Problems opening mac os generated psd files

Hello,
I have Photoshop Extended on my win7 x64 laptop, just updated to the 12.0.4 version.
I have a bug concerning opening a psd file generated on mac os
After this dialog, photoshop is totally frozen.
The supposed missing font is Helvetica, which in truth I have installed and running.
I tried to run the fontTest javascript, but there were no errors detected.
Does somebody have any idea on how to fix this?
Many thanks,
Silvia

Hello,
I found the cause of all the problems and frustrations with my ps extended: the font explorer plugin is buggy, so I just removed the folder form the plugin folder.
And now it works!
Sometimes less is more!

  • Can't Open with Photoshop on PSD file

If I right click on a PSD file and say open with Photoshop CS, it opens Photoshop but doesn't open the image. This also happens when I grag a graphic image to the Photoshop CS icon on the dock. If I right click and say Open with ImageReady, it works. Anyone else have this problem? Should I reinstall Photoshop? I can open Photoshop and then do a File->Open to open the image.
    Thanks,
    Alfredo

    Hi, Alfredo.
See "Image doesn't open when you double-click it or drag it to Photoshop icon (CS-CS2 on Mac OS X v10.3-10.4)."
    Good luck!

  • A frustrating problem I'm having importing PSD files into ID CS3

I am doing some page layouts for ads for magazines, and I've had a frustrating problem with Photoshop and InDesign CS3 for the longest time. Basically, I want to drag the PSD files we have already made for our products into my layout and use them as-is, but when I do so, they display as garbled ugly things in my InDesign CS3 layout, no matter what. The fix is for me to load the PSD, copy the contents, make a new file, paste the contents of the last other file, and save it as a new PSD file -- then things will work great. But this is a big pain in the buttocks and I'd like to fix the problem and eliminate this step.
You can see an example : http://twitpic.com/1kxp33 .
Basically, the image on the left shows the garbled image which has been dragged into the layout. It's just a normal PSD, single layer, but perhaps saved with some incompatibilty such as not being saved in "maximum compatibility mode" or having been saved with a color file attached. The pic on the right shows the correct image that I have manually resaved and imported.
Can anyone help me figure out why all of my PSD files are being garbled when I drag them into InDesign?

I just did a test there and the Maximise Compatibility had minimal effect (ironically) on how the image looks in InDesign CS3 or in InDesign CS5
However, I did get a warning that the image was saved witout Maximise compatibility and it may have an effect on performance, nothing else.
Perhaps the other people are not on the same version of photoshop as you are, perhaps run the adobe updater and make sure  you're all on the same version update for both apps.
Trashing preferences might clear up your photoshop images - hold down the three modifier keys bottom left corner of the keyboard when starting photoshop (sorry Peter I don't remember the Mac Combo )
Really hard to know why this is happening though.

  • I can't open up a specific .psd file in Photoshop cs6.

Well, there's a specific file I can't open. I've worked on it previously, but a week later, and it won't open. All of my other PS CS6 files are intact, and will open immediately. However, this one file takes so long to load (2+ hours) that I end up restarting my computer in order to work on all of my other things. The size isn't the issue, either; it's only 70 megabytes, as opposed to some of my more heavy-duty files that run upwards 200 megabytes.
I'm thinking about opening it on another computer to see what happens, but I'm concerned about the fact that I can't open this particular file. I'm not sure if it's corrupted, based on the fact that it just sits on my computer and just tells me that it's loading.
Is there something I can do to make it open, or modify the file? I've already tried defragging my computer and other things, and I'm at a loss here. I really don't want to start working on this from scratch, so I'd appreciate any help I can get.

Unfortunately, few have ever had much luck rescuing information from corrupted PSD files.
    Do you have a backup?

  • Problem with ghosted lines in PSD files

    Hi,
When I import PSD files into a DVCPRO HD 720p timeline I see a faint gray box around titles. I'm saving out as 8 bit (because 16 bit won't work) over a transparent background. aspect ratio is fine and I turn off maximize compatibility to increase quality. Very strange.
    Chase

Yeah, I don’t think it’s the .psd file format… Try the .tiff Zeb suggested though.
BTW I’m not sure “Maximize Compatibility” has much, if anything, to do with quality. More to do with file size and, well, compatibility…
When saving a file with maximum compatibility, a full-size, full-resolution flattened version is saved along with the actual Photoshop (.psd) file. The flattened version ensures that other programs that can use the Photoshop format show the image properly.
Please post back if you find a solution. I'm curious...
EDIT Oh, could this be a render "thing"? And, are you viewing this on an external NTSC monitor?? It is an RGB file right???

  • Problems opening Mac .fla files on a PC

    Hi,
Sorry in advance not to have fully searched the forums; I'm stuck away from work using crappy Australian 3G wireless....
A work partner is using Flash CS3 on a Mac.
She sends me her .fla files for me to edit which I cannot open.
    I'm using Flash CS4 on a PC.
Is there a simple way to fix this problem; it's driving us crazy and really slowing down development. I haven't had this problem before working between PC and Mac formats...
    Many thanks in advance,
    Mez

No special program should be needed. She can just right click on the item and Compress the file to a zip. I just tested it myself from home to work and it is fine. And you should just be able to Right click and extract all.
Since you are having problems with the zips my guess is that it has to do with how the files are getting sent.
You didn't answer my question about file sizes, but I'm guessing that they are way too small. The Mac tracks its files differently than Windows. So sometimes people get two files with the same names -- a small file that doesn't work and a larger one that is the correct file. Or perhaps just the smaller file. That is what I'm guessing is happening.
Make sure that the mac user has "Send Windows Friendly Attachments" selected. It is under the Edit menu I think. Or it can be selected on an attachment by attachment basis in the attaching dialog (assuming that she isn't just dragging and dropping it into the e-mail.)
If that isn't it the only other thing I can think of is that one or the other of you have some kind of accelerator software that is maybe messing up the attachments?

  • Problems deleting pdf's generated from files off of Snow Leopard Server

The small design studio I work at has just upgraded from G5's running 10.4 Tiger, working off Tiger Server, to new iMacs running 10.6 Snow Leopard and a Mac Mini Server, on Snow Leopard Server.
Normal working practice is to open files off the server across the network, making changes and saving them back down. Most of the time, a pdf will be generated from the file to send to the client when copy changes have been made, then saving down the pdf file to the iMac to email to the client.
The issue is now that when the pdf has been emailed, attempting to delete it brings up a warning window that 'You do not have sufficient accesses privileges to delete the file' and this then has to be done by selecting secure empty trash.
We are all registered users on the Mac Mini Server and this was not an issue we had when using Tiger.
Could anyone suggest any setting changes that would be required to get around this issue?
As a note, all the work files were originally on a older G4 being used as a sever and were copied to the new Mac Mini Server, that was set up as a new machine and was not done via transfer files.
    Thanks
    Ben

    Hello Ben,
I'm very sorry, but this is not the correct forum in which to post your question! Universal Access is the facility for ensuring that all Mac users can benefit fully from their machines, regardless of disability.
Try Snow Leopard Server—Installation, Setup and Migration instead!
    Cheers,

  • Problem opening a 6.0.1 file on keynote 5.3

    Hey Guys, need your help.
First about sorry for my english, I'll try to do my best...
I recently made a downgrade from Mavericks to Mountain Lion because I had some problems.
The thing is that I created a Keynote presentation with the last version of the program, which is 6.0.1, I saved it on a USB flash drive, and did the downgrade through Time Machine.
When I tried to open the file it shows me a message that is not possible to open it because it's from a later version.
The current version that I have is 5.3
Any Ideas about how can I solve it?
Does anybody here owns the 6.0.1 version, so I can send to him and he returns it to me on an older version.
    Thank you.

Using Keynote 6, export the version 6 file as a Keynote 5.3 (iWork 09 file).

  • I am having problems opening a copy protected cd file

I am trying to open a CD which contains mainly PDF files and is copy protected but somehow it doesn't open and doesn't even appear anywhere on my computer. I have managed to access it through the Disk Utility and foun the CD on hidden folder volumes, but when I try to open the disk the folder inside it appears for a few seconds and disappears, as if the disk was blank. I suppose that it has to do with the copy protection, since the content appears to be in the disk.....If someone could please enlighten me on this subject I would appreciate very much, because I really need the files on this CD with kind of a hurry! Thank you!

On the Mac open System Preferences > iCloud.  Deselect the box next to:  Documents & Data then reselect it.
On the iPad tap Settings > iCloud
Switch Documents & Data off then back on.
Give iCloud a minute to re sync the data then try opening that document on either your Mac or iPad,

  • I'm trying to open Mac based indesign cc files in PC with no luck

I get the error message that no plugins are present but they are in the PC Adobe directory. I don't have access onto the mac as it password protected but was able to offload all the files so I can't convert them to older format. How do I get the files to recognize the plugins on my PC?
    Jeff

Mac and Windows INDD files are identical. The only time you should see this is if you tried to open an INDD file created in a later version of InDesign.
Given that you have supplied nothing in the way of details for InDesign versions, operating systems and exact error messages, that’s the best I can do.

  • How can i open Mac formatted zip drive files on my pc

i have been given some zip drive discs which have been Mac formatted...how do i open these on a pc...is there any software i can install on my pc to read these formatted zip drive discs??

    Hi Stuart,
you can also have a look at HFSExplorer: http://hem.bredband.net/catacombae/hfsx.html
At the moment however it can only read not write to Mac drives.
But it is free and maybe sufficient.

  • Problem Opening Mac Browser with Ostermiller lib

Has anyone had this problem when trying to open a browser window more than once from a java application on OSX with IE5.1:
    NSRuntime.loadLibrary(/usr/lib/java/libObjCJava.dylib) error.
    java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /usr/lib/java/libObjCJava.dylib

    at java.lang.Class.forName(Class.java:195)
    at com.Ostermiller.util.Browser.displayURL(Browser.java:217)
The first time a browser window needs to be launched, it works, but any subsequent call kills the program and results in the above error message.

I heard that Apple finally implemented the MRJ method to open the browser in a recent version of OS X. I suppose it would be best to try to detect that a recent version of OS X is running and call the supported method.
