Problems printing in wlan network

hi
i have a strange problem. running a wireless network in my office, with an old lexmark optra S 1855 hooked up as the printer. we're all using macs, all running osx leopard or panther. i am the only one that can print either using the wireless network or ethernet. the others can't print using the wireless network, they have to use ethernet cables to print.
any ideas??

Can you please describe your network a little more. Example - do you have a router and then added a second one (like an Airport Base/Express) for wireless?

i gave my parents a macboook pro and wireless router, and i also gave them my old g4 tower. i set the g4 up to print via usb connection to the hp 2410 all-in-one printer....no problems there. the g4 is also connected to the network via ethernet (cable modem).
then i set up the router so the MBP could connect to the internet...no problems there. wireless router connected to the cavle modem.
then i tried to print wirelessly from the MBP to the printer....no luck. printer sharing is on and drivers are installed, but the MBP isnt recognizing a printer on the network. any help??

    "drivers are installed"
Did you check the printer's manufacturer site to confirm the drivers are updated? Besides my printer's own drivers I also use Gimp drivers which can be found HERE.
Did you repair permissions & then restar your comoputer?
On all your computers using the printer, check System Preferences>Sharing>Services
Make sure +Printer Sharing+ is ON.
Your system info confirms you are only using OS 10.6. Update your OS & check Software Update to install all the other updates that goes along w/it.

  • Problem Printing to a Networked Windows 7 Printer Since Upgrading to 10.6.2

I have my macbook pro networked to a PC (running windows 7) and have had no problems sharing files and printing from the Mac to the PC connected printer (Epson CX 8400) until I updated Snow Leopard to 10.6.2. I can still connect to the network and share files, but a can no longer print. When I print from the Mac, the job stalls. The printer utility gives the following message "on hold (authentication required)". I do not have a password set up on the PC or the printer. I have no problem printing from a XP laptop connected to the network. I have updated the printer driver ,deleted and re-installed the printer. If I connect the printer directly to the Mac, it prints OK. Any suggestions?

An updated driver was posted to the Apple Software Update on 12/15. Run the Software Update and it should automatically update your driver.
    Hope this helps,

  • Problems printing over the network?

    Hello All,
I recently purchased a new MAC and I am trying to get my printer configured. I have a Canon IP6600D printer connected to a Linksys Wireless G Print Server. I downloaded the appropriate software from Canon to install my printer, which works when I have it connected via USB. However, when I try to install the printer as a network printer the MAC does not recognize the printer as a valid device. I try to add the printer as a Generic PostScript Printer; however, it still doesn't print at all.
I've tried enabling AppleTalk on the wireless print server, but still I get nothing. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated, thank you very much!!!

    Hello Phil,
The Canon driver cannot be used this way. It is designed for USB connection only. To get the iP6600D working for your environment, you need a product like Printfab. Check out their web site (www.printfab.net)

  • Problems printing to a networked Gestetner Dsc460

My office uses a Gestetner Dsc460 multifunction printer for their big jobs. I've installed the drivers using Ghostscript/Foomatic-RIP/pxlmono and can get things to print correctly to the printer. The problem I'm having is that the office has the User Code function turned on to track how many copies each department makes. If I disable that function I print perfectly. But when it is on, even when I enter my user code in the Printer Features part of the Print dialog box, nothing comes out. The job just disappears into the ether. Suggestions?

You will need to use the pxlmono drivers found at http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/pxlmon o. Be sure to install all three packages - pxlmono, Foomatic-RIP, and Ghostscript. Once you have created a print queue using the pxlmono driver, then run a script I have available that will let you easily set your personal User Code. This script is available from http://webpages.charter.net/mbroughtn/beta/RicohUserCodes.zip.
The PPDs in the pxlmono package are supplied by Ricoh, so they contain all the printer options.

  • Trouble Printing from a network printer

I recently purchased a MacBook and I am having problems printing using the network printer. It's a HP Color LaserJet CM1017 (or 1015) and my MacBook connects to the printer yet never prints. In the queue it says "On hold authentication required"
    Please help!

You didn't mention if you're trying to share the printer or not.
Using a popular search engine, the general advice is to delete the printer and add it back in.

  • E61i "No WLAN Network Found"

OK, so I bought this E61i at the beginning of November and for the first month it was great. I was amazed at how easy it was to connect to home WLAN and any other open WLAN for that matter.
Then for no reason one day it says "No WLAN network found". I've made no changes to my home network and I know its working because both my laptop and desktop operate on WLAN.
I tried using the connection wizard several times to set up a connection but got the same results "No WLAN network found".
So then I called Nokia support. They asked what version of firmware I had. According to the person on the phone I was up to date but he had me download and install it again. This did not fix the problem still "No WLAN network found".
So I called back and explained the situation and I was told that there must be something wrong with my phone and that I should send it in for warranty repair. So I send the phone to the Nokia repair place somewhere is Alabama.
After about two weeks I get the phone back with a repair slip saying that the phone has been repaired by updating the firmware (which by the way I had already done). Of course when I tested the phone I get the same results "No WLAN Network Found".
So I called Nokia Support (which at this point is a contradiction in terms as they were of very little help) and was told to return the phone to Nokia warranty repair so that it could be brought to the Quality Assurance Managers attention.
I have to say that this is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. I mean I have to send the thing at my expense (not cheap by the way) and now I have to send it back again.
What could be causing the phone to not detect any WLAN? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Up to this point nobody has been able to help. I've decided to send it back to Nokia and give them another shot at fixing the phone. I really have no other choice.
I bought the phone at TigerDirect.com and they have an agreement with Nokia that they don't do exchanges. They will only send the phone off for repair within the first 30 days. After that, I'm on my own. Since the phone didn't start acting up until after the 30 day mark I'm out of luck there.
I'm really not happy about sending the phone back to Nokia again as they didn't fix it the first time. So, My confidence level in them is much less than ideal.
I just have this sinking feeling that I may be doing something wrong with the phone (setting-wise) that started this whole mess in the first place, and that it's something simple. I just don't know what it is and noone has been able to help. Not even Nokia support. It's frustrating! I can't help but think that I might have been better off with my second choice the HTC Touch.

  • Problem printing to networked printer

I have a strange printing problem:
    13" unibody MacBook running OS X 10.6.3
Dell dimension desktop PC running Win XP Home Edition (SP3)
Wireless LAN connecting the two computers above via Time Capsule wireless base station.
Canon Pixma MP540 printer connected to PC via USB.
Printer set up on PC as shared and visible to MacBook over wireless LAN.
Printing from PC to printer OK.
Printing from MacBook to printer places job in print queue on PC but status never changes from 'spooling' and print job never completes.
If I connect the printer directly to the MacBook via USB it prints with no problems. I can also then see the printer as a network printer from the PC and successfully print to it from there.
Can anyone suggest why the job never completes when the printer is attached to the PC?
    Thanks, Ian

  • LaserJet M1120n MFP - Problems with printing over Wireless Network.

Hi. I have recently purchased a HP M1120n MFP printer.  There are three wireless laptops (Vista, & XP Pro) that use this printer via a DrayTek Vigor 27000GE wireless router, then via cat 5 cable to Ethernet on printer.
All three laptops can print, but sometimes the print queue backs ups.  The top print job will say "Printing" but it can say this for hours!  Then if I delete the print job, it will say "Deleting" - but nothing happens.  The only way to clear it is to reboot the laptop.
    Firmware datecode is 20080228.
If I connect via USB cable directly to the printer it works correctly.
Any ideas to help resolve this frustrating problem?

The bottomline is that this printer has no way of connecting other than a straight USB connection.   In order to make it wireless you have to have a device that will give it an network IP address.  The printer by itself can not do this.
The only way to get this printer on a network is to buy a SEPERATE USB Printer Server.   Or, buy a separate router, like I said, that has a USB connection on the back that will support printers.
You can not connect it the way you want as it stands right now.
However, call your ISP and have them set it up IF their Gateway device has a USB connection and really can support a printer.  It is their issue.

  • Problem with printing over wireless network

    Hello. I have a HP psc 2410 all-in-one printer.
I've recently bought a modem router which has a capability called"printer-server" and I decided to use this feature and print over wifi. I set it up but with a problem. when I print something, for instance, test page, instead of printing just one page, It will print "test page" in 3 pages( something like partial pages and which the last=third page is printed blankly) and then It freezes(printer screen shows "printing" and I have to cancel the job, otherwise it freezes and I have to replug it). I have this trouble not just in test page but at least from IE, office, PDF files. This problem is essentially about Wifi, since If I connect the printer directly to the PC or laptop via usb, it works absolutely fine. also I have tried printing with different laptops over wifi but no go. below are more information which I have to mention:
1)Router is on WPA-PSK encryption type.
2)There is no mac-filtering or hiding SSID going on.
3)one laptop and an iPad is connected to router via wifi and a PC which is connected by LAN cable.
4)The printer IP address is the same as Router's settings page IP address.(192.168.0.1)
5)I can't open the printer's internal web page by entering the printer's IP address in browser since it's the same as router IP address.
6)Firewall on my laptop( windows 7  32-bit) is off and I'm using no Anti-virus.
    7) I have tried HP PRINT AND SCAN DOCTOR, but it says the printer is OK.
    thanks
    Leland
EDIT: after investigating for hours, I finally managed to get rid of freezing problem. now there is just one problem of that partial printing which happens coincidentally over wifi! I mean, sometimes it happens and sometimes not!
any suggestions? I'd really appreciate it

  • Problem printing to printer attached to a pc over home network

I have a home network with two computers, a Dell running Win XP and a new iMac running Leopard. I have Fusion installed on the Mac running a virtual PC on WinXP as well, so I effectively have 3 computers. I had an old HP printer attached to the Dell that both the Mac and its virtual PC could see and print to fine over my network. I had to replace the printer and now have a Canon MX700 attached (by USB) to the Dell, and am having trouble with remote printing. I was able to "add" the new printer to both the Mac and its virtual pc, but only the virtual pc is able to print successfully. When I try printing from the Mac applications, using the driver for the MX700 printer found during the add printer setup, I get an error message. I then tried a new setup with a generic (Gutenprint) driver, and the printer was spitting out blank pages. Then I downloaded another driver from Canon's website for OS X 10.5, and it still didn't work. (I am not sure if I was supposed to uninstall the previous drivers first, and if so,I don't know how to do that since I am still new to the Mac environment. I just am assuming that the new drivers take over for the former one.) I assume that the problem is a driver problem and not a network problem since the virtual pc on the Mac works fine and my old HP worked fine with the same network setup. Any help?

Thank you again for sticking with me on this. Frankly, I was very surprised when the Canon did not work even when I carried it downstairs and attached it directly to the Mac by USB. I used the installation disk, which said it installed successfully (after several tries where it kept getting hung up after installing the drivers, and showing 0% completed, requiring me to use force quit to get the setup to stop each time). But as I explained in my prior post, the Mac never found the printer even after the supposed "successful" install.
This is typical when there are too many different versions of the driver residing on the Mac. I will explain my procedure to remove all the Canon stuff at the bottom of this post.
I then downloaded the Mac OS driver from the support page for my printer on Canon's website and ran that driver, but still no recognition. But I am willing to keep trying. I had looked at the PrintFab driver too (which I learned about from one of your other posts), but they are expensive and I probably could buy another printer for the cost of that driver. So I don't think that is an option.
Agree with you re the PrintFab. That is why I think the direct network connection would be best.
You suggest that I try another Gutenprint driver from the Canon list, which I guess I can randomly do, but I noticed that a number of the models listed show the driver as 5.2.3 (the same numbers as the generic one I tried)--does this meand they are all the same? Can I just keep downloading and installing more drivers without removing any?
It is not another version I need you to try. Using the same version, I suggest you try some of the other models that are included with the Gutenprint driver. Ideally, it would be good to know which model of the included Gutenprint drivers uses the same ink tank setup as your MX700. For example, if the MX700 uses BCI8 Blk and a BCI5 Blk and the three 8 series colour (Cyan, Magenta and Yellow), then selecting a model that uses the same setup might work for you. If you check a Canon web site, it would tell you what tanks are used by a certain model that is available within the Canon list.
I am willing to consider the network install of the printer, and that would be a good way to go, but I find Canon's instruction for network installations that came with the printer (which does not appear to consider mixing Macs and Pcs since there are separate instructions for both) a bit confusing. The basic installation of the printer on the network seems easy enough to follow. It is the further instruction for doing something to the "card" for each computer that will be using the printer on the network that I find confusing. I don't know what they are talking about. I certainly don't want to mess up my network connections. Do you know of any better instructions for setting this all up?
The setup is easier than the manual suggests. With the printer connected via USB, you open the Utilities application and select the Network tab. However this does require that you can get the printer to work when connected via USB, so we have to achieve that first.
Again, thank you very much for all your help. (Incidentally, I also discovered I can't use the fax feature of the printer because we have a two-line phone line and when I plug the phone cord into the printer and then out to the phone it eliminates the second line, no ringtone. There is no setting for this on the printer that I can find. But I can live without the fax, just another source of annoyance with this printer).
That would suggest that there is a link from the first phone to the second. Unplugging the phone cable to connect to the fax has broken that loop. You could easily get the phones rewired to suit the fax, but again it costs money so it might not be worth it.
Here is my procedure for repairing faulty installations of the Canon PIXMA drivers.
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax. Highlight the Canon printer in the Printer list and click the minus ( - ) button. [You may not have to do this step]
    2. Hold Control key and click in the empty Printers list. Click on Reset Printing System.
    3. Close Print & Fax
    4. Go to Library > Printers > Canon and delete the contents of the BJPrinter folder.
    5. Go to Library > Receipts and delete the Canon driver package file, if one exists. The file name will show Canon MX700 xxx.pkg
    6. Go to Library > Preferences and delete the Canon folder.
    7. Go to HD > Users > Shared > Canon and delete the BJPrinter folder.
    8. Empty the Trash
    9. Unplug the Canon USB cable and restart the Mac
    10. Install the latest version of the Canon driver. Looking at the Canon AU web site it is v6.9.3
    11. Once the driver installation is complete, go to Applications > Utilities and open Disk Utility. Run the Repair Disk Permissions option.
    12. Reconnect the Canon USB cable. Then open Print & Fax and see if the Canon printer is listed. If it is, try a test print.
    13. If the printer is not listed, click the plus ( + ) button.
    14. Select the Default view and select the Canon printer connected via the USB port. The Print Using menu should automatically change to Canon IJ Printer.
    15. Click Add to add the printer.

  • E71 - No WLAN Network Found Problem

    Hi,
I have been using my Nokia E71 from 3 network for 3 months without any problem, my phone connects to Wireless network at my home and browse in internet will full speed.
I have been installing some software, after which problem started, my phone search for wireless network and says "No WLAN Network found".
I tired soft reset, hard reset and even I resintalled phone software through Nokia software update but still this problem not resolved.
If anyone faced this same problem and found solution, can you please share the procedure to fix this WLAN network problem in this topic.
    Thanks,
    Maha

I too get a similar problem.
It was OK up until recently, at home. But for some strange reason - when I connect to the internet via my access point, it sometimes doesn't find it, or says no WLAN found, even though the router is in the room directly upstairs.
However the iPod Touch I have also gets a similar problem, and a weak signal in some places, the router was on top of my Aluminum Desktop PC so I thought it could be that, having moved it, it made no difference.
I have a NETGEAR DGN2000 wireless draft-N modem/router. I think it could be the "Draft-N" that could be causing the problem. Although I have not fully ruled out the handset, and it could be the latest firmware. For me I have not bottomed this out, either to the phone or router, but am inclined to think its more the router.
If yours is a draft-N router it might be worth switching it to 802.11b/g mode only and try that. I shall try when my new E72 arrives next week

  • Printer sharing problem: printer not found by other Macs over network

We have 2 iMacs and 1 PowerBook, all connected to network through a Belkin router. One of the iMacs has an Epson Stylus hardwired (USB) to it. Printer sharing is ON. In the past, the other two Macs found the printer over the network and printed fine. Recently, they can no longer find the Epson over the network, indeed, when we try to "add printer" in their Printer Utilities, they no longer find any printer at all. Why did it use to work and then stop for no apparent reason, no changes were made (except for occasional need to restart the router if we lost our connection)? What are we missing?

As you suggested, I repaired permissions in all my Macs. That helped; the other Macs could find the shared printer. Then later on I needed to shut off both the host iMac and the printer. When I turned them back on, once again the other 2 Macs couldn't find the printer?! Since I had just repaired permissions earlier in the day I didn't think it could be that again. Then, I printed one page from the hardwired host iMac, and voila!, right after that page printed the other two Macs could spot the shared printer over the network again. I'm glad they came back online, but wish I knew what the heck was going on?! Why would printing one page from the host bring the others back, and did the earlier repair of permissions really have anything to do with it??

  • MacBook Air no longer finds my canon printer by WLAN

I have MacBook Air loaded with OS-X Yosemite software. Up until yesterday I was happily printing over wireless LAN in the house to my Canon MG6350 printer. Then it stopped. The print dialogue says Printer is Offline but I can see it is online as it always used to be. I have tried resetting printer, deleting and reloading print drivers, resetting the WLAN device, reconnecting the printer to the wireless LAN and reconnecting the MacBook to the wireless LAN. Nothing will resolve the problem.

    Hello there, AdrianGalilee.
Great job so far with troubleshooting your issue with printing to your Canon printer. The following Knowledge Base article offers up some additional steps for troubleshooting print issues:
Troubleshooting printer issues in OS X - Apple Support
USB printers and Bonjour-enabled network printers
Follow these steps until the issue is addressed:
Make sure that the printer is powered on, has ink / toner, and that there are no alerts on the printer’s control panel. Note: If you cannot clear an alert on the printer's control panel, stop here and check the printer's documentation or contact the manufacturer for support.
Ensure the printer is properly connected to a USB port on the Mac or AirPort base station / Time Capsule. If the printer is a network-capable printer, make sure that it is properly connected to your home network.
Use Software Update to find and install the latest available updates. If an update is installed, see if the issue persists.
Open the Print & Scan pane or Print & Fax (Snow Leopard) pane in System Preferences.
Delete the affected printer, then add the printer again.
If the issue persists, try these additional steps:
Reset the printing system, then add the printer again.
If the issue still persists, reset the printing system again.  Download and install your printer's drivers. Then, add the printer again.
Contact the printer vendor or visit their website for further assistance.
     Learn more
Note: If your printer is wireless-capable, you should first add the printer to your network. Use the printer's control panel, or temporarily connect the printer to your Mac via USB.  For more details, see this article.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.
