Problems Re-starting, or staring at all for that matter

I tried to start up Dreamweaver 8, the program was initailizing when it froze and stopped responding. Everything else on my computer was running fine, so I force quit DW, and tried again. Same thing happened- so I checked to make sure there were no new updates, everything looked good -and still it stops responding at startup. So I decide to re-start my comp. It then re-starts and nothing comes up on the monitor, the fan working way to hard. I cold boot it, try to start it up again- still nothing up on the screen. So I wait about 30, try again, nothing...wait, try once more and its up! Everything seems to be running fine- except DW again wont start.
I check for general updates for OSX-do the updates thinking this will solve my start up problems.Re-install DW. Re-start....and nothing on the screen again! Try to restart several times with no luck, wait an hour and its back up! everything again running fine- still no DW.
I am not sure that the Dreamweaver problem has anything to do with my start up problem, however I have never had any problems and they happened to occur at the same time.
I am terrified to shut down my comp. thinking it may never turn on again!
What do you think it is??

I've done all of these recommended steps.  My problem is that I have a new laptop that I am trying to sync my iPhone (and iPad for that matter) via Wi-Fi but both devices are looking for the old laptop to sync.  My iTunes is version 11.0..3.42, iPhone is 6.1.4, and iPad 6.1.3.  Any suggestions?

All I had to do was complain.  I synced my iPhone to the Windows machine, checked the other account at iTunes prompting (where no apps had shown up previously), reconnected the iPad, and 140 apps downloaded including the App Store.  I have no idea why.

  • When will OS X Lion be compatible with Avid's Pro Tools 9, or any Pro Tools for that matter?

When will OS X Lion be compatible with Avid's Pro Tools 9, or any Pro Tools for that matter?

There's less money to be made from compatibility than there is from "forced upgrades."  Why would AVID be concerned with their older product working with the new OS when they can release another version for people to pay $250+ for?  Free bug-fix download vs. latest software upgrade?  You've got two companies with virtual monopolies on the pro audio market.  It's a win-win for them.
So what does that say to me about the handful that do not?  The incompatibility is a marketing decision, not a shortcoming.
    Am I close?

  • Replaced hard drive; now Macbook wont boot from CD (or USB for that matter)

Looking for a genius. I've tried holding down "C" during startup until the option to boot from CD shows up, but my install disk spins, then stops. Does this about 3 times and the Macbook spits it out (I held "C" the entire time). I've also tried holding "alt/option" key with an external drive attached via USB but the option to boot from there never came up either. I tool it into the Apple store earlier today and was told only the hard drive was bad. Now that I've bought, opened, and installed the new HD, I'm concerned I've wasted that purchase. Anyone? Thanks so much.

Startup your Mac while holding  down the Option key. That should launch the Startup Manager window where you can select the startup disk then click Restart.
A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac  < includes info for repairing the startup disk
A Windows install disc will not boot your Mac.

  • When will Apple fix Lion OS X v10.7 from freezing after my 27" Mac is put to sleep? I must admit that I am amazed that Apple would release an OS that has this problem, for that matter any serious problem.

When will Apple come up with a fix for Lion OSX v10.7 from freezing after Lion is put to sleep?  My 27"Mac freezes after being put to sleep and a hrad boot is required to be able to use the system.  I have complained to the local Apples store numerous times. The Genious Bar re-installed the OS and it crashed the very next day and continues to crash two or three times per week.  I am amazed that Apples would relase a product, any product before it has been proven to be solid, then again, look at the release of the newest IPhone 4-S.

So do you have a question about how to fix your system?
The question/problem is "My 27"Mac freezes after being put to sleep."
Gabor, I can't help, except to report that I, too, experience very frequent unexplained crashes and freezes in Lion. However (so far) not when I put it to sleep.
There are a lot of reports about freezes. Here's one. Maybe you should join that thread. Someone there is also reporting that "Lion has a bug that freezes the system when waking the system from sleep."
Are you getting freezes/crashes at other times or only when sleeping the computer?
And does it successfully go to sleep?
Does it freeze when you wake it, or at the point where you're putting it to sleep?

  • Why do Youtube video clips and all others, for that matter, take hours to load and never play properly?

My java script is enabled, my machine running latest versions of Firefox and Windows and yet it is impossible to download and play any video clips as it takes forever to load and play and still does not play the clips as they were intended.

  • A failure running Linux on a family HTPC - or any OS for that matter.

    I failed. Here's the story:
About a year and a half ago I've bought a couple of components and put them together to have a relatively powerful, but still cheap HTPC that didn't eat too much energy, running at 40W in total. I also bought a dedicated TFT and hung it on the wall, so it's a bit like an internet kiosk as well, and it's really nice to play music from there. Looks really neat beside the TV. The TV is only neccessary to watch movies and look at pictures. I wanted to use it as a HTPC to watch movies, DVDs, have the music library on and use it as an always-on server for some stuff like mpd/icecast streaming and some files.
At first, I installed some shitty Vista, no idea why. Ran cygwin in the background but cygwin is no good at screen (not detaching manually would corrupt the session and make reattaching impossible). It didn't live long, as cygwin wasn't sufficient for my server needs. Though it performed well to watch DVDs, listen to music and watch pictures on the TV.
I cleared everything and installed Arch. With my non-linuxized family in mind, I chose KDE4 as the DE, so that lots of stuff comes preinstalled, like picture viewers, music players, DVD players and so on. But KDE4 just failed hard. Stuff didn't work most of the time, panel crashed randomly, kdm wouldn't do autologin but instead crash and I was unable to set the keyboard layout for kdm either. So I ended up using xinitrc to start it but still there was a lot of stuff going wrong. Besides of that, it was way too slow.
So I removed KDE and tried something more sane. Openbox and xfce4-panel. This worked fairly well, but one day the PC didn't react while I was away and my girlfriend just reset the box. After it had rebooted, all the xfce4-panel icons were back to defaults and had forgotten all their settings... And one day we had the mad idea to actually _rent_ a DVD and watch it, but it wouldn't work and I had to spend one hour googling for some mplayer error only to find out that there's some stupid copy protection on the DVD and that I needed yet another lib installed to play it, and using mplayer with some command line options, a task that my parents would not be able to do ever. So I would need to write another script that checks the DVD and uses some command line options accordingly...
I'm so sick of having to constantly research how to play some legally rented DVD or how icons disappear or the resolution randomly changes or all kinds of stupid stuff happening. Whatever my parents want to do simply doesn't work, and I have to come down and fix some stupid script or error. There's no end to the flaws in this system. Don't get me wrong, I'm using Arch on both my laptop and Desktop, and it runs great and I wouldn't want anything different, but for a box I'm not using everyday, where I'm not in control 100%, it seems like Arch or even Linux in general might not be working!
Now, what I'm going to try next is Windows 7 for the noob-friendly, DVD-playing family-part, and Archlinux on coLinux for the server stuff. Hope that arch runs well on coLinux. coLinux apparently runs on Win7 without issues.
    Wish me luck.

    So, my experience with win7:
    - generally better then vista, less bloated, but pretty much the same from a usability point of view
    - still seriously unpractical and lame for a poweruser
    - needs lots of tweaking to be good
    - arch on colinux runs well and is _awesomely_ fast. Problem is that I find it a bit outdated with its 2.6.25 kernel
    - arch in virtualbox runs slow because the box doesn't have IVT unfortunately (c2d E4500)
    - Stuff plays and runs, but it's as usual. One has to get rid of all the annoyances like WMP, all the notifiers, updaters etc...
So, of course I'm ditching it. Now, I'll try ubuntu 9.10. Hopefully all its bloat will help the box to perform well without much tweaking.
I'll try xmbc, but generally I feel like all these myth* and other mediacenter linux distros/apps don't really fit my setup as the HTPC has an extra screen and is not only attached to the TV, so it can be used as a normal box really. Sometimes I'd write a quick letter on it and print it and all that. It's a versatile setup:
    - playing movies, viewing images
    - surfing
    - torrents, downloading
    - serving mpd/icecast streams
    - gateway for wake-on-lan'ing and ssh'ing into my desktop
    - attached to printer, used to write quick stuff
    I'll see how ubuntu performs....
