Problems printing to Acrobat

Hi there,
I used to be able to print from InDesign CS4 to Acrobat PDF, but I'm not longer able to do this (I think since installing Leopard Snow). In any case, I can export to PDF, but then the colours are converted to RGB, which, obviously is no good for printing.
Is there something I'm missing? Is there a way I can add acrobat pdf to my printers so I can print there directly and have high quality pdf documents?
I appreciate any help!
Thanks,
N.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for your reply and sorry for being so vague.
Well, this is my issues.
I don't seem to be able to print to Adobe Acrobat. Before I upgraded to Snow Leopard I could do: Command + P and it would open the print window. Now, among my printers, the Acrobat PDF printer was in there, but now, since I have installed Snow Leopard, it's not there anymore.
I am able to export my inDesign files through Command + E, but when I do so, I'm not able to change the settings for CMYK, so if I need to print my PDF, it only keeps the RGB values. You mentioned I can change that, but I have looked everywhere and can't find it.
I'm running CS4 and I just don't know how to get my Acrobat PDF printer back, that was what I was using. If there's a way of doing it with the export, I'm more than happy to do that. Like I said, I just don't seem to find where to change the values so that my PDF stays with CMYK and not RGB.
I don't know if that explains better my problem. If not, please let me know so I can get this issue resolved.
Thanks,
N.

  • Solution to the problem printing from Acrobat 9.4.2

Since there are nearly 200 posts in the original thread, It might be best (for those looking for a quick solution) to do this in a new thread.
The problem is that you cannot print to a network printer from Acrobat (pro) 9.4.2.  Printing to a local (USB) printer seems okay.
The solution (for us) was found at http://www.hypersensory.com/content/fix-printing-after-installing-adobe-acrobat-942-update
    The approach I tested was:
    [T]he fast and easy way:
1.) go to the installation directory of Acrobat (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat)
2.) Look for the file "Adobe.Acrobat.Dependencies.manifest"
3.) Open it and delete the line <file name="atl.dll" />
4.) Reboot your machine after saving that file
This should fix the issue of being unable to print PDF file after installing 9.4.2 update for Adobe Acrobat.
With thanks to the folks at HyperSensory.com!  It works!

Could someone from Adobe respond to this specific issue so that we know we are being heard?  Will the fix for the print issue also resolve the 'attach to email' problem?  Is there any work around other than telling users to attach directly from their email programs?
Thanks in advance for your response to our concerns.

  • Problem printing fra Acrobat 8 and Indesign CS3

    Hi Forum
My setup is a Powermac G5 with 10.5.8 and a Epson 1400 and a Epson c8500. I have checked, that I'm using the latest drivers from Epson.
My problem is then I print A4 PDF documents to these two printers, the prints will be cropped, it actually seem like the top and bottom margins of the printable area are wrong. Scaling is set to none and I have also tried printing as an image.
I have tried using Acrobat 8, Adobe Reader 9 and Indesign CS3, also behave the same.
If I use Preview, my prints will look just fine.
I tried the same from a Macbook pro with 10.5.8 and Acrobat 8 and 9, and from this computer things work correctly.
So it's seems to be a problem with an Adobe related file or setting.
    anybody seen this before?
    kind regards
    Lars

Our office is printing fine from ID & PS CS3. This is from Intel & PPC Mac's running 10.4.9.
What is your printer and how is it configured for printing, ie USB or IP.
Also, have a look at the cups error log. You can find this via System Profiler > Software > Logs. This will show which process is failing for the spooled job. You can post it back here for more help.

  • Problems Printing from Acrobat 8.1.2 on Windows 64

We are running Acrobat 8.1.2 on Windows 64 bit. The Microsoft Windows fix that Adobe recommends has been installed. The Adobe PDF print device works fine when used from Catia V5 and MS Office products, but nothing else. When used on other programs, such as AutoCAD or Internet Explorer, the Adobe PDF print device seems to crash. Has anyone else seen this or know of a fix?

Thank you for the advice, John. It looks like there has been a lot of discussion on this subject.
I believe 8.1 was the first Acrobat version to support 64 bit. We were not able to print anything to the Adobe PDF printer after we first upgraded to 64 bit, but it started working fine from some programs when we installed the Windows Hot Fix. It still crashes on some programs, especially AutoCAD and IE.
Does anyone know if Acrobat 9 works better than 8.1.2 on Windows XP 64 bit?
    Thank you.

  • Problems printing lines Acrobat 9 pro

I am trying to print some government forms that are generated by an Access 97 program ( I know old and I should get user off) But when we generated the forms in Acrobat 8 std all worked well.  Moved to Acrobat 9 pro and now lines are being dropped.  Form is NAFTA Certidicate of Origin and complex.

How are you creating the pdfs? If you are indeed printing to pdf, what joboptions file are you using now? What were you using before?

  • Problem printing to Acrobat 5.0 Distiller from CS3

I am unable to print to Distiller all of the sudden from my Illustrator CS3.  When I hit print is says that it is unable to print to disitiller and there is an error and to click to troubleshoot.  I did that and it was not helpful.  I also tried to print to distiller from Word and same issue.
I can open all of the Adobe products so not sure why it won't print to them?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please repost in the Acrobat forum. Please give OS information and the exact version number of Acrobat 5. In the meantime you can try to delete the printer instance, then repair the installation of Acrobat by using the menu item under the Help menu.

  • Problems printing PDF's using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro

During the last two weeks, I have been unable to print a PDF from my Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro. They appear okay on the screen, but print as gibberish.
After consulting the forums, one workaround suggested was to print as image. Tried it, also prints gibberish.
Another suggestion to update my printer software, did it. Still prints as gibberish. My priner is an Epston Stylus Photo R220.
I'm a writer, not a software technician. I am not using a bootleg copy of the program, but an educational version, so Adobe won't offer me any advice over the phone without payment.
Anything else I could try before paying?

I have same problem as described above, but not always.  Seems to depend on the web page I am trying to print to Adobe. One consistent culprit is Bank of America.  Looks okay until I print to Adobe Acrobat 9 or 10. Then it's gibberish.  i had to copy to Word and then print Word to Acrobat or printer.
    . Various computers,
. same problem with either Acrobat 9 or 10.
. Not a problem printing to Acrobat from a Word or Excel or Outlook document
. Only from certain websites and not the entire page, only the OCR part. The objects: logos, pictures are okay, only text is messed up.
Definitely would like Adobe to fix this.

  • Printing Problems wtih Adobe Acrobat X Pro

I am having problems printing Adobe Acrobat X Pro forms.  When I try to print, information entered into text fields will not print.

Since it just appeared to happen with the latest update of Acrobat 10.1.2, can you check to see if it's related to any of these known issues?

  • Printing freezes Acrobat Reader various versions

I have one (luckily, just one) client who has a problem printing from Acrobat Reader. So far, this problem has been with v6.x, v7.x, and v9.x (uninstalled 6.x, installed and uninstalled 7.x, and then installed 9.x, trying to solve this issue, with no changes).
For the longest time, there was NO problem printing PDF files. Then, she couldn't print at all, it would bring up an error message. I read where setting/changing the default printer would solve this, and it did -- to a point.
Now, when she tries to print (FILE | PRINT -- read below as to why this is necessary), it will print, but the printer dialog box takes a LONG time to come up (3-5 minutes) and then the drop down menu to select a printer takes a long time to come up, as well.
She travels between various offices, which is why she must use FILE | PRINT -- she needs to choose the printer(s) that are available to her when she logs into the network. There are HP, Cannon, Lexmark, and other printers at these various locations.
The problem *only* happens in Acrobat Reader. All of the other applications print fine.
Today, I discovered something interesting by accident. If she is *disconnected* from a network, and starts a print job (again, FILE | PRINT), the printer dialog box opens almost immediately, as does the printer selection drop-down menu. She can then reconnect to the network, after selecting a printer, and then press OK (to print), at which time it does print just fine.
    So, in a nutshell:
    (1) It *only* happens when trying to print something from Acrobat Reader regardless of version.
    (2) It is *only* slow to bring up the printer dialog box, and printer selection drop-down menu when connected to a network.
    (3) It *will* eventually (say 3-5 minutes later) bring up the printer dialog box, and printer selection drop-down menu, and print, when connected to a network.
    (4) She is using Windows XP (I didnt check on the service pack version, it is, for certain SP2 at least, although she may have allowed Windows Updates to upgrade it to SP3). Multiple printers are being used, from various vendors (HP, Lexmark, Canon, others) so it is extremely unlikely that it is a printer driver issue.
    (5) There are others with identical laptops, Windows XP, and using the same printers and Acrobat Reader who also travel to the same offices and work in the same fashion as she, and they do not have this issue.
So, anyone out there smarter than me, any suggestions about how to resolve this?

Hi, I found this to work
    open cmd
type the following and press enter after each command:
    c:
    cd\
    del arc*.tmp /S
What the command does is that it deletes acrobat temp files that are stored on your pc, which slows down acrobat printing.
I found this info at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403914.html towards the bottom of the page
    Hope it helps

  • Problems re-installing Acrobat Pro 9

I was having problems printing from Acrobat Pro 9 after upgrading to Apple OS Mountain Lion. I was advised to re-install Acrobat. I un-installed it first then tried to re-insall it from the original CS4 disc. It just hung at 'installing' and never got further. So I gave up eventually and copied the application from my laptop. That seemed to work but then it asked for the serial number when I launched it. So I entered the serial number on the back of the disc case but it didn't accept it. What do I do now? I need Acrobat Pro back some how.
    Thank you.

Just to clarify - the install disc gets stuck on 'preparing to install'.

    Hi garryw,
What version of Reader are you using, and are you on Mac OS or Windows? Do you get the same error when you try to print other PDF files, or is the problem specific to one PDF?
For starters, please try the solutions listed in this thread: Re: There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat /Reader. If it is running ,please exit and try again.(0:104)

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro XI problems printing PDFs created from AutoCAD.

Just installed Adobe Acrobat Pro XI and am having problems printing PDFs created from AutoCAD.  Printing other PDF created by MS Word works well.  Had a similar problem in an earlier version of Pro.  The fix I figure out then was to print the PDF file as another PDF.  Using the second PDF to print to a plotter typically worked.  It does not work for Adoabe Acrobat Pro XI.

  • Problems printing Acrobat documents on shared printer

I have a MacBook Pro and a Mac Pro. I also have an Epson 1400 printer.
When I print any Acrobat document using the printer hooked up directly to my MacBook, it prints perfectly.
When I print the same Acrobat document using the printer hooked up directly to the Mac Pro, it prints perfectly.
However, when I hook the printer to the Mac Pro and enable printer sharing, and then print the same document from the MacBook Pro using the shared printer via the network, the Acrobat document is reduced in size by around 50%. I have checked every possible setting and just can't find why this is happening.
Thanks in advance for any help!

The problem occurs not only through Acrobat. The prints have the correct size through the Mac only when the printer is directly connected via USB on the Macs but reduced size through the network. The problem occurs in any printer model on the network.
I do not know how to solve this problem but curiously does not occur with Windows computers with Bonjour that prints to the printers connected to Macs.
    When Apple will fix this?

    Hi All,
Was this every resolved and if so how was it done?
I am having the exact same problem. I know it is a problem within the user account. I have removed all preference files, application support files, removed and added printers. There are no plugins. Other user accounts can print from Adobe Reader fine. I have already migrated my user data only to another user account. Issue was resolved for a month or two but came back again. I know creating a new user account ultimately does not resolve this issue. Please help?
