally this should only take 5 secs. When we download the same report without an hierarchy it opens as fast as normal.
This problem is very recent and in the last year at least we have never encountered it.
Do you know what could cause this and how we might be able to fix it?
Thank you very much for your help!!
    Kind regards,
    Hermen

Just recently i tried to purchase a book from Books on Board when i tried to download the book i was prompted to install an upgrade to DE 1.7. Since i have done this i have been unable to download any ebooks from any of websites that i have used in the past. Everytime i attempt to download a book i get the same prompt to download this update and each time i do i still cannot get the book. I have uninstalled and reinstalled DE 1.7 a number of times but still the problem remains. Can anybody please help me resolve this problem. I am using Windows Vista on a Dell computer. • Problem opening downloaded programs.

I've tried downloading programs like Mojo, Openoffice, neo office but after the download when I click to open the file an error message comes up saying not recognized. I bought my computer 3 months ago. When I download songs or anything this problem doesn't arise.

A couple of things to try:
    - Repair permissions using Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder) - click on your hard drive on the left side of the Disk Utility window and click Repair Permissions on the lower right.
    - Download the program using another browser (if you used Safari, try Firefox, and vice versa)

I cant open the downloaded games, open and blinked off everytime. the games that I downloaded are the HD games and I have enough space. At times I can open it and then it just switched off to the main page.

    Hi, Samantha.
This Virgin Digital Music Web page indicates that, among other things, their downloads require Windows Media Player.
Additionally, this page states:Please note that at this time Apple will not allow music bought on Virgin Digital to be played on an iPod. We are working towards changing this situation, so watch this space.
