Problems printing to HP Color LaserJet 2605dn

First, the technical details. The 2605dn is running firmware datecode 20061114. My Macs are running 10.4.10, and the computers and the printer are all connected to a Linksys BEFSR41 router. I also have a Windows XP laptop that is connected to the router.
I'm extremely frustrated because both my Mac computers and my Windows computer keep losing their connection to the 2605DN printer.
I installed the HP software on both Mac and Windows computers, and everything was fine for a while, then for no apparent reason all my computers began to have problems locating and printing to the 2605dn. Sometimes, when I open the OS X Printer Setup Utility and look for the printer, Bonjour locates it. If this happens, I will be able to install the printer, activate the duplex option, etc. When I click on the "Utility" button, I get sent to the printer's web server as expected. For the balance of the session, everything will work fine. The next time I wake up my computer, it may or may not print anything I send to the 2605dn. Sometimes it will work for a few days, sometimes the connection is gone the next time I try to print.
When I lose the connection, I can't get it reestablished using any predictable set of instructions, sometimes the installation steps work, sometimes they don't. Resetting and powering on and off computers, router, printer, etc. doesn't reliably make any difference, but sometimes after a reset the installation will work. Doing the same things from the Windows XP computer produces roughly the same results. If I can locate the printer it will work fine for the session, then it's back to square one the next time I start up the computer.
This is all very puzzling, and very annoying. I can't find any information in HP troubleshooting and the HP support forums are no use at all. I've got the latest software on my computers, and when the printer works, it works beautifully. Unfortunately, I have no reliable way to access the printer and my family is very frustrated.
If anyone out there has figured out how to make their 2605dn play nicely with their Macs and home network, I would welcome any assistance you can offer.
Thanks,
Ross

Hi Pahu,
Thanks for you reply. Here's some additional information because I'm not quite sure how to resolve the network addressing as you described. The router is set up as a DHCP server, using the standard 192.168.1.1 IP address, and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 The starting IP address is 192.168.1.100, and I have it set to allow up to 50 connections. (No particular reason, I think that may have been the default.) The printer is set up to check a variety of connection protocols, starting with DHCP. If that fails, it moves to BOOTP, etc. When I print the network configuraton page from the printer, it tells me the IP address is 169.254.18.32, subnet mask 255.255.0.0, default gateway 169.254.18.32, and the IP is configured by AUTOIP.
In the past, when it has been working properly, the printer shows an IP address of 192.168.1.10X, usually .100 or .101, but it depends on which device I've powered up first. This is what I would expect, given that the printer should be communicating with the router and be assigned an IP address by DHCP. What I can't figure out is why the printer reverts to its internal default IP address 169.254.18.32, and why this is inaccessible even if I try to designate the printer as an IP printer and type in the printer's IP address.
Do I need to set the printer to refresh its DHCP lease more often to ensure it doesn't get cut off by the router? How do I make sure the printer stays on the same subnet as the computers if they're all on the same router? Should I assign the printer a static IP address like 192.168.1.100, then set the DHCP range to start at 192.168.1.101? Sorry to ask so many questions, I'm not a network expert and I didn't think this printer would be such a pain to configure.
Cheers,
R

  • Unable to print with HP Color LaserJet 2605dn since Upgrading to Mavericks

Since upgrading to Mavericks, I've had nothing but problems printing to my HP Color Laserjet 2605dn.
I'm having this problem on both my iMac and my MacBook Pro.
    I get errors like:
"unable to write pirnt data broken pipe"
"unable to send data to printer"
    "printer not connected"
I've been reading responses to others with similiar issues and I've tried
    deleting and re-adding my printer.
    reseting my printing system
    Installing Guenprint.
re-adding my pirnter with a generic PCL driver.
None seem to correct the problem.
This problem happens both when connected directoy with USB and when connected through the network.
I have no problem printing with my work (Wondows) laptop.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks, a brody.
Yesterday (before I read your response), I downloaded the latest firmware (20140413.) (What do they say about great minds?)
I thought the issue may have been resolved.
I was finally able to print my bank statement on both the iMac and MacBook.
Today, I'm back to the the same issues.
Very frustrating, even though I've had the printer for five years, I've printed less than 20,000 pages.
In my mind, it's pointing more and more towards a hardware issue.

  • Can't install printer driver: HP Color LaserJet 2605dn drivers "not currently available from the Software Update server"

I was having trouble printing to my HP Color LaserJet 2605dn from a Mac Pro running Mountain Lion, so I went to System Prefernces -> Print & Scan deleted it and atempted to re-add it.  When I try add the printer I get this message:
Software for this printer is available from Apple. Would you like to download and install it?
After clicking Download & Install (the only option other than Cancel), I get this:
Can't install the software for the Hewlett-Packard HP Color LaserJet 2605dn because it is not currently available from the Software Update server.
What's the workaround when Mountain Lion can't find the driver?
    Thanks!

The 2605dn has dual Network and USB connectivity. Which are you attempting to configure: Network or attached USB?
Printer on, and if networked, use a static IP address
    Print & Scan
    IP
    Provide printer static IP address
Select Printer Software ... HP Color LaserJet 2605dn driver (not sure about that 2600 driver)
    Add
Configure Driver under Options and Supplies
I have a 1994 HP Laserjet 4m Plus set up using these steps and the appropriate driver. I just added another network printer, using the same IP address, but using the above 2605dn driver without any issue other than complaint about a redundant IP address.
Hopefully, you have already sorted this out.

  • Problems printing to HP Color LaserJet 2550L

Hello - ever since updating to ML 10.8.5, the above printer no longer prints.  I've updated the drivers to the latest from the Software Update (2.16.1 I believe as of this posting?).  This thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/22875508 explains pretty much exactly the same problem I am facing.  I have also tried resetting the printing system, rebooting, unplugging the printer and powering it off.  Then checking System Update (making sure there is no more updates), powering on the printer and plugging it in (USB).  I've also tried repairing the disk permissions.
The MacBook recognizes the printer and begins to install the software.  Once it finishes everything looks good, except that after printing one job, it consistantly reports that it is 'waiting for the printer to become available' when you go to print the next job.  The only "fix" has been to power off the printer, then power it back on which isn't really a fix.
Does anyone have any ideas / suggestions, aside from reinstalling ML?  Has anyone had this and had it fixed by upgrading to Mavericks?  Searches reveal that this issue seems to be pretty common, but no solid answers as far as a fix goes.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

I have exactly the same problem and same printer connected over usb.
Again only way to fix is to power off/on

  • Color Laserjet 2605dn printer with printing envelopes correctly

I am having problems with my HP Color Laserjet computer which is not printing envelopes from the computer which has Windows 8.1 installed on it. It will print out letters just fine now, but had problems with that previously, using WordPerfect Suite. The printer is a Color Laserjet 2605dn, which is connected to my home network. The same problem seem to be happening on my mini laptop which is running Windows XP.  I just fixed the printing problem on my windows 7 computer and had to print my envelopes using it. The HP Mini Laptop use to print out my envelopes just fine previously, but have the same problem. On the Pavillion Sleekbook, which is the newest I have the special print software from HP which lets me print paperwork where the others are not using it. I would appreciate any help with this problem. The setup isn't correct and the envelopes don't print out correctly like they did previously.

  • Windows 2008 Server and HP Color LaserJet 2605dn Driver Issue when Sharing Printer

I have a HP Color LaserJet 2605dn printer that I need to setup on a Windows 2008 server.  I need the server to act as a Print server, but I have been unable to get any drivers to load other than the 64 Bit Universal drivers.  Because most of the company uses XP (32 and 64 bit), I also need to load those drivers under additional drivers; however, I have been unable to load them, when I point to the INF file (any of the 10 that unzip from the driver package), it says it is not for this printer.  I have even tried the generic 32 bit PS and it says the same thing.  Any ideas on what I am doing incorrectly or where to get the drivers that I need?
    Thanks,
    Gary

Hello, I have the same problem. For the 2605 Printer is only the universal print driver available. Is seems that HP is to be lazy about making new 2008 driver.

  • Color LaserJet 2605dn for wireless printing, it keeps printing the first page over & over

When I use my Color LaserJet 2605dn for wireless printing, it keeps printing the first page over & over again.  I have to cancel print job on the printer in order to stop it.   It works properly on the computer that is directly wired to it, but won't on any other computer that I try to print from.   I have had this problem for some time, but now have certain thing that I must print from this printer & can't do it wirelessly.  It doesn't seem to be my network, because I can print from all of the other computers onto other wireless printers I have in the office.
    Any advice would be appreciated!

  • HP Color Laserjet 2605dn - won't print in color

I have an HP Color Laserjet 2605dn printer and recently purchased a new computer with Windows 7.  Our IT dept. installed an updated driver (HP Universal Printing PCCCCL 6) but now my printer will not print in color nor can I find a setting where I can adjust it.
I also cannot duplex but found helpful post that I will use to try and correct that issue.  If you can help me I would appreciate it.  IT seems to busy to help and my work involves a fair amount of graphics so I need my color.
    Thank you!!!

This post may be old but someone might use it later.  Right click on the printer and go to properties.  On the General tab go to printing preferences.  (Windows 7- double click printer, click Adjust print options.)  Advanced tab - expand Graphic, under Image Color Management change: ICM method to ICM handled by printer or host system.  Apply and close out the windows.  Run a test print to make sure it works.

  • Color LaserJet 2605dn Printing only Black and white

I have a Color Laserjet 2605dn and all of the color ink cartridges have run dry. However the Black cartridge has over 2,000 pages of ink in it and the printer will not let me prink only Black and White. It seems the color cartridges must also have ink in them in order for the printer to print. Does anyone know a work around so that I can print with the Black Cartridge and not purchase the color cartridges?

  • Color LaserJet 2605dn reboots when attempting any report from LCD. Says Printing, then resets.

HP Color LaserJet 2605dn reboots itself when attempting any report from LCD.  Says Printing, then resets with the green and amber light lit and the LCD screen says Hewlett-Packard.  If I try to send a print job to it from a computer, it says printing, and resets just the same. I've upgraded the firmware to 20071108.  I've rebooted the printer holding down the green and red buttons that didn't help.  I also held down the two gray buttons and powered on which didn't help, it just cleared all my printing stats and cleared my configuration.  I've attempted print jobs via USB, and network with same results.  Admin webpage comes up.  Thanks.

  • HP Color LaserJet 2605dn prefers Macs over PCs!

I have an HP Color LaserJet 2605dn on my home network, with two Macs (G5, MacBook) and two PCs running Windows XP Pro. I used Bonjour to set up the LaserJet on the Windows machines. The printer has been working well for the past 4 months until just this past week, when the Windows machines just stopped printing. In the system tray a printer icon appears with a red question mark and a bubble that says "This document failed to print" along with a few more details.
I've tried the usual (power off and on printer, power cycle DSL modem/router, uninstalling the printers and reinstalling) without success. I've searched the Microsoft and HP forums. In short, I've spent a few hours troubleshooting. The funny thing is that the Macs print fine. My kludge/fix is to set up the G5 to "share" the LaserJet and when I create a new printer on the Windows machines using that ("LaserJet 2605 @ G5") it works.
Just wondering if anyone else has come across this weirdness.

I am so glad it helped. I found it while trying to figure out why my Vista box will only print 2/3 of a page then it locks up hopelessly. I managed to finally get my XP box to print today with help from the forums too! If you come across anything about my Vista problem please look for that item and post. I'd really appreciate it!

  • Please help! New PC with Windows 7, now won't give option for duplex Color Laserjet 2605dn

Hi everyone,  I'm hoping someone can help.  I have an HP Color Laserjet 2605dn, and after 4 years with a Dell laptop (and Windows XP) I had to get a new computer, this one with Windows 7.  When I plugged in the printer for the first time, it loaded drivers and seemed to work great - EXCEPT there is NO option for duplex printing in the effects or finishing areas.  So I went to the HP website and downloaded the Universal Print Driver, which DOES have duplex, but it won't print to the 2605dn printer!!!
I am ready to throw this out the window.  I don't recommend buying anything new while you have PMS...hahahaha.  Seriously, if someone could help, my stress level would drop dramatically.  I print a lot, and not doing it duplex would waste so much paper!
    Thanks in advance.

Enable the duplexer as described in the Vista / Windows 7 Duplex Troubleshooting Guide as follows:  go to Start, Devices and Printers, right click on the printer, Printer properties, Device settings, Installable Options, set the "Duplex unit for 2-sided printing" to installed, OK.

  • HP Color LaserJet 2605dn

Ever since installing the printer driver update today, I have been unable to print anything. When I go to print something, the printer queue comes up and shows the document to be printed with the following message underneath "Finally, send the print file..." I have taken the steps to reset the printing system, deleting the printer and adding it back, deleting .plist files related to the printer, etc., etc.
In the process of adding the printer, when I select Print Using: "AutoSelect" the computer sits there for a while like it is trying to read the drivers and displays this message: "no matching architecture in universal wrapper" If I manually select the printing software, it lists two drivers - when I select the first one, and click to "add", I get the same message "no matching architecture in universal wrapper" and have to manually configure the installable options. When I select the second driver, I get the message that "Some of the software for the printer is missing. You may not be able to print to 'HP Color LaserJet 2605.' Please reinstall the printer's software."
I've done all I know to do and have been able to find on the forums. Does anyone have any clue what the problem is or if there is a workaround?

So here is a new development...
After uninstalling everything I could find related to this printer and trying everything new, I decided to try and re-load the software from the disc that came with the computer. I was able to go into the HP EWS Configuration and look at the settings of my printer (viewed through a browser - Safari).
From within that browser, when I clicked on the option to Print Info Pages and then clicked on "Print" for Print Supplies Page, it worked. The printer printed the page and any of the "Info Pages" I can access from that configuration application (via Safari).
Why will it print something through that and not from any other program (including just trying to print a web page in Safari)??
    Any ideas?!
HP Help desk was no help.

  • HP Color LaserJet 2605dn going offline for no apparent reason. Need help!

There are four of us with these printers in our finance department.  Two PC's are running Windows Vista and two Windows 7.  The printers are networked but installed locally on each PC.  Routinely all of these printers will go offline at the same time and there seems to be nothing that helps.  Our IT's answer is to buy four new printers but these printers work great when they're working.  There has to be a solution to this mystery out there somewhere.  I would appreciate any suggestions.
