Problems printing with  HP laser jet 5M and Snow Leopard

Hello,
Since In installed Snow Leopard on my mac I can no longer print with my HP laser jet 5M.
I know this is because Appletalk is no longer supported, and that I should use the laser jet as IP printer. However, I couldn't figure out how to assign an IP address to the printer. It seems I can't do this by the config menus of the printer. I read somwhere it is possible to do this by terminal (telnet) but I am not familiar with unix.
Can anybody help me to solve this problem?
many thanks
Marcello

  • I cannot print with HP Laser Jet Professional P 1102w

I was using Windows XP on the first hard disk of my computer. I could use your Laser Jet with this Operation System. But the difficulties with Windows XP are growing and I want to Install a newer Windows Operating System ???- On the second hard disk of my computer I am using Linux Ubuntu. I tried in vain to use your printer with the Linux Ubuntu system. Therefore I want to use your printer by sending the data to be printed as attachment of an E-Mail with ePrint .
    But by now I get:
    SERVER ERROR
Oops! Something just went wrong with our server.
    Try refreshing the page. ???

    Hello there @Frielinghaus !
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!
I can see you experiencing some server issues when trying to setup the ePrint feature on your LaserJet P1102w printer.  I should be able to provide some help with that!
The first thing to check when troubleshooting any LaserJet printer is to confirm it is plugged into the wall directly and not a power surge protector.  The next thing to check is to ensure the printer has the most up to date firmware version.  I can provide a link to the download for the Laserjet P1102w firmware update for Windows XP.  When running a firmware update on the printer it must be plugged in temporarily with the USB cable.
For the firmware update click here: Firmware update for HP Laserjet P1102w.
If you are still experiencing the server connection issue when trying to enable ePrint then you may be able to change the DNS server the printer is using!
    To change the DNS:
    1. Access the printers Embedded Web Server (EWS) by typing its IP address in the address bar of the web browser.
    2. Once connected to the EWS click the Network Tab at the top of the window.
    3. Click "IPV4 configuration" on the left side.
    4. Click Manual IP.
    5. Under DNS address configuration enter the New DNS server.
    6. For preferred DNS address enter "8.8.8.8".
    7. For Alternate DNS address enter "8.8.4.4".
    8. Press apply and try connecting to ePrint again!
Please post back and let me know if this worked for you!

Perhaps I do not understand your inquiry?
Is the printer exhibiting a Hardware issue?
If yes, the following might be useful:

If the printer is OK and you just need to install printer software and "get things going":
You can find the Full Feature Software for your printer here for several flavors of Windows, Mac OS.  There are apparently even drivers for Linux:  HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer
On your printer Support Pages, you can also find links to your User Guides, How-to Pages, Troubleshooting, and other interesting bits.

  • Wireless print server DPR-1260/Canon i9900 and Snow Leopard 10.6.1

    Hello,
I have recently got my Mac Book Pro and have the latest system (10.6.1) and cannot print with a wireless print server. I have a Dlink DPR-1260, and a Canon i9900 printer. I have done everything and I still cannot print. Please I need help!!!!
    Susan

Hello Susan and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Unfortunately the Canon Mac drivers have never worked correctly with the wireless print servers. I tested a Dlink model some years ago and while the Windows drivers for the same model would work fine, the Mac driver would always fail.
The only solution was to use the Gutenprint driver suite for Mac OS X. This software provided drivers for many brands of printers including Canon, and got our A3 inkjet working - albeit it wasn't always available as it seemed to never wake from sleep mode.
Checking the Gutenprint drivers included with 10.6, which are added when you do a custom install or by running the Optional Installer package within the 10.6 DVD, the i9900 is not listed as a supported model. It appears that only the Canon version of the i9900 driver is included with 10.6.
So, you have some decisions to make...
    1. Don't use wireless and just have the i9900 plugged in directly to the Mac via USB
    2. Replace the Dlink with an Airport Express. Due to the way in which Apple has made their Airport units, they will let you use the Canon driver.
    3. Keep the Dlink and purchase an alternate driver software package called Printfab. If you are printing mostly graphics on the i9900 then this driver suite can provide you with more colour control than the Canon driver. And it will work with the Dlink like the Gutenprint drivers do.
    Hope this helps

  • Nikon 8000 compatability with latest imac (i7 core) and Snow leopard

I am about to update my ancient Mac and have noticed on many photo forums that the above combination may not work and is prone to glitches at best. Does anyone here have actual experience running this combo? I understand that Silverfast Ai should run well with Snow Leopard but the software is a bit clunky and I'd much prefer to use the Nikon scan software and not have to go thru another learning curve. Any info would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Paul

Dell never includes decent PSU. Too bad you aren't a system builder!
Yes you can buy OEM System Builder but then that can't be installed on another motherboard if needed later.
Macs generally aren't easy and not supported to do processor upgrades. Pick up a P55 or X58 motherboard and you can and then have a tricked out gaming PC.

  • New iPad with iTunes 10.3.1 and Snow Leopard?

Just got a new iPad (iPad "3") and want to transfer a bunch of photos from my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and iTunes 10.3.1--
CAN I DO THIS using the cable connector (not WiFi)?  I do this every day with my iPod Touch (Gen 1, Dec 2007 running iOS 3.1.3).  I will be moving to Mac OS Lion (10.7.3) soon - but not immediately.
    Thanks for any feedback here.
    Best regards,
    Steve Schulte
    Friday 23 March 2012

The new iPad needs iTunes 10.6+ (from here). You could use a third-party app such as Simple Transfer which can copy photos over via your wifi network, but they will only go into the Camera Roll album - though you can then 'copy' them into new albums.

  • Has 5x7" printing gone in 2.1.4 and Snow Leopard?

I might be going crazy but I printed something on 5"x7" paper last week, and now, after upgrading to Snow Leopard and 2.1.4 the 5"x7" paper size seems to have disappeared from the print dialogue box. I haven't reinstalled my printer driver (HP C8180). Would that make a difference?
    Thanks

Lots of printer models are currently only supported by a Gutenprint driver, and it may be that this driver does not offer 5x7. To check the driver being used, open System Preferences/Print & Fax, highlight the printer, and you should see the current driver info. Also, see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669
One of my two Epson printers is supported by an Epson driver, and has all its functions, but the other only by a Gutenprint driver does not offer all its features -- and it is the newest, best featured.

  • Problem printing with Reader 9.4.5 and 10

I recently upgraded to Windows 7.  I have a Cannon Pixma iP4300 printer and have installed the Windows 7 driver that I downloaded manually from the Cannon website.  The test page prints on this printer, as do Office files and images.  When I print a PDF, a sheet feeds into the printer, one pass of the print heads is made, and no further progress occurs.  I have allowed over 10 minutes to pass, but no further printing occurs.  The document is shown as printing in the printer queue, and the Cannon printer status window also indicates that printing is in progress.  No error messages are reported.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled (separately) 10 and 9.4.5 and still have the same problem.  Any suggestions?

I do a lot of graphic design work which means I work with a lot of fonts, 4880 to be exact. Since 2005 I have found a number of fonts that simply quit working with Windows Vista vs XP 7 vs Vista, and even in Mac OS X from one build to another. It also happened with Software like Acrobat, Reader, TurboTax, Firefox, and Office.
It may just be that this particular font no longer meets compatibility standards for Reader X.

  • Printing with my HP Laserjet 1100 in Snow Leopard & hpijs

I have the DB25 to usb cable connected to the mini-centronix to db25 cable that is attached to my printer.  I have downloaded the hpijs packages from the linux foundation.  I think this should work except, after adding the printer and send a job to it, the printer is paused.  I suspect it has something to do with the protocol - its not a network printer.  What are the steps to add the parallel printer directly attached to my macbook pro?
thanks in advance for your help.

Try using the alternative communications software usbtb.  Y:Ou can get it from http://buymelunch.org/printing/usbtb/   THis usually works better with the parallel to USB adapters.

  • HT3771 Print with a Xerox workcentre 5020 using Snow Leopard

    Hi!
I've been looking everywhere for a driver (any driver) that may help me use this Workcentre with our Macs. I know there's none from Xerox for this printer so, any idea, tip or suggestion to make this work? Besides buying a new printer of course...

Looking at the specifications for this printer, it appears that is uses a proprietary driver that was only ever released for Windows.
I also had a look at the Linux Foundation for an open source driver but there does not appear to be one for this model.
If you still have a Windows XP computer, you may be able to use it as a print server and use this instruction to print from the Mac.

  • Cannot print to wireless Epson since upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6.3

HELP! Never had a problem before with Tiger! I reinstalled both Snow Leopard and printer. It will print a test copy after printer installation, but not from the Mac. I've tried printing a photo and document. Also, I lost my paper presets - can't find the photo paper!

The first thing to do is run Software Update until there is no more software to install. You should be at 10.6.6, and have all the printer updates installed. Once that is done, try resetting the printing system and reinstalling the printer. Then check that your driver is the proper one by seeing what it says in Options & Supplies. If it is not a driver from Epson, see if you can choose it manually there.

I have the HP color laser jet CP1215 and it seems to have frozen. I have tried unplugging and replugging the printer as well as just turning it on and off. I was able to delete some of the documents in the queue but there is one that I cannot delete and it is freezing the printer.

    Hi,
If that did not work there is more wrong than just a hanging printjob, the step should have removed it.

  • Macbook pro recognizes but won't print with hp desk jet 5550. Help!

macbook pro recognizes but won't print with hp desk jet 5550. Help!

Hi, I used the Mac setup instructions, not the PC ones.  The printer was automatically recognised in print and scan when I connected it with a USB cable.  I accessed the server's web-based page and followed all the instructions, but still no joy.  Thanks for the tip about posting.  I have just posted in the section you suggested, so let's see what happens.  From a quick scan around the apple forums, lost of other people seem to having precisely the same problem (and not just with HP printers!), but unfortunately, no-one seems to be offering a solution!  And trying to get through to the apple online support is a complete waste of time.  They've been 'not available' for two days now.  Christmas/New Year shutdown, I suppose.  Thanks for all your help, though!
