Problems playing video within flash application on windows 7

Hello, I am trying to debug a problem with a stand-alone flash player application.  I have been given some educational content that has been packaged as an adobe flash player application for windows.
This program has embedded mp4 files.  I can see the files on disk also and I can play them fine with every video player on my PC.
However when I play the videos inside the flash application they video sticks, replaying the first frame over and over (the audio continues fine).  I don't think this is a problem with the adobe application because it works fine on several other machines.
This seems to be an issue with one specific machine (windows 7) and how it interacts with this application.
The properties tab on the abobe player exe shows a version of 11.4 r402.
I have tried to research this online and also on these forums but all advice seems targeted at the players for browsers, and this is something different. I am not sure how it is produced, I think perhaps by some adobe packaging product the provider is using.
I also realize this may be the wrong forum but it was the best match I could find.
Any tips and pointers greatly appreciated!
thanks
James

Any ideas here? Even a suggestion for a better forum would be great.
I am really confused that the videos play fine with media players I have but not within the adobe player app.
Any suggestions?

  • Problem Playing Video in Premiere Pro CS4

I am having a problem playing video in premiere pro. When I input any movie clip and try to play it in both the timeline and in the preview mode, the audio works fine but the video only plays a few seconds worth of footage at a really slow pace so that it takes up the entire time. For instance if I load a 3 minute video, the sound is normal but over the coarse of that 3 minutes I will only see a small number of the frames and they are cycled through in ultra slow motion.
All the clips play normally outside of premiere. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program. I have premiere installed on my laptop and it works fine. I have tried rendering the video first and it still doesn't work. I have tried holding shift before the program is loading and it did nothing. I have downloaded all the updates too. Videos seem to play fine in After Effects.
Also, I am having trouble when importing HD video into premiere and after effects. For some reason the programs freeze when I try to import footage from my Creative Vado HD pocket video camera.
    Here are my computer specs
    Windows Vista Ultimate 32 Bit
    Intel Core2 Quad q8200
    ATI Radeon 4670 Graphics Card
    Gigabyte Motherboard
    4GB of 800 Mhz RAM
This is really frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Keith,
The file extension .AVI indicate a "wrapper." All sorts of stuff can be in that wrapper *. Some of that stuff will play/edit fine. Much will not and create issues, as you have seen. Your camera uses a CODEC to create those .AVI files. That CODEC is the issue. I recommend G-Spot to find out what the CODEC is. Some times it's just a matter of having the proper CODEC installed on the computer. Most of the time, it takes much more than that - hence Eddie's links on "conversion." At least G-Spot will get us all on the same playing field, and explicit help can follow - probably to study Eddie's links. My guess is that your camera uses some form of DivX CODEC, hence the problem that you see.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
    * Think of .AVI like the foil wrapper on a stick of gum, when you remove the outer lable. You know it's gum, but not what flavor. Could be Juicyfruit, or Spearmint, or Double-mint. G-Spot will tell you the flavor. PrPro likes some flavors, but hates others.

  • Sync and frame rate problems importing video to Flash CS3

Just like the subject states, I am indeed having frame rate problems importing video to Flash CS3.
When I export a video from Premiere with the settings:
    1280x720
    frame rate of 23.976
using H264 or Animation (basically every codec produces the same results),
"embed video on SWF and play in timeline"
When I do this the file exports fine. Playing it in Quicktime works fine and the audio syncs up no problem. But when I import it into Flash using the same settings, for some reason the movie clip is now too fast in that the video does not match the audio and seems to be at more like 12 fps now (just a guestimate). The action of the video is over long before the audio even comes in.I have verified that the frame rate is correct in Flash so it's not that.
I've done this literally hundreds of times in the past and suddenly it does not work and I can not figure out why. I'm not even really using video, but actually artwork that I am putting together as an animatic for an animated piece so the video could not have been imported incorrectly or digitized wrong either. Can someone out there please tell me how to make this work? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
    -Mike

Thanks for you quick response however it really doesn't apply to what I am doing in any way. I will not be uploading the video to a server. I am using the imbed function so I can use it as a layer and then animate over it. It is just reference and will ultimately be deleted. The Fla file does indeed carry the same specs as I stated in my first post. I have done it this way dozens of times and I am trying to figure out why it suddenly will not work.

  • Trouble playing video in Desktop Application

    Hi,
I'm trying to play two H.264 encoded videos (.mov) within an AS3 desktop application. I have tried publishing both Air and Projector but both are having (different) problems with playback. When testing the swfs within Flash they both work fine.
I'm using a simple NetStream function to play the videos from a local directory. Like I said they both run fine within Flash, so I feel like I'm missing something obvious, but have found it difficult to find documentation on streaming locally.
The Air app works best, but can't seem to play the second video. (I also have been having awful trouble getting around security issues of Air as I'm using LocalConnection in another part of the app, so would prefer not to use it).
The projector starts playing both videos but very quickly starts to stutter and choke, and eventually freezes the entire app.
The Adobe documentation says that it is possible to use NetStream locally, but maybe this isn't the case?
    Anyone have any ideas?!
    Thanks,
    Maryann

I think you started the right way - there'd be no reason to suspect this problem would exist initially. I don't have a direct solution for you, but I find that it's helpful to create small-scale samples of what the problem is, and suggest trying the following...
Create a simple SWF file that only loads & plays the video. Don't do anything else in this file (in the unlikely event that something else is affected video playback), and then view these in the projector and AIR manner.
Also, just try using the included video component in another simple example, and view in projector/AIR, just to see if you encounter the same playback issues. If you do, I'd initially suspec something about your computer system versus Flash.
I haven't run across, or seen issues like this, with regards to loading/controlling video using the NetConnection and Netsrream classes... I've done a few projects with H.264 videos, but they were in the MP4 format, not MOV (I'd guess there should be no playback difference, though).
One last thought - what is the data rate you compressed your videos to? If it's a really high one (2 megabits per second), maybe it's too taxing on your system (and is too high for general broadband viewing, anyways).

  • Safari is not working. Many (not all) graphics not shown, won't play video, says Flash is missing, will not respond to login or query submissions. Firefox seems OK. Help?

This seemed to happen as I was working today. Pages are not fully loading (spinning wheel on tab never stops) and most graphics don't show. Videos are not playing and game sites say I need Adobe Flash. I tried downloading Flash, but that just didn't happen either. At the same time Firefox seems fine, including loading the same games, playing video, logging in and queries.
It seems like a bug, but ProtectMac Antivirus has screened several times today with no threats found. (Also says its software is up to date as of today.)
I don't want to remove Flash if its really installed and working.
Should I uninstall and reinstall Safari?

    Hi Jonthan ...
    ProtectMac Antivirus
First, uninstall the ProtectMac Antivirus >   http://www.protectmac.com/support/faq.html#qt18
If you want to have a/v software installed on a Mac either ClamXav or Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac  Edition are far more compatible with Apple native applications such as Safari and both are free.
Then try troubleshooting Flash. The plugin you have installed now may be corrupted.
Uninstall then reinstall a new Flash plugin >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Very important to uninstall the currently installed plugin first.
Now relaunch Safari. From the Safari menu bar top of your screen click Safari > Empty Cache
Now try a video and see if pages load as they should.
    And go to:   HD/Library/Internet-Plug-Ins
If you have ClickToFlash installed, that can prevent Flash content from loading.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info.
If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.
And check to make sure there's enough free space on the startup disk.   Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop.
Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.

  • How can I download FLV completely and only then play video on Flash?

What is a proper way to download video first and then play it in Flash? NetStream seems to allow me only to stream video - I can't find a way to download file completely first. Is there some other file for this?
It looks like I can download the file using URLLoader, then do NetStream.play(null) and then append bytes from URLLoader using NetStream.appendBytes(...), but I get: "SecurityError: Error #2123: Security sandbox violation: BitmapData.draw: file:///Users/Paulius/Build.swf cannot access unknown URL. No policy files granted access." Is there a workaround?

No, I don't think that's the issue. I have no problems downloading the video using URLLoader, which does the crossdomain check. Problem is when I do this:
    stream = new NetStream(connection);
    // ... snip ...
    video = new Video();
    video.attachNetStream(stream);
    addChild(video);
    stream.play(null);
stream.appendBytes(videoByteArray as ByteArray); // videoByteArray is taken from URLLoader downloaded content, i.e. the video
As you can see NetStream doesn't know anything about the video, it doesn't know anything about the server, so it can not take something from crossdomain.xml.
As far as I've read, it's imposible to do what I'm doing: simply Flash security won't allow to take contents of anonymous stream (i.e. stream started with play(null)).
So my question is: how do I download video first and then play (instead of streaming) it in some other way? I couldn't find such API on NetStream itself.

  • Playing videos with flash player

I can't see pictures from some of Home Depot online videos with flash player?

'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
    * On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.

  • Problems with video in Flash Projector?

We are looking for guidance on how to overcome horizontal tearing in parts of .F4v movies played out of
Flash projector for PC.  We suspect the problem crops up at the point the projector is generated out of Flash,
having experienced the same problem with .F4Vs generated by others (see Note re: David Hassoun's Adobe
    online article below).
The Problem:  .F4V movies played out of a Flash projector exhibits horizontal tears (artifacts) during
panning, zooming motions in the video.
The Project:  Interactive kiosks for Hyatt/SeaWorld employing two screens -- a touchscreen and
media/display screen.  The project stage spans the two monitors (2390 px X 768 px combined) with the
touchscreen portion occupying 1024 and display screen 1366 of the horizontal dimension.  The videos in the
media screen (an attract loop and separate movies selected via the touch panel) have been encoded with
Adobe Media Encoder as 1280x720 .F4V files.
The Workflow:   Video acquisition in HDV, captured by Final Cut Pro and converted/uprezzed to ProRes 422
for editing.  Rendered out at "Current Settings" resulting in a 1920x1080i QuickTime - ProRes codec movie.
That is encoded to .F4V in Adobe Media Encoder using the 720p preset. We then use a program called
Jugglor to position the full-screen project, stripping off borders and hiding the system bar.
Movies play normally in Adobe Media Player and in .swf files generated out of Flash.  But after creating a
Flash projector for PC, the video exhibits the glitches (horizonal tears) in pans and zooms.
The Playback PC:  The media is played out of a custom-built PC consisting of:
    - Gigabyte motherboard, Intel Chipset 58
    - 6 gigs of ram
    - i7 Intel process (quad core) @ 2.66 gb
    - NVidia GeForce 9500 GT video card w 1gb ram
    - Super Ram Disk playback
    - 1 TB SEagate 7200 RPM HD w 32 mb cache
    - 550 w Corsair power supply
Note:  We have downloaded and played some example H.264 videos accompanying David Hassoun's
"Exploring Flash Player Support for H.264 Video and AAC audio" from the Adobe website.  We noted that
the video viles played flawlessly in the QuickTime player, but when we brought them into Flash and
generated a projector file, we saw the same horizontal tearing, particularly in motion shots and in
    transitions.

I hope this is something Adobe is looking into.  There are lots of tutorials for making videos small and grainy for playback on phones and internet appliances, but very little in the way of guidance for making hi-def video look like hi-def video.
A modern PC should be able to play hi-def off the hard drive with no problems, and there are players that do this (Quicktime, WMP, Nero), but when H.264 gets walled up inside a flash player, it seems to bog down.  The machine described above will easily decode and play back DV video in WMP at 25 Mbs, but both the Flash Player and Adobe Media Player give no joy when trying to playback h.264 at much lower bandwidths.
Increasing the quality of the video compression doesn't seem to overtax the processor or the bus (since it plays well in other players), but in Flash Player, it seems to expose limits in the performance of the player.
For authoring in Flash, what is the recipe for decent Hi-def?

  • How to play videos in the itunes 11 window? Not in a separate one !

I accidentally click on the thumbnail in the progress bar while playing a video and the video poped up, now every video pops up, I want to be able to play them in the same Itunes window, Anyone knows how to?
    Thanks

Under "General" in iTunes Preferences, does "Play
Videos in.." allow you to set the playback of videos
    as you desire?
kind of. It does spawn a new window, which is great (thanks!). But it seems to be at a lower resolution - does iTunes compress further or display at lower res? What is the function that people are supposed to be able to use to use iTunes as a media center to watch movies?

  • Problem playing Audio CD (.cda files) on Windows Vista

    Hey,
I am having problems playing an Audio CD. On XP everything is working fine. On Vista, the files seem to be playing, but I am not getting any sound (playing .wav files for example is also no problem, it's just the cda files from an audio cd).
This problem does not only occur in my own code, also the JMStudio application produces no sound playing tracks from the cd.
Is there anything that needs to be configured in Vista in order to make that work?
    Thanks a lot,
    sirpreis

I should point out there's no such thing as playing a CDA file. CDA files are simply indexing information about where to find the actual track data on the disk.
My best guess is that Vista's sandbox won't let Java go and fetch the actual audio tracks from the CD, because it's more restrictive than Vistas.
Other good guesses would including that whatever native code JMF uses to fetch CD audio works in XP but it doesn't work in Vista. That would certainly make sense...
If JMStudio doesn't work, your code probably wont ever work either. Sorry :-/

  • Sound Problems Playing Video's in iTunes

When i play videos (either ripped or bought from the iTunes store) in iTunes the sound is all broken up and clipped. However they play fine on the Vieo iPod my PC is sync'd to and, critically, iTunes audio files play fine on both PC and iPod. Any ideas? Settings for sound seem fine. I've even upgraded the memory on my Vaio to 1Gbyte in case it was that but nope

Should have said if I start quicktime seperately from iTunes and play a video stream from its website the sound is fine, however, if I open an Mpeg4 iTunes video file the sound problem occurs just like when i play a video in iTunes from the store or an Mpeg4 file from the hard drive that I've bought from the store or ripped from DVD

  • Problems playing videos on quicktime

i am trying to play videos saved on a wireless external hard drive, but the video and sound plays slow and choppy. My QuickTime app is fully updated and the movies used to play great. Any ideas?

Oops! In my effort to simplify my explanation, I reversed the actual mechanism I wanted to describe. As more experienced users are aware, the dropping of frames is what occurs when the the player in not capable of processing enough data fast enough. (E.g., when playing very large display files having complicated video codecs using very high data rates on a wireles network having insufficient bandwidth.) In the case to which I was referring, the playback by the player overruns the ability of the wireless device to provide source data. If this difference is great, playback may actually freeze to allow addition data to be cached by the player. In instances where this difference is very small, the player may only stop for a fraction of a second which is long enough for your eyes to interpret the stop as a playback "jitter." While this is not the only possible problem here, it can be a common one for files having unspecified compression formats, display dimension, file data rates, and/or wireless bandwidth.
