Problems opening up 2011 raw files in current Photoshop.

I'm having problems opening up some of my older RAW files in Photoshop CS6 and CC. It extends to both dng and cr2 files. They display as a monotone image, with no original color present. I can copy the files to another computer with CS5 and open them up there and they're fine, and I can resave them and they're OK. But this could be a looming problem. What's going on?

Ha! It's a camera profile thing, I have a profile for my IR converted 5D, and for some reason some of my files had that profile applied. If I opened it in a computer without that profile on it, it opened up fine. Thanks.

The EOS 70D was first supported in Camera Raw 8.2 which is only compatible with Elements 12.
You won't be able to open Raw files from the 70D in Elements 11.

  • Opening Canon T2i raw files in CS5 Photoshop

ACR 5.7 for CS4 opens raw files from my Canon T2i. CS5 Photoshop will not open my files. Did I really just pay $600 to take a step backward in camera compatibility? I have looked through the documentation and on the website and have now been on hold for 25 minutes with Adobe. Should it be this hard to get a simple answer?

Camera Raw 5.7 (CS4) came out after Camera Raw 6.0 (CS5) was frozen for production.  Nine cameras that are in 5.7 are not in 6.0.  The T2i is on that list. You must wait for the 6.1 upgrade due out 'soon'.   See:

  • Problem opening up a RAW file with CS2

I just bought an Olympus E30 camera and shot in RAW. When I uploaded to my computer I was able to open them up with the Olympus editing program but when I try to open in CS2 it gives me an error message that it doesn't recognize the file. File example: _C181661.ORF

In order for photoshop cs2 to open the E30 files you need to use the 6.6 DNG Converter to convert your files to dng copies and then cs2 should be able to open them.

I get a message saying file not recognised or corrupt.

Yes to your "Is it too old" question, I'm afraid. Raw support for that model was not introduced until Lightroom 3.4 (which you can no longer purchase). Your options are either to upgrade to LR5 (assuming your hardware and OS is capable), or download the latest version of Adobe's free stand-alone DNG Converter and use this to convert your Raws to DNG which your LR 2 should be able to read.

Noel - I do use a card reader and always have! I don't go direct from the camera. As I point out, I am working around the problems that are stated above and I am here forcing myself to learn by asking those questions. Thanks though. I’m not ignoring anyone if I were I wouldn’t have all the comments above.
Jeff - I mentioned that I'm a teacher and need to know what I'm doing with the software. Sorry for the attitude.
I am an artist before a teacher it’s just that I like to be proficient when I teach (google me).
Why do you feel such animosity towards education? I’m really sorry I posted here at all.
    ssprengel -
I am equally as surprised and not blaming LR4 just making an observation. I have used LR for years and manage a library of over 60,000 images with it. It is my software of choice and will continue to be. But this has become a persistent problem only with the D800 14bit NEF +- 45MB files, all other files from my Nikon DX cameras and my Canon cameras are fine. I’m not blaming LR4 it could also be the Nikon NEF, I just don’t know why LR4 truncates the D800 files and other software doesn’t.
    - if I move files using Nikon ViewNX 2 or Windows7 Explorer the files simply move without problem. When I move them using LR4 they become truncated (no end of file error message). If I move them with LR4 and then copy over them into the new folder with the original copy, LR4 corrects and is able to deal with the file in their new destination. (this means a lot of extra work and saving the originals in another directory LR4 doesn’t see).
It's confusing. I have reinstalled LR4 3 times already and checked the hard disks. The bottom line is that both Windows and ViewNX will move the file without altercation. I don’t know why? Yet further confusion. Please realize that I am aware this may be an isolated issue and I intend to ask one of the college techs. to look at the problem.
I am not attacking Adobe, I only use Adobe products with my images and I want it to work that’s why I came here in the first place. I have a lot of money invested in Adobe software both here and all our other licences. Please stop using words like blame, reporting an issue is not blaming. Don’t shoot me I’m just conveying my current (personal) experiences with the product. I’m trying to figure out why and how to make it work.
This is my last post on this thread. Thanks a lot for all your help. I remain a faithful Adobe client and appreciative of all your kind remarks and assistance above.

  • I can't open or view RAW files?

I have two Macs. One is an iMac and one is a Macbook. I usually always use my iMac for photo processing and storage. And I use an external hard drive to store all my photos.
Now I recently had to take my macbook with me because I was going out of town and could not transport my iMac. But I was missing a lot of updated things on my macbook, such as my preferences and settings, apps, files, etc, since I rarely use it... and I wanted to transfer all that to my Macbook without the use of tedious uploading and formatting. So I reformatted my macbook by backing it up onto an external drive, erasing the disk, and then migrating my data from my iMac to my macbook. Everything seemed just fine with all my latest settings and files where they should be... until I opened a folder or Bridge and could not view or open any RAW files.
It said I did not have enough access privileges. I am the admin of both my computers, but I do have other accounts for my mom and 2 others for whatever reason (they have never interfered before). I rarely use those accounts and they are NOT admins. But it said that only my mom's account had the privileges to read and write the files on my external hard drive (which has all my photos.) I logged into her account, and sure enough, I could view and open all the RAW files. I can view and open jpegs on my account now, but not any RAW files.
I tried going to "get info" on the external drive, and it said that everyone could read and write. But when I went to individual folders and files, it said only my mom could read and write. And even when changing the permissions so that everyone could, it still didn't work.
I also have the latest software updates... I have tried doing disk utility. And right now it's still going, saying it has 8 hours left, and so far there are hundreds of thousands of problems. It never was like this until just today.
I really need to get this problem solved. I have work to do and without being able to even see my RAW files, yet alone edit them, makes it really hard. I also want to avoid creating a new account because my account now has all my personal stuff... from all my music on my iTunes, to my actions, to my settings, applications, etc. And it would be very hard to redo all of that. So it would be great if I could somehow fix my user privileges.
Does anyone know what to do? I'd appreciate any help from you!

  • Does Adobe have a plug in for Photoshop CS6 to open Nikon P7800 raw files?

I recently purchased a Nikon P7800 camera.  I am using a MacBook Pro computer and Adobe Photoshop CS6.  Does Adobe have a plug-in/update that will allow me to open the camera raw files?  If they do where do I find it to install it?

What version of Camera Raw are you currently using? You need at least version 8.3 but the latest version is 9.

I just purchased the new Canon SX60 camera. Despite downloading and installing the latest version of Adobe DNG converter, I receive an error message saying that Photoshop CS4 can't open up/convert raw files (.CR2). This is the same file format as used by the SX50, with which I never had any problem. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix this problem? Thanks.

Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras  I do not see that SX60 as supported. Just how new is the SX60 when was it announces. Its support is not even listed in ACR 8.7 RC

  • Photoshop CC will not open EOS 40D RAW files

I recently updated to Photoshop CC 2014 but cannot open Canon EOS 40D .CR2 RAW files.
I can open and edit them in Lightroom but if I attempt to 'Edit in...' Photoshop from Lightroom, I get a message suggesting that I update to Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 8.6 using the update tool in the Photoshop help menu.
However, the Updates... menu item is greyed out, unavailable.
How can I resolve this issue?

    Thank you again, JJMack.
As soon as you start CC 2014 press and hold Ctrl+Alt+shift or CMD+Optiom+Shift Photoshop should prompt it you want your preferences deleted.
I have tried to reset preferences, a couple of times, both by deleting the file 'Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 Prefs.psp' and by using the keyboard shortcut you suggest (also to both older versions of Photoshop on my drive) but the 'Update...' option under Help remains greyed out (on all versions).
All PS version install by default on the Boot disk and happy coexist. Problem arise when you install newer version of PS then use Adobe uninstllers to un-install previous versions. Often this process messes up file associations of the newer install. I just delete the install tree.
I don't recall ever having used an uninstaller. I have twice cloned my entire boot disk however, complete with all applications including Photoshop, most recently about a year or so ago when switching to a SSD. I don't know if that might have messed things up along the way. I have no idea what deleting the install tree entails?
The superscription versions of Photoshop CS6 13.1, CC 14.2.1 and CC 15.0 as well as the perpetual version of CS6 13.0  should have just been updated with ACR 8.6 you should not need  to convert to DNG for there version of PS. If your Cannon is very new you may need to convert to DNG for CS5.
Re: Photoshop CC will not open EOS 40D RAW files
My Canon EOS 70D is listed as supported by ACR 8.6 and in fact, having now hunted down the ACR 8.6 download link (why is it so hidden? why isn't incorporated into the Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 installer?) and installed it, Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 does now open my .CR2 files directly in ACR 8.6 in Photoshop.
    So problem solved, I guess.
All except the greyed out 'Updates...', which still lingers on.
Thanks again for all your help.

  • Opening Nikon D7000 raw files in Elements 8

I am unable to open Nikon D7000 NEF files in Elements 8. I have been unsuccessfull in downloading the version 5.7 update from the web site. After downloading several times the files are still not recognized in Elements 8.

I am using Windows 7. I tried selecting the folder that contained the folder holding the pictures to be converted. I then single-clicked the folder holding the pictures and hit select. A message came up stating that the source folder did not contain any supported camera raw files.I have spoken with my Elements software supplier and this is his response:
"I've done some digging and it turns out the Nikon D7000 wasn't supported in elements until the release of version 6.4 Adobe Camera Reader. So to make sure you have the latest ACR update installed. You can check which one you have by going into elements and clicking Help>About Plug-In>Camera Raw. And if it's not 6.7 then Help>Updates will find it and let you install the latest version. You could also try saving your camera files as .RAW instead of .NEF, and then opening them in elements. Adobe lightroom 4 should already have these plugins available right outside the box, but if you can save the money and run updates instead that would work just fine." I have checked for Elements updates for the Camera Raw plug-in and the message appears stating no updates are available. The camer raw plug-in version is currently 6.1.0.250.

What operating system are you using?
The most common cause is pointing the dng converter to the actual files and not just to the folder that the camera raw files are in.
There is an example of how on a windows system in this thread:

  • Opening Canon T4i RAW files in PSE10

    Hello everyone
I recently traded in my Canon T3i for a T4i, and now PS Elements 10 won't open the CR2 RAW files from this camera.   According to "Help - Plug In" I have V 6.7, so I went to the Adobe site which said I needed V 7.1, which I download, and extracted, but it won't install it in the software; when I click on the extracted AdobePatchInstaller application, I get a message stating  "Update Failed" and "this patch is not applicable for you".   Also, when I click "Help-Updates" it tells me everything is up to date.  What can I do?
    Scutty

Some jokingly call it the Adobe Tax.  If you buy a recently released camera, the specifications for RAW files are probably different than previous models.  Adobe takes those specs, camera by camera, and adds thme to ACR.  Adobe does not make current new versions of ACR available to legacy software.  Hence the "tax".  You wrote that your newly released camera is in 7.1.  To use ACR 7.1 conveniently ("natively"?) you have to have the versions of Adobe's tools that use the 7.x series.  That would be Photoshop Elements 11, Premier Elements 11 and Lightroom 4.x
It was my turn to learn the lessons of the Adobe Tax for a Sony RX100 I bought last year!
Adobe is not entirely rude about this!  They give away the "Adobe DNG Converter" that is updated in parallel with ACR.  You can, with out paying a cent, download the converter and it will make Elements 10 compatable .DNG files from your CR2 files.
    Good luck!
    Bill
