Problems printing with older Classic applications using OS 10.4.8
Newly installed OS 10.4.8. Unable to print from older applications using OS 9.2.2 Classic capability. Error Messages: (1) Not Apple Event Aware. (2) Desk Top Print 2.0 not installed. What is my remedy?
Using latest driver for HP5M printer in both Classic and OSX modes. Printing is OK in all applications except Avery Label Maker and MacProLabel Maker which are very old applications. I didn't have this problem with OS10.2.8. I get the same identical error messages for each as previously stated. I had a similar printing problem with Claris Draw but no error message. I reformatted my old Claris files and now can print.

When printing on my Epson PX720WD using Aperture 3 I get lines across the photo 25mm apart, it also appears to be printing at high speed. I have no problems when I print through Epson Easy print.

since upgrading ical on mac for .me account can't sync calanders with older generation itouch using 3.1.3os now calander on itouch generates blank screen...any ideas
Thank you for suggesting the link. it seems the problem was even simpler than I had thought had I read the FAQ link of the iCal/me upgrade notification ... Apple's latest version of iCal simply does not support versions of the iOS earlier than 4.2. The device I had been using was a first generation touch... Still working ... with out error in good condition despite having been to hades and back... But no longer supported by the newer versions of the iOS and the .ME ical application...
Another beautiful but orphaned device:-(. Like the absence of support for "ancient" apple operating systems, including their more interesting applications, it is simply no longer supported...one must move on to purchase new hardware and it's associated software to keep up with the evolving cloud os. The blank screen ical problem, on the touch, was corrected by performing the standard start up reboot procedure...with no loss of data and a return of the screen interface in the end. Again another example of the really outstanding past efforts to make robust system products. I will try to put my old touch to good use in its new " retirement" status ...use it some where else, like my original 128k Mac ( that still works as well!). Guess it is time to purchase a newer tool ;-)

I need to automate a task with a Classic application, is Automator suitable for this? If not, anyone knows what I can use instead?
ThanksIt's pretty hard to do that without having the application to play around with. Most likely the easiest way to try is by UI key commands. No promises, but can you see if you can preform the entire function you want to do without using the mouse. Then write down exactly what key commands you did and post them. I'll try to write a script for that. I can't think of any other plans. Have you got any other ideas, Ric?

I understand you're receiving a small portion on the left hand side of a document missing on both printers. I will do my best to assist you! Does this happen when you print from one program or many program(s)?
Both of these printers are not indicating low on ink? I would recommend resetting the printing system on your computer by following this Apple document here. I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great night!

I am have problems printing with my HP 800PS design jet. I have to call IT all the time and it is losing its print settings and the print screen will freeze uot all the time. I am told that HP does not support this product any more.

I have problems printing with a HP Officejet 6500 printer directly from my iMac. The printer itself does function well, as I can print from another PC without any problems. Does anyone have a clue?

According to the list, there is no driver for your printer included in OS X 10.7.
There are a couple of options:
1. Contact HP to see if they have a workaround.
2. If the model of printer is not listed but your printer is a PostScript printer or PCL Laser printer, try the "Generic PostScript" or "PCL Laser printer" drivers. Generic printer drivers may not let you access all the features of your printer.
I have not tried #2, but some people have had success.

Restarting in OS 9 to use Epson C86 printer with OS 9 applications
I've installed the software for the Epson C86 printer on my iMac (Panther, OS 10.3) and I want to use the printer with applications running in the Classic Environment. I've got the OS 9 System Folder installed. The printer instructions say to restart the iMac in OS 9 and choose the C86 icon in the Chooser.
When I'm running in the Classic environment, the C86 icon does not appear in the OS 9 Chooser, and OS 9 does not appear in the Startup Pane of System Preferences. When I restart holding down the option key, only the OS X icon appears.
How do I start up in OS 9--and more importantly, how do I use the Epson C86 on this machine with OS 9 applications?

I downloaded the updated driver for the C86 from the Epson website instead of using the CD that came with the printer and everything worked automatically, just fine.
Is it always better to download and use the software from a company's website for a peripheral than to use the software on the CD that comes with? Simply because of updates...or is there another reason? -
Problem printing with Lightroom using Vista
I just recently upgraded my XP system to a Vista 64 bit system. I print
digital photos using Adobe Lightroom 1.4. With my XP system, I had a
good match between my calibrated monitor (NEC 2690) and my printer (HP
B9180) working in the ProPhoto RGB color space using LR. I use ICC profiles (mostly HP Advanced Photo Paper) and let the Lightroom application manage the color. With Vista, I've lost my match. Skin tones look great on my monitor and now print with a red tint. A blue sky prints with a purple cast. I tried Lightroom Beta 2 but no difference. I'm using NEC's SpectraView II calibration software which is 64 bit compatible.
My workflow is to import the raw file into LR. After initial editing I then external edit the file in CS3 as a TIFF. If I print this TIFF file from CS3, it does match my monitor. If I print this same TIFF file from LR (my preference because of the print templates), skin tones look sunburned. If I export the TIFF file from LR as a JPG and print from CS3, it also matches my monitor. I reviewed my color management settings many times and can't find what's causing this problem.I had the 'opposite' problem when I installed Vista 64. I had a perfect match with XP, Samsung SyncMaster 225BW, and B9180 printer. The monitor profile was created using Spyder 2 Pro. With Vista 64 my prints were desaturated. By increasing saturation by about +30 I had a reasonable but still not 'perfect' match.
I found and installed the Photoshop CS3 patch for the 64bit B9180 driver thinking it might be a solution, but that didn't change anything WRT the printer/monitor match when using Lightroom. I then tried printing from CS3 but had exactly the same mismatch. I then fell back to the first 'old standby', I uninstalled all of the HP printer software and then re-installed the printer software and the Photoshop CS3 patch. Problem solved. YMMV -

Thanks for any enlightenment you can offer!You cannot start up in OS 9. The last mac that could boot into 9 rolled off the assembly line several years ago. However, you may be able to print from Classic by installing the OS 9 driver for your printer into Classic, the same way you would install it into a bootable system.

Problem printing with Adobe Acrobat X pro. No File Save As dialog
We have a C++ program to print a formatted report, by selecting the configured printers. "Adobe PDF" printer is available on install of Adobe Acrobat Pro.
During report print when "Adobe PDF" printer is selected, the report use to get printed in a PDF document & saves at the path provided by the User.
Internally it uses printer APIs like OnBeginPrinting, StartDoc, OnPrepareDC, StartPage, OnPrepareDC etc.
Report printing was working fine with Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.1. But since I installed Adobe Acrobat X pro (with update as 10.1.3) I am unable to print PDF document using "Adobe PDF" pinter.
StartDoc API does not pops up the "File Save As" dialog at all.
Any help in this regard, would be very useful.
Note: My code is working fine, if I use freeware like CutePrinter.

1. Try on a different system if available. If still bad...
2. Try to create a simple test application with CreateDC and StartDoc, and really nothing else not absolutely needed.
Test that. If it is good, look for other problems in your application (e.g. memory overwrite).
If your little example is still bad, post it here and other people can try and compare your results. -
Problem printing with Epson 3800 and Photoshop CS5
I came across a problem trying to print with my Epson 3800 in Photoshop CS5. I recently upgraded to Photoshop CS 5 (and Lightroom 3). I tried to print using my Epson 3800 with CS5 but could not adjust Print Settings, Color Mamagement, Paper Configuration, Expand Border because those options are unavailable and there is a line crossing through them. I get a message that says "The bundle 'Print Setting' could not be loaded because it does not contain a version for the current architecture". It then says to contact the creator listed here for the latest version: PrintSetting version 3.57, Copyright SEIKO EPSON CRP 2001-2006. I can print through Photoshop CS4 as usual, but CS5 is a problem. I haven't tried printing though Lightroom 3 yet, and have not typically used Lightroom to print, but I wonder if that will be a problem too?
Any help will be appreciated.If you run CS5 or LR as a 32bit application you will have all these option available to you. You can then save these options as presets that can then be applied when you are running the applications in 64bit mode even if you can not access them individually.
Also you might want to check Epson's download site especially the European site to see if there are newer drivers or updates for your printer. The newest drivers for other printers like the 7600/9600 support application running in 64bit mode.

Problem printing with network accounts in Rosetta apps
This is a weird one that I've been trying to fix for weeks with no luck. Any thoughts would be helpful before I dump the AD Plugin and switch to ADmitMac...
Setup:
We have some (about 50) student iMacs, bound to our Active Directory domain.
On logging in, students are authenticated via an Active Directory server.
The students have Home Folders on another Windows 2003 server.
Force Local Home is off in the AD plugin, so when a student logs in, they get an ordinary account (non-admin) and see the Desktop, etc. that is held on the server, so if they log into any iMac they get the same Home Folder.
Problem:
The odd problem has just occurred with 4 new iMacs. These are the first Intel Macs on the network using AD logins and network Home Folders. Old PowerPC iMacs work just fine. However, the Intels exhibit this strange behaviour:
If a student prints from any Rosetta application (e.g. Word or Photoshop) the print goes ahead and prints, but the application immediately crashes (quits unexpectedly). Intel Apps (e.g. Preview) however, print fine.
I've just done a print from Word with one of my students' accounts (username bbjarhsy, Home Folder on a server called d4, as you'll see at the end). The crash log for Word tells me:

This seems to indicate some sort of problem with addressing Virtual Memory after/during sending the print job. (??)
I should mention that the prints are going to a (Windows) print server which does its stuff properly - queues and prints the job and deducts pages properly from the quotas set up.
I've tried making a test account an Admin account but these crash too, so it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the local permissions.
Any idea where I can go with this? Anyone doing the same thing with no problem? It definitely seems to be a bug with the Intel version of Tiger as the G5s have exactly the same set up with no such problems.

Since upgrading to Lion OS X, I have not been able to print any of my documents that were created in Adobe PDF. All calls to customer support have been a bust.
When I try to print anything it comes out looking like this:

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, selectHelp from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
Note: If you’ve activated FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.) Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

Did all of that yesterday, with the Apple Representative on the phone, and nope, still a problem...it was kind of exciting, really, they kept going up and up the tiers of support until I got disconnected...Fortunately I had the email address of the gentleman who was helping me so that I could email him back and let him know that we got disconnected...as you might imagine, he still has not emailed me back. They were able to receive a copy of the form that I use for charting and try it in their facility on their computers, so we know:
1- it is not just my computer.
2- it occurred only after installing Lion OS X, not sure if they have tried it on Snow Leopard, but that's what I would have done if I was them...assuming that somewhere in Apple someone has not upgraded to Lion.
3- it is not just my software.
I think the problem is with the newer iteration of Preview not communicating well with the Adobe .pdf. probably some line of coding that needs to be written and insertedinto their program for multiline text.

Problem Printing With Inkscape
I'm having problems printing from Inkscape. I have libcups, cups-filters, avahi, ghostscript, gsfonts, samba, hplip, and hpoj installed. My printer is a HP LaserJet M2727nf MFP.
I'm currently using the Postscript driver. Printing from most programs works fine - but when attempting to print from inkscape, the job fails and CUPS gives me a "filter failed" error.
When using hpijs, attempting to print from Inkscape results in a blank printed page with the text "Error: /typecheck in --run-- / Operand Stack: / --dict:6/15(L)-- 1 11 Annots/E"
What can I do to address this? What other information can I provide?dakaemch wrote:
