Problems playing albums and playlist solutions

I am using iTunes 11 on a Win 7 platform and find that any music imported prior to v11 update will only play one or two tracks from an album.  I find I have to highlight the whole list and add to play next. I also have similar issues with playlists. Ok on newly imported though. I can just hit the play icon and the whole album is loaded to the next play list.
I have run the repair tool over the program, but no improvement yet. Any suggestions?
John

Which burn speed do you use in iTunes? "Best"? If so, try lowering the burn speed to 8x or less.

Previously downloaded albums and playlists wont play.  The only music that will play are those listed as "Recently Added".  When I attempt to play any other music, I get the error message "The song could not be used because the original file could not be found."  I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes.  Any suggestions?

It is very possible that you have transferred icons only. This is a mistake I know I have made.

  • Can I get my music collection (play counts and playlists inc.) from my iPad to my PC?

I had a problem with iTunes where I couldn't add songs to the library because I didn't have sufficient permissions to edit my iTunes library (even though I did). After a few days of tweaking administrator permissions and the like, I got really annoyed and tried re-installing iTunes to see if it would make it go away. Whilst the iTunes64Setup.exe file was downloading, I was fiddling with the .itl and .xml files in my iTunes folder and when I re-installed iTunes I had lost all my play counts and playlists. When iTunes opened, I assumed it must have overwritten the two files because when I looked at them in Windows Explorer they were both a lot smaller in size.
Obviously, I didn't sync my iPad or iPhone after this had happened, so I still have the playlists and play counts stored on them. Is there any way I can:
    a) Recover a previous version of the .xml and .itl files on my laptop and use them to restore my plays?
    or
    b) Use iTunes Match to restore them onto my laptop?
I'm not sure about b). When you subscribe to Match, does it analyze your current library and then save it to the Cloud so you can redownload it?
I'm going to buy the new iPhone when it is released in the next couple of months so I'm willing to jailbreak my iPhone 4 if need be.
    Thanks for any help.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Or see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

I got an iPhone 4 a week ago. I synced my iTunes once and now I want to change what albums and playlists are on my phone. When I try to do this, iTunes threatens to remove all my apps. Of course, Apple's support is no help. I know there has to be a way to add and remove whole albums and playlists like on the music tab on the device, so please don't tell me to uncheck/delete everything from my iTunes that I don't want and re-sync. That is not helpful and not the issue. How do I get around it threatening to remove all my apps?

On the MacBook, go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Advanced > Disable remote control

I cannot remove albums and playlists from my iPhone; I deselect them in iTunes, but they remain.  I can add new albums and playlists

How did the photos/albums get onto the phone ?
Only photos taken with the iPhone or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the phone - either via the trashcan icon at the bottom right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it top right in thumbnail view. Albums that you've created directly on the phone can be deleted via the Edit button at the top right of the album selection screen.
Photos/albums that were synced from your computer are deleted by moving/removing/de-selecting them from where they were synced from on your computer and then re-syncing

One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem.
    Also heating sometimes works. See:

A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes

  • I can't find a particular album on my ipod, yet it appears on my computer ipod both in albums and playlists (thought a playlist of the album would shortcut the search). Any thoughts on how to fix this?

I have put a few audiobooks on my ITunes and wanted to play them on my ipod. However, they don't come up either my artist or album lists, despite appearing to be present when I look at them on the computer ITunes. I tried to make them easier to find by making a playlist, but the problem remains - present on the computer but not there on my ipod. Its like they are invisible on my ipod!
Has anyone come across this sort of problem before? How can I fix it?

I don't know if it's considered a problem, I think it's just part of the design of the program. Some might consider it a flaw in the design. But at least you've found a workaround.

  • Un-shuffle albums and playlists

I just got one of the new ipod touch's 32GB, and whenever I go to play an album or a playlist it just shuffles the order without me selecting it to. I can't find an option in the settings that would correct this.
What am I missing? and how can I just listen to things in order?

For playlists there is a "Shuffle" selection at the top of the list. If you don't select this then the shuffle option will be off for the playlist.
If you have selected "Shuffle" then you can turn it off by touching the album cover of a song being played. This brings up the playback controls one of which is the shuffle control (two crossed arrows). If this is blue in color then Shuffle is On. You turn it Off by touching the control which will then turn white in color.
PS: There is also a "Shake to Shuffle" option in Settings. If it is on then shaking the iPod will change the selection.
FYI, this is all covered in the User Guide at: http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPod_touch_iOS4_UserGuide.pdf
There is also a version of the User Guide available via Safari on your iPod Touch.

  • Playing artists and playlists on 160GB classic

Is it possible to shuffle songs on the classic when playing a certain artist or playlist back?

    Hey there,
If you head to Settings->Shuffle you may be able to find the answer you are looking for. I believe it only shuffles songs and albums, but if you left it on songs and listened to a playlist, it would also play them at random. Hope this helps.

  • Do all albums and playlists offer the option for "available offline?" I seldom see this option.

I very rarely see the option to listen offline. Is this normal for most playlists and albums to not have the option for the Spotify app (android) to allow me to listen offline.

No ! Still no drop down. I've used the same drive all year.
Really confused especially when it's happening on my desktop computer as well as
Lap top. There's no issue importing into the internal drive as I've just tried that and it worked fine

  • ITunes, albums and playlists...

Is there anyway to make iPod handle albums better? At present it is much more geared to those that want to just listen to individual track, where I much rather listen to an entire album. One example: recently added albums to your iPod. If you go to the recently added playlist it just shows all of the tracks, I would much rather see a list of the recently added albums. As of now I have to make a playlist for each album as I add them. Which is cumbersome and time consuming, especially when the technology is already there (yes, you can go into the albums list but it's not very efficient when you're trying to find one or two newly added album out of the potential hundreds on the iPod). All of the iPod's settings, playlists, etc are geared this way too. Has Apple ever addressed this? There has to be more than just me out there that appreciates listening to an album in it's entirety rather than some one-hit wonder's tracks.
    TIA,
    Greg

If you are asking if this can be done on the iPod (the title of your post seems to suggest you are asking about iTunes), then the answer is no. A playlist is just a list of songs.
All of the iPod's settings, playlists, etc are geared this way too.
Yes, playlists are "geared" this way but settings? Not sure what you mean by that.
    Has Apple ever addressed this?
Apple has gone some way to address this by adding the capability to use playlist folders on the iPod as you can in iTunes.
The bad news? It's not a facility that the iPod 5th gen is capable of, only newer iPods such as the classic and last 2 gens of nano can display playlist folders created in iTunes.

  • Play Counts and Playlist Transfer

I have a new PC and have saved my existing library to the exterbal hard drive. The new PC came with the latest itunes program and although I can transfer the music into the new itunes program, my playlists and play counts do not come with it.
    Any thoughts on this?
    Ta Very much

I suspect you've left something out of the mix in the transfer...
These are two possible approaches that should work to move the existing library to the new laptop.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase are reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you can no longer access the original library or a backup see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
