Problems opening/updating/installing Spotify

Hi.
I've been having problems with Spotify freezing and not closing unless I restarted my laptop completely for a while now. I've tried to update it and this just seems to make the whole problem worse. I can open the log in window and then I get a "Performing first time setup" window, the bar on this gets to the end and then it freezes and the window won't close or do anything (unless I restart, of course). I've read a few posts on here about similar problems so I've reinstalled Flash and I'm now trying to install a new spotify update but it doesn't seem to want to install at all! I get a little "Spotify Installer" window but the green bar just goes along as if it's loading. I left it to it earlier and it went on for about an hour and a half so it's clearly not me being impatient!
I'm out of ideas as to what to do to get this to work which is disappointing as I'm on Spotify Unlimited and I miss decent music, my little iTunes library just doesn't compare!

Thanks for getting in touch, I am sorry that you are having these problems.
I'd recommend following the directions below for a clean reinstall:
Mac:
First you have to Uninstall Flash, click on the link below on how to uninstall

Then clean reinstall the spotify app, below is how to clean reinstall
1. Quit Spotify
2. In the finder, locate and delete the following folders:
~/Library/Caches/com.spotify.Client
~/Library/Application Support/Spotify
3. Locate and delete the Spotify app (from the application folder)
4. Empty trash, then restart
5. Download and install Spotify latest version: https://www.spotify.com/download/
OSX LION users:
Apple have masked the user "Library" folder to prevent accidental deletion. You can access it by choosing 'Go', from the top menu in the Finder. Hold down 'alt' key, and the library should appear as a folder you can now open.
Go on to the spotify programme and see if it works if that does not work click on the top right spotlight tab and follow the instruction below
1. Open the Terminal (Applications folder, Utilities, Terminal)
2. Type the following: /Applications/Spotify.app/Contents/MacOS/Spotify
3. You will now see the log output from Spotify.
Windows PC:
1. Quit Spotify (File » Exit)
2. Un-install Spotify (Start » Control Panel » Programs / Uninstall a Program » Spotify)
3. Restart your computer (optional)
4. Download and install the latest version of Spotify (available here: http://www.spotify.com/download/)

  • Macbook Pro 13" problems opening apps, installing updates and lag.

    Hey guys i got a Macook Pro 13" a few months ago and now I cant open itunes or limewire and a few other applications. They just bounce for 30 seconds and i get a message that it's unexpectedly quit and the options if i wana report it or not. I've done repair permissions made a new account and still no progress. I've inserted the cd it came with to do a hardware test and as its booting back up I hear a click sound and everything shuts off. Another thing to add is that there is alot of lag takes awhile for it to open up the finder files.
    Is this a RAM problem? I went to about this computer and it says the status is ok and iv taken out 1 of 2 of my rams twice too see if the problem still continued and it did. Or am I going to need a new hard drive?
    Iv also tried to do a software update but as im installing it i get the unexpected quit error again.
    please help

    The 1600MHz RAM "should" work on a system that has a 1333MHz bus, since it is only going to down-clock the RAM; however, the system was not tested with this configuration and there may be unexpected behaviors from it.
    If it's not specifically a compatibility issue with the speed ratings, it may be an issue with bad sectors in the RAM itself. To test this, load the Apple Hardware Test suite by booting your system with the "D" key held down (or Option-D to load the tools from the Internet). When the tools load, check the box for the extended memory test and run it. This will take several hours to complete, but will report any bad memory addresses it finds.
    If you find any bad addresses, then you should be able to return the RAM for a replacement since most manufacturers supply lifetime warranties for RAM modules.

  • Problems after Updates installed

    I apologize in advance if this topic has already been addressed, I'm living in Rwanda at the moment and have rather infrequent and very slow access to internet and thus have not been able to go through all the recent posts. Also, sorry for the un-technical terminology...
    I installed Apple's suggested updates on my MacBook Pro (bought a year and a half ago)and after getting the "restart" portion of the process have had problems. After turning on, the computer does not transition from the gray screen (with the apple logo and the turning circle)to the desktop. I kept it going for over 7 hours as the circle kept moving, indicating it was doing something.
    Can anyone help me find the problem and/or the solution?

    Try Booting in Safe Mode (hold down shift at startup) and see if that goes better. If it hasn't come to the Desktop within a couple of minutes it's not going to ... hold down the Power button and turn it off
    Then try this:
    Boot holding down Apple/S and don't let go until you see scrolling text.
    When that stops and you see a root#: prompt enter
    *fsck -fy*
    Let it run through all the checks and repairs.
    If it fails first time, at any time, or finds and fixes a fault - run the command again and keep doing so (some fixes can take several passes) until it says "Appears to be OK" then enter
    reboot

  • Itunes won't open, update, install, uninstall, Windows DEP prevents me doing anything with itunes.

    I have tried all the solutions on here so far, Windows Vista DEP stops itunes working and despite me being administrator I don't have the "privaleges" to remove programs and re-install!! Itunes wont install 10.5 but no error message pop up.

    Silly question for you. The project you are attempting to
    open in C4 isn't by chance still open in C3 is it?
    I know there are issues adding a Captivate output to Robohelp
    if the project is still open in Captivate which is what prompted me
    to ask.

    Sounds like you somehow got the mac version.

    off in that other post, you described seeing a little yellow shield in your task bar. is that a Norton live update notification, or a Windows update notification? (i've seen it in my task bar too, but i can't recall off-hand which one of those it's signifying.)

  • App store app will no longer open after installing Mavericks. How do I update in future??

    Many of the apps that came with my MacBook Pro when I bought it direct from Apple last year now crash the moment the icon appears in the Dock since I installed Mavericks. These include Calendar, Pages, Contacts, Preview (all of these were updated after I installed Mavericks) and, most worrying, The App Store app. If and when Apple produces updates to sort out the bugs in the new system, how can I get them if I cannot open the App Store? Has anyone else found answers to these problems? I can get around some of these problems eg by installing Adobe Reader instead of Preview but I don't want to be stuck with a system I cannot update.     It sounds like you have an issue with your installation of Mavericks. I would suggest that attempt to Safe Boot your computer first as a troubleshooting step to see if the issue can be resolved that way:

  • Suitcase Fusion won't open after installing the 10.5.8 update - Solution

    This is a bit of an open and shut post as I've found the solution, but it's a bit obscure so thought I'd stick it up here in case anyone else had this problem.
    After installing the 10.5.8 update, Suitcase Fusion (am using v12.1.7) would bounce once in the dock and then abort. I called Applecare (who had surprisingly not heard of this Application) and they suggested moving the com.extensis.suitcase.plist preferences file to the desktop and restarting my Mac (essentially resetting Suitcase Fusion).
    No joy.
    I didn't feel that re-installing Suitcase Fusion was going to do any good, so said thank you and went back to scouring Google …and lo, the solution was there all along…
    The problem had something to do with the *Bonjour Name* of my Mac. Apparently, if you have any special characters in your *Computer Name* or if it exceeds 20 characters, then this causes a problem with the *Bonjour Name* and then consequently with Suitcase Fusion …simples.
    See? …told you it was obscure.
    Solution:
    1. Open *System Preferences > Sharing*
    2. Change the *Computer Name* to something shorter with no spaces or special characters, something like MyName-MacBookPro
    (NB. If you're not logged in as an Admin user, you'll need to click the lock and enter a password first)
    3. Click Edit… to ensure that the .local name is the same
    4. Close *System Preferences* and restart your Mac
    And Bob's your Uncle, that should do the trick :o)

    That may be, but I didn't find it without considerable digging. And neither Applecare nor Extensis had heard of the problem/solution.
    Just thought it would be helpful, that's all.

    You need to install Java SE 6 to run those programs. There has been quite a bit of discussion here about that. Something at one of these links should get you going...

    Which version of Photoshop do you have? The current version is 13.0.6.

    Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library' and start.
