Problems printing double-sided PDFs

Hi,
When I print any PDF document on any printer as double-sided, the second side always prints upside-down. I am printing from Adobe Acrobat 7.1.0 professional for Windows XP.
This is annoying and I need to fix this problem.
Suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks,
Bent

I've encountered a similar problem, the solution was to uncheck the "Auto rotate and centre" box. What this does is to atomatically print protrait pages in portrait and landscape pages in landscape. Whenyou uncheck the box you will need to set the paper up yourself and for any pages that are on a different orienation you will need to manually rotate or print seperatly. This cured the problem for me.

  • Can a PDF be made to by default print with "flip on short edge" set if printed double-sided?

I'm producing a 4-side, 1-sheet PDF booklet download. Our main target audience is professionals (not necessarily tech-profecient) who will download it and print it on regular office printers. Most modern office printers can print double-sided, so we expect people to print it on one sheet, fold it in the middle, and use it like that.
This gives us a problem: the default setting for double-sided printing in Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat appears to be to flip on the long edge. For a folded booklet, this results in the centre pages printing upside down. I, personally, know how to change this setting - but our audience won't, and we've found that even within our own tightly controlled office network, the options for changing this setting are in different places for different people - so giving everyone who downloads it instructions on how to change the setting will be difficult. I'm tech profecient enough to confidently poke around in the various printer settings dialogs until I find it, but most of our audience won't be, and many people will get it wrong even with basic guidance telling them what to look for.
The "Flip on long edge" default appears to be based on the assumption that printed documents are to be held and read portrait, regardless of how they are printed. Is there any way to set a PDF to instruct Adobe Reader etc that this document is to be read landscape (or, folded), so that it can know to flip on the short edge by default for this particular document?
I'm not fussy about what software I use to create or edit the PDF. I'm using InDesign at the moment but will happily use Acrobat, or even hack the code of the PDF with a text editor, if that's what makes it work. I'm asking on the Adobe Reader board since it's not so much a question of how to set this, as whether there is anything in Adobe Reader that is actually capable of interpreting and acting on such information from a PDF.
Another type of answer that could solve my problem is, is there some universal way to set "Flip on short edge" where the steps the user follows are the same regardless of whether they are using Reader or Acrobat, PC or Mac, and regardless of specific printer drivers or printer software?

When I use Windows... I can print "double-sided" without any problems..
Somehow, when I use Mac, the "double-sided" box is in grey color and i cannot chick on it...
Is there anyway to print double-sided on Mac?
I am using MacBook Pro 15 inch 2011 and the software of the printer is the latest version!
    HELP me Please

When your select print, click the button that says "Show Details" in the print window that opens.
in the dropdown menu that will have appeared in the window, click it and select "Layout". I am pretty sure that is where the two-sided setting is at.
I am not sure why that two sided button is greyed out. But the place I directed you too will let you select the 2 sided and the other setting associated with it.

  • Double sided pdf printing

Is there a way to set up a pdf for double sided printing? I know how to do double sided printing directly out of InDesign, but I want to save my document in such a way so that I can have the printing done at an outside printing company. Is there a way to do this? Or must I save each page as a PDF and then try to align it? (Print one side, turn it over and then print the other PDF on the other side.)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No. But you are asking the wrong question.
The decision to print duplex or simplex is a decision made at the time of printing the PDF, by the program and printer driver printing the PDF (and limited by the capabilities of the output device). Instruct your outside printing company to print double-sided, and they will do so, just as they will use the paper size and weight you request.
I do not believe there is a way to embed within a PDF a directive indicating that it ought to be printed double-sided, no. Certainly InDesign has no such way. Not do you need it. Communicate the information out-of-band.

  • HP Laserjet P2035n is set to print double-sided, but I can't change it in the preferences

Last week i downloaded and printed a PDF file. Since then, my HP Laserjet 2035n is set to print double-sided. Here are the details.
I'm running an HP Pavilion Laptop with Windows 7 Home.
The printer is set up as a network printer.
When I try to print something, it stops after one page waiting for me to re-feed the paper manually to print on the other side.
It's only this laptop that's messed up. My other computer prints fine
When I go to Printers, right click on the 2035n, and select "Printer Properties" and look at the bottom of the General tab, it reads under Features "Double Sided: Yes"
If I then click 'Preferences..." and go to the Finishing tab, under Document Options, the box "Print On Both Sides (Manually)" box is unchecked.
    Here's what I've tried:
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer
    I reinstalled the printer drivers
I have tried reinstalling under a different name
Any suggestions? Can someone tell me where the printer preferences file is so I can manually delete it then reinstall the printer drivers? Is there a tool for the P2035N to uninstal EVERYTHING related to it?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Please try the following settings:
Right click the printer icon, then click Printer Properties.
    Click the Device Settings tab.
At the very bottom, uncheck the Allow Manual Duplexing option.
Now try printing and check for any change.
Please let me know of any change,

  • Printing double sided odd number of pages

I have Adobe Reader 10.0.2 instalied on my iMac running Mac OS 10.6.7 with a Canon Pixma iP4200 printer. Since installing this version of Reader I have come across a curious problem with printing PDF files double sided with an odd number of pages.
For example, a three page PDF file printed double sided. The first page prints first, then pages 2 and 3 print double sided. This leaves a blank page on the reverse side of page 1 which is INCORRECT and has me puzzled. Normal double sided printing should have pages 1 and 2 back to back and page 3 with a blank page on the reverse.
All my other software on my iMac prints an odd numbered file double sided correctly. It is only Reader 10.0.2 that has this problem and would appreciate a solution.
Have I found a bug in the Reader software?.
    Regards
    Peter AKA DaftBrush

    Hello
I specially created a PDF of three pages with no page breaks or section breaks. The problem still persists no matter what way I set the printing order of the pages, that is automatic, normal or reverse when double sided printing. The same file in MS Word format prints perfectly.
My only solution at the moment is to add a blank page at the end of a PDF document that has an odd number of pages.
I would like to know if I have discovered a bug in Adobe Reader and is there a fix that I can download to solve the problem.
    Regards
    Peter

  • Printing double sided by page count

I need to print a large amount of pdf files. Within each file, contains statements for our clients. The boss has requested that these be printed front and back. The problem is that client’s statements are different page amounts some have 2 pages, other have 3,4,5,6, or even 7 pages. If I choose to print double sided and there is a client with 3 pages, the next client's first page will print on the back of my first client’s second page. If my statements are numbered 1of2, 1of3, 2of3, 3of3 etc.. Is there a script or way to have adobe print the way I am requesting?  I have Adobe Reader X on Windows 7 or Windows XP. Thanks in Advance!!

Not quite...Let me give you an example. I have 100 companies, so I have 100 files. Within each company, each employee has a statement that I need to print. When I open up the company file (File 1) there could be any number of employees. And each employee has a statement however the there are multiple statements/employees within company/file 1. So "employee "A" has a 3 page statement that has a page count 1of3, 2of3, and 3of3. ( i will eventually mail his statement to him and i want to mail him 2 pages the first page will be front and back, page 1of3 and 2of3, the second page will be page 3of3 on the front and blank on the back because there is nothing else to his statement) If I print the entire file front/back the next "employee B" first page will end up on my "employee A's" last page. I guess i want Adobe to know once its gets to a page 3of3 or 4of4 or 5of 5 (the end of a employee's statement) etc.... that it should in a sense start a new print job. I hope that makes sense..and again thanks in advance your help is greatly apprectiated.

  • Hp Color Laserjet pro M177fw won't print double sided anymore

Hello.   I have a Hp Color Laserjet pro M177fw until about three weeks ago it would print double sided no problems.  I have used this printer on my pc and now my mac with no problems previously.  I am running a Macbook Pro (less then six months old) which is running 10.10.1 (Yosemite).  I attend college and I know at the end of last quarter during finals week (Dec. 15th) I still had the ability to do 2 sided printing.  Sometime between then and the new quarter starting last monday I lost the ability to do 2 sided printing.  After scouring the internet I have tried everything they suggest:
    Uninstalling printer and reinstalling
resetting the printer setting on the mac and then reinstalling printer
resetting the printer settings on mac, rebooting and then reinstalling printer
installing older drivers( hp automatically installs newest drivers even if you use an older driver file)
resetting physical printer to factory default and reconnecting to wireless network.
    repairing the disk permissions
The only new software I have installed on the computer in the last three weeks is Adobe Creative Cloud and the printing problem preexisted that installation.

    Hi @Arboria9 ,
I see that you are experiencing issues printing two-sided from Yosemite. I would like to help you resolve this issue.
You have pretty much have done all the steps that I would have provided.
Are you still able to print two-sided from the Windows computer?
Are you missing the option to select two-sided printing in the print driver?
Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. Make sure it shows just the printer's name.
Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen it should show the printer's name. (Officejet 6500)
If the full printer name isn't listed correctly, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
How was the printer name listed?
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a great day!

  • How to print double sided from my Mac to my Canon MG6350

I have looked up everywhere on the internet and youtube of how to print double sided from my Mac Book Pro. I am using OSX 10.8.5.
All of the dicussions I have looked up before have told me to go to System Preferences>Print & Scan>Options & Supplies> Driver and then tick the little box that comes up and it will allow you to print double sided. I have tried doing this but THERE IS NO DRIVER TAB!!!
I was just wondering if there was a solution to this as I can print double sided from my other appliences, like the PC and iPad, it is just my Mac Book Pro that doesn't work.
It has become a big problem for me as I'm studying at college and I need to print things double sided quite regularly. I really need this to work.

The print dialog has several drop-down menus, one of which initially shows the name of the application you're printing from. If the printer supports duplex, you can choose
    Duplex Printing & Margin
from that menu. You should then see a checkbox marked

  • HP Officejet 7410 All-in-One no longer 'automatically' print double sided

After upgrading my PC from Windows XP 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit my HP Officejet 7410 All-in-One printer no longer prints double-sided automatically.  When sending something to print I am presented with only two options: Print One-Sided or Manually Print on Both Sides.  If I choose the latter I have to manually reload the paper when prompted.  I have tried searching for updates and downloading drivers but nothing  has resolved the problem.  I've even gone into printer properties printing shortcuts and changed the settings in "Print on Both Sides" to 'automatically' and still I am prompted to reload the paper.  It is a real pain when I have to print a very large slide pack especially when the printer decides to pick up two sheets at the same time.  I have spoken to HP and they say my printer is old and they cannot help me.  It is about 8-10 years old.  Any advice would be gratefully received.

    Hello Toosweet
In Printer Preferences make sure the duplexer is enabled. Do you have the full feature software installed?

  • Can't print double-sided on my HP printer (laserjet CP2025)

I have owned an HP laptop and printer (color laserjet CP 2025) for about one year. When I purchased the printer it said that the printer was not compatible with Windows 7 - I did not know this before i purchased the printer. I had to reset my computer recently and now do not  have the ability to print double-sided.  The printer works but I cannot print double-sided unless I manually insert the pages.  I had the ability to print double-sided before I reset the computer.  HELP! this is the most frustrating experience and I am hesitant to purchase another HP product because OF THIS BAD EXPERIENCE.  When under warranty I was able to contact HP and received information on how to get the printer to be fully functional, I can't do that now.  Does anyone know how to get this function working? Please help.

    asp29,
For the cp2025, if you have the duplex model (has d in the model name) then this document will help you re-set the printer when using the Unversial Print Driver. Make sure you read the document all the way through and pay sepecial attention to the notes as they explain the process in relation to this product. Please check it out...

  • How can I get my HP 6525 to print double-sided?

When I try to print from a Word Document, I do not get the choice to print double-sided. How can I make that happen?

Do you get an option for two-sided printing in other programs?  What is your operating system?
The driver may need to have the duplexer set as "installed", see the Vista/Win 7 Duplex Printing Troubleshooting Guide here.

  • HP 4300 All-in-one not printing double sided

    Hello
Here is my setup. I have a HP 4300 All-in-one printer set up on a network. There are two computers on this network, and XP and a vista. The printer is installed on the XP, and the vista accesses the printer via the LAN network (Wired, not wireless).
Here's the problem: When, on the vista computer, I try to manually print on both sides, the only option I get in the "Print on both sides" option in properties is "off." However, on the XP I get the option to do it manually.
Is there anything I can do to enable the "manual" option on the vista?
    Thanks.

I'm having the same problem expect with different operating systems and printers. I have a HP Deskjet D1455 that's wired to a laptop with Vista x32. I have another laptop connected to that printer wirelessly that has Windows 7 x64. On the laptop that's connected to the printer, I can print double sided with 4 different options. However, I cannot with my laptop that's connected wirelessly through printer sharing.
At first, it looks like I can do it but once I select "Manual" it disappears and turns off. Any ideas?

  • LaserJet 1015 on Win 7 (32-bit) won't print double-sided

I was always able to print double sided on XP without any problem. But after I got a new PC with Windows 7 Professional, 32-bit (with driver from win 7 itself), it would no print double-sided anymore, even though I checked the option for it in the printer option dialog box. Even the on screen reminder to instruct you to take out the papers and re-enter them for printing the other side doesn’t appear anymore. The manual double sided printing' checkbox in the driver dialog is now totally useless.  Please help.

Have the same problem with a LaserJet 1150... did manual double-sided printing fine in Windows XP, but when the computer was upgraded to Win7 64-bit, it prints single-sided every time, even when you select the options for double-sided, and the Continue button does not appear. Has anyone found a fix for this?  I've tried all sorts of configurations in the driver properties/preferences.

  • Printing double sided

    Hi,
I just got a MacBook Pro and am finding I can't print double sided. My old PC prints double sided to the same printer (an HP LaserJet 4250dtn) so that shouldn't be a problem, but there doesn't seem to be an option in my Print window to print double sided at all (it does offer to print 2 pages on 1 page, but not with one page on each side). Do I need to download something to make this possible or is it simply not? Grateful for any help.

That's exactly what I TRY to do, however, I can't get Preview to actually FOLLOW those instructions. When I select the "Paper Handling" menu in the print dialog and choose either "print Odd pages only" or even only, I still get the whole darn range printed! This sometimes works and sometimes doesn't and I don't know until the wrong pages come out and ruin the already printed other sides that I have put in the manual feed tray.
Doing a print preview onscreen before printing never helps either as that ALWAYS comes out with all pages showing, not matter what range I put in the dialog box. I don't know if this is a problem with my printer (Brother MFC-8840DN, connected by both USB and ethernet) or with Preview. I don't seem to have this problem with Acrobat Reader though.
