Problems printing from photoshop CS4 with epson R2880

I just purchased an epson stylus photo R2880, I thought it was broken due to the fact that I could
not make prints from photoshopCS4.... it goes through all the motions and when its time to print, the soft ware just stops and nothing happens, no warning window, nothing, just no print, I have been three days with epson support by telephone and we have gone through every  possible scenario. I have repaired permissions, I have repaired the disks, I have reinstalled all drivers and I can  print
from iphoto, from epson software, Lightroom and from preview but not from photoshop, I am at my wits end...I have my agent in Italy asking for three new portfolios and I cannot deliver. please help

In conjunction with Jeff's suggestion, I suggest that you remove all of Epson's preferences for your preference folder especially if you are experience some other issues with other software. And especially if you have 10.6.1 installed.

I don't know why when my partners print on this plotter, it makes some blank spaces and not is head cleaning because my partners do it and continue having trouble with it. If someone knows about it, please let me know. Oh, we are using Adobe CS6 Bundle. Thanks.

  • Print Too Small from Photoshop CS4 with HP 8500 All In One Printer

I'm running Windows XP with CS4 and latest patches and drivers.  When I print an image to my HP 8500 All in one printer, the printout is too small.  Instead of a centered 4 x 6 image on the page I get a 1 x 1-1/4 inch small print of the image in the upper left hand corner.
I re-installed CS3 and it works perfectly as do any other print options, such as word, etc.  But from Photoshop CS4 I can find no way to print to this printer without the image shrinking in size.  If I print to another printer at the same sitting, the image is fine.  So it's a PS CS4 vs. HP 8500 unique problem I guess.
I've see this post in other forms and no help as yet.  Does anyone have this one on their radar.  I really like this printer, but it's quite annoying.
By the way, If I print to a PDF from PS CS4, the pdf file image is fine.  That's another end around for printing also. HMMMM.
I did contact HP and they put the problem squarely back on Adobe.  No partnership there.
    Thanks,
    Glen

Will the printer print from any app?
I know it sounds like a dumb question, but you didn't actually say...  And I admit to looking for software problems on an occasion or two when I had forgotten to plug in cables.

  • PSD files will not print from Photoshop CS4 (previously posted in Acrobat printing and prepress)

My questions are: Does the PSD file have the printer information encoded?
Also why has this just started to show up? My wife has work successfully under the same conditions, files moved and printed on different printers, with no problems in the past.
I (we) have been struggling with a recent problem trying to print PSD files from Photoshop CS4. (Vista 32 bit, Epson 3880 networked) When trying to print certain, but not all, PSD files I get the message: "Before you can perform printer-related tasks such as page setup or printing a document, you need to install a printer." I have been in contact with Adobe support about the issue but with little in the way of positive results. I was referred to a kb link: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/409/kb409119.html Tried all that to no avail. (The first suggestion is absurd to the point of making me wonder what process is used to construct the kbs. You cannot open the print menu when you get this message so....?)
Other solutions are not acceptable for the work my wife is doing, editing high quality photographs for an exhibition with test prints and so on. We are under intense time pressue with four shows coming up in a very short time. The final solution offered is that CS5 has solved all of this. Hum? interesting. No comment except new program, new problems so not a real solution for us.
In searching the web about this problem I have come across many other people with the same problem working from different platforms and even different Adobe products. I noticed that the MAC OS seemed to cause the same problem and that there was a problem with Reader and Acrobat. In every case the problem is never solved by Adobe or anyone else and users find some "workaround". I too have found what we hope is a workaround in our contiued travels on the blogosphere, on flickr http://www.flickr.com/groups/wellington/discuss/72157621548183001/ as "...a nasty, nasty solution" but we skipped the flatten part and the GIMP part and resave the PSD under a different name.
Adobe does seem supportive but not that interested (CS4 right) but I would like to find a real solution and I think many people would benefit from it.
Anyway what I have found is that the PSD files that will not print have been printed on another printer at some time in the past. In my case the Printer was an Epson Artisan A50. The printer we are using now is the Epson Stylus Pro 3880. Even when trying to print wirelessly to the 3880 from the laptop (Was Vista, now Windows 7) that was used to edit and print with the A50, (USB connection) we saw the same error. So it seems that the printer information is somehow embedded in the PSD file (also mentioned in a Blog) and is keeping PS from seeing the printer because the same printer is not there.
Has anybody already found the fix?
I know this is a long post but I have been working on this problem and have heard all of the pat and frankly useless answers and workarounds. Can we find a solution and fix the problem?

Just a few examples, since you ask:

  • Problem Printing from Photoshop CS-5 (version 12.0) since installing Yosemite on iMac.

Any attempt to print from Photoshop CS-5 results in Photoshop crashing when I try to enter print settings such as paper profiles. I use several Macs and printers including an Epson Stylus Pro 4880 and a All-in-One Epson Workforce 7520. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop; uninstalled and reinstalled print drivers for both printers. I have the same printing problems with jpegs and raw files both large and small. I can print from the computers while using Yosemite if I print from other applications including InDesign CS-5.  I think I have tried all the suggestions that have been offered in this forum.
Fortunately I have a Macbook that I forgot to upgrade. It has OS 10.9 and CS-4 installed and once I installed the Epson drivers, it worked! So, I can meet my deadlines but still would like to work from my large desktop machines. After long sessions with a very helpful Epson technician and carefully going through the comments in this forum, I am convinced the problem is in Apple's new operating system.

Which reminds me, update 10.10.1 is out. Have you installed it?
Also sometimes this works: Resetting your Photoshop Preferences from the keyboard:
Hold down cmd-opt-shift and start Photoshop and agree to "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file"

  • Problems printing from Photoshop 4 to Canon Pro9000MarkII

    Hi All,
This has only strting happening in the last two days - before that I have had no problems with this function. I am trying to print from Photoshop 4 on a PC to my Canon Pro9000MarkII.
When I print a document and tick the Scale to Fit Media box then everything is fine and it prints no problem.
When I try to print with this box unticked so that I can print at 100% scale I press OK and nothing happens.
We have tried to download the latest printer driver and this has not helped. I have played around with the Printer Preferences and this too has not helped. I have restarted Photoshop and the PC quite a few times - nothing!!
I have obviously missed some sort of setting but I don't know what - help!!!!

I am back and still having trouble with Lightroom. Someone suggested I downgrade to LR 4.1 (from 4.4) but that didn't help. To reiterate: I have a MacBook Pro, using 10.9.5. I got a new Epson Stylus Photo R2000 printer and LR is having trouble communicating with the printer. When I try to print a letter size (or other size) picture, a 5x7 partial tile of the picture prints off center bleeding to the top. The only way I can print a whole picture is the size it 5x7; then it prints the whole picture but it is still off center, not as it appears in LR print view. I have talked with Epson who said I had Mac conflicts; I spoke with Mac who got rid of the conflicts so it can print fine from Apple programs like Pages, or the internet. It is only LR that won't print right. Obviously I got a photo printer to print photos so I would like help resolving this. It has been very frustrating that although I could talk with both Apple and Epson support, when I tried to contact Adobe both by phone and Live chat I was told that LR is not supported except on this forum. So please, help. Thanks.

  • Cannot print from Photoshop cs4

In Photoshop CS4 when I select the HP 7310 printer, PS only provides the preferences for the "HP 7310 fax".  When  I go to print a file, the printed image is reduced to around 22% of its original size. I'm using a Windows 7 HP computer with all current drivers.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Jim

This is probably a litle too late to help, but for those that are having similar problems...  Photoshop seems to get confused with printer names that are similar and always places the "Fax" printer before your standard printer.  When it prints to fax, it prints the images very small.
To resolve this problem, click "Start - Printer and Faxes" and right click on the Fax printer, selecting properties.  At the top of the dialog box, you can rename this printer.  I recommend simply adding the word "Fax" to the beginning of the name.  This changes the name enough such that Photoshop no longer messes up.
Once you have made that change, you can enjoy printing from Photoshop on your HP printer without converting to JPG!

  • New problem printing from InDesign CS4 in Lion

After having great success with Aisolve's earlier fix on printing from InDesign CS4 after upgrading to Lion, I'm having a new problems after installing the OS X 10.7.2 upgrade last week. When I try to print from  InDesign CS4 and Illustrator CS4 to my Lanier 445c/Ricoh C4500 at my workplace I get the following error message:
"Printing Error: The Adobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem."
This seems like a different issue this time, as I'm able to print to my home printers, an HP LasertJet 2600n and an HP Photosmart C4270. I thought it might be a printer driver problems, but I've gone to Lanier's site and they don't have any new printer drivers for Mac OS X 10.7.
I also some research on Adobe's site, and found this message affecting CS1, 2 & 3. I tried the only fix that seemed to apply to me, which was re-naming/deleting the InDesign Deafults and InDesign SavedData files. (I have this problems even when I'm printing a text-only file without any graphics.) This fix didn't work.
I can print to the Lanier/Ricoh from Acrobat 9, and all my non-Adobe software just fine, so my work-around to date has been exporting to PDF and printing from there. My big problem is that I need the "Print Booklet" feature in InDesign for a big job I've got coming up this week. Can't do that from Acrobat. :-(
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    mmsteer,
I think I may be able to help you with this problem, which I was having with CS4 when I first upgraded to Lion, and others were having with CS3. This fix is courtesy of Aisolve on these discussion boards:
Remove the Adobe PDF PPDs from the following folders:
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/en.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Zh_CN.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Ja.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/ko.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Zh_TW.lproj,
Be sure to go to your system Library, not your user Library.
Also, regarding my current problem, I spoke with an Apple tech person and found that the 10.7.2 upgrade apparently is the culprit, and is incompatible with wireless printing to my Lanier printer. I CAN print connected through USB. That's a work-around for now, but I'll need to contact Lanier about upgrading their driver for OS X 10.7.2.
Aisolve was helping me with this issue, too, and assures me that if I'm able to generate a postscript file (which I was), and able to generate a PDF by distlling it through Adobe Distiller (which I am), then I can safely assume that the problem lies with the hardware, in this case the printer driver. This lines up with what Apple told me.

  • Cant print from Photoshop CS4 version 11.02

I just updated my MAC OS 10.6.8 and have CS4version 11.02. I have an Epson pro stylus printer that prints from other software like MS Word and I Photo, but for some reason when I print from Photoshop it goes to the print cue and dsiapears a few seconds later. I have spoke to Epson and they think it is a preference in photoshop that did not aggree with the lastest printer firmware update. Can you help please?

    Hi caseymccjoe,
You posted this question in the Photoshop for Beginners forum. I've moved it to the Photoshop General forum so that someone there will be able to answer your question.

  • Problem printing from Photoshop CS5.1 to Canon Pixma MX870

I downloaded most recent printer driver from Canon for my MX870 and with help from canon support I deleted previous printers in my computer and added in the new one.  Also repaired permissions.
Other adobe software will print (InDesign, Acrobat) but not photoshop. When I select print,  I am getting the following message:  "There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents"   After attempting once I can't even get to the print dialogue box as the print selection is grayed out.
I am not sure what to do to get past this.
I have a new imac running OSX 10.9.2.

I was testing other Imacs running the same photoshop CS5.1 with the new printer drivers from canon and it prints.  They are running OSX10.6.8.  My new computer is running 10.9.2 and it will not print from photoshop. Is the driver not compatible with the operating system? Is there something to try other than saying the driver is at fault.  Do I complain to Canon to update their driver to work? What is a work around?
    Thanks,

  • Unable to print from Photoshop CS4 in an iMac OS 10.6.3 to large format printer Epson 11880

Hi there! I was wondering if you could help me with this case.
Old computer: Mac G4  (purchased in 2002)
    Old OS: OS 10.4.11  (Tiger)
    CPU: Dual 1.25 GHz
    Memory: 2 RAM
    Software: Photoshop 7
Hardware: Large format printer: Epson 11880 (64” wide monster). Prints large posters, banners, etc.
As you can see, it is time for an upgrade...
    New computer: iMac
New OS: OS 10.6.3  (Snow Leopard)
    Processor Name: Intel Core i7
    Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 4
    Memory: 16 GB
    Software: Photoshop CS4
Hardware: Large format printer: Epson 11880
Situation: We hooked up everything and managed to print on the 11880 printer 2 times and printed two large format prints. On the third attempt, we encountered a serious problem...
Problem: After opening a file in Photoshop and sending it out for printing in the large format Epson printer, the file goes to the printer queue and stays there for 6 seconds, and then it disappears. It does not print. :-(
What we have done so far:
We made sure we downloaded the latest printer driver for this printer from Epson’s website.
The printer driver is correct. The computer talks to the printer and we are able to execute all the commands from the printer utilities panel. (i.e. check ink levels, clean heads, etc.)
And yes, the printer is okay, because we have been using it with the old G4 machine for about a year.
This problem got so frustrating, that we thought that something we transferred during the computer installation might be the culprit. So at one point we erased the hard drive on the new computer and reinstalled the operating system, and have not put any files from any old computers into this machine. The computer has nothing else in it. Except: The operating systems, and the Mac applications that come when the Mac comes out of the box. The only other program installed in it is Photoshop CS4 and the printer driver.
We were wondering if this was just a printing problem, period. So we added a small printer to the computer - and old Epson 2200 we have. We sent a file to this printer and there is not problem.
Perhaps, the file size might have been an issue? It does not matter. We can send a large 60 MB file to the printer or a small photograph measuring only 8 x 10, and these will linger in the queue for 6 seconds, and disappear never to be printed.
Temporary relief came when we got rid of Adobe Photoshop’s Preferences file. After getting rid of the file and allowing Photoshop to reconstruct it, we managed to print two large files on the printer. Then it failed again. Tried getting rid of the preferences again, and the trick did not work anymore. :-(
Another temporary relief came when we created another user in the computer. On the new user account it printed again a couple of times only to fail later.
And yes, the printer WILL print from other Mac programs. If for instance, we open a file on Preview, and send it to the printer and the file will be printed. And yes, we have managed to print very large files with this method.
In the last couple of days, we have spent 3 hours on the phone with the guys at Epson. They verified the driver and because the computer seems to be communicating with the printer and printing from other Mac applications, they suspected that the problem is with Adobe.
We called Adobe once, and spent 30 minutes with an Indian fellow who concluded that the problem was with how the computer handles the spooling. According to him, Photoshop sends the file to the computer and the computer seems to get rid of it. So he passed the buck and told us that the problem was with Apple.
We called Apple and spoke for 30 minutes with a friendly technician, who transferred us to a higher level techno-geek. I spent 1 more hour on the phone with Apple, and we tried everything. We went through Adobe’s knowledgebase and tried every suggested solution (see Adobe’s KB406452). It was with him that we found a temporary fix of removing the Preferences file, but the solution was short lived. He finally thought the problem was with Adobe as the printer is able to print from all applications EXCEPT Adobe Photoshop.
We called Adobe for the second time...and after waiting on hold from 1 entire hour, we got an Indian technician, that bless his heart, had a very thick accent and had no expertise, in my opinion. He was good at collecting data and he even made me share my computer screen so that he could troubleshoot the problem. After being constantly put on hold by him (because he had to consult with someone else), he passed the buck and said that it was Apple’s problem. I just told him that it was not as likely because all programs print EXCEPT Photoshop. After trying what I would consider a “hail Mary” of DELETING all the printers from my Library folder, and not replacing them, he recorded a case number for another Adobe technician to call us in a few days.
Because the above technician completely blew the Library, I just erased and reinstalled the OS. This time, I did not allow the OS to be updated - from 10.6.2 (that comes in the box), to 10.6.3. We tried printing using the 10.6.2 and had the same problem. :-(
Conclusion: I think it is a problem of Adobe CS4 not getting along with Apple’s new operating system. The Epson printer is doing fine, because it has been a product that has been in the market for almost 3 years. What is disappointing is that none of the companies wants to man up and say that it is a problem and that they are willing to work on it. Instead they pass the buck to the next company.
I can’t believe I am the only person experiencing this. Has anyone had this problem, and have you found a solution or workaround for it?

Dear Doyle, John and Gator Soup,
Thank you for your kind replies to my problem.
PS is assigned 70% RAM. In fact, I have never had so much RAM in my life. Files open at lightning fast speed! :-)  We have never considered a RIP as we do not have an intense workload. In fact all the files we have tried to print print well on our old G4 with Tiger and Photoshop 7, which at the moment has saved our butt. However it would be nice to get the new faster machine with Photoshop CS4 to talk to the Epson 11880.
Yes, we are printing directly to the printer. We have hooked up the computer via a 6 ft USB cable to the unit.
The specs and pixel dimensions of a typical file we print are:
Type of file: tif  (in this case it is an RGB file) // However, we avoid any color management from the computer or the printer when printing it at this time.
    File size: 60 MB
    Pixel size: 6796 x 3100
    Print size: 34" x 16" @ 200 dpi
I have not tried saving it as a pdf yet. Will try that next.
I did go to the Console on the Mac though, and recorded its activity between 5:14 pm - 5:19 pm when I tried to print a file.
Remember, the symptoms are:  We send a file to the printer...The file goes to the printer queue, and it lingers there for 6 seconds. The file then disappears.
Although there is a cryptic message of "invalid colorspace" in the log, I don't believe that the file is corrupt. First because we have tried several files, second because smaller versions of these can be printed in another Epson 2200 printer, and third because the large format images can still be printed using our old G4 machine with Tiger and Photoshop 7.
This might provide me with extra ammunition for when I call both Adobe and Apple on Monday. Apple has been quite good on customer support - particularly when they upgrade you to higher level geeks. ;-)   Do you have any idea I what time I should call Adobe so that I can get people on the western hemisphere to answer the phone? It seems that after a certain time they start speaking with an Indian accent over there.
Enclosed, for whatever is worth, is the Console's log:

  • Printing from Photoshop CS4

I have Photshop CS4. I create a picture with a specific size in Photoshop (eample: 8.5" x 11"). I send it to the printer. In the printer box it also shows the correct print size. However when it prints it is only a small sample of the picture. An 8.5' x 11" picture from Photoshop, showing that size in the Image box and in the Photoshop print box, when sent to the printer shows at the correct size and prints it at 2-3/4" x 3-1/2". If i save the picture from Photoshop onto my desktop, then open it in Microsogt Office Picture Manager, then send it to the exact same printer, it is printed out at the correct size. I don't know why it will not print it to the correct size from Photoshop.

Printer is an HP Photosmart Premium. I believe I have the latest drivers. It
has to be something in Photoshop. When I print the same picture from any
other program it prints properly with this same printer. I just can't print
anything from Photoshop to its correct size.

  • Alignment problems printing direct to DVD with Epson R220

I know this question isn't specifically related to iDVD but I wondered if someone could help please?
I recently bought an Epson R220 printer to print direct to DVDs created with iDVD as I know labels stuck onto DVDs are best avoided.
However, using both the bundled Epson Print CD software and 'disclabel', I find the print is about 1cm off centre. I'm really surprised by this, as I thought these machines would just work out of the box - detecting through the software where the centre of the DVD is? I've tried everything to remedy this (including the position adjustment within Print CD which allows up to 5mm fine-tuning). The problem is I need more than fine tuning - the print is way off!
I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has an R200 or R220 and might have had a similar problem as I've spoken to Windows users with the same printer, who report no such hassle.
    Many thanks,
    Ant
    G5 2GHz dual, PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Thanks Hardy - really appreciate the links to the Epson site. I've tried using the manual settings as you suggest, and I've certainly witnessed a vast improvement. Basically, it seems that if I alter the position adjustment slightly and then opt for a manual print, the disc is centred no problem. It isn't quite up to the edge of the disc - there's about a 2mm gap, using one of the templates from the Print CD app. Have you noticed this also - or does the image print right up tight against the edge of the disc?
If I go back and opt to just 'Print' from the first menu that appears after selecting File>Print, (i.e. not using Manual to print) the image is consistently about 15mm off centre - I've tried this on a dozen tests. However, using 'Manual Print' this isn't the case. I wonder if there is a glitch here in the latest edition of EPSON Print CD (V1.4), in that you seem unable to specify 'Page Set Up'?
I've also gone back to the excellent disclabel application. Here I find that if I change the 90% default under page set up, to 100%, the disc is also aligned correctly.
Thanks very much Hardy for taking the time to work through this one with me - much appreciated.

  • Printing from an ipad with epson sx525wd?

I have an ipad 3 and have tried both installing iprint epson app and looking for whether airprint is supported by the epson sx525wd but no answer can I find - the epson online support pushed a document to me which was immediately nuked by a survey when she went offline and I cannot find it - something I glimpsed about using itunes somehow. I will want to print from pages.
    Thanks

    Miaartcart-
No, you can not print from the iPad via Bluetooth.
AirPrint compatible printers are listed at <iOS: AirPrint 101>.  The last time I checked, none of those listed were portable.
One option is to use a DC-to-AC inverter in your car, with one of the available AirPrint printers plugged into it.  You may be able to connect the iPad's WiFi directly to a printer set up to host an Ad Hoc network.  Otherwise you could also power a WiFi router from the inverter.
There may be non-AirPrint portable printers you can use with a printing App such as Print n Share or PrintCentral on the iPad.  These Apps can only be accessed from within other Apps that have the "Open In" option.  However they have their own text, E-Mail, browser and photo programs.  If you can use these programs, a printing App may meet your needs.

  • HT3500 Problem printing from MacBook Air with Mountain Lion to HP Photosmart Premium C310a Printer

My HP Photosmart Premium C310a printer used to work fine with my MacBook Pro printer running Lion.  I bought a new MacBook Air that comes of course with Mountain Lion.  I added a new printer from the System Preferences.  The printer will print sometimes.  Sometimes the printer just restarts itself and then will print.  I used to have an excellent HP Scan Utitlity.  That is now gone and it is really hard to scan anything.  I am beginning to think it is time to get rid of the HP Printer and buy another one that fully supports Mountain Lion.  Can anyone help me here?

Hi - if you haven't done this already, HP support lists several download options including software for OS X for your printer - I would try that route since what comes with Mountain Lion doesn't seem to work - let me know how you make out
